00:00So, this has been making the rounds on Finn's Twitter, Leroy.
00:07You remember Dolphins safety Deshaun Elliott?
00:11Last year's there's one of their starting safeties, plays for Pittsburgh now.
00:14Oh.
00:15What?
00:16I said Pittsburgh.
00:17What?
00:18So he's, he's in teamed up with Minka.
00:24That's right.
00:25That's right.
00:27So he was on a podcast with Marlon Humphrey, Marlon Humphrey has a podcast from Baltimore
00:35and they used to be teammates in Baltimore, right?
00:39So Deshaun was talking about how excited he is to face Marlon because the Steelers are
00:47playing the Ravens this week, Slugfest.
00:51And he had a little comment that he stuck in there, it was pretty biting.
00:56This is what Deshaun Elliott had to say on Marlon Humphrey's podcast.
01:00So this, this will be fun.
01:01This will be very fun.
01:02I haven't been, I haven't been able to play against Baltimore the way I wanted to because
01:06last year I played up for a team that was soft as, I mean, oh my God, I can't put that
01:10on there.
01:11That was pretty soft.
01:12The guys on the team, but there were some guys who were tough, but like for the majority,
01:15the majority of the team, there was not mentally tough individuals.
01:21So to be on a team with the full team of mentally tough guys going against another mentally
01:26tough team and AFC North ball, you know, this is going to be, it's going to be fun, man.
01:31It'll be fun.
01:32I can't wait to see Marlon again.
01:35Okay.
01:36Salt as bleep.
01:37Now it seemed like a little bit of a slippy slip.
01:41He didn't mean to get so emotional about it.
01:44Let me, let me, let me explain what happens in sports is that any team that you have that
01:57has a lot of speed sometimes gets misconstrued with soft because they so fast and they run
02:08offense accordingly, right?
02:13But they did lead the league in rushing, which is one of the more, I mean, he's a, I mean,
02:20maybe he's talking about the defense though, cause he's, I think he's probably referring
02:23to his side of the football.
02:25I want him to go tell Christian Wilkins that, okay.
02:28You see what I'm saying?
02:31So, and, and keep in mind credibility though, like, you know, but, but, but let's, let's
02:37think of it this way.
02:38Sometimes guys are playing positions where they aren't very good and you misconstrued
02:45that as soft.
02:47One of the biggest challenges for this team has been able to find those physical linebackers
02:56that, you know, come up and, and not to snide, but to be able to find those physical linebackers
03:04that, you know, come up and, and not to snide out of you, right?
03:10They just, they haven't had those guys because, you know, their guys are more cover guys.
03:18So I get why somebody would say that I do just based on the scheme of their team.
03:28The other thing is, is keep in mind the defense as a whole had a problem with the defense
03:34that big Fangio was running.
03:35They hated it.
03:36Right.
03:37And so mostly guys in the secondary too.
03:40Right.
03:41So, so what role does that play in it?
03:43I don't know.
03:44Well, he had a little bit more insight cause I thought, oh, that's just a slip.
03:48Well, no, no, he doesn't.
03:50He had more to say about his time with the Miami dolphins.
03:54This was Deshaun Elliott.
03:56They're starting safety last year, discussing this on Marlon Humphries, a podcast.
04:01And he says there's something wrong with the Miami culture, these, you know, gritty
04:07cities, but then in the right in the middle, you have Miami.
04:10What was it like being in Miami as a, as a worker?
04:14And then, you know, I feel like it would be easier going to work in Baltimore, Pittsburgh
04:18and Detroit than it might be when Miami's around.
04:21Was that a problem for anyone?
04:23I would say it was way easier to do those things in other cities, but Miami is, it's
04:28a distract.
04:29I would say that we already didn't hang out much as a team because there's so much to
04:35do in Miami.
04:36So guys were dispersed so much and everyone thought they were somebody because of the
04:41mindset of, oh, I'm in Miami.
04:43I can be somebody different, you know?
04:46And then we go into that city and I felt like we were, we were a really good team.
04:51And then the injury bug hit us.
04:52And then after the injury bug hit us, we played the Titans.
04:56We played Tennessee and lost in Tennessee.
04:59You can tell the heart and soul for that team disappeared.
05:03We didn't have any more guys that are going out more guys, a lot of guys that are going
05:07to the shirt clubs throughout the week.
05:10Guys are showing up to meetings late.
05:11You can just tell like the Miami culture is a reason why Miami will never be good.
05:16Like Miami will never be a good football team.
05:18And I was, I don't care.
05:19They will never be good because of the Miami culture.
05:22I think they have great players, but the culture is not going to be there.
05:27I don't care what anyone says.
05:30I do love Miami's food.
05:31Oh, well, thanks Deshaun.
05:32You know what?
05:33First of all, first of all, Jesus, thank you, Captain obvious.
05:43Yes.
05:44This British, this beautiful, great city has a lot of distractions, but don't start snitching
05:49on your former teammates, telling me that after the Tennessee game, guys decided teammates
05:53anymore though.
05:54They're not as teammates anymore to me.
05:57Well, where are you, Mr. Leader?
05:59Aren't you part one of the 52 members of the team?
06:02Why can't you speak up and say, Hey guys, you know, after this Tennessee loss, we still
06:05got the playoffs.
06:06We still got to do though, Vlad, what is he supposed to do in that case?
06:10He'd be like, let's have Bible study tonight.
06:13Not Tootsie's study.
06:14No, no, no.
06:15I'm not saying that, but don't start dropping diamonds saying that after the loss of Tennessee
06:19guys decided to go to the strip club a little bit more.
06:21Come on, man.
06:22What if it's the truth though?
06:24I got families.
06:25I got families.
06:26I don't know that I've been going to the strip club a little bit, a little bit more than
06:29I used to.
06:30I mean, like you think, you think he's Javon Holland's worried about the snitching going
06:34on?
06:35You snitch it.
06:36Excuse me.
06:37It's December.
06:38Okay.
06:39When I'm telling, I think, I think we know he's not talking about Zach Sealer.
06:41Zach Sealer of course was, was, was hunting this.
06:44If I tell my wife as a player, Hey, you know, playoffs are coming.
06:47We got to study and put in a little bit more tape, you know, film study.
06:52And I'm out Tootsie's, you know, getting cheeks, you know, thrown at me.
06:57I don't need that to be thrown out there.
06:59I don't need him to do that part Leroy, it was going to the strip clubs before they lost
07:08attendance.
07:09That's what I'm saying.
07:10I'm acting like, like, but, but, but again, but, but again, mucho again,
07:17it's funny.
07:20It's funny how, let me give you another example of how this could go, right?
07:30The white house in Dallas.
07:32Yeah.
07:33Okay.
07:34They was winning Superbowls.
07:36That's it.
07:37You went to Superbowl, but, but, but, but, but nobody was questioning any of that.
07:43Cause they was winning.
07:44Yeah.
07:46When you're losing.
07:47See, I give you a perfect example.
07:48When we were three and 13, right?
07:52Somebody said we got young guys sleeping in the, in the meeting room and you know what
07:58I replied?
07:59I ain't never made a mistake on the football for you.
08:03What's your problem?
08:06Now you see, did you go see boobies the night before?
08:09Yeah.
08:10No, no.
08:11Then you go.
08:12I just, I just, in general, in general, I'm in general meetings, me sitting, listening
08:24to a person talk about stuff that we already do.
08:30Right.
08:31Um, it was like a tranquilizer gun to me.
08:34I understand.
08:35But it's always been that way.
08:36I understand.
08:37But how many means did you show up late for?
08:39None.
08:40Well, except for the.
08:42The syrup incident.
08:43See, he's got syrup.
08:44Wait, what?
08:45He had to go get, so I, so I, I was responsible as a rookie to get like 10 guys breakfast
08:54on Saturday morning, but the breakfast day morning from one place.
09:00So I had to go to friendlies.
09:01I had to go to like three different breakfast places.
09:05So I would get up in the morning, call the order in at like six 30, go pick it up at
09:10like seven 30, put it at the day desk or whatever, and get ready.
09:16One morning I did it and Kevin Mack say, Hey, Brooke, I ain't got no syrup for my pancakes.
09:22Might as well not have pancakes.
09:25And I looked and I looked and I looked and I looked and then everybody turned and looked
09:32and he said, Brooke, I ain't got no syrup for my pancakes.
09:37So I got up and I drove back and got syrup.
09:42When I came in, the head coach was having his meeting and he fined me $500 for being
09:49late.
09:50But when I got to my desk, it was $500 at my desk.
09:55So it was just a test.
09:58You see what I'm saying?
09:59Because every rookie got it.
10:01Like you got to earn your way.
10:04So this isn't this isn't the tale of a rookie, though, this is this is a this is a guy who's
10:10trying to talk about the demise of a season that went really, really bad.
10:13Now, I would say, like, yeah, probably the biggest thing was, yeah, they weren't healthy
10:16by the end of last year, which he did say, which he did throw in there.
10:21But he also but he also said guys are starting to show up late.
10:23You could just tell the commitment wasn't right there, like the way that it was.
10:27Is that a knock on the players or is it kind of feels like a knock on the coach?
10:31Yeah, that's what I'm right.
10:34Um, I would say this.
10:39That there's a fine line between.
10:42Being stern and being a player's coach, right?
10:49Yeah, I would say Denny was a player's coach right now.
10:55He's got he didn't play well, this these were his coaches the last three years.
11:00Dan Campbell, Mike McDaniel, Tomlin.
11:04Oh, so he's been around.
11:06There's one that's going to be a little different than the other two.
11:09I mean, if you're if you're if you're doing a tale of the tape.
11:13Yeah, right.
11:14Well, and keep in mind, the other two are way more extreme.
11:22And Campbell does something a certain way.
11:25And Mike Tomlin been doing it for 17 years.
11:29But also, Leroy, if you listen to them, when one when both when Dan Campbell talks, you
11:34understand who's talking.
11:37When Mike Tomlin talks, you understand who's talking.
11:40When Mike McDaniel talks, you kind of like, where's he leading us right now?
11:44Like, where are we going?
11:45Poor Brittany was like, God, Brittany was working with us.
11:47He's like, Yeah, what is he saying?
11:49Like, sorry, I'm sorry.
11:50We have to put you through that.
11:51Like, he's putting me to sleep right now.
11:53Like, it's hard.
11:54It was just a simple question about too many interceptions.
11:56And it was a one minute, 37 second diatribe.
12:00Fancy tickled 305 says, didn't the Vikings have a boat sex party scandal in the 2000s?
12:05That was post Leroy.
12:06That was post Denny.
12:09That was post Denny.
12:10Was that was that that that that scalper?
12:13Yeah, that was the tight end.
12:16Who's this?
12:17I didn't coach and then Mike Tice.
12:19Mike Tice.
12:20Yes.
12:21Yeah.
12:22Mike Tice was a player's coach.
12:23Oh, yeah.
12:24He put on the uniform.
12:26Yeah, Mike, Mike Tice, he started he was the offensive line coach when I was there.
12:33So that is a you got met for a cup for a player that is quite a contrast from going to man
12:40Campbell to going to my yeah, but I went I went to from Bill Belichick.
12:47Then I had Ted Marchabrota, who was closer to Mike McDaniel.
12:53Then I went to who was in Carolina, Dom Capers.
12:58And then I went to Denny Green.
13:01So I had everybody went about it a certain a certain way.
13:07Like when I was in Carolina, they didn't even like you couldn't even be loud in the locker
13:11room.
13:12Right?
13:13It was like you could hear a pin drop in the locker room.
13:16Yeah, it was crazy.
13:18That's just how they did business there.
13:20Just like, how could you just come out there?
13:22You're like, never going to happen.
13:24Never.
13:25Never is a long time to Sean.
13:27Never.
13:28Well, he knows things.
13:32It's easy.
13:33This is easy.
13:34It's easy to say that.
13:36When you are where you are now, yeah.
13:40You know what I mean?
13:41Jesus.
13:42I know.
13:43What the hell?
13:44He's so savage.
13:49Coaches have a number of ways to do things, right?
13:55Like Denny very rarely talked to the players.
14:00He empowered the coaches.
14:01If he has something to say, he would go through your coach, your position coach.
14:06And when he did say something or get mad, you could hear a pin drop because he didn't
14:13do it very often.
14:14I kind of want to know more about what Deshaun is saying.
14:19Is he trying to say that maybe there's coddling of players or something like that?
14:24I think there's for sure coddling of players.
14:28I would say this.
14:29I would say this.
14:31That sometimes coaches come in and they build these relationships without setting boundaries
14:42of how things are going to be done and demand that they're done a certain way.
14:46You can still be a player's coach and do that.
14:50Like Dan Campbell cries after certain games, but his players know Dan Campbell is not playing.
15:01You see what I'm saying?
15:03Yeah.
15:04But he's so big.
15:05When a big man like him cries, you're uncomfortable.
15:08You're going to cry.
15:09All right.
15:10I'm just saying there's a lot of different ways.
15:14There's a lot of different ways.
15:15I mean, what my coach in college, everybody was terrified of, and he was five foot eight.
15:20Spoke kind of look like he was on the verge of tears last night.
15:22Well, he had his own doing.
15:24I know.
15:25That's terrible.
15:26So if you're Spoe, when you go back to the hotel room, because you're spending three
15:30days in Detroit, which is God awful.
15:32I'm sorry.
15:33No disrespect to Detroit.
15:34No, they're going to Indiana.
15:35Oh, they got another game with Detroit.
15:36No, no.
15:37Another game in Indiana.
15:38Okay.
15:39There's two games in Indiana.
15:40Not that that's any better.
15:41Indianapolis sucks.
15:42Let me tell you guys.
15:43Do you go to Louisville?
15:44Maybe get some bourbon?
15:45I don't know what it does.
15:46Drink that.
15:47Drink that pain away.
15:48Why?
15:49That ain't close.
15:50Indiana, Kentucky.
15:51Yeah, it's not that far.
15:52No.
15:53Indy, Louisville.
15:54Not that far.
15:55There's a whole nother state in between them.
15:56Indy, Louisville.
15:57It's not that far.
15:58Dude.
15:59Indianapolis and Louisville is.
16:00It's closer than you think.
16:01It's closer than you think.
16:02It's closer than you think.
16:04Take a break.
16:05Back after this.
16:06Take a break.
16:07Back after this.
16:08Take a break.
16:09Back after this.
16:10Take a break.
16:11Back after this.
16:12Take a break.
16:13Back after this.
16:14Take a break.
16:15Back after this.
16:16Take a break.
16:17Back after this.
16:18Take a break.
16:19Back after this.
16:20Take a break.
16:21Back after this.
16:22Take a break.
16:23Back after this.
16:24Take a break.
16:25Back after this.
16:26Take a break.
16:27Back after this.
16:28Take a break.
16:29Back after this.
