00:00Pilot testing for biometrics technologies on the borders of the country
00:04will be conducted by the Department of Transportation next year.
00:07Here are the details.
00:12For a faster and better travel experience
00:15while pushing digitalization in the aviation sector of the country,
00:19pilot testing will be conducted in the first half of 2025
00:23by the Department of Transportation of Biometrics Technologies
00:26in Iloilo International Airport
00:27where there are international flights and there are not as many people as in IA.
00:31This is followed by the creation of a Memorandum of Understanding
00:35with an American digital identity and cybersecurity company,
00:39the Ultrapass Identity Corporation.
00:41According to Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista,
00:44through this, the process of check-in, security, and boarding gates on the borders will be faster.
00:50This also includes the implementation of security protocols.
00:53Included in this implementation for Phase 1 is for Filipino passengers
00:58using their national ID.
01:00And for Phase 2, for foreign passengers,
01:02using an e-passport for domestic flights.
01:05And this will be an integration in the e-verify system of DICT
01:08and the digital system of airlines.
01:10We need to see that it will really result to a better travel experience for the passengers.
01:23Because the objective is for the processing of the papers to be fast.
01:30That's why we will use the information on the national ID,
01:35the information on the e-passports of our foreign visitors.
01:41The MOU signing is being carried out simultaneously
01:43by the Innovative Technologies for Urban Infrastructure Development Trade Mission
01:48of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
01:50Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade, Marisa Lago, is leading.
01:54That's why I'm here this week leading an impressive delegation
01:58of 12 cutting-edge U.S. companies that offer innovative technologies and solutions
02:05to help develop sustainable urban infrastructure across the Philippines.
02:10Before this, the U.S. was the first to carry out the Presidential Trade and Investment Mission in March.
02:15Part of any pilot in innovation is you have to measure.
02:21What are you measuring?
02:24Because you need to understand what success looks like.
02:27So over these next number of weeks, we will be defining exactly what success looks like
02:31as we roll out the solution with our stakeholders.
02:36According to Calihim, the technology has been used for a long time
02:39in the main provinces of other countries.
02:42The government will not spend any money on pilot testing
02:45while there is still no proof of how successful the project is.
02:50Not only that, there are other airports that are looking for a possible successor.
02:54Rod Laguzed, for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
