00:19We begin with the news, stay with us.
00:38In Venezuela, the second day of the historic Bolivarian Congress processes within the framework
00:43of the Plan of the Seven Transformations 2024-2030.
00:48Different delegations attended this Friday to the session to debate issues on education
00:53for indigenous peoples and also at the national level of boys, girls and young people.
00:59The meeting plans the construction of a new state and a new geopolitics of world power
01:04and it is suspected that the session can conclude this Saturday in plenary with the participation
01:09of President Nicolás Maduro.
01:11The Congress contemplates to define and approve collectively the proposals for the future
01:16of Venezuela and after more than 100,000 assemblies throughout the country.
01:28As the second day of the Grand Congress of the historical Bolivarian bloc is underway
01:32in Caracas, Venezuela, we go to the site of the event with our correspondent Belén de
01:37los Santos who has more updates on today's work agenda.
01:41The second day of the Grand Congress of the Bolivarian historical bloc is coming to an
01:50end.
01:51This participative initiative that was proposed by the administration of President Nicolás
01:57Maduro with the objective of introducing a popular discussion on the nation's strategic
02:04goals for the upcoming mandate, for the upcoming 30 years.
02:10One of the phrases that many of the delegates that were present here in the Congress highlighted
02:16was the unprecedented nature of this event as they say this was the first time that a
02:22state president has summoned every social and political organization to debate and to
02:29help draw up a series of conclusions for the national development plan.
02:34So the debate has been going on throughout the day as we have been bringing to you and
02:39every assembly gathering delegates from across the territory and across the Venezuelan generations
02:47that is the five generations that were surrounding strategic topics which have been denominated
02:54the seven Ts that is for the seven transformations.
02:58This is an ongoing process of participation and one of the aspects to highlight regarding
03:04this Congress is that precisely the importance of popular participation in the current stage
03:23of the Bolivarian process.
03:26I would like to keep in mind for a second that for example as the process that ends
03:35with the Grand Congress is going on, Venezuela has also been hosting the International Congress
03:40Against Fascism calling for a deeper understanding of the challenges that face not only Venezuela
03:47but the region and that threatens its revolutionary process.
03:52So in this context in the face of this threat, this participatory process that is this Congress
03:58that calls on every last member of the Bolivarian people to think, to debate, to discuss and
04:05defend its historical conquest is really a key element for the active defense of the
04:11revolutionary process.
04:12So what is happening here today needs to be thought in that way as a call to the people
04:19to deepen its compromise, to deepen its revolutionary actions in a world context that moves drastically
04:27to the far right.
04:29This second day of the Congress comes to an end with the intervention of the Vice President
04:34of the Central League as also the oil and the Minister of the Interior Diosdado Cabello
04:40and all the delegates will be back tomorrow, Saturday to continue the assemblies and to

05:33As Brazil remembered the National Day of Fighting Illiteracy this week, the Landless Rural Workers
05:39Movement, MST, announced new measures to combat the societal ill which affects an estimated
05:4511 million people.
05:46Our correspondent Brian Meir has more.
05:51Every year since 1966, on November 14th, Brazilians have commemorated the National Day of Fighting
05:57Illiteracy, a date which corresponds with the founding of Brazil's National Ministry
06:01of Education in 1930.
06:03This year the Landless Rural Workers Movement, or MST, is remembering the over 200,000 adults
06:09who have learned to read and write through its teaching methodology, Yes I Can.
06:16My mom and dad and my family were poor so when I asked about school, my dad would put
06:20a stop to it and told us we had to work on the fields.
06:23I had a lot of problems in the big city before I learned how to read.
06:27I would go to the big city to work and I couldn't figure out how to take the bus.
06:31I'd choose a bus because of its color and it wouldn't work because the buses in the
06:35big cities are almost all the same color.
06:41After Cuba achieved nearly 100% literacy in its rural areas, the Fidel Castro administration
06:47worked to share its adult literacy teaching methodology with peasant organizations around
06:52the Global South.
06:53When the MST decided to tackle the problem in its settlements, it turned to Cuba for
06:58help.
06:59Later, the MST provided technical assistance to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela when
07:05Hugo Chavez initiated an adult literacy campaign.
07:10I feel good now, because it's really bad when you don't know how to read.
07:14You arrive somewhere and can't figure out how to use public transportation and it's
07:18almost impossible to go to the bank.
07:22The MST's methodology is based on the principle of recognizing and respecting the vast technical
07:27knowledge and life experiences that illiterate family farmers have accumulated, while using
07:32teaching techniques such as associating letters with numbers that were proven successful in
07:37Cuba.
07:40Teaching adults and youth how to read and write enables these subjects to interpret
07:44the world from the written word.
07:48Reading enables them to learn about the world.
07:53Above and beyond that, it provides dignity to these people, the people from the countryside,
08:01who were denied their rights to access school during their childhood.
08:06This month, the MST announced a new round of over 1,500 adult literacy courses in its
08:12agrarian reform settlements across Brazil.

08:21The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, assured that the country will seek peace and
08:25the reduction of poverty during her participation in the G20 Summit to take place in Brazil.
08:33More than for Mexico, our participation has to do with building peace in the world, with
08:39the environment, and with the reduction of poverty.
08:43A lot of resources are allocated in the world for weapons.
08:47In fact, in 2023, depending on the number, because we talk about billions, our billions
08:54are trillions in the United States, but $2.7 billion were allocated in the world for weapons
09:02in 2023.
09:04In recent years, the budget to buy arms has grown almost three times more than the growth
09:10of the world economy, more than 6 percent.
09:14So the proposal is to allocate part of that resource to global programs.
09:20The Mexican head of state also said she hopes to keep the communication with the U.S. president-elect
09:26about several issues.

10:20In Spain, a fire broke out at a care home in the town of Villafranca de Ebro in the
10:25northeastern region of Aragon, killing at least 10 people.
10:29Local authorities reported the fire that erupted early on Friday at the Jardines de Villafranca
10:35home took two hours to be extinguished by firefighters from nearby Zaragoza.
10:40As the cause of the incident remains unknown, the town's major, Volker Ramirez, informed
10:46that smoke inhalation was likely responsible for the deaths.

11:55The World Health Organization has warned of a threat of a resurgence of measles, as more
12:01than 10 million cases were reported last year.
12:04According to the organization, the jumping cases of the contagious disease reflects a
12:09drop in vaccine coverage.
12:11Since last year, only 83% of children worldwide have received their first dose of the measles
12:18vaccine through routine health services.
12:21As a result, the number of infections are rising around the globe, endangering lives.
12:26In 2023, the disease claimed more than 107,000 lives, most of them children.
12:32In addition, 57 countries saw significant measles outbreaks last year and almost half
12:38were reported in Africa.
12:41Measles is one of the world's most infectious diseases and at least 95% vaccine coverage
12:47is required to avert outbreaks.
12:58The Russian foreign ministry informed on Friday that during the BRICS 2024 summit held last
13:04October, the economic bloc added three new countries to its list of partners.
13:09Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand have become the first states to be admitted as partners.
13:14During the summit, the candidates showed their interest in joining the organization that
13:18seeks to establish a fair and multipolar international order.

13:44The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Friday afternoon that Tropical Storm Sara is meandering
13:55near the northern coast of Honduras and that heavy rainfall from the storm is likely to
13:59cause life-threatening flash flooding and melt slides into early next week for portions
14:05of Central America.
14:06As of Friday afternoon, the center of Sara was located about 30 miles southwest of Isla
14:12Guanaja, Honduras, with maximum sustained winds near 50 meters per hour with higher
14:18gusts.
14:19The storm is moving west, and a continued westward motion at a slower forward speed
14:24is suspected over the next day or so.
14:27The center of Sara is forecast to move close to the northern coast of Honduras through
14:31early Saturday, then approach the coast of Belize early Sunday.
14:39A COP 29 report says Asia and the United States release most heat-trapping gas that feeds
14:48climate change.
14:50The information was revealed on Friday by the Climate Trace's annual data at the COP
14:5529 summit in Baku, Azerbaijan.
14:58The report shows that Shanghai's 256 million metric tons of greenhouse gases led all cities
15:05and exceeded those from Colombia and Norway.
15:09On the other hand, New York City's 160 million metric tons and Houston's 150 million metric
15:15tons are in the top 50 of countrywide emissions with Seoul in South Korea ranks fifth among

15:48Mali's former Environment Minister Aida Embo has launched an initiative to protect forests
15:54involving multiple volunteers engaging for reforestation efforts.
15:59Embo's non-profit project Energia is financially supported by the Great Green Wall, an initiative
16:06by African countries launched in 2007 aimed at planting trees in a nearly 5,000-mile line
16:13across the continent.
16:14Embo's initiative is aimed at organizing a community tree planting in the Sambalara
16:20forest which, despite being protected for decades, is now in danger of being wiped out
16:25mainly due to the consumption of wood for household purposes.
16:29With this project, the former official seeks not only to create new forests but also to
16:33give priority to natural regeneration.
16:52Thailand holds these days the Yipeng Lantern Festival, a celebration of lights where people
16:58release thousands of paper lanterns into the sky, symbolizing letting go of misfortunes
17:03and making wishes for the future.
17:06The event salutes the full moon in the 12th month of the Thai lunar calendar, which this
17:11year is from November 14th to 17th, with the main parade on November 16th.
17:17Also known as the Sky Lantern Festival, it has its origins in the ancient Lanna Kingdom
17:22and represents the transition from the dark and rainy monsoon season to the sunnier days
17:27of the cool season.
17:29The Yipeng Lantern Festival is closely associated with the Loy Krathong Festival, which is being
17:35held on the same day, and carries similar symbols.
