00:00How are you?
00:03Man, I'm great.
00:04I'm happy to be here.
00:05I haven't been to one of these things in, I don't know, maybe 10 years or something.
00:10Well, that's why we've never met.
00:12Probably so.
00:13Are you excited to watch your buddy Luke Bryan host?
00:14No.
00:15Oh, my God.
00:16What an idiot.
00:17Right?
00:18Like, how does he keep getting the job?
00:19I think because people love to watch, you know, Trainwreck on TV.
00:24I'm going to tell him you said that.
00:25Yeah.
00:26But I'm excited about Lainey.
00:28I think she's incredible.
00:30I'm a huge fan of hers.
00:33And of course, Peyton is so funny.
00:35And Luke's funny, too.
00:36I got to give it to him.
00:38They got the right combination there.
00:39They did.
00:40That's good.
00:41Right?
00:42You've got new music out, Texas.
00:43Talk to me about this.
00:44Are you having so much fun, like, having this new release and seeing how everybody's reacting
00:46to it?
00:47I really am.
00:48I was nervous, you know.
00:52It's been a while since I released any new music, you know.
00:57When I retired from The Voice, I just kind of, like, went away.
01:02Well, you were on there a long time, so you needed a minute.
01:0623 seasons I was on that show.
01:09And so I was happy to get a break.
01:12And then, you know, this spring I got that Post Malone reached out to me and asked if
01:19I would be on the record with him.
01:21And then that thing took off.
01:23And now here I am making my own music again.
01:26And I'm fired up about it.
01:27I really am.
01:28I'm just trying to take it all in this time around, you know.
01:34The first chapter of my career, which I think goes from 2001 to probably 2021 or 22 is kind
01:44of a blur to me, you know.
01:46And to be able to kind of relaunch again and know how hard it is in this business to have
01:53success and to have a hit song.
01:56And I'm really enjoying kind of slowing down this time and taking it in and enjoying these
02:02moments for what they are.
02:04Because not a lot of people get to experience it, you know.
02:06And so I really am having a blast with it this time around.
02:10Good.
02:11I'm glad.
02:12The last time we talked, you were saying how, like, working with Post kind of, like, reinvigorated
02:14you to get back out there.
02:17It did.
02:18It did.
02:19And, you know, I felt like I'd kind of gotten lazy, you know, and I'd kind of taken for
02:26granted what I do, you know, because I had been on the I've been saying on the hamster
02:32wheel for so long that you just kind of forget, like, man, when you were when I was a kid,
02:39I dream.
02:40My only dream was being on the radio, you know.
02:44And I mean, the very small lottery winning percentage of people get to do this, you know.
02:52And but being around Post, it was like, look at this kid, man.
02:56He's the biggest star in the world.
02:58He couldn't be more excited about what he does.
03:01And what am I doing?
03:02This is this is what I do.
03:03And I really do credit him for for firing me up about it again, you know, and wanting
03:08to make some more music.
03:09And as long as people want it and want to at least hear it and give me a chance, and
03:14it's actually literally stupid not not to do it, you know, exactly.
03:18What can you say about the rest of the music that you've been working on?
03:21I've got, you know, I wouldn't say a lot.
03:25I probably have an album's worth of music that recorded that I have.
03:30I don't think it's there yet.
03:32I'm going to keep recording and looking for songs until they tell me they got to start
03:37printing albums.
03:38I need to turn something in, you know, for sure.
03:40Well, you're going to have you've got new music out now.
03:41More coming, obviously. Your wife also just put out a new record.
03:44She did on Friday song for them, man.
03:47I've got a lot of there's a lot of favorite songs and I'm probably too close to the album
03:52because I literally was there when she come home and play me these songs as they were
03:58written, you know, and and then go into the studio with her and watching her, you know,
04:02record the stuff here in Nashville with Scott Hendricks, you know, and from Purple
04:07Viruses to Bouquet and Marigolds.
04:11I mean, I can I have a lot of favorites.
04:13My favorite for a long time is what she ended up coming out with, you know, as the first
04:19first single, Somebody Else's Problem.
04:22But Bouquet is an incredible piece of piece of work, too.
04:26That's amazing. Well, listen, it's so good to see you.
04:28Thank you. So happy to hear like more new music and again, loving the single.
04:31Thank you so much. Have so much fun at the show.
04:33And thank you for coming to see us. Absolutely.
