00:00One of the reasons why many people believe in gambling is not the joy of winning, but to make up for their losses.
00:12Let's say, the money involved becomes more frequent or bigger.
00:18But maybe gambling addicts are chasing the losses.
00:24So it's like they're making up for what they lost.
00:28And then, it's like they're hiring.
00:32Because there's the thrill of making up for what they lost.
00:37In all addictions, including gambling addiction, there's a lack of contentment.
00:43You want more than you should be having.
00:46And the downside to this is that everything will be lost.
00:52So the discontent grows.
00:55And then, you become greedy again.
00:58So stuff like that.
01:00According to the study, it's also hereditary and can be seen as a mental disorder.
01:07Gambling addiction is also called gambling disorder.
01:11And it is a psychiatric disorder.

01:29We tried asking the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation or PAGCOR,
01:34but they didn't allow us to do an on-cam interview.

01:45this was their goal to regulate the underground online gaming sites during the pandemic.
01:53It also became a solution to get alternative revenues for the government's COVID response.
02:00According to them, there are only 61 legal PAGCOR-accredited online gaming platforms in the Philippines,
02:08while more than 1,000 illegal ones operate online gaming sites.
02:15But when PAGCOR admitted, they couldn't catch these illegal operators.
02:21They added that they only relied on the complainants
02:26and they forced the authorities to punish them.
02:31The fine is up to Php20,000 to Php200,000
02:36if anyone is caught gambling here.
02:39And there's a 12-year prison sentence.
02:44But the world is not over yet if you're addicted to gambling.
02:48Because there are others who chose to gamble for the future of themselves and their families.
