00:00One of the news producers of GMA Integrated News started his career in the first round.
00:07Before he became an on-cam reporter, he started behind the camera as a researcher.
00:14I was studying at UP Diliman, taking up Broadcast Communications,
00:19and then I was looking for an opportunity to do OJT.
00:22So one time, my boss offered me, he asked me,
00:25he said, Bernadette, do you want to work?
00:28And it couldn't come at a better time because at that time,
00:31I was looking for a job in my thesis.
00:34So my first paycheck, in the first round, was just enough.
00:38I mean, how much did I have to pay the editor for my thesis?
00:41I was an SP for Drew Arellano, for Ate Love, for Regine Tolentino.
00:46So that's where I learned the things that are very, very helpful in covering the news today.
00:53These are some of the equipment that will be used to make a hole in the ship.
00:57According to the subs, they will do something very dangerous,
01:00so only experts will need to use it.
01:04What she learned in the first round is a big deal for Bernadette.
01:08Because what are the learnings that I learned there,
01:11until now, I brought it with me when I became a reporter.
01:14The one who was caught in Singunon,
01:16is smaller by almost two floors compared to Lolong,
01:19which is considered the largest crocodile in captivity in the world.
01:22Bernadette Reyes learned 24 hours.
01:25Ability to produce good stories and ability to do in-depth research,
01:31that you need legwork, you need paperwork,
01:34something that I really learned in the first round.
01:37Also because of the push of the voices,
01:39that you will not stop at just this,
01:42you work on every story, it stays with me.
01:45This is where the bloody Supernova Music Festival was held,
01:48where the dead were taken care of.
01:51Also one of the ones who started his career as a journalist in the first round,
01:54is the news producer, JP Soriano.
01:57What they told us is that if there is an explosion, leave immediately.
02:01In 2004, JP became a program researcher in the first round.
02:05At that time, I applied as a reporter.
02:09At that time, Aunt Kelly, one of our admins,
02:15said that I was not ready to be a news reporter at that time.
02:20So what they did is, they trained me.
02:23Because that's the brand of GMA News and Public Affairs.
02:27It's small, but it filled me and it prepared me
02:33to be part of a bigger mission.
02:38So I owe it really a lot in the first round.
02:41I'm always proud to say that's where I started in GMA.
02:45Kapuso, behind me is the Champs-Élysées Arena.
02:48It's one of the 36 sporting venues here at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
02:53From being a program researcher,
02:55JP became a segment producer of GMA Public Affairs
02:59before becoming a news reporter.
03:02Hello to you.
03:04This is where we will study Korean cooking.
03:08I always look back to the times when I started learning the steps,
03:14the little steps in broadcasting.
03:16And that's really the foundation of my journalism career
03:22here at GMA News and in the Philippines in general.
03:25I'm afraid, Chef. Please don't judge me, Lady Han.
03:30Okay.
03:32Thank you, thank you.
03:34That's one of the things I learned, never giving up.
03:38You have to wake up every day for the people you love in life.
03:42Just like in the first round, they wake up every day to give information, to give a show.
03:47So for 25 years, that's what they've been doing.
