00:00Messing with the beasts of Korbul can have surprisingly shocking side effects.
00:05Here's a look at McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Legion of Superheroes Lightning Lad.
00:30While his twin sister has a tendency to follow her impulses and jump into the fray before anyone else,
00:39Garth Brands has been known to take a more measured approach.
00:42Born with lightning manipulation abilities and no less heroic in actions,
00:45Lightning Lad has made a name for himself as a founder of the Legion of Superheroes.
00:50So, 30th century and it's still fashionably acceptable to wear lightning bolts on hero onesies.
00:55There's hope for him yet.
00:57Just before, of course, we get a closer look at the DC Multiverse Legion of Superheroes Lightning Lad,
01:02first, I'd like to thank the folks over at McFarlane Toys that did provide this sample.
01:06We're going to also as well grab the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
01:09Now, this is the regular version of Lightning Lad.
01:11There's also as well a platinum edition.
01:13If you like the classic look of the Lad, you may want to go with the platinum edition instead.
01:16The figure, though, is going to stand at six and a half inches in height or Garth is going to be roughly about 17 centimeters tall.
01:23I don't really have much in the way of Legion of Superheroes, but I do have Crime Fighting Lads.
01:27Here's what the figure looks like with the platinum edition Robin.
01:30And seeing as Robin can't be out on his own, here's what the figure also looks like with the Caped Crusader Batman.
01:35Bring in also some other figures that know a little something about lightning.
01:38Here's what Lightning Lad looks like with Black Lightning.
01:40And also as well, here's what the figure looks like with Shazam or Captain Marvel.
01:44Clever ideas get packed along with this lightning character.
01:47The figure, first of all, does come included with a display stand.
01:50And while you may say right away, hey, come on, guy, that's not a clever idea.
01:53The fact that Todd and his team are still including display stands, whether we have a thousand of these already or not,
01:58the fact that no other company is really doing display stands with their figures, you have to commend for the fact that they still do.
02:04We get the bells and the whistles, of course.
02:06We've got the silver treatment of DC logo down below here.
02:08We still get, of course, the ever so reliable display stand peg that's off to the far corner that can plug into either one of the Lad's boots.
02:16The figure also comes included as well with a trading card, not a display stand.
02:20The trading card, I think, is going to be the same one that we get as well with the Platinum Edition.
02:24Now, even though this is more modern take to Lightning Lad and the other one for the Platinum Edition is going to be the classic look,
02:30it's going to have some swappable face plates and it's also going to come with the alternate head sculpt.
02:33So don't worry, we've got you covered.
02:35On the back of the card, though, the real name is Garth Ranz.
02:37There is also as well a paragraph read.
02:39You can read it and certainly read it for yourself if you want.
02:42I've already beaten you to it.
02:43But if you want to anyways, just to see that you've set yourself goal and you completed them, read it.
02:48By all means, go ahead.
02:50Okay, let's move off to the side.
02:52Figure as well comes included with some lightning effects.
02:55Now, the thing about these lightning effects is I feel like we've gotten these before Flash.
02:59Now, obviously, I could just go through the totes, my many totes of DC multiverse figures and try to retrieve a shape that looks similar to this.
03:05I'm just going to say right now, I'm going to put my name to this, that I think these are lightning effects we've gotten with a Flash.
03:11Even though, obviously, they're here blue, generally, though, with Flash, it usually tends to be like yellow or orange.
03:16I mean, we get ourselves blue ones this time around.
03:18You probably could also use these with other figures as well.
03:21It doesn't have to necessarily belong to Lightning Lad.
03:23But they got packed with them.
03:24It doesn't necessarily mean, my friend, that's a high voice, by the way.
03:27It doesn't mean, though, that you have to have these always displayed with the characters.
03:30Now, when it comes to displaying these, you have two small ones and you have two long ones.
03:35The long ones, you would imagine, would go onto his legs.
03:37The smaller ones, maybe onto his hands.
03:39Now, you could go with that idea.
03:41It's just a case, obviously, of just attaching them onto his hands.
03:44There isn't really a rhyme or a reason.
03:46It's just a case of you fit them in place, and if they stay in place, you've job well done.
03:50You've set your goals for the day.
03:52I actually chose instead, at the beginning of this review, to go with the longer ones.
03:56Because I like the idea that this actually goes, maybe not as successful, but I like the idea that these could actually go around his hands.
04:03I'm going to do this quickly now.
04:04And it kind of just looks like the entire arm is electrocuted.
04:08The exact same on this side as well.
04:10Do they go here? I don't know.
04:12But we're going to put them here, at least for right now.
04:14I like this look.
04:15Now, with these ones, you're probably thinking to yourself, well, what are you going to do with these now?
04:19What you could do, because there is a section that technically would go around his hand,
04:23I actually, instead, put them around his boots.
04:26Just kind of like that.
04:27Now, this might be a little bit more difficult to pull off once you've got a display stand coming into the fray.
04:33But other than that, though, I mean, like, again, just attach that.
04:36You could do whatever you want.
04:37It's your palette.
04:38It's your canvas.
04:40I guess that's what Bob Ross would always say.
04:42Do whatever you want.
04:43I like that.
04:44I personally like that as a better look for the character.
04:46Again, if you want to have it swapped around the other way, swap it around the other way.
04:49Go brag it to everybody else in the neighborhood.
04:51I swapped it around the other way.
04:53That's great. Fantastic.
04:54Good for you.
04:55So we'll move those off to the side.
04:57Lightning Lad also does come in clue with one of the current trends that we're seeing with a lot of McFarlane releases.
05:01Swappable faceplates.
05:03Yeah.
05:04The faceplate allows at least for the company to save a little bit of production costs.
05:07So instead of having a tool, a brand new head every single time with a different facial expression, what they've done instead is they've given you faceplates.
05:15Now, the only problem with faceplates goes with the territory of anything small like this will get lost right away.
05:20So providing that you're putting everything back in a bag, a small enough bag, and that bag goes into a tote, a small enough totes.
05:26Stop that.
05:27You can easily just use the plates down the road.
05:29Instead of having to always fight with removing the heads, which can be problematic, swapping out the faceplates is so much easier.
05:35Now, you get this face sculpt, which honestly is my least favorite of the ones that we get.
05:39You get also a neutral expression.
05:41And then you get this one, which I think is my favorite.
05:43Changing out the heads is just a simple case of pulling from the bottom of the chin and just yanking the face completely off.
05:49This, by the way, I will tell you, will only work on a plastic figure.
05:52Don't go up to somebody that you walk in on the street, you see.
05:55Don't go up to their face and start yanking their face off.
05:57First of all, it's going to hurt them.
05:59Second of all, it's going to land you in jail.
06:01I don't know why I'm having such a hard time.
06:03I was doing this fine earlier.
06:05There we go.
06:06Probably was tilting too far in an angle.
06:08Anyways, all it is, let's not draw, all it is, is there's a peg, there's a hole.
06:12And as unruly as that may look, it's actually kind of funny the fact that the face, like the nose and the mouth is still there,
06:17even though technically we've removed the face in your nightmares tonight.
06:21But let's go ahead and just take the face that we want to use.
06:24Was it this one?
06:25It was this one.
06:26It does have a peg, actually has two placements of pegs instead of just the one.
06:29Maybe that's why I was having a harder time removing it.
06:32Anyways, let's just line everything back up.
06:34It follows the contour nicely of his hairline.
06:37So it's a good way of hiding the fact that he does have a face that's removable.
06:41By far, this is my favorite head sculpt of the ones that we get with Lightning Lad.
06:45But there is more.
06:47You also get the classic look to Lightning Lad.
06:50Obviously, for the reasons I don't need to disclose,
06:53you can see why they probably couldn't have just gone with a removable face plate.
06:56Obviously, changing out the heads would make a better sense.
06:59Now, it seems from what I can see that the Platinum Edition is going to have, in fact, the exact same head as this one here.
07:04It's also going to come included with this version of Garth.
07:07So the only thing that's really going to be different between this body and the one that we get with the Platinum Edition that we will be looking at in an upcoming review,
07:13leave it with me, leave it with me.
07:15It's just the coloring, really, of the costume.
07:17The costume has the lightning bolts, but they run across the shoulders.
07:20And it still has kind of the darker blue like this, but then down below he has white legs instead of the blue legs.
07:25Again, we'll be looking at in an upcoming review.
07:27The body seems to be, though, sharing the exact same one as the Platinum Edition.
07:30I think it's also the same body that was used with the John Kent Superman.
07:34Another figure. I have all this stack of figures I still got to get through.
07:37We'll be looking at him in an upcoming review.
07:39A more leaner looking version of Lightning Lad.
07:42The body's not really one that could be used for a lot of other DC Multiverse figures,
07:45but those are a couple of ones I can think of.
07:47Like the John Kent body used this version of the mold.
07:50And also, as well, the obvious is the Platinum Edition of Lightning Lad is also going to use this same body.
07:55The coloring that we get for the costume.
07:57Do you want to see, by the way, what it looks like with the alternate head sculpt?
07:59Okay. All right. We can do that.
08:01Just pop the head off the ball joint. Pretty easy to do.
08:03Take the new head that you want to use. Just pop that in place.
08:06It's kind of fun for me to say that it's the newer head,
08:08when technically I suppose it would be the older head if you look at the chronological order in the comics.
08:13But again, if you want to go with this defaulted head,
08:16I already know I'm going to be looking at the Platinum Edition.
08:18That's the figure that's going to have likely this head on my shelf.
08:21And then I'm going to beeline it back to this head sculpt when it comes to this body.
08:25I just want to show you guys what the difference is between the two.
08:29Okay. Let's pop this back off.
08:31All that work, all that effort.
08:33I'm just going to put it and remove it back to where I had it before.
08:36For the rest of his body, again, like the majority of it is all cast in this lighter blue plastic.
08:40Very much a Superman sort of color.
08:42A lot of darker blues make appearances here.
08:44You got the little stripes down the sides of his legs.
08:46The blue in the front of his chest is nicely done.
08:48I mean, in fact, things that I would think would be a problem,
08:51right away, like yellow on top of darker plastic, usually is a no-no.
08:54Because when you're looking at it, you always can usually see the coloring of the plastic underneath.
08:59And yet, if I spin this around, other than maybe a few little areas right here,
09:04it seems like the paint is generally clean.
09:07Looks really good on the figure.
09:09Down below as well, he's got some additional yellow also in the legs.
09:12Not quite the whitest of boots.
09:14They're a little bit more of an off-color, but I think that's correct to the comics.
09:17You can kind of see, like they probably would have used these legs from before.
09:20And I was also kind of thinking the Teen Titans Beast Boy.
09:23I'm going to have to go back and check to see if that's using the exact same body.
09:26And if that's the case, that's probably why these boots are molded the way that they are.
09:29I think also Beast Boy, from what I remember, also has, I think, something a little bit different to his shoulders as well.
09:34But all in all, like it's a good-looking figure.
09:37I've really got to get more, like, I hope that McFarlane's going to release more Legion and superhero figures.
09:41Because, like, Lightning Light is a good way to start.
09:44At least for my collection.
09:46Now, for the figure's articulation, we're going to stick with this head sculpt.
09:49We're not going to use this one necessarily because, again, like the Platinum Edition.
09:51I know. I already said it. I already said it.
09:53Head's going to be on a ball joint. Sure.
09:55It's going to rotate all the way around. Yeah.
09:57Head looks up. The head looks down.
09:59And actually quite low down as well.
10:01You can also move it back and forth as well.
10:03As for his arms, they rotate all the way around.
10:05You can hinge them out at 90 degrees.
10:07Whether it be this arm. Whether it be this arm.
10:09It could be both arms. Hey, why not?
10:11The hands also, or the arms, swivel at the bicep.
10:13The figure does also have a double hinge on his elbow.
10:15And the hands rotate all the way around.
10:17While you may have been noticing me moving the things around on the figure,
10:20you've probably been asking yourself, does he come with any other swappable hands?
10:22No.
10:24Because he already had the plastic budget being utilized by the lightning effects,
10:27and also, again, the swappable face plates,
10:29and the alternate classic head sculpt,
10:31this version of Lightning Lad doesn't come included with any other alternate hands.
10:34I think the Platinum Edition is also going to have very similar hands.
10:38So, again, we're going to be looking at the comparisons of those two figures in the upcoming review.
10:41As for his arms,
10:43the arms, again, we already have looked at those.
10:45Double hinge on the elbows. The hands rotate all the way around.
10:47Upper torso ball joints.
10:49Lower torso abdomen joint.
10:51Periodically, though, as you are moving the torso out like this,
10:55it's going to break up what normally would be a pretty consistent, darker color of the blue.
10:59It's obvious that they can't get in there completely and paint everything in there.
11:03So, I mean, mileage may vary.
11:05Just how clean and consistent the paint may look.
11:07You have it further back like that, expect things like gap spaces start to develop.
11:11If you have it further forward, you're obviously not going to notice that at all.
11:14Lower torso is also on a ball joint.
11:16Now, again, with his trunks,
11:18I did notice, though, with the trunks for Lightning Lad,
11:20and may also have been the case when we looked at Beast Boy,
11:22which I think this is using the same mold,
11:24the lower trunks are a softer plastic.
11:26If you bring the abs back really far,
11:28you're going to notice a gap between them.
11:30You're going to basically be able to, I don't know, store whatever else in there.
11:34I don't know.
11:35Anyways, he has a gap right there.
11:37It's very obvious you can see it.
11:39But, again, if you have the torso a little bit further forward,
11:42you may look a little bit more seamless.
11:44Legs split out. They're in ratcheted joints.
11:47You can take the legs and move them forward, move them back.
11:49There's a swivel at the top of the thigh,
11:51double hinge on the knee,
11:53no articulation for the boots.
11:54However, though, there's articulation here for the ankle,
11:56and a nice ankle rocker.
11:58And the figure does also have toe articulation as well.
12:01I think, again, when displaying this guy on the shelf,
12:03being that this is a more modern look to Lightning Lad,
12:06I think I'm going to display him with this look to Garth.
12:08Now, again, when we look at the Platinum Edition,
12:10Platinum Edition release of him,
12:12I'm going to be likely displaying him
12:15with more of the classic look to the head sculpt.
12:17But the benefit of this one, at least,
12:18is that if you don't want to have the budget,
12:20let's just even say you don't have the money
12:22to start sourcing out and buying multiples
12:24of essentially the same figure and character,
12:26the benefit of this, the beauty of this release,
12:29is that McFarlane thought of that
12:30and included not just the faceplate,
12:32swappable faceplate options
12:33for this existing version of Garth,
12:35but also, in fact, in fact,
12:36gave you the classic look in the head sculpt.
12:38So, again, like you have a couple of choices there.
12:40All in all, though, it's a nice-looking Lightning Lad.
12:42You know, truth, again, be told,
12:43I'm sure we probably have gotten these lightning effects before
12:45from other Flash releases in the past,
12:47but, you know, considering he is Lightning Lad,
12:49you like to think that he's going to have some lightning effects,
12:51and McFarlane gave you quite an abundance of them,
12:53not only for his arms, but his legs as well.
12:55Not that I was really looking to spoil things,
12:57but the Platinum Edition version of Lightning Lad
12:59not only will have the exact same head,
13:01not only will have the same swapped-out faceplates,
13:03but also, as well,
13:04it's going to have the exact same trading card.
13:06Now, again, it's one of those things that,
13:08with the territory that we cover for Platinum Editions,
13:10generally, they are using a lot of the same things
13:12as the regular version,
13:14but, again, being that that's the classic version
13:16of Lightning Lad, I would have liked
13:17if they could have also used a trading card
13:19that reflects that, too.
13:20We're talking all about the Platinum Edition.
13:22Let's go a little bit back
13:23to the regular version of Lightning Lad.
13:25By the way, though, one other thing
13:26about the Platinum Editions,
13:28whereas the lightning bolts,
13:29the lightning effects that go with this version
13:31are blue,
13:32the one for the Platinum Edition
13:33is all going to be in yellow,
13:34which, again, will look even more like
13:36something that was once belonging
13:38to Wally West or Barry Allen.
13:40The figure as a whole, though,
13:41is nicely done here,
13:42using a slightly more slimmer body,
13:44but it works really well with the character.
13:46The head sculpt is probably one of the best,
13:48better ones we've gotten
13:49for swappable faceplate options,
13:51even though, really,
13:52the classic look of Lightning Lad
13:54doesn't get afforded swappable faceplates,
13:56not even on this one or the Platinum Edition.
13:58I think the more important character,
14:00the modern version of Lightning Lad,
14:01gets those instead.
14:03The figure does pose well.
14:04I mean, you know, again,
14:05it has the same levels of posability
14:07that come to be expected now
14:08with the DC Multiverse figures.
14:10It's still, again, a consistent paint.
14:12I mean, I don't know if I've noticed this.
14:14Maybe I'm the only one that's noticed this,
14:15but the paint seems to have gotten better lately
14:17with the DC Multiverse figures.
14:19They really are honing their skills
14:20when it comes to not only new ideas,
14:22which, again,
14:23those interchangeable faceplates
14:25is one of the best ideas
14:26Todd and his team have come up with
14:28in recent memory,
14:29but also, like, the paint applications.
14:30Things like yellow, for example.
14:32You'd look at yellow
14:33and you'd think right away,
14:34okay, it's not going to be
14:35one of those things where
14:36it had to have a second coat of paint.
14:38I'm looking at this figure
14:39and there's nothing really on him
14:40that feels like it needed
14:42a second coat of paint.
14:43Some of the paint does get divided,
14:45obviously, when you tilt back his torso.
14:46He does have a little bit of a gap space
14:48when you start to move his abdomen around.
14:50On that, though,
14:51it's a nice-looking Lightning Lad.
14:53What do you guys think of the figure?
14:54Let me know down below
14:55in the comments section.
14:56Big thank you, again,
14:57to the folks over at McFarland Toys.
14:58Yeah, they did provide this sample
15:00of the new DC Multiverse Legion of Superheroes
15:02Lightning Lad.
15:04If you guys did enjoy this video,
15:05do it a solid.
15:06Come on, throw it a like.
15:07You guys want to stick around for more, so?
15:08I hope so.
15:09Even though we are
15:10kind of wrapping up things
15:11with one Lightning Lad.
15:12Oh, would you believe?
15:13I know I've already spoiled it.
15:14We are going to be looking at
15:15the other version of Lightning Lad,
15:17the Platinum Edition Lad.
15:19His review will be coming up
15:20probably this week,
15:21so making sure that you're coming back
15:22on a regular basis
15:23on a regular basis.
15:24As always, thanks for watching.
15:25See you guys next time.
