00:00 here's a superhero that's about to go supernova here's a look at the McFarland
00:04 toys DC multiverse the new 52 gold label collection Captain Adam
00:28 grounded ASAF pilot Nathaniel Adam found work at the Continuum a research
00:33 facility run by quantum physicist dr. Megillah Megillah wanted Nate to pilot an
00:37 experimental capsule designed to travel to other dimensions when activated the
00:41 capsule imploded destroying Nate at a subatomic level Nate soon reappeared and
00:45 discovered he had become a living nuclear reactor with the ability to
00:48 manipulate the quantum field general Wade Ealing insisted that Nate was now a
00:52 military asset and a living weapon of mass destruction Nate refused to
00:57 cooperate and instead those to serve the world as Captain Adam just before we
01:02 look at Adam and all of his accessories I'd like to first thank the folks over
01:05 at McFarland toys yes that did provide this sample we're about to have a look
01:09 at following to that let's grab the tape measure and see how tall the figure
01:12 stands Captain Adam in this case is about seven inches in height or the
01:16 figure is gonna be about 18 centimeters tall I feel like if I'm going to compare
01:21 Captain Adam with anybody would make the most sense to compare along with
01:24 Superman now I may not have chosen the best Superman for the job that's the DC
01:28 rebirth one clearly a bigger bulkier build than the slightly smaller build
01:33 that we got with Captain Adam here maybe compare him with something a little bit
01:36 more similar in size here's what the figure looks like with the recently
01:40 looked at Batman nightfall another figure though I did want to compare him
01:42 with involves me having to slide over soups for a second I did also want to
01:47 bring in the gold label edition DC classics Blue Beetle a figure we just
01:50 recently had a look at the real reason why in fact I wanted to bring this
01:53 figure in is because it seems to be that they're using the exact same body not
01:58 maybe though the head but obviously the arms the torso the legs and even the
02:02 hands are shared from both Blue Beetle to Captain Adam as well bodies and the
02:06 obvious displaced in in front of them are the only things that get shared with
02:10 Blue Beetle as of course Captain Adam comes in clue with a unique trading card
02:13 and equally unique constructs that attach to the ends of his forearms
02:17 before we look at the things to the side let's look at the thing to the front
02:20 same Z's department the figure comes in clue with yes the same black displaced
02:24 and has still the familiar DC logo down below and an equally familiar peg to the
02:28 far corner of this that can attach the either feet either boots of Captain Adam
02:33 gonna move that to the side more now to the unique things the figure comes in
02:37 clue with a rather interesting trading card this one actually depicts the
02:40 character more from new 52 which isn't quite really the likeness that they're
02:44 going with when they molded this particular figure I feel like with this
02:47 Captain Adam he actually gets more closer to his classic roots then maybe
02:51 the more outrageous almost Iceman look that he has from the new 52 either way
02:56 flip it around to the back the real name in this case is Nathaniel Adam that's
03:01 sometimes hard to get out and of course there is a quite substantial read up you
03:04 can pause and read for yourself if you want I read this at the beginning you're
03:08 okay and move those to the side the figure also as already mentioned come
03:11 in clue with energy constructs which though speaking of Iceman has a very
03:15 more ice sort of look to them they're a fairly thicker harder plastic than I was
03:20 expecting in fact like the larger one I was even thinking it was gonna be a
03:23 little bit more bendable than what it was but they're using more of a
03:25 translucent almost off bluish tinted plastic and these do fit around his arms
03:31 I don't necessarily say that there's a unique way that they have to be on like
03:35 one side of the figures body or you know they have to be on one or the other I
03:38 guess you could technically fit them on either side if you wanted to though with
03:42 some of these they fit a little bit better like the larger one for example
03:45 you're not actually even sliding I'm talking ahead of myself here you're not
03:50 actually even taking this and sliding this onto the arm you're actually more
03:53 so just sort of clipping this around his forearm and then this just basically
03:56 fits around his arm like this you can then take the other side and I find
04:01 actually helps just to kind of pry this one slightly more open to fit that
04:04 around his hand and then again you're just gonna move that up his form and the
04:08 figure can be displayed like this now let's just say for that you wanted to
04:11 flip these around you don't like the way the configuration I have right now you
04:15 can in theory again just bend these and rotate them around but honestly I do
04:19 find like the constructs work a little bit better on the other side but if you
04:23 wanted to of course you can just display it on this side also as well nothing's
04:26 necessarily preventing you from following the format that I'm doing yeah
04:30 if you wanted to flip around you can also do that as well so let's go take
04:33 ahead go ahead and take those off for right now we're gonna put those to the
04:36 side I'm sure they're probably gonna be coming back a little bit later into this
04:39 review getting though a closer look at Captain I gotta say I really like the
04:42 look of this figure of course like as most of the iterations iterations of
04:47 this character both in cartoon and comics he's generally more a silver
04:50 cladded character now they've nicely done the silver here on the figure there
04:55 are a few little areas admittingly like the front of his torso for example and
04:58 the shoulders that have sort of the marbling that go along with sometimes
05:01 mixing this type of plastic together it usually often happens when they do
05:05 metallic plastics I've been just talking McFarland's team but really across the
05:09 board any company that usually is known to make metal metallic plastics tend to
05:13 usually leave the plastic with a little bit of marbling so like there's a little
05:16 bit here on the shoulder I see a lot more of it though really running across
05:19 the front he's kind of got this you can see right there this line that runs
05:23 across the top of his chest and he's got some very visibly visible marbling there
05:27 on the top of the shoulder doesn't honestly bother me too much by the
05:30 construction of this character anyways he sort of is sort of a always
05:34 generating character's shell so yeah it makes a little more sense to me that you
05:39 know honestly it doesn't bother me at all the fact he does have this like a
05:41 little bit of marbling there on the plastic itself the face itself I will
05:45 say is really good yeah possibly though by the fact that they decided to use say
05:50 the blue beetle body which again like to look at the torsos they are exactly the
05:53 same the arms are the same and actually just prior to hitting the record I wanted
05:57 to switch the hands out to show you that the hands are exact exactly the same as
06:01 well like even the hand that for example he was gonna be holding the grapple gun
06:05 with so happens to also be the same hand that they use for Captain Atom so it is
06:09 maybe the exact same sized body obviously is the exact same body when
06:13 you look at them back-to-back like this the only thing about it though is by
06:16 making him a small frame like this he does look a little bit smaller obviously
06:20 when you compare him with the like of Superman the thing about it though is I
06:23 don't know if I would have gone with a bigger body than this because like the
06:25 next body up tends to be kind of like that eradicator body and I think that
06:29 like the proportions sometimes don't always work with certain characters that
06:32 same body was also used for Superman infected I believe it was also used for
06:36 as well Bizarro but I just don't think like the body would have worked as well
06:39 for Captain Atom so like maybe though while he is a little more
06:43 thinner and slimmer I think maybe this is probably the better body they could
06:46 have gone with when it comes to the figure itself now going though back to
06:49 his face sculpt which again I really like the darker color of the black that
06:53 they did around his eyes it really does help to pop considering like this
06:57 character really has mostly all silver from head to toe he of course has a
07:00 little star symbol that he has on the front of his chest it's painted quite
07:03 well sort of more in a darker though muted kind of burgundy the burgundy is
07:08 also something carries over also to his gloves he also has it for his pegs as
07:11 well now the thing about the pegs I've noticed on mine and I also went back and
07:15 looked at the Blue Beetle as well I don't know if they've actually changed
07:18 the pegs but you'll notice like there's a little gap space in between it doesn't
07:22 seem to necessarily interfere with any bit of the poseability when it comes to
07:25 the hands but I know it's like there's a little more of a slot right there in
07:29 the middle of the peg a little small detail I don't know why I even felt the
07:32 need to point out he get it does that does have again like the softer plastic
07:37 used for his lower lower trunks of course then you've got the harder
07:40 plastic for the rest of it there is a little bit of a breakup like if I just
07:43 move his arms out of the way for example where like the arms the torso and the
07:46 legs don't quite seem to be the same type of silver at least that they've
07:50 used for the trunks and that's just again because like the trunks themselves
07:53 are softer plastic lower down from that of course he does have the blue boots so
07:58 like again there's really not a lot of color on Captain Captain Adams design
08:01 but all the colors that they put to the figure look and work really well with
08:05 the figure itself for the figures articulation going back to once again
08:09 his head sculpt that rotates all the way around if you're familiar by now with the
08:13 Blue Beetle body or really I guess for that matter all the DC multiverse figures
08:16 tend to have this same level of articulation then you already know all
08:20 the territory that we're about to cover the head being on a ball joint does
08:23 allow the head to look up down and rock back and forth and of course the obvious
08:27 one is you can rotate it all the way around arms you come out once again at
08:30 90 degrees in fact actually with this body build you can bring the arms a
08:33 little higher than that and of course they do allow the arms to rotate all the
08:36 way around on both the sides figure does have a bicep swivel of course he does
08:41 have a little socket joint a little cup joint that they put to conceal over the
08:45 way that the arms are pegged in place and in a way you could technically also
08:48 bring these out just a little bit and you can also make like Captain Captain
08:52 Adam look a little bit bigger and broader in the torso I mean it's all
08:56 it's only obviously gonna work if you have the arms out as much as I have
08:59 right now you can they'll kind of bring those arms out just a little bit and
09:03 that will fill out his frame just a little bit more if you want to go that
09:06 route though where do we leave off his arm biceps do swivel yes that's where we
09:11 left off the double hinge on the elbow of course just before we actually look
09:15 at the rest of the figures articulation while it looks like he's kind of patting
09:18 himself on the back I did also want to draw your attention to the fact that
09:21 they clearly have used a different kind of plastic for his elbows and very more
09:24 obviously apparent though he knows that you'll notice it also there on his knees
09:28 I don't know why they didn't use actually the same type type of plastic
09:31 because I can't imagine they would have painted this why they would have not
09:34 then used the same silver here for his knees the knees and the elbows clearly
09:37 look to be a different kind of plastic all together maybe it was maybe a worry
09:41 that they may have had that maybe like this type of plastic would not have
09:44 worked as well for a joint I don't know but either way though it does look like
09:47 it's clearly yeah a different color all together hands rotate it all the way
09:50 around you can also hinge them back and forth the figures body has an upper
09:54 torso bulge right and a quite generous ball joint at the base of the abdomen as
09:58 well though the whole time you're doing this you're probably gonna feel yourself
10:01 squeezing his trunks that doesn't sound so right legs do split out there's a
10:05 ratchet joint once again inside those you can bring the legs forward and bring
10:08 the legs back there is also a mild swivel just by the construction of the
10:12 figure that you can rotate the top of the thigh double hinge though on the
10:15 very obvious need different plastic that they've used no articulation down below
10:19 here to the boot now with the Blue Beetle of course the boots were the same
10:22 as the calves so they've just carried over that same mindset the same
10:26 sculpt set as the Blue Beetle before and of course then he does have the ankle
10:29 articulation can you move it back and forth this way you can rock in fact back
10:33 and forth this way and the figure also has again the appreciated toe
10:36 articulation it's again a really nice-looking figure I'm glad to finally
10:40 see a Captain Adam make his way down to plastic form at least under the banner
10:44 of DC multiverse just get this guy to stand and while though yeah really he is
10:49 just still the same mold brother as this guy right here I don't mind occasionally
10:54 we get ourselves a figure a brand new figure if it means they have to use the
10:58 mold again I don't think it's at the level of Marvel Legends for example and
11:02 that's one of the frustrations I always had with the line was the fact that they
11:04 use the body again and again and again McFarlane doesn't do that as much when
11:08 it comes to his releases yeah occasionally you might get that still
11:11 the same figure carry over a body that that was already used before but if it
11:15 does mean that we also get two figures now using the same body I'm okay really
11:20 with that idea even though really I could use one of the extra ones I have
11:24 laying around I'm surprised actually a Captain Adam didn't come and play with a
11:27 flight stand I've noticed in fact less and less these figures are coming with
11:30 flight stands rather just defaulting instead to the black circular stands
11:34 that they all seem to be packaged with nowadays now even though the figure
11:37 doesn't have the capabilities of flight at least for right now he has still
11:41 managed to get himself a couple of energy constructs which have attached
11:44 on to either one of his arms I want to say attached it's not the case where
11:48 you're actually sliding the hands in like gloves you rather instead actually
11:51 just clipping them onto the forums now I've got them configured like this if
11:54 you wanted to flip them around by all means you can do that as well it doesn't
11:57 seem like they have to belong on one side versus the other easily if you want
12:01 to just flip it around the opposite of the configuration I have you can also do
12:04 that as well now this particular figure already mentioned is using the still
12:08 same body as the gold label edition DC classics Blue Beetle you know again I'm
12:12 okay with that it does though mean that this Captain Adam in comparison to the
12:16 Man of Steel is a little more leaner and slimmer he doesn't have the big and the
12:20 bulk that maybe Superman would have I know in the comics and obviously in the
12:23 Justice League cartoon Captain Adam knowing had similar strengths as
12:27 Superman I mean he's one of the more powerful heroes in the DC universe but
12:31 he also had a similar body and you can't quite mirror that when it comes to this
12:35 plastic release of Captain Adam he's a little bit more leaner than Superman
12:39 which I guess isn't a bad thing at all because the other the other option they
12:42 could have gone the route of using like the Superman infected body those bigger
12:46 bulkier bodies we looked at also on the eradicator I don't think would have
12:49 worked as well for Captain Adam Captain Adam should be a little bit more of a
12:53 muscular yet those slimmer body and I think using the Blue Beetle was probably
12:57 the best way they could have gone it just though means it brought it brings
13:00 more to the attention that the fact that Superman is just a little too big and
13:03 maybe at one point we may get ourselves like a DC classic Superman that's a
13:07 little bit more sized to what we're getting here with Captain Adam what do
13:11 you guys think of the figure let me know down below in the comment section all in
13:13 all I really think this guy turned out nice even though really the card is
13:16 advertising this guy's new 52 I don't really see new 52 when I'm looking at
13:20 the body he looks to me just like I honestly think they just could have
13:23 called this guy DC classics Captain Adam instead of calling him the new 52 either
13:28 way though what do you guys think of the figure let me know down below in the
13:30 comment section is this something you guys could see yourselves picking up and
