00:00Oh, and while I'm at it, why don't I tell her that you're married to a fire-breathing
00:03dragon and you have little mutant donkey-dragon babies.
00:06Here's your look at the McFarlane Toys DreamWorks Shrek Dragon.
00:24In order to save his home, a monster with a donkey makes a deal with a mean lord to
00:28rescue a beautiful princess locked in a castle guarded by a beautiful yet deadly dragon.
00:34I sure hope that while we're looking at the dragon, someone can take care of the six little
00:37troublesome dronkies.
00:39How about though, just before we get a closer look at the dragon, let's grab the tape measure
00:42and see how tall the figure actually stands.
00:43I probably shouldn't again call these figures.
00:45The only possibility that actually is possessed in Dragon Elizabeth here is the articulation
00:49in her head.
00:50The rest of it though is just a staction statue.
00:54Though the statue is going to stand at eight inches in height.
00:56That's including of course the tops of her wings.
00:58That's going to translate though to a statue that's 21 centimeters tall.
01:02I had done this before when we looked at Shrek.
01:04I did want to at least compare this version of the dragon with another one we got from
01:07Todd and his team.
01:08A little bit smaller in size, a little bit more cartoon in design, but you can see that
01:12though if you wanted to and solely just pick up the dragons alone, Elizabeth would scale
01:16pretty well with other ones we've gotten from McFarlane Toys.
01:20Of course also we had a look at Shrek and if you can overlook the fact that there's
01:23considerably a size difference, Shrek should only be really about this size.
01:27Here's though what the figure looks like with a mega size Shrek that we looked at before.
01:30If you jump for the idea that these collectibles have cards, well you'll be flipping over
01:34backwards because Elizabeth has one too.
01:37The one thing though I will say about the card is first of all her name is absent completely.
01:41It's nowhere listed on the front and you're probably thinking it's going to be on the
01:43back.
01:44No, it's not either.
01:46The other thing too is that Elizabeth's image is very blurry.
01:49I feel like it could have been a lot clearer considering this is a trading card that's
01:52going to come in clear with the character.
01:53Yeah flipping around on the back, nowhere listed at all is her real name.
01:56It only gives the real name of being Dragon.
01:59It gives as well a very interesting paragraph read and what makes it so interesting though
02:02is that online sites that are listing this pre-order of this Dragon lists it slightly
02:07of a different read up than what we're seeing on the back of the card.
02:09Not that it's a big deal, nobody really even cares about that, but I care and I felt the
02:13need to include that 411 information to you guys, the viewing audience.
02:17This card as blurry as it may be is going to go off to the side.
02:20I'm sure probably will be coming back to the end of this review.
02:23No, it's only going to be there for the rest of this review.
02:26There is some assembly that's required though for the Dragon.
02:29First of all, you have to attach her onto the display base.
02:31You also have to attach the wings.
02:32You can choose the order in which you want to do that.
02:34I actually thought it was a better idea to include the wings first just because when
02:38you're putting on the wings, you really have to struggle to get them in.
02:41They don't even so much tab in place where there's a peg, there's a hole, you line up
02:45the simple shapes.
02:46No, in fact, actually it's friction forced.
02:48It's a slightly larger peg and you basically, it's a rubbery plastic first of all, and you
02:53really have to really push it in and you have to twist it while you're doing it.
02:57Eventually though, it gave way and I was able to attach the wings securely on the back of
03:00the figure's body.
03:02The other thing, as already mentioned though, is that you can take the Dragon and there's
03:05a peg on the bottom of her feet.
03:07It plugs onto the display base, I suppose just before doing that, we can actually look
03:10at the display base.
03:11I am certain, I'm just looking over here to the Dragon I brought in earlier.
03:16It's not that Dragon.
03:17It's not that one that's over there, but I'm sure we have gotten this terrain before with
03:21another Dragon release from Mick Farland and his team.
03:23The only thing differently done here though is the fact that they printed on obviously
03:26Shrek and they made the colors, I think, a little bit more accurate to the CG film.
03:31The bottom of the base is completely hollow plastic, but you can basically take your Dragon.
03:35There's really no way that she's going to be able to stand without it because obviously
03:38there's going to be that peg.
03:39I mean, if you've got to put her down on that, yeah, I mean, she probably, if anything, is
03:43going to lean a little bit further forward.
03:45Let's complete at least the job.
03:46We're going to go ahead and just take her and we'll just attach her.
03:48I don't know why I had to twist it so awkwardly like that, but you're basically just going
03:51to, there's the hole right there, line up the peg.
03:53You guys can do this.
03:54I can, I know I can count on you and basically just plug that in place.
03:57I mean, it's not to the point where it feels like it's permanently attached.
04:00In fact, you can probably see as well as some other peg points there that would have been
04:03occupied by other Dragon's feet.
04:05Just not the case this time around.
04:07The Dragon looks good.
04:08The one thing about it though is, I will say, I like the display stand, but I wish they
04:12kind of kept the consistent look for that when we got the release of Shrek.
04:16It's basically just a larger mega-sized display stand.
04:19I wish he had gotten some of this grassy terrain similar to Dragon.
04:22That's a side note for obviously something I probably could have talked about when we
04:24looked at the review of Shrek.
04:26Though looking at Elizabeth though, it's a nicely detailed recreation of the one that
04:31we got from the movie.
04:33There has been as well another release of Dragon.
04:35In fact, actually back in 2001, McFarlane Toys did a whole line of Shrek toys.
04:40Some people completely forget the fact that they did that and they had done of course
04:43Shrek, they had done Princess Fiona, they had done Donkey, Lord Farquaad, and they also
04:48at one point had done Elizabeth.
04:50Now Elizabeth had the shackle collar around her neck.
04:53This one doesn't have that at all.
04:55I don't think you probably would need it either.
04:56I mean obviously by this point, she's already fallen in love with Donkey.
05:00She just has no need for a collar.
05:01If anyone needs to get the collar, it needs to be Donkey.
05:06There is some head articulation though that basically represents the only levels of poseability
05:10that this Dragon actually does possess.
05:12You can swivel the head back and forth.
05:14The mouth does not open and close.
05:15I mean while initially looking at that, I thought the mouth would be able to move and
05:19sure enough, it doesn't.
05:20Obviously it makes the most sense that they chose not to have this as an articulated point
05:24because that would just break up the sculpt around it and it's too pretty of a sculpt
05:27if you ask me.
05:28If you're a big fan and lover of dragons, too pretty of a head to start breaking things
05:32up with articulation points but you can see like there's a line right there that would
05:35almost have given the suggestion that something would be able to move and yet that is not
05:39the case.
05:40These are nicely colored there on both sides.
05:42Little tiny slits make up the pupils.
05:44Got the little spikes there on the side that are pretty soft and plastic.
05:47Nice coloring overall for the ears.
05:49The head is very much a different coloring of red than we get treated for the rest of
05:52the body.
05:53The body gets very much I'm guessing the coloring of kind of like the interior of the
05:57palm.
05:58Kind of this dark salmon pink but then they brushed on top of it just to pop all those
06:02details of the scales out.
06:03Brushed on a little bit of white paint.
06:05It does look nice.
06:06I think they've done a nice job on this.
06:07The thing I really like too is the way they've panel lined the wings.
06:10Still again they've added the dusting of the white but by adding all this dark panel lining
06:14to the wings it really allows them to pop.
06:17Not to mention all the individual spikes that stick out all across the spine of her body.
06:21Now again there's no poseability at all in this other than just the already mentioned
06:24head sculpt.
06:25I don't think it necessarily needs it either.
06:26I mean I was kind of like looking at the arm for example and there's what seems to be a
06:30cut line right there and yet you can't move the arm.
06:33Don't move it whatever you do.
06:34You're only just going to break it.
06:36You're going to snap the arm off.
06:37You're going to accuse me of the one that was telling you to move it in the first place.
06:40I never said that.
06:41I would have never told you guys to do that.
06:43So if you try to think that you can just blame this all on me, don't blame it on me.
06:47Don't blame it on me.
06:48The coloring is nicely done there on the interior.
06:50There isn't really any other color.
06:52I think they could have added a little bit of lighter coloring added in there as well.
06:55It's just really one color of paint and that's all they've really done.
06:58With so much that they've done to the rest of the body and so much work that they put
07:02into painting the head, I wish like maybe the undercarriage or the belly of the dragon
07:06could have been given a little bit of that as well.
07:09But all in all, a nice looking dragon.
07:11Whether you choose to have this one or if you were lucky enough to start collecting
07:14the ones way back in 2001, I was going to say 2011, 2001.
07:19So that's 23 years ago that McFarlane and his team crafted fantastic looking Shrek figures.
07:25I'm hoping at the very least.
07:27Now when some have said though, I'm just going to slide this one over.
07:29I'm going to bring back in the mega sized Shrek that we've already had a look at.
07:33Some those speculate that this Shrek simply is just a sized up version of the original
07:37one that we got from 2001.
07:39May possibly be the case because of course that may also explain why the possibility
07:42was a little bit more limited on him.
07:44But I hope if they still have, you would think that they have still the molds, right?
07:48I mean, I can't think, imagine, I can't even imagine they probably would have scrapped
07:50those molds.
07:51If they had the molds tucked away in a dusty attic somewhere, I think they could easily
07:55have dusted them off and just reuse the molds.
07:58Finally give us a donkey, a Fiona and Lord Fogwa.
08:01I mean, I don't think we necessarily need to get the other dragon because again, like
08:04the dragon posed a little bit differently.
08:07Like if you were to look at the original one, the head would have been a little bit more
08:09turned to the side and our tail basically would have been cascading around the front
08:13like this.
08:14This dragon I think looks a little bit nicer of a part and it also doesn't have a shackled
08:17collar.
08:18I don't think she necessarily needs that either.
08:19A nice release.
08:20It's not going to scale obviously to Shrek as you're seeing this whole time at this guy
08:23behind the scenes just yammering away.
08:26There's no way that you can really recreate the idea that this dragon has any fear whatsoever
08:30because I mean, like if Shrek was only about this size, the dragon I think would fare a
08:34little bit better.
08:35When you've got Shrek about this size, I mean, it's a little harder for the dragon not to
08:39be able to be a little bit more intimidated by the size of Shrek.
08:42Yeah.
08:43One thing also too that they could have also done is maybe included with the release of
08:48Elizabeth here, maybe a little small miniature versions of Shrek and Donkey.
08:52Something that maybe could have gone like if we're just looking at the display base,
08:55for example.
08:56Something that could have gone here and here.
08:57I mean, like if you're looking at the size of it in the movie, they're probably not even
08:59that size.
09:00They're a little bit bigger than that.
09:01But yeah, I would certainly like to see maybe Todd dust off some of the original molds that
09:05he released in the 2001 wave of Shrek figures and maybe in fact re-release those similar
09:10to maybe what they had done here with the mega size Shrek that we looked at before.
09:14Actually come to think of it, Donkey is just a little bit bigger than Elizabeth's head.
09:18Realistically it could have been something that they could have included onto the base
09:21but considering already the base is being occupied by the size of the dragon's body,
09:26to add then extra pieces along it would have also increased the cost of this.
09:30By the way though, the cost of Elizabeth the dragon is about $49.99.
09:34I'm basing that at least of the online sites that have the pre-order right now of her.
09:38She's apparently going to be slated to release in November 2024.
09:40Yes, you're right.
09:42It is November 2024.
09:44So she should be dropping any minute now.
09:46A big thank you again to the folks over at McFarland Toys that did allow me the chance
09:50to have a look at the brand new Shrek Elizabeth the dragon even though it's not listed anywhere
09:53on the packaging.
09:54It's not listed on the card.
09:55This woman needs a name after all whether she's a dragon or not.
09:59But again, what do you guys think of this?
10:00Let me know down below in the comment section.
10:01Have you guys also collected the original 2001 Shrek figures courtesy of the folks over
10:06at McFarland Toys?
10:07And if you have, let me know.
10:08You still have them in your collection?
10:10Again I would love to see them just dust off those molds again and release those figures.
10:15Give them just a new packaging, a new coat of paint so to speak.
10:17Yeah, I would be certainly open to the idea.
10:20I mean you could always just really try to track down the 2001 ones that we got from
10:24obviously way back when.
10:26But 23 years ago, that would mean also that you're probably going to have to check to
10:29places like eBay.
10:30You're probably going to be crying a lot realizing the prices of what those things are going
10:33for now.
10:35If you guys did enjoy this video, do it a solid.
10:37Throw it a like.
10:38You guys want to stick around for more so?
10:40I hope so.
10:41We may be leaving right now the world of Shrek but we are still going to be sticking in the
10:44world of McFarland Toys.
10:45There's definitely going to be more coming your way during the rest of this week.
10:48As always, thanks for watching.
10:50See you guys next time.
