00:00I wanna know why things happen and how and I wanna know everything now, oh yeah!
00:06How does this thing work? Why does that stuff change? How does that do what it just did?
00:11Hmm, what's up with the sky? Do you think I could fly?
00:14The world is spinning and I wanna know why!
00:17I got a lot of questions and big ideas! I'm Sid, the Science Kid!
00:22My shoes! My favorite shoes!
00:25Oh hi, I'm Sid! Guess what? My feet won't fit inside my favorite shoes anymore!
00:32When I got these shoes last summer, they fit inside no problem!
00:35But now, I just can't get them in!
00:39Oh, come on shoes, get on my feet!
00:44Arnie, can you believe this?
00:48He can't believe it.
00:51Hey, have your shoes ever gotten too small?
00:54Why do shoes get too small anyway?
00:56And why did it have to happen to my favorite shoes?
00:59Well, I'm not gonna take it anymore!
01:04Hey! Okay, look at that! They fit!
01:08Oh, okay, ouch!
01:10Maybe they're a little small, but I can still wear them!
01:13Hey, I wonder what happened to these shoes anyway?
01:16I got it! My shoes are shrinking! Yes, that's it!
01:20But why would shoes shrink?
01:22Why don't they just, you know, fit forever?
01:25I just gotta know!
01:27Why are my shoes shrinking?
01:31Shrinking! Shrinking! Shrinking!
01:33Sid! Breakfast!
01:36Breakfast time!
01:40Breakfast time!
01:44Morning, Sid!
01:45Hey, morning, Sid!
01:46Good morning!
01:48What's the matter there, big guy?
01:50Mom, Dad, Zeke, I have an announcement!
01:53My shoes don't fit!
01:55Oh, well then take them off!
01:57You can wear your brown dress shoes to school!
01:59Brown dress shoes? To school?
02:02But they're not good for running, and I might get them all muddy!
02:05It's just one day! I'll stop and buy you some new shoes on the way home from work!
02:09Thanks, Mom!
02:11I love my mom!
02:13Oh, wait a minute! I forgot to tell you why my shoes don't fit!
02:17My shoes don't fit because my shoes are shrinking!
02:22Sid, your shoes are not shrinking, your feet are growing!
02:26All of you is growing! You are getting bigger!
02:30I am?
02:32Yeah, I guess I am!
02:34But how come I can't see myself growing?
02:37Well, you can, sort of!
02:39Come here, take a look!
02:41See this? These are the marks we made to see how tall you've grown!
02:44Cool!
02:45And step on up, let's see!
02:47Wow, look at that! I think it's time to make a new mark!
02:50You are getting bigger!
02:52Okay, step over here!
02:54And I'll put my finger right at the top of your head!
02:56Okay, good! Now step away and I'll mark it!
02:58Look at that!
03:00Wow, I am growing!
03:02Oh, hey, hold on! Is Zeke growing too?
03:04He sure is! Zeke's alive!
03:07And everything living grows!
03:09Really?
03:10Here, I'll show you!
03:12Let's find some information on the computer!
03:17Mom knows a lot about computers! She's really smart!
03:21Here we are! Watch this!
03:24Little trees grow into big trees!
03:28Baby bear cubs grow into big bears!
03:32And even little chicks grow into big chickens!
03:35Wow! I wonder how long it takes to grow bigger!
03:39Well, maybe you can investigate more at school!
03:41Good idea, Mort! But first, eat your breakfast!
03:44Then you can put on your dress shoes! We need to leave soon!
03:47Oh, okay!
03:49Come on! Breakfast is served!
03:55Oh yeah! It's almost time for school!
04:05I love my mom! My mom is cool!
04:08But now it's time for having fun at school!
04:24I'm looking for my friends!
04:26I'm looking for you!
04:28There's Gabriella!
04:30Watch what I can do!
04:32La la wooh! La la wooh! Oh yeah!
04:37Wow! I'm looking for my friends!
04:40I'm looking for you!
04:42Hey, there's Cheryl!
04:43Yeah! Check out my moves!
04:48I'm a rock star!
04:50Cool! I'm looking for my friends!
04:53I'm looking for you!
04:55Hey, there's Meg!
04:57May I show you how I groove?
05:03Hey!
05:04Groovy!
05:05We're looking for our friends!
05:07We're looking for you!
05:09Hey, there's Sid!
05:11Did you hear the one about the kid who wanted to know everything about everything?
05:14That's you!
05:22We're looking for our friends!
05:24And look who we found!
05:26We found each other!
05:28Friends!
05:33And now it's time for the Sid survey!
05:37Hello, I am Sid, roving reporter with today's survey.
05:41The question, can you name something that grows?
05:45And you can think about things that grow too!
05:47Let's go get some answers!
05:49Hey, Gabriella, can you name something that grows?
05:52Yes, I can!
05:53Big brothers grow!
05:55My big brother eats everything!
05:57And he eats all the time!
05:58He grows a lot!
06:00Fascinating! Let's learn more!
06:02Hey there, May, how about you?
06:04Can you name something that grows?
06:06Yeah, sure!
06:07Cats grow!
06:08When I got my cat Moosoo, he was a cute little furry kitten.
06:12And now he's a cute big furry cat!
06:16You know, he is cute and furry.
06:18Yeah, I've seen him.
06:19Hey, I know something that grows!
06:21Oh, what is it, Gerald?
06:23Trees!
06:24There's a tree in my front window that keeps growing bigger and making more and more leaves!
06:29And now, I can't see out my window!
06:32Thank you, Gerald!
06:34And now the results of my survey.
06:36Gabriella says that big brothers grow.
06:39May says cats grow.
06:41And Gerald says trees grow.
06:44And they have big leaves.
06:46Yeah, and now I can't see out my window!
06:49Well, there you have it.
06:51I am Sid, groving reporter and growing expert.
06:55Everybody, rug time!
06:58Oh, that's Teacher Suzie!
07:00It's rug time, come on in!
07:02Rug time, take a seat!
07:04Rug time, we're ready!
07:06Everybody, move your feet!
07:08Rug time, Teacher Suzie!
07:10Good time, on the way!
07:11Rug time, come on in!
07:13We've got a lot to learn today!
07:17Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream!
07:22Come on, Gerald, row yourself over here!
07:24Okay! Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a...
07:28Oh, no! Waterfall!
07:33Stop going downstream!
07:36Okay, so, who wants to share something with the class?
07:40A story, a song?
07:41Oh, I have something to share.
07:43Okay, Sid, go ahead.
07:44Well, today I'm wearing my brown dress shoes.
07:47And they're not my favorite shoes.
07:49But I had to wear them because my favorite shoes don't fit anymore.
07:52Yeah, I can't fit on my tricycle anymore. It's too small.
07:57That's what happened with our backyard swing.
07:59I can't fit in the little seat anymore.
08:01Well, you know why all that stuff doesn't fit anymore?
08:04My mom and dad say it's because we're growing.
08:08Your mom and dad?
08:10That's right, your mom and dad were right, Sid.
08:12With food, water, air, and some sunshine, everyone grows.
08:17I'm getting taller.
08:18I know because dad made a mark on the wall to show me.
08:21You're not only getting taller, but every single part of you is growing.
08:25Your feet, your hands, your ears.
08:28Our feet?
08:29Our arms?
08:30Our earlobes?
08:31Our head?
08:33Susie, I have a question.
08:35I know that we grow, but why can't we see ourselves growing?
08:39Well, we can't see it because it takes time to grow and change.
08:42Can we see something here?
08:43Can we grow something here?
08:45Wow, you're all asking great questions.
08:47And I know the perfect place to investigate growing.
08:50Okay, scientists, you know where we're going.
08:54To the Super Fab Lab!
08:56That's right, so grab your journals and let's go!
08:59Okay!
09:08Super Fab Lab!
09:10Observe!
09:11Compare!
09:12Contrast!
09:14Okay, does everyone remember the plant investigation we've been doing?
09:18Oh, yeah!
09:19We planted little seeds to see how they grow.
09:21And we planted them in wet sponges.
09:24Now that was awesome!
09:26But is that where plants usually grow?
09:29No, plants usually grow in dirt.
09:31Right, May.
09:32But in the sponges, we can really see how the seeds change into plants.
09:37And here they are!
09:39Ta-da!
09:42The sponges worked!
09:43So, who remembers how we did this investigation?
09:46I remember.
09:47First we put a teeny tiny cute little lima bean seed into the sponge.
09:52And then we made the sponge really wet because seeds need water to grow.
09:56Right again, May!
09:58So, which one of these has been growing the least amount of time?
10:02Oh!
10:03Oh!
10:04That one!
10:05That one!
10:06Yeah, we just planted the lima bean seed in a little pot.
10:09Yeah, we just planted the lima bean seed in it yesterday.
10:12That's why we can't see a plant!
10:14It hasn't had time to grow!
10:15You're right!
10:16Okay, scientists.
10:17Now, I'd like you to line up these plants from the youngest to the oldest.
10:22Then, use these rulers to measure how tall the plants are.
10:26Okay!
10:27Okay?
10:28Okay, May!
10:29Yeah!
10:30You're a scientist!
10:31You can try this too!
10:32Okay, scientists.
10:33Let's explore how plants grow.
10:35First, we're going to plant this lima bean seed into this cup.
10:39Push the seed way down into the soil.
10:42And add some water because plants need water to grow.
10:48Now, let's look at some lima bean plants that have been growing on the windowsill for a while.
10:53Let's bring all the plants back to the table.
10:55Wow!
10:56Some of the plants have really grown!
10:58Okay, now line up the plants from the youngest to the oldest.
11:03Great job!
11:04The seed we just planted hasn't had time to grow at all.
11:06But the plants on the windowsill have been growing for a while, so they're taller.
11:10Let's compare our plants and make some observations.
11:13This plant is the smallest.
11:14It hasn't been growing for very long.
11:16This plant has been growing longer.
11:18And this plant has been growing the longest.
11:20It's the tallest and has lots of leaves.
11:22Now, use your rulers to measure the plants.
11:25Wow!
11:26Growing takes a long time!
11:27The tallest plant started growing a long time ago, but it's still not very big.
11:32But it is big enough to move it from the cup into a pot so it can grow even bigger.
11:37While we prepare the soil for the big plant, let's put the smaller plants back on the windowsill so they can keep growing.
11:46Once we put plenty of soil into the pot, we can move the plant into its new home.
11:52Pat down the soil so the plant is nice and snug.
11:54And remember, plants need water to grow!
11:57And now it's ready to put on the windowsill so it can get some sun to help it grow.
12:01Let's make some observations in your journals.
12:03What did the biggest plant look like?
12:05What did the smallest plant look like?
12:07Think about all the plants we observed today.
12:09Wow! I can't wait to find out what observations you made.
12:13May, can we see your journal first?
12:15Okay!
12:16Well, this little lima bean seed that we just planted yesterday is here, so it's the youngest.
12:23And we planted this one and this one a long time ago.
12:28And we planted this one a long, long, long time ago, so that's the oldest plant.
12:36Um, Susie, did we put them all in the right order?
12:39You sure did!
12:40Yay!
12:42Okay, Sid, you can go next. What did you observe?
12:45Oh, um, well, first we measured the plants with our rulers.
12:50This is the one that we just planted, and this is the one that's the tallest,
12:54which has been growing for a long time, but it's still not all that tall.
12:58So I guess it takes a long time for plants to grow.
13:01Great observation, Sid.
13:03Yeah, I think growing happens real slowly.
13:08Come on, plant, grow!
13:11You two, you've got lots of growing to do.
13:15But don't worry, because after a long time, you'll change from a little seed into a great big plant!
13:21Yeah, you're right, May!
13:23And there's a special word for when something changes into something else.
13:28It's called a transformation.
13:32Transformation!
13:35You mean like a little seed growing into a big plant.
13:39And like when May's little kitty Mooshu grew and changed into a big cat!
13:44Yes, you're both correct!
13:46A transformation is when something changes!
13:51Transformation!
13:53I am impressed! My scientists know so much about growing and changing!
13:59I think it's time to play with all your new ideas!
14:03Yay!
14:05Okay!
14:09It's time for...
14:11Good Laughter News!
14:16What do plants say just before they have a race?
14:19I don't know. What?
14:22Ready, set, grow!
14:29Knock, knock!
14:31Who's there?
14:32Orange.
14:33Orange who?
14:35Orange you glad your mom is buying you new shoes so you don't have to wear your brown ones anymore?
14:41Oh yeah!
14:46Hey, where does the giant gorilla sit when he grows too big for his tree?
14:51I don't know!
14:53Where does the giant gorilla sit when he grows too big for his tree?
14:57Anywhere he wants! He's a gorilla!
15:00I'm a gorilla! I'm coming to say hello!
15:07Now that's funny!
15:16Hi Sid!
15:17Oh, hey Gerald!
15:18Hey, you know, I've been thinking!
15:20Wouldn't it be funny if growing old didn't happen slowly?
15:24Yeah! What if we grew super duper fast?
15:28Let's try!
15:29Yeah!
15:30Okay!
15:31We're little babies!
15:32Wah! Wah! Feed me!
15:34She's my diaper!
15:37Oh, now we'll grow bigger!
15:39I'm two years old!
15:40What do two year olds say?
15:42No!
15:43No! No! No! No!
15:48Now let's grow even faster! We're parents!
15:51Yeah!
15:52Hello Gerald! How was work today?
15:55I drove to work and drank coffee. That's what I did at work.
15:58Ah yes! Very interesting! I read the newspaper today! It had lots of words in it!
16:06Now we're gonna be really old!
16:09Hello there! I'm Grandpa!
16:11Yeah! Me too! I like golf!
16:14Hey, it's Candy Drifty in here!
16:16Yeah!
16:17Oh, let me just push this button on my microphone!
16:20Don't hurt yourself!
16:21Here we go!
16:29And now...
16:30It's time...
16:32For Suzy...
16:33To sing!
16:36Yeah!
16:38Thank you! Thank you! And thank you!
16:42You know, we've been talking a lot about how plants grow.
16:45Well, how would you like to hear a song about a little seed that changed into a beautiful flower?
16:52You bet!
16:53How long have I been napping? When did this transformation happen?
16:57My itty-bitty little seed really grew!
17:00I almost didn't recognize you, I can't believe your size!
17:03You are not the little flower I knew!
17:06You look different while you're growing!
17:10You look different!
17:11Your change is positively showing!
17:14You've been on a growing spree!
17:16How big will you be?
17:17You look different and I like what I see!
17:20Every day you're reaching out to the whole world to admire!
17:24You're in one of your many growth spurts!
17:27So you wake up in the morning, you've changed without a warning!
17:30If you were a kid, you'd need new pants and new shirts!
17:33You look different while you're growing!
17:37You look different!
17:38Your change is positively showing!
17:41You've been on a growing spree!
17:43How big will you be?
17:44You look different and I like what I see!
17:47All living things go through a transformation, you know!
17:53And that's what you're doing, so do what you're doing!
17:56And grow, grow, grow!
17:59You look different while you're growing!
18:02You look different!
18:04Your change is positively showing!
18:06You've been on a growing spree!
18:08How big will you be?
18:10You look different and I like what I see!
18:17Hey, now we know that when things grow...
18:20Like a flower!
18:21Or a mouse!
18:22Or your feet!
18:24They grow really, really slowly!
18:30And now it's time to go home!
18:39Now where's my seed?
18:41Right here, Grandma!
18:48Now, okie doke, let's roll!
18:50Let's roll!
18:54Oh!
18:55Ha ha ha ha!
18:59Backseat driving with Grandma!
19:03Ok, kiddo, tell me about your day!
19:05Well, we learned that everything that's alive...
19:08Grows!
19:09Even my feet!
19:11I sure wish my favorite shoes still fit!
19:14Oh, sounds like you wish you had a new pair of shoes!
19:16Oh yeah!
19:17Well, you know, when I was a little girl,
19:19I had a favorite pair of shoes too!
19:21Actually, we couldn't afford lots of shoes,
19:23I only had one pair of shoes!
19:25Ha ha ha!
19:26And I wore them everywhere!
19:28I wore my shoes to school,
19:29I wore my shoes to the playground,
19:31I wore my shoes whenever I danced!
19:33Oh yeah!
19:34I had some moves!
19:36Ha ha ha!
19:37Woo!
19:38And then I got too big for my shoes.
19:40I handed them down to my little sister!
19:42And when she got too big for her shoes,
19:43She handed them to her youngest sister!
19:45That's why we call them
19:46Hand-me-down shoes!
19:48Ha ha ha!
19:49Yeah!
19:50Woo!
19:51Those shoes really got worn down
19:52But we all like to dance!
19:54Woo!
19:55Grandma, you can still dance!
19:57You're right, Sid, I can!
19:59Woo!
20:00Ha ha ha!
20:01My grandma's the best!
20:07I learned something cool,
20:08Something cool today!
20:09I know what upside down and inside out
20:11I learned all about
20:13Ha ha ha!
20:15Growing!
20:18Woo hoo!
20:20Scientists in the house!
20:25Hey, Dad!
20:26Yeah!
20:27Oh, hey, Zekie!
20:28Ha ha ha!
20:29Hey, Dad, you remember this morning,
20:31I asked how long it takes to grow
20:32And you said to investigate?
20:34Sure do, how'd it go?
20:35Well, I learned that growing happens
20:38Slowly...
20:40Ha ha ha!
20:41Wow, I am impressed!
20:43Hey, son, did you fix the washing machine?
20:45Oh, that thing was noisy!
20:47Yeah, it's all fixed!
20:48Now it's on to my next project!
20:49Oh!
20:50You know, this morning, Sid reminded me
20:51That Zeke is growing too
20:53So I thought I'd start measuring him
20:55On this side of the doorframe
20:56Oh, cool! Can I help, Dad?
20:58Oh, absolutely! Here, take the pencil
20:59All right
21:00I'll lift up Zeke and hold him
21:02And you can mark the doorframe
21:04Wow, Zeke, I get to make your first mark!
21:06Now we'll know how tall you are!
21:08There we go!
21:09Hello! I'm home!
21:11And look what I've got!
21:13My new shoes! Awesome!
21:16They're a size bigger, so they should fit
21:18Oh, great! And then when Zeke's big enough
21:20He can wear my old shoes!
21:21Oh, I like that idea!
21:23Yeah!
21:24Hey, they fit!
21:25Thanks, Mom!
21:27Aw, yeah!
21:29I think these shoes worked just great!
21:31But I gotta test them a little more!
21:32Bye!
21:36Hey, what a great day!
21:38We looked at the sponges where our seeds were growing
21:40And next we're gonna plant them in dirt
21:42But that's gonna take a long time
21:43Because growing happens slowly
21:45And then we learned about transformation
21:49Oh, that's a cool word!
21:54And now I know that my shoes weren't shrinking
21:57I was growing
21:59And that got me thinking
22:01What do you do with your old shoes that don't fit?
22:03I mean, if your kid brother or sister is too small to wear them
22:05What are you gonna do?
22:07Okay, I've got it!
22:09Here's my super-duper-ooper-schmooper big idea!
22:13How about if I invent
22:15Super-duper-stretchy-shoes-that-grow-too!
22:20Even when I'm nine or ten or even an adult
22:23No matter how big I get
22:25My stretchy shoes will stretch and grow too!
22:27And even if I grew super-duper-big
22:29My shoes would stretch super-duper-big too!
22:31I could grow bigger than my house
22:33Bigger than a giraffe
22:35Even bigger than a skyscraper!
22:37Isn't that the coolest?
22:39Then I'd never get too big for my favorite pair of shoes!
22:41And that's my super-duper-ooper-schmooper big idea!
22:50Hey, I'd stick around but
22:52I've got some growing to do
22:54And I bet you do too!
22:57I am Sid
22:59The Science Kid!
23:03And remember, keep asking lots and lots of questions!
23:07See you later, scientists!

23:27Observe! Compare! Contrast!
23:33Hey, I know how to observe, compare and contrast
23:36And I bet you do too!
23:38Observe! That's when you look really closely at something
23:40And listen to it, maybe even smell it and feel it
23:44Compare! That's when you look at two things
23:46And think about how they're the same
23:48Contrast! That's when you observe things
23:50And think about what's different about them
23:53Hey, scientists! There's lots more amazing science coming your way
23:56My friends and I will learn how to use science tools
