00:00You're up 18.
00:01But no, Stani, I'm not panicking at all, but I just, I didn't like what I saw last night
00:06and I really believe, no excuses, 95% of the two losses and what happened is your second
00:14unit struggling to score without its best player, Jonathan Kaminga.
00:19So, that's where I'm at.
00:20I mean, come on, the Warriors are still a great season.
00:24I didn't like last, I didn't see it happening and, you know, no need to be worried.
00:29If they've lost the last two games because they didn't have Kaminga, they'll probably
00:33be healthy tomorrow and we'll be back to rolling.
00:36Well, you got a better team coming in tomorrow, do you?
00:39And Brooklyn ran you down without their, but Cam was hurt the last few, uh.
00:44And he is who?
00:45He's their best scorer.
00:46No doubt, right.
00:47Scorer.
00:48Gotcha.
00:49But the team was rolling without him.
00:52I didn't know.
00:53They scored 41 in the fourth quarter.
00:55You know that the sum of a team's parts often are better than one guy getting off.
01:01What's going on there defensively for the Warriors?
01:03Because San Antonio, a couple nights before it scored, 33.
01:08I'll just tell you what Chris Mullen said on the post-game show and when he said it,
01:14I was like, oh God.
01:16He hit it.
01:17Their point of attack defense last night was terrible.
01:22The Nets were just getting into the lane, kicking, making shots.
01:25Stoney, a lot of that is athleticism too, though.
01:28There's no D sometimes for that.
01:30Well then, that's going to always be a problem.
01:34Because Melton was the guy who was good at that.
01:37And you know, Steph had trouble keeping Schroeder in front of him, so Pods, so did everybody.
01:43And uh.
01:44I do wonder where Moody, uh, Moody, good Lord.
01:47Moody went 15 points in the first half, Stoney?
01:50How many minutes did he play?
01:51Uh, I got it up.
01:53Let's see, Moody played, Moody played 16 minutes.
02:00And had 15 points in the first half and didn't get a bucket the second half.
02:05And didn't finish the game.
02:07And Pods is out there, and Evan brought it up, who's going to handle the Rock?
02:10But I'm like, that can't be the reason Moody's not on the floor.
02:13If he was one, had it going.
02:15Well, Moody can't play point.
02:16Moody cannot bring the ball up.
02:18So they need Waters, Pudzemski, or Curry to bring the ball, or Draymond.
02:22Or Draymond.
02:23Uh, this is Zarka, you want to talk about Moody?
02:26Uh, listen to this question and answer from Postgame.
02:29How important is like rhythm to be able to sustain, you know, how you're feeling out
02:34there for you?
02:35That's not a luxury I've had through my career.
02:38So I've kind of had to figure out how to play whenever, whatever happens, whatever the opportunity
02:44is.
02:45So, um, I kind of just deal with whatever, whatever it is.
02:49So, uh, I don't necessarily look for outside things as in my plan, time, rotation, whatever
02:55it is.
02:56Just when I get the opportunity, I take the shots that I get.
02:59I take the driving lanes that I get and just play.
03:02Go ahead, say wow.
03:04No, I was just like, that's his reality.
03:08It's no wow.
03:09He telling the truth.
03:10I just didn't understand why pods finished that game more so than Moody.
03:15And again, it goes back to the whole Kyle thing, right?
03:17He doesn't bring up, he can't run point, but I mean, set it up strategically to where we,
03:22you know, the team can get them some looks or whatnot.
03:26But Stani for him to kind of vanish, it's just weird.
03:30How many minutes are you playing?
03:32Like I don't know what his minutes, let me see what his minutes were at half.
03:38He wasn't bad in the second half for him not to, you know, to be called upon.
03:43And you know, I'm watching Brandon Stani and I'm with my sons, you know, this guy I'm rooting
03:49for him.
03:50But I mean, my goodness, if there's a thing called over dribbling or waiting to the shot
03:55clock is about to go out and then throw it to you or Evan for you to not be able to do
04:00anything.
04:01I'm wondering like, man, he's not beating anybody off to dribble.
04:04How can Moody not have been a thought?
04:06That's all.
04:07That was a thought.
04:08So he played eight minutes in the first half and he was six for seven and he played eight
04:11minutes in the second half and he was all for one.
04:14So now there we go.
04:16We get back to the question about, well, who's that on?
04:21You know, and listen, if you're going to play 11 or 12 guys, this is the kind of question
04:27I said we're going to be asking every single game.
04:31Moody played 16 minutes, maybe should have played 24.
04:35And I'm not going to tell you wrong, but the way they're doing it is is the way they're
04:39doing it.
04:41And he's he's never I mean, Moody's right.
04:46Moody's never been able to just play.
04:49But again, I think that's more of a function of Steve Kerr and when and where this guy
04:55was drafted.
04:57And as I look at this particular team this particular year, I don't know how you decide
05:04who plays night to night.
05:07Wow.
05:08If if you're going to try to play an 11 man rotation, it's got to be a feel from the coach.
05:13And maybe he would maybe he was prepared to play Moody the last eight minutes of the game.
05:18But the the the eight second half minutes that started the second half maybe wasn't
05:24up Steve Kerr's alley.
05:26I don't know.
05:27And I'll say this.
05:28A lot of people on Twitter were questioning Draymond and Steph, you know, them coming
05:32in with about eight or seven minutes left in the fourth quarter.
05:36We talked about this like that.
05:37You got to keep them fresh.
05:38But I don't think the Steve Kerr thought for one minute they weren't going to be able to
05:43stop Brooklyn from scoring.
05:45And that's what went into them coming back in the fourth quarter, you know, down four.
05:50OK, my guys are back.
05:52You know, we'll we'll we'll D up and we'll win this game.
05:55But man, 128 points in non in regulation.
06:00That's a lot.
06:02Kerr came back.
06:03Curry came back with seven minutes and twenty nine seconds.
06:07That's that's plenty of time to get that game back under control.
06:11This is a.
06:12They're going to say only 12 is what I mean.
06:16OK, six.
06:17And I'm just listen, I'm not I'm just giving you what maybe Steve Kerr would tell you.
06:21Six five.
06:22Oh, well, don't you ride the hot hand?
06:23Well, he wasn't hot in the second half, Moody.
06:26He only took one shot.
06:27He was hot in the first half in eight minutes, played well.
06:31And in the second half, he played eight minutes and they were a little bit indistinguishable.
06:35So again, if you're going to say Moody should have played more, I'm not going to tell you
06:40you're wrong, because who knows who could have ended up finishing that game and there
06:46would have been a different result.
06:47I don't I don't know.
06:49But I'm just trying to put myself in Steve Kerr's position.
06:53If he were asked why Moody didn't play more.
06:56Let's go to Josh.
06:58Josh is on 580.
06:59What's up, Josh?
07:00How are you doing?
07:01How are you doing?
07:02What's going on?
07:03Hey, beautiful day.
07:04You know, happy holidays.
07:05Happy Thanksgiving to both of y'all.
07:06But yeah, man, I think what's interesting to me over the last two games is Jonathan
07:14Kaminga.
07:15You know, we he's such a highly talked about person of it.
07:19You work the contract.
07:20You work the value.
07:21I think what we saw in the first, you know, 10 games when they were winning, they looked
07:25so much more athletic and bouncy and, you know, Melton and Kaminga were a big part of
07:30that coming on that second unit.
07:31And Buddy Heald.
07:32Where was Buddy Heald in the second half?
07:34That was a big question I had about yesterday.
07:36But my main point is Jonathan Kaminga is very, very, very important to how far this team
07:41is going to go this season.
07:42I'm not saying he's an all star or anything like that, but they need athleticism.
07:46And he's the only guy off the bench that can get by somebody.
07:50You watch that second half from Paz and Kyle Anderson, all the four that can't get past
07:55anybody.
07:56They can't create anything for anybody else.
07:57And it just logs everything up.
07:59And that's what we saw last year, which is why I think people are worried about what's
08:02going to happen going forward, because that was the big issue.
08:05The bench couldn't score.
08:06So when Buddy and Kaminga, you brought in Melton, that lineup was putting up points
08:10and it was athletic.
08:11They could run.
08:12They're making things happen.
08:13So, you know, going 11 and 12 deep is great when you have, you know, 11, 12 athletic guys
08:18to play.
08:19But no shake.
08:20No Kaminga.
08:21Now you're playing Lindy Waters a lot of minutes.
08:22He can play.
08:23You can't play him extended minutes, right?
08:25You know, now you're in a weird situation.
08:27So I know Kaminga's injury is not serious.
08:29He's going to come back.
08:30But I just think that these two games show a lot of what he means to this team, because
08:35they need firepower on the bench.
08:37If not, they have to play extended minutes, which Kurt doesn't want to do early in the
08:41season.
08:42But that's one of those games.
08:43He's got to come back earlier because you don't have firepower on the bench when you
08:46don't have Kaminga.
08:47You don't have Melton.
08:48So just something to watch for.
08:49I don't think they're really in trouble.
08:51I think it's just like, Kaminga is valuable.
08:54I'm not saying he's the all-star, but he's just valuable.
08:56You notice it when he's not in there with that second unit.
08:59Well said.
09:00Don't disagree with that.
09:02You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM at HD1 San Francisco.
09:06Always live on the free Odyssey app, Twitch and YouTube, powered by First NorCal Credit
09:09Union.
09:13I've never said, and I've heard this from a lot of fans, Kaminga doesn't fit.
09:18He just doesn't fit.
09:20I've never said that.
09:22Because I think he does fit on this team.
09:24I think he gives them a dimension that nobody else can give them, particularly in a game
09:28like last night.
09:29Defensively, I'm not crazy about him.
09:33But when scoring's an issue, he's the one guy who can get you an easy bucket and he
09:39can get you to the foul line.
09:41And if he makes his foul shots, he can be a valuable component as a scorer in that second
09:46unit.
09:47I'm with you.
09:50For the Warriors to be at their best, Kaminga's got to be a part of it.
09:53To what extent?
09:54I don't know.
09:55But he's got it.
09:57He's been missed.
09:58Kaminga belongs on this team.
10:01I don't know if his future's here or not, but Kaminga's scoring can't be just glossed
10:08over.
10:09All day.
10:10And I'm not saying he's a DPOY, but Stoddy, when you got guys that have athleticism that
10:16can create their own shot like a few of the Brooklyn Nets can, you can put them...
10:21Like he could have been on Schroeder trying to just check them or slow them down.
10:24But you teased something you saw that you haven't heard.
10:27What is it?
10:28You see, how'd Steph play last night?
10:34What?
10:358 of 16 from 3?
10:3828 points?
10:39How many total shots?
10:4217.
10:4316 of 17 shots.
10:45You're from 3-point range.
10:46Yeah, I got you.
10:49I need you to more than just get me.
10:51I need you to say, I don't know about that.
10:55I'm going to let you do that, because that didn't jump out at me.
11:01Steph Curry, if he's going to take 16 3-pointers and 17 total shots, that's not...
11:10Forget Curry.
11:11That's not the best thing for the Golden State Warriors.
11:14Tell us why.
11:15Because that means he's just, that means he's not getting into the lane for any floaters.
11:21He's not getting any easy baskets.
11:24They were picking him up 94 feet.
11:26You got to give them credit.
11:27Okay, so then...
11:28I'm not saying that's what...
11:29Well, then you're saying that Steph Curry can be taken out of a game.
11:32No, he wasn't taken out of the game.
11:34That's why they almost scored 40 in the second quarter.
11:36Let me tell you something.
11:37If he's getting picked up full court, one-on-one, it should make it easier for him to get into
11:42the lane.
11:43Facts.
11:45He wasn't driving last night.
11:46It meant that he's running around the perimeter all game, which is fine, but Steph Curry is
11:54at his best when the three is part of his game, when the mid-range part of his game,
12:00when the floater game's part of his game, when the draw and kick is part of his game,
12:05and I mean, like...
12:12You know what he was last night?
12:13He's a three-point specialist.
12:14That's what he was.
12:15He took 16 threes out of 17 shots.
12:16Well, I looked at it like if you didn't have him, Stoddy Brooklyn would have won that game
12:17by 14 points.
12:18You're probably right.
12:19And the shots he were hitting, I was like, oh my God, he's a godsend, but...
12:20You know what?
12:21I'm not saying that's how you draw it up.
12:22This is what Glenn Robinson, my former college coach, Evans, said to me once.
12:23I went 10-for-25 against Moravian.
12:24Big dog?
12:25No.
12:26That was my guy.
12:2710-for-25 from the field.
12:28Big dog.
12:29Big dog.
12:30Big dog.
12:31Big dog.
12:32Big dog.
12:33Big dog.
12:34Big dog.
12:35Big dog.
12:36Big dog.
12:37I went 10-for-25 against Moravian.
12:40Big dog?
12:41No.
12:42That was my guy.
12:4310-for-25 from the field.
12:44We lost in overtime.
12:45Right.
12:46And he said to me, do you think we can win when you take 25 shots?
12:51Oh, no.
12:52And I said, yeah, I think we can.
12:56And he said, I don't think we can.
12:59And I said, well, we lost in overtime and a guy tied it at the buzzer, so we were right
13:03there.
13:04And he said, but that's not our best way to play.
13:07And I said, you know what, coach?
13:09I'll meet you halfway there.
13:12You don't want Steph Curry taking 16 of his 17 shots from beyond the 3-point line.
13:17OK, I love that.
13:18Why do you think it happened?
13:20I believe it was Brooklyn's Dee, and it wasn't just Schroeder.
13:23They were scrappies.
13:25They look younger and fresher.
13:27And a big part of that is there was no Kaminga.
13:30So moving forward, I'm afraid of teams that have...
13:33Well, then we got a problem.
13:34But I mean, if the Brooklyn Nets can devise a game plan where they get Steph Curry to
13:42take 16 threes and nothing inside but one shot, I would take that every day of the week
13:49because he'll...
13:50Don't get me wrong.
13:51You still can kill you from three.
13:53But we all know when Steph's got a little bit of everything going, then that's when
13:57he's at his best and the Warriors are at their best.
14:00But they made him a one-dimensional guy yesterday.
14:03But just look at the starting lineup.
14:04And I'm a Waters fan.
14:06But when you got Jackson three-fifths of the starting lineup, Draymond, and he was missing
14:11some bunnies in free throws.
14:13But Draymond, Waters, and Trace Jackson-Davis, that's not a lot of firepower to start off
14:19the game.
14:20But yet, it hadn't slowed them down.
14:21And they scored 40, almost 40 points in the second quarter.
14:25But at the end of the day, Steiner, you got to...
14:27Like Curry needed some help, and I don't know Pods.
14:29Like how...
14:30Pods didn't lose in the game.
14:32How does he play six more minutes than Moses Moody, who had 15 in the first 24 minutes?
14:39That's what I...
14:40I gotta be honest with you.
14:41Maybe that's why Curry...
14:42They were in his...
14:43I figured out what goes on here.
14:44You'll ask me a question about Pods, and I'll answer it like I think Steph or Steve Kerr
14:49would answer it.
14:50Love it.
14:51But people then think, well, I'm a Pods stan, or whatever.
14:56Because Pods is more well-rounded.
14:58Like Pods had six assists last night in 22 minutes.
15:03How many turnovers?
15:04Evan, I swear that was coming out of my mouth.
15:08No, seriously, look how many turnovers he had.
15:11Pudzemski?
15:12Yeah.
15:13Zero.
15:14That's what I'm saying.
15:15Yeah.
15:16So that's a feather in his cap.
15:17Yes, but I'm not saying Pods should play more...
15:22I'm not saying Pods is great right now.
15:24He's not great right now.
15:26That's obvious.
15:27What I'm saying is, you can't have Steph Curry playing the whole game outside the three-point
15:35line.
15:36And you know what?
15:38It's harder to drive the older you get.
15:42It's just harder.
15:43It's more work.
15:44It's just...
15:45Especially if the defense is really collapsing like it was.
