00:00See, you've given up on them already.
00:07Oh, I have not.
00:08See, that's when you get me right in the old man.
00:09We're going to use Denver tonight.
00:10Oh, no.
00:11No, I don't like what's going on right now.
00:12It's not a haunted house.
00:13Nobody's giving up.
00:14It's a basketball game.
00:15Well, give me your starting five with no Draymond tonight, then.
00:21I've got mine written down.
00:24Okay.
00:25Well, let's hear it so that I can disagree with it.
00:28Over the weekend, the holiday weekend, Steve Kerr said after the loss to Phoenix they weren't
00:33playing with force.
00:34And if you saw that game, Looney started the second half, and he started the second half
00:38because he's a goon, he's got girth, and he's strong, and he was setting picks to get Curry
00:42off.
00:43I think you might need to revisit that to get Curry off early, Stoddy, and not wait
00:48for the second half.
00:49But with that said, if you're talking about force, I take that.
00:53The guru computer is your best.
00:56And I'm lobbying, and we can't see it tonight, for Jonathan Kaminga to get back in the starting
01:01lineup with Wiggins.
01:02He had a great shot at it the other night.
01:05He's having a bad year.
01:08You know what?
01:09I'm going to defend him like Gladiator 2.
01:12I wouldn't say bad.
01:13I'm not going to say bad.
01:14He's not having a great year at all.
01:15Well, Pods is not having a great year.
01:18GP2's shooting a ball in the corner, and now I feel like he's passing up those shots.
01:22Let him fly.
01:24But damn, Stoddy, four in a row.
01:26I'm not giving up at all, but it's like now this deep rotation.
01:32What did John Madden say about quarterbacks, Stoddy?
01:34When you have three on one thing, you don't have one.
01:37So when you've got 11 or 12, we need to hone that in now and clean that up and get back
01:45maybe to your best eight or nine.
01:48But you're trying to savor Curry, too, while he's dealing with what he's dealing with.
01:52What's he dealing with?
01:53Well, just the knee issue to where his minutes are not, he's not playing his normal 32-33
01:58minutes.
01:59Right, but let's talk a little bit about Steph.
02:03OK, let's do it.
02:04How do you think he's playing this year?
02:06Stoddy?
02:07Ah, man.
02:08I'd give him a B-.
02:13How about that?
02:14God.
02:15What would you give him, seriously?
02:18Because he's still making his shots.
02:21He's still from three, all that.
02:23He's efficient.
02:24I like what I see from there.
02:26It's about, again, can Wiggins play any better?
02:29Let's just put the rat on the table.
02:31I mean, does he have another level?
02:33Because they're both going to need more help scoring.
02:36And that second unit scoring without Melton now is why I just bring his name up, because
02:41it seems like they had something going from the start.
02:44You pass the baton to the starters.
02:46But I'm with Coach and Vallejo, Stoddy.
02:48I can hear him now thinking, like, I need more Jonathan Kaminga.
02:52There can't be games to where it's 15 minutes or less.
02:56That's just me.
02:57And again, he hadn't been setting the world on fire, but he's a talent.
03:02And I'm looking around at what they have.
03:04Spencer now is, I'm not mad at him, but he's getting a crack at it.
03:09Waters, like something, we got to sure some things up.
03:12And maybe they're part of that.
03:15But Stoddy, four in a row, I don't like with the game.
03:17Denver, without you, you're a junkyard dog.
03:20Jonathan Kaminga, last year he averaged 26 minutes a game.
03:27This year he's averaging 23.
03:30So he's actually down 3.5 minutes a game.
03:34And I would hope that would go up, coming into the season.
03:37But go ahead.
03:38He's taking the same amount of shots, 11.6 per game.
03:41So he's taking more shots in fewer minutes this year, and he's shooting 43% from the
03:47field compared to 53% last year.
03:50That's a monster drop-off.
03:53He's shooting 29% from three-point range, 29% which would be a career low.
03:59How many games, Donny?
04:01More than ever, 3.6.
04:03Okay?
04:04You want to talk about his free-throw shooting?
04:08He's down to 61% as a three-point shooter.
04:11Instead of Steph and who else?
04:14His rebounds, let's go per 36.
04:18That's more...
04:19He's rebounding at the exact same rate as he always has.
04:24He's assisting at the exact same rate he always has.
04:28And he is blocking the same amount of shots, which is few.
04:33Could I find out, because I feel like I'm watching a great year at all.
04:38What if we said how much of those minutes are with Steph and Dre?
04:42That's why I wanted him to start.
04:44I think you get the best version of him when he's out there with those two, and a lot of
04:48times he's not.
04:50I don't want Jonathan Kuminga...
04:54That's the thing.
04:55If he's going to play with Steph and Draymond, then he's probably not going to get as many
05:01shots as he would without playing with Steph and Draymond.
05:07Because the concern that that's all we're focused on, he's got to find out other ways
05:13to be impactful other than scoring.
05:16Okay, this is his fifth year?
05:20Or fourth year?
05:21I think it's his fifth year now, isn't it?
05:24JK.
05:25Fourth year, my bad.
05:26Fourth year for Jonathan Kuminga.
05:27So, let's go to Matt in Oakland and see where he wants to get us started.
05:31What's going on, Matt?
05:32How you doing?
05:33Matty.
05:34Hey, fellas.
05:35Glad you're talking about the Warriors.
05:36They did something smart because they got off to a good start, and they're going to
05:43need it badly.
05:45Yeah.
05:46So, I have them coming out of this extremely brutal December at a best 17-14, maybe 16-15.
05:56If they win four of these games, or five, that would be great.
06:03So I'm not that worried about it.
06:06The Kuminga thing, though, I mean, they have to trade somebody.
06:09You cannot put a guy who's shooting 29% from three out with Curry.
06:14His gravity is useless if there isn't somebody to pass it to.
06:18So I asked yesterday what you thought about this one.
06:21If you take Melton and GP2's salary, you can get Vukovic straight up.
06:27They might want a second-round pick or two.
06:30Fine.
06:31What do you think about that?
06:33And then I also think that they desperately need somebody to replace Melton.
06:37I think that's going to be Kuminga.
06:38And it's not his fault.
06:39He's a good kid.
06:40He's just not far enough along.
06:44And you know, by the time he's great, Curry's going to be out of the league.
06:48So I was wondering what you thought of that trade.
06:49Let me ask you this before you go.
06:51Would you be opposed, and I brought this up to Evan and Stani before the show, with the
06:55DiVincenzo reunion?
06:57I know you mentioned big, and I would take Vukovic in a second, but what about Dante?
07:02I don't think that's that bad, and you probably wouldn't have to give up Kuminga to get him.
07:09That's a thought.
07:11I trust Dunleavy.
07:14But is Dante really that spot shooter that they need?
07:18Would they start him?
07:19I mean, he's certainly a very good defender.
07:21I mean, that would be maybe like a plan B for that position.
07:26If that's all they could get, I could do it.
07:28I think if you put Vukovic and DiVincenzo into that rotation, and say you lose Moody
07:34and GP too, and obviously Melton, and I don't know, somebody else, not Kuminga or Wiggins.
07:42I don't want to lose Kuminga for DiVincenzo, Stani, but Kuminga would be the big fish if
07:47you got something big out there if you could.
07:52So the Bulls are 9-13, and I'm trying to think, how many years does Vukovic have?
08:00Because GP too and Melton are both coming off the books.
08:04So unless they want to dump Salary, they're not really getting two meaningful players
08:12for one of their big boys, if you will.
08:16Let's see.
08:18One more year.
08:19Okay.
08:20Yeah, I mean, Vukovic.
08:22He's 34 years old.
08:23Yeah.
08:24Are you out on Vukovic?
08:26I like him, yes.
08:28You?
08:29Break the tie.
08:31Well, then it's a no.
08:33And that's being real.
08:35No, I just, I don't, I like him, I don't love him, I don't know that he'll make a huge difference.
08:42But Stani, he would give you somebody, he could step out and hit the three and give
08:46you some postgame on a good night.
08:48Like, they don't have that on their roster right now, and I love me some TDAD, but he's
08:52not that.
08:53And maybe, I just know they need some more firepower.
08:58Vukovic shoots.
09:01He's played very well this year.
09:03He has.
09:04Shot 29% from three last year.
09:07Yikes.
09:08This year he's up to 47.
09:09Oh, we'll see.
09:10He's at his buddy, he's going through his buddy hill phase.
09:13Oh, man.
09:14Yeah, I don't, he's averaging 20 a game.
09:17Doesn't really have the ha-ha, so I don't know, but he's a big man.
09:21He does a little bit, and he's got some girth.
09:23Buddy Hill, real quick, Stani, what have you, I feel, he's not playing bad, but yeah, that,
09:28he was shooting 62%, now it's 47, but if you make a list of, who's had the best season
09:34of any Warrior?
09:37I mean, to me, Hill's gonna be in the top three.
09:39And Wiggins would be in the top three.
09:40I'll give you Wiggins.
09:41But then who would be the third?
09:42I think that's the point.
09:43Yeah, Draymond's been, hold on.
09:44All right.
09:45Maybe Draymond.
09:46All right.
09:47I mean, look, you used to, you used to do this all the time, when you say, look, Curry,
09:54Curry, 29, you know what he's averaging this year?
09:5628.
09:57Who?
09:58Oh, the, yeah, 23.
09:59I thought you were talking about minutes.
10:0122.
10:0222 and a half.
10:03Yeah, that's low.
10:04Steph Curry, 22 and a half.
10:06I mean, that is a significant dip.
10:10No, that's a dip.
10:11Yeah.
10:12I mean, let me ask Warrior fans if they detected this.
10:15I wonder what he would say to that.
10:16It's early.
10:17Look, I watched the game on, who's their last game?
10:20Saturday.
10:21Phoenix.
10:22Phoenix.
10:23Yeah.
10:24He didn't score in the first half.
10:25I saw it.
10:26He didn't score.
10:27I saw it.
10:28Then he comes out and has a great third quarter.
10:29When Looney started and made some of the shots easier, but are you saying Steph never needed
10:33that before?
10:34I mean, if Steph Curry.
10:36Because Looney was giving him some space.
10:39If he's gonna go long stretches where he doesn't score, they're in big trouble.
10:43Yeah.
10:44And, you know, what happens when a guy gets older is, you know, if he's playing 34 minutes
10:48a game, it's hard to play 34 great minutes a game.
10:51Slater asked him about the knee issues.
10:53Yeah, with the knees.
10:55And he kind of said, Stouty, he's in a good place now, but it's, and I hated to hear this,
11:00but you, like it's going to linger pretty much for this season.
11:04Let's listen to Steph Curry.
11:06What about what's going on with the knee, the tendonitis, et cetera, et cetera.
11:11It has a potential to be like a nagging type thing if you don't take care of it.
11:14Thankfully, it's been great trying to get me in a protocol to kind of stick with my
11:20day to day and knowing that's something I can get ahead of and not, you know, chase
11:25throughout the year, which is the plan.
11:27So I'm not worried about it, not concerned about it at all.
11:30It's just the deeper you get into your career, the more things pop up and you just got to,
11:35you know, figure it out.
11:37Yeah, he's not running from it.
11:39And he sees a lot of miles on the trip, right?
11:42So, I mean, but Stouty, that 23, I saw that the other day, 22, that shocked me.
11:47And again, they got a great record and he missed a couple of games.
11:51But man, it's just imperative that they somehow, and I thought they had it.
11:56And that's why I'm so fixated on Melton because now every, it's like musical chairs,
12:01but it's musical chairs in the wrong way, in a sense.
12:05You're getting a pulse and more from Wiggins.
12:08But now Curry, I don't know.
12:10Why would you say he's averaging and that number's that low?
12:13Because he's more guardable now than he's ever been.
12:17He's playing a few less minutes than he's played in the past.
12:22And it's harder for him to get the shots.
12:28Duh, but let me just, I guarantee you his shot attempts are way down.
12:33They're probably more down than they should be.
12:36Remember, what was the game last week where all the shots were threes, but one, I believe.
12:41Like, that was like, ah.
12:43Let's go to Telmo in the city and then I'll get some numbers for Steph Curry.
12:47What's up, Telmo? How you doing?
12:51What's up, fellas?
12:54So, just to kind of address Guru's comments about Kamita.
13:01One thing Guru does is, if you bring up Kamita not playing well,
13:05Guru goes, oh, well, Pods isn't playing well and GP2 isn't playing.
13:10Well, none of those guys want $40 million a year.
13:12None of those guys think they're a max guy.
13:15So it's a different situation.
13:16We're not comparing apples to apples there.
13:20And the other thing is, Guru, you're talking about wanting him more starting minutes,
13:24more minutes with the starters.
13:26First of all, like I think Steini mentioned,
13:28that's not going to help Steph because if he's not shooting well,
13:31they're just going to double team him and tempt Kamita to take shots.
13:35But if you're looking at his numbers,
13:37and those are his numbers against the other team's bench players,
13:41how do you want him to get more minutes against the other team's starters?
13:45He's going to be cooked chicken on defense.
13:48He's going to have tougher defenders on him when he's playing offense.
13:53So I just don't think he's playing well.
13:57I know everybody wants him to be that guy and that potential and this thing.
14:00I just really don't think he is.
14:03And maybe he'll be somewhere else.
14:06But I just really don't see it.
14:08And for his production and for the money that he wants,
14:12I think the Warriors need to get off of him.
14:14They need to get something in return
14:16before it just kind of ends up a big nothing burger for the Warriors.
14:21Temo, before you go, seriously, man, I'll give you the win on that
14:26because it looks like the Warriors in a contract year or a big year for Kaminga,
14:30not that they robbed him of everything,
14:32but when you look at where he is and how he's used,
14:35and he's not even the sixth man on the bench,
14:37I would say the ship is going in the wrong direction for him to be around here.
14:42I hope I'm wrong.
14:44But when I look at what Stiney just reiterated in regard to the minutes,
14:47and now he's not a starter even when there's openings,
14:50I'm getting worried about his tenure. That's all.
14:54You're saying the Warriors are robbing him.
14:57It's not robbing him.
14:59If he's coming out and putting up performances that are undeniable,
15:03then they have to play him.
15:05He's not doing that.
15:07No, I said they're not robbing him, so I agree on that.
15:10Yeah, they're not robbing him.
15:12It's there for him to take it, and he's not.
15:14Thanks, Temo.
15:16I'm just saying, Stiney, this man.
15:19Imagine this production had you broke him off some Benjamins like Barnes or Wagner,
15:26who's playing his ass off.
15:28Just imagine what we'd be thinking about right now.
15:31And good God, Moses Moody, Stiney, I don't know what to do.
15:34I feel like I'm him when he's running up and back,
15:37but I will say he's got the conscience of a cat burglar.
15:41He's shooting 39% from three, but he knows I'll probably be out of here
15:45even if I'm playing well in regard to the game.
15:47But he's still letting them fly, and he's hitting them
15:49when he does shoot them from deep.
15:51Of all the guys, Moody's going to be the hardest to trade
15:53because he just signed a contract extension.
15:55So he's making a little bit of money now, and then it jumps up.
15:59I think he's called what they refer to as a poison pill.
16:03So I don't know that Moody's going anywhere.
16:0516 minutes a night for Moody.
16:08And I'm sure if you looked at all the minutes of all the players,
16:13they're all down a little bit from either where the player would like to be
16:16or where they've been in the past.
16:18And that's going to be a function of trying to play as many guys
16:21as they're trying to play.
16:23Real quick, so who are the warriors in 2024?
16:25The team that got off to this hot start?
16:27Or, I'm just asking you, I know it takes a lot for you to overreact,
16:31or how concerned are you about this four-game losing streak?
16:34The fact that in two, they squandered 18 and 17-point leads.
16:37I know it's the NBA, but Stiney, now I'm starting to look at the game
16:42even without the score, like, oh, they need a little more of this.
16:45And maybe it's not in the building right now.
16:47I mean, they're 12-7.
16:49That extrapolates to 48-50 wins.
16:55They've lost four in a row.
16:57They've got some shortcomings.
16:59And the schedule's a bear.
17:01Yeah, the schedule's a schedule.
17:03It's the same for everybody, so it'll eventually get evened out.
17:10But, yeah, they haven't played well the last few games.
17:14And it looks like they're missing something, but I don't know what it is.
17:17Some days, it feels like the way they played defense against the Suns
17:21in the third quarter was really good.
17:23But, you know, it's hard to sustain that.
17:25Because they sure didn't do that in the first half when Phoenix couldn't miss.
17:29Stiney, there's one possession, the Suns passed the ball around seven times.
17:33And Ty's Jones hit a three in the corner, and I'm like, ah, man.
17:37Yeah, I mean, I'm starting to feel like the writing's on the wall for Kaminga.
17:43I couldn't be mad at you.
17:45I hope you're wrong.
17:46But I also think that they are in a brutal spot with Kaminga.
17:51And, you know, real quick before you finish, the worst part about this whole thing,
17:56Stiney, is they need him more now than ever to take that leap.
18:01Like, it's their form.
18:03So tired of hearing that.
18:06But it's called the roll of the dice.
18:08They've been waiting for it.
18:10That's all I'm trying to signal to you, man.
18:13They need a functional Jonathan Kaminga, man.
18:17And for whatever reason, it's not happening.
18:20And, you know, we can get back to the way we think of the 49ers.
18:24Well, Deebo Sam is not having a good year.
18:26So whose fault is it?
18:28His or Kyle Shanahan's?
18:31Jonathan Kaminga has...
18:35How much has he improved in four years?
18:38How much has Jonathan Kaminga improved?
18:41What has he...
18:43He came in and was a player.
18:46And now it's four years later.
18:48What does he do significantly better?
18:51And I'll give you mid-range.
18:53I love his mid-range game.
18:55I think he's automatic from 15, 16 feet.
18:59Well, if I say come downhill, he's done that from day one, right?
19:02I think so.
19:04I don't think he can change direction in a hurry.
19:07I don't know.
19:09But it's there for him.
19:11To Telmo's point, before anything pops off.
19:13And it's not.
19:15He's still a warrior.
19:17I'm rooting for the kid.
19:19But, damn it, Stony, it's there for him to take it.
19:21To seize it.
19:23And it's about opportunity 15 that he's had.
19:25And here's the other thing.
19:28If you're another team in the league,
19:30you're not the Golden State Warriors.
19:33Answer me this question.
19:35Why would you trade for Kaminga?
19:37Why would a team trade for Jonathan Kaminga
19:42knowing that the Warriors didn't sign him to an extension
19:46because they didn't want to give him big-time money?
19:49Here I go. I'm taking a crack at it.
19:51What if another team said,
19:53You know what?
19:55He was playing the NBA version of Princeton-style offense.
19:57He had to think too much.
19:59He couldn't just be natural.
20:01And that's what he brings to the table.
20:03His uncanny gifts.
20:05If he were in a dumbed-down system,
20:07maybe a team that didn't have aspirations to go far
20:11and just let him grow while playing.
20:14Stony, who's to say he couldn't average 23 to 25 points?
20:18On what kind of team?
20:20A team that's not a rebuilding team.
20:23And that's why I think he's caught between a rock and a hard place.
20:26Who's a bad team right now?
20:30The Wizards.
20:32I'll tell you right now,
20:34the Washington Wizards do not want to trade for Jonathan Kaminga
20:38knowing that they're going to have to pay him $40-plus million a year.
20:42It's like, okay.
20:44I don't know that the money works or it doesn't work.
20:48Let's go get Kuzma and Valanciunas.
20:53For Kaminga and somebody else.
20:55Okay.
20:56I mean, if you're the Wizards, you're like,
20:58we're not any better with that trade.
21:00We're not better with Kaminga and somebody else.
21:04I'm not ripping Kaminga.
21:08So what's got to happen for him to change it around?
21:11I think it's over.
21:13Wow.
21:14I mean, I think they're going to have to move him.
21:16I think they're going to have to move him.
21:18And I think they're open to it.
21:22I think that may be the move.
21:24I mean, right now, it seems like the right move was not breaking him off this summer.
21:29Or they tried to break him off and he wanted more.
21:32A lot of people would say, well, you know, hey.
21:36When you bring a young player back and you don't give him guaranteed money,
21:40maybe this is what happens.
21:42It's a tough situation for Kaminga.
21:44Especially when he sees all the other guys who have gotten paid.
21:48888-957-9570 is the number.
21:52Gu asked a real good question.
21:54Who are the Warriors?
21:56Are they the team that started 10-2?
21:58Or are they the team that is, what, 2-5 since then?
22:04And if this team's one or the other or somewhere in the middle,
22:12I want to know about it.
22:13888-957-9570.
22:18You know, I was saying this.
22:21We're 25% through the season.
22:23And that's why Curry at 23 points a night is starting to,
22:27I don't have the answer, Stiney, but it's starting to get concerning.
22:31But if it's just about, it's more difficult.
22:33And you got dudes picking them up 94 feet.
22:36That Brooklyn game, and that shooter's always been like a gnat.
22:39But they were making it difficult, man.
22:41And you see Tyus Jones with Phoenix.
22:44He's now Gary Payton's second.
22:47They got foot speed.
22:48And that's why I feel like, and I'm not looking at Curry at all, Stiney.
22:52He don't need the bailout.
22:54But if you had other threats around him, that makes what he does easier.
22:59And they can't blitz him.
23:00They're blitzing him now like he's Vinny Testaverde.
23:03And he's no longer capable of doing the things that he did a few years ago.
23:09Like, he needs more help?
23:12Well, you know what?
23:13He didn't need as much help in the past.
23:17He needs more help.
23:18He's 36.
23:19I get it.
23:20Wow, man.
23:21But, you know, it's like, this is kind of the other thing.
23:24And we talk about it all the time.
23:27It's like, Trent Williams.
23:29He's the best offensive lineman in the game.
23:32He has been.
23:33Well, no, he hasn't the last two years.
