00:00This year's theme, Beyond Mobility, reflects a profound shift in the global automotive
00:09landscape.
00:10It signals a transition from traditional modes of transportation to innovative, sustainable
00:18and integrated mobility solutions.
00:21This is not just a theme for CLIMS, it is a call to action for all of us as we chart
00:29a course toward a greener, more efficient and more inclusive future.
00:35Malaysia is fully committed to building a sustainable future for the generations to
00:39come.
00:40Transportation, being one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, is a critical
00:48area in our National Energy Transition Plan.
00:51Through this, we aim to green the mobility sector of Malaysia and produce the carbon
00:57footprint of both commercial and private transportation.
01:02Transportation is not only vital for achieving our sustainability goals, but also remains
01:07a significant contributor to the Malaysian economy.
01:11We have made significant strides in promoting electric vehicles or EVs, developing charging
01:17infrastructure and incentivising sustainable practices across the automotive sector.
01:24CLIMS 2024 serves as an excellent platform to witness first-hand the incredible advancement
01:31in automotive technology.
01:34This vision is bolstered by Malaysia's regional collaboration through the ASEAN Power Grid
01:39Initiative, which aligns with our leadership as ASEAN Chair in 2025, to secure a sustainable
01:46energy future.
01:47The growth of this industry presents immense opportunities for local manufacturers and
01:52SMEs to integrate into global supply chains.
01:57For instance, Malaysia's National Investment Aspiration, or NIA, aims to position the country
02:04as a global supply chain hub by attracting high-quality investments and enhancing the
02:10capabilities of local industries.
02:13This strategic initiative focuses on integrating local manufacturers and SMEs into global supply
02:21chains, thereby boosting economic growth and competitiveness.
02:27As we look to the future, I am confident that Malaysia has the potential to become a regional
02:33hub for electric vehicle production and innovation.
02:37Events like CLIMS are crucial in accelerating this vision, bringing together stakeholders
02:43from around the world to collaborate and create solutions that benefit everyone.
02:50Ladies and gentlemen, let us remember that the responsibility for creating a sustainable
02:55future lies with all of us.
02:59As we champion bold investments and partnerships, the mobility industry has become a cornerstone
03:05of Malaysia's net-zero ambitions.
03:09Consumer adoption of EVs and hybrid vehicles will drive the nation closer to its sustainability
03:15goals, with transformative initiatives like CLIMS playing a pivotal role in sparking widespread
03:22interest, collaboration and action.
03:26I urge all stakeholders, industry leaders, policy makers, innovators and consumers to
03:33work hand-in-hand in driving this change.
03:37Together, we can move Malaysia beyond mobility.
03:41The automotive industry is one of the key engines of growth for our country's economy.
03:47The industry's contribution is immense, with significant linkages in manufacturing to the
03:53service sector.
03:55The industry contributes 4% of the national GDP annually, and currently it is estimated
04:00that over 700,000 are employed in the automotive industry.
04:06Over the years, the automotive industry has expanded tremendously in tandem with the country's
04:11economic growth and the increasing standard of living.
04:16The total industry volume, or TIV, for the automotive industry has grown leaps and bounds
04:22over the last three decades, from 200,000 units in 1994 to an all-time high of 799,731
04:33units in 2023.
04:35And we are expecting this year to achieve another record of above 800,000 units.
04:41CLIMS 2024 is more than just a showcase of products and services.
04:46It brings together global and local players to showcase their product and ideas that promise
04:52to transform how we move, live and work.
04:56The event goes far beyond motor vehicles.
04:59It showcases a diverse range of cutting-edge automotive technology and solutions, including
05:06two- and three-wheelers, last-mile mobility solutions and future-focused innovation that
05:12are paving the way for smarter and more sustainable transportation.
05:17The exhibition also provides a platform for local manufacturers and suppliers to connect
05:22with global industry leaders, facilitating information sharing and business collaborations.
05:29Such interactions are essential for Malaysia's ambition to become a regional hub for automotive
05:37manufacturing and innovation.
