00:00:00Welcome to the ITM podcast.
00:00:19This is episode 255 of the ITM podcast, the official Boston Red Sox podcast of the CLNS
00:00:25Media Network, brought to you by PrizePix, the exclusive daily fantasy partner of the
00:00:30CLNS Media Network.
00:00:31And by GameTime Tickets, the best place to buy tickets to online sports, concerts, all
00:00:34your favorite events in Boston.
00:00:36Red Sox, dude, will not, they don't know what they're doing.
00:00:40They won't figure out what to tell us.
00:00:43They're all over the joint.
00:00:44My name is Joey Capona.
00:00:45That's Scott Neville.
00:00:46Scott, how you doing?
00:00:47I'm good.
00:00:48I'm just kind of, I'm just kind of chilling this off season.
00:00:50I think everyone's freaking out.
00:00:52I gotta say, I've been more calm than I've ever been.
00:00:57I don't know why about it.
00:00:59Have you just instituted some kind of Zen mentality or is this related to the Red Sox?
00:01:04No, I just, I, no, I think it, I don't know if I'm just busier than I've ever been in
00:01:08my life, which is definitely true, but it's just like, I get in a lot of texts, like,
00:01:13I can't wait for Soto to sign and like, I can't resume until Soto signs and I'm kind
00:01:19of just like, let me know what he does, you know?
00:01:23That's fucking crazy.
00:01:24Call me.
00:01:25That's absolutely crazy.
00:01:26I can't.
00:01:27Like, don't get me wrong.
00:01:28I'm reading, like, I'm seeing the report that just came out and like, whatever.
00:01:31It's not that I'm not, I don't know what's going on.
00:01:33It's more just like, I just feel like this is going to come down to like, I'm putting
00:01:39less stock into every big free agent had a good meeting with every single marquee team.
00:01:46Right?
00:01:47If you, if you read every day, you're going to say, oh wow, apparently Max Free is interested
00:01:52in the Red Sox.
00:01:53Oh yeah.
00:01:54A really good meeting with the Yankees though too.
00:01:56And that's weird.
00:01:57All the reports about the Yankees, great meetings are coming from Heyman or Sherman or somebody
00:02:01that works for the New York Post.
00:02:04And the Red Sox reporters in the globe feel pretty good about Soto's, you know, Red Sox
00:02:08chances.
00:02:09It's just, I don't know.
00:02:10And I'm not saying they're doing anything like, uh, I think they're getting team sources
00:02:16and it's like, you know, yeah, I feel like I feel good about my chances.
00:02:20And then they're getting, giving that to their reporters and it's like, great.
00:02:24Everybody had a great meeting with everyone who's paying more.
00:02:27And I'll tell you where they're going to sign.
00:02:30Yeah.
00:02:31It's also that like, if you were to believe every report that comes out, like every single
00:02:37report, if you're like, this is true, you just made a list.
00:02:40It would be laughable because everybody contradicts everybody else.
00:02:45So you know, you'll have a good meeting, but then also somebody will say that, uh, one
00:02:50team is falling behind.
00:02:52Another guy will say that that team's actually the favorite.
00:02:55And uh, another guy will say that Soto's eliminating teams and another guy will say all five teams
00:03:01are still in contention.
00:03:02They got a good shot.
00:03:03So trying to keep up with it, exhausting.
00:03:07And I think that you're taking the right approach by being like, you know what, dude, whatever
00:03:11happens, let me know.
00:03:12I'll be here when there's actual breaking news.
00:03:14I'll be there for it because I have been trying to follow every single thing.
00:03:21Every single person says, and that's exhausting and incorrect.
00:03:25It's not the way to go about it, but it's almost like I forgot how to act when my team
00:03:31is in pursuit of the top dog.
00:03:34It's been so long that I don't know how to act other than refresh Twitter every 90 seconds
00:03:41to see if somebody, you know, um, um, with a good resume or not has said something and
00:03:51I'm just choosing to believe it until I go through my mental Rolodex of, Oh wait, I've
00:03:57read five reports that say something different.
00:04:00So I think this one's probably wrong and playing this game of, you know, okay, I'm going to
00:04:05put this one in the true column for now.
00:04:07And this one in the plausible column playing myth busters with the fucking reports that
00:04:13are coming out.
00:04:14It's exhausting.
00:04:15There is real news.
00:04:16Yeah.
00:04:17Yeah.
00:04:18There is.
00:04:19What were you going to say?
00:04:21I can, we can push this off.
00:04:22We can push this off for a while.
00:04:23What were you going to say?
00:04:24Well, no, I'm, first of all, there is news that it is true and that's how I feel about
00:04:28that.
00:04:29But yeah, I don't know.
00:04:32I just feel like my thing is certainly if there is a report about, there have been reports
00:04:39that New York, you know, Soto is actually, his preference is one, two, three or whatever.
00:04:44Like if the money was the same, you know, that kind of thing.
00:04:46Like if you want to believe that short, but it, what it comes down to is like Soto hasn't
00:04:51chosen yet.
00:04:53So for people to be like, here are the odds, here's where he's like, he doesn't know, like
00:04:58he doesn't know the answer yet.
00:05:00If he had the answer, we'd know about, well, except for the one guy that figured it out
00:05:03on Thanksgiving.
00:05:04But the rest of us, the rest of us don't know.
00:05:08The other thing is like, he hasn't made a decision because like final offers are not
00:05:14there yet.
00:05:15Right.
00:05:16If it wasn't like everyone has said this is their final offer and they are on the table,
00:05:21then we could be like, Ooh, has one made his decision?
00:05:25You can't make a decision until the offers are there.
00:05:29If we were at the point where there was a report by one of the big dogs that was like,
00:05:33Hey, all of the final offers are in, he's now going to like think, and then people start
00:05:40to say his preference is New York, you know, Yankees over Mets or Yankees over Red Sox
00:05:46or what have you, then, then there's like, okay, that's interesting.
00:05:51But I mean, there was the big report that the Red Sox are meeting with or requested
00:05:59a meeting to get his, a number that would get the deal done.
00:06:03And so if we're still at that point, we're not even at final off, we're not at best in
00:06:07the final, the Red Sox don't even have an offer out there that they feel like still
00:06:13needs that is still pending.
00:06:15Like they're still like, we're, we're in either making or upping an offer.
00:06:21There's no chance he signs right now, for example, because they're still trying to get
00:06:25a meeting to get a bigger number to him.
00:06:29I, uh, you're obviously, uh, referencing for those who haven't seen the Alex Spear article
00:06:36that came out, uh, Wednesday, no, sorry, Thursday, uh, there's so many, he did have one Wednesday
00:06:47as well.
00:06:48I was just going to try to pull it up to get the exact quote.
00:06:51Uh, it is, uh, again, this Alex Spear said, quote, the Red Sox have expressed interest
00:06:58in an additional meeting in which Boris and Soto would identify a price that would get
00:07:05a deal done.
00:07:06It's unknown if such a meeting has been or will be granted.
00:07:11End quote.
00:07:14I like that.
00:07:15I love it.
00:07:17Because it's not, they're requesting a meeting, end of sentence.
00:07:21It's they're requesting a meeting to get a number done or to get a number that says like,
00:07:25what, what gets this done?
00:07:27We know if we, if we trust what's out there, right.
00:07:29Which like this is sifting through my own personal sifter of what I believe in, what
00:07:37I don't, I think it's fair to believe they made an initial offer.
00:07:44They upped their offer.
00:07:47Believe that one.
00:07:48And they are over the $600 million threshold.
00:07:52So now they're talking about a third number and not one to just compete in whatever that
00:07:58they're like, all right, let's sit down.
00:08:00What gets this done?
00:08:02Yeah.
00:08:03Let's not leave this table.
00:08:04Give me a number that you wouldn't have to leave the table without a contract sign.
00:08:08And I like that because that's like in real estate, that's like being like, we'll pay
00:08:12full ask.
00:08:13You just got to tell me what's full ask.
00:08:14I don't want to negotiate.
00:08:17Give me a number.
00:08:18Done.
00:08:19I'm not saying they're going to be like, whatever he says, it's just okay.
00:08:22But if it's eight 50, yeah, like, I don't know that they do that, but that that's a
00:08:28move.
00:08:29I love where they're not trying to low ball and they're not trying to work, you know,
00:08:32okay, well, why don't you give me a number and I'll, I'll come back to you and maybe
00:08:36that is the plan, but it just was written as if it was almost like, all right, what's
00:08:42your price?
00:08:43Like, let's stop screwing around.
00:08:45Just say, say a number.
00:08:47And if we're cool with it, we have a deal.
00:08:50And I don't think Spear writes something so black and white objective like that, unless
00:08:57he's damn sure.
00:08:59And also the only thing they're like, oops, about like where people are like trying to
00:09:03like temper expectations is just that they don't know if Soto would accept the meeting.
00:09:08I don't, I can't imagine a team being like, Hey, we'll let you set your price.
00:09:15What is it?
00:09:16And he's going to be like, ah, Boston, I don't know, like, you know, it's crazy is until
00:09:23you said that I was nervous about him accepting it or not for no reason.
00:09:30I just saw that it's on the table as a, a potential, you know, gray area and was like,
00:09:36I thought that was a weird trade.
00:09:38That was a weird part that everyone was like, okay, guys, calm down.
00:09:41Like there's still time on the clock.
00:09:43Like I don't know, I feel like that's a weird one where I'm not worried about that aspect
00:09:49of it.
00:09:50If they had said something like, we're not sure if Henry would like how interested he
00:09:55will be in that price or something that would be, but like the, the Soto, the part about
00:10:01Soto being like, well, like hopefully he shows up.
00:10:06I think he'll show up at the winter meetings.
00:10:10They also said in that, or Spear also said in that article that the Red Sox are well
00:10:14aware that Steve Cohen's talking a big game and that he, uh, the rumor going around that
00:10:23Steve Cohen will match any, uh, any offer and add 50 million to it, which fuck you.
00:10:33Right?
00:10:34Like that's so much money.
00:10:35No, I love that.
00:10:37I, that is such a good, like he, cause he really does have money like that.
00:10:43And I don't know if he would make that bad of a, you know, it's one of those like payroll
00:10:47revenue type of conversations where they always talk about how much money ownership has, but
00:10:52they also like, it's, it's, it's a business and it's its own thing.
00:10:56He's probably not pouring personal money into it, but I love the idea of just being like,
00:11:01what are you going to pay him?
00:11:02It doesn't matter.
00:11:03Don't even, I'm just going to do more.
00:11:05Like there's nothing you can do.
00:11:07Well, there is something that we can do.
00:11:11And that's the fact that in that tax bracket, as, as far as lump sum goes, uh, the difference
00:11:19between Boston and New York, when you get to this level of nine figures, um, would have
00:11:25to be a difference of $138 million to equal the same dollar in Boston versus New York.
00:11:33He's talking because of taxes or because of taxes, but how do you come to that number
00:11:41without the number that he's going to sign for?
00:11:46Assuming that he's making 40 to $60 million a year, I think that's like kind of the place
00:11:53where he falls.
00:11:54Cause that was interesting.
00:11:55I just had a text about that.
00:11:59Um, I was trying to figure out the differences in, in, in state income taxes and I, did you
00:12:07hear that?
00:12:08Oh, sure.
00:12:09I think that motorcycle just went through my house.
00:12:11I don't know what just happened.
00:12:13Yeah.
00:12:14Yeah.
00:12:15But anyway, God, that was loud.
00:12:18Uh, I was trying to figure out, I thought it was distracting.
00:12:21Yeah.
00:12:22One, I thought it was like 1.9% difference or something at the top.
00:12:25And I, I guess, I don't know.
00:12:27You keep adding up.
00:12:28Maybe that is, I don't know.
00:12:31Maybe that is that big of a deal again.
00:12:33I hope.
00:12:34I mean, I haven't, not again, I haven't said this yet.
00:12:35I'm going off of one guy on Twitter who said this.
00:12:38Yeah.
00:12:39Okay.
00:12:40Yeah.
00:12:41This fell into my Venn diagram of, I buy it a hundred percent by it.
00:12:44So there is certainly a difference.
00:12:46There is certainly a difference.
00:12:48Okay.
00:12:49Hold on.
00:12:50Mass.
00:12:51Oh, wait, no.
00:12:52Hold on.
00:12:53The thing is these guys have agents and managers and, um, what's the word for somebody who
00:12:59does your money finance, shareholding people, accountants, financial manager, they make
00:13:06it work, but there is a, an undeniable difference between Massachusetts and New York city.
00:13:13I will say that it is an advantage that it's two New York teams at us because usually we're
00:13:22on the high end where that hurts us.
00:13:25But New York is just about other than California.
00:13:29Like there's only a handful of places that beat us in terms of charging their American
00:13:34people more money.
00:13:36And, uh, and in this case, not even an American person, uh, just they're finding ways to go
00:13:42international as well and take everyone's money.
00:13:45So yeah, not great, but we'll take the advantage in this one specific instance.
00:13:51That's why the Patriots lost, uh, Ridley not lost, lost out the bid and Calvin Ridley was
00:13:56cause of taxes.
00:13:57Oh man.
00:13:58Yeah.
00:13:59That would have been sick.
00:14:00Yeah.
00:14:01I would have.
00:14:02I don't like Calvin Ridley.
00:14:03Okay.
00:14:04I do like Juan Soto for right now.
00:14:08You don't like, is it cause he gambled?
00:14:10You don't like gamblers?
00:14:11Yeah.
00:14:13I just can't stand that shit.
00:14:14Yeah.
00:14:15I figured you'd be one of those guys.
00:14:19I can't, I tried to find, I typed in state income tax comparison calculator and I wanted
00:14:23to find something where I could just do Massachusetts, New York, $50 million plus indifference.
00:14:28Couldn't do it.
00:14:29Doesn't exist.
00:14:30A lot of, a lot of areas where you can, you can do your own, but to do a comparison doesn't
00:14:38seem to be super available.
00:14:42You can now win up to 100 times your money on prize picks with as little as four correct

00:16:09I love that name, Taco Tuesday.
00:16:11I love naming things that just don't make sense.
00:16:14I love it.
00:16:15It gets more attention.
00:16:16That's my favorite part.
00:16:17Well, it squeezes the odds.
00:16:18It's like a taco folds and squeezes, you know?
00:16:21They don't explain it that way.
00:16:22They just say, it's Taco Tuesday.
00:16:25Here's a discount.
00:16:26Well, LeBron.
00:16:27Sure.
00:16:28Yeah.
00:16:29Good point.
00:16:30He's sports.
00:16:31So.
00:16:32Yeah.
00:16:33Good.
00:16:34Yeah.
00:16:35That's true.
00:16:36Do you think it's enough Soto talk for today?
00:16:43I'm sure it'll come back at some point because here's the thing.
00:16:46Yeah.
00:16:47Yeah.
00:16:48Yeah.
00:16:49Yeah.
00:16:50Yeah.
00:16:51Yeah.
00:16:52Yeah.
00:16:53Yeah.
00:16:54Yeah.
00:16:55Yeah.
00:16:56Yeah.
00:16:57Yeah.
00:16:58Yeah.
00:16:59Yeah.
00:17:00Yeah.
00:17:01Yeah.
00:17:02Yeah.
00:17:03Yeah.
00:17:04Yeah.
00:17:05Yeah.
00:17:06Yeah.
00:17:07Yeah.
00:17:08Yeah.
00:17:09Yeah.
00:17:10Yeah.
00:17:11Yeah.
00:17:12Yeah.
00:17:13Yeah.
00:17:14Yeah.
00:17:15Yeah.
00:17:16Yeah.
00:17:17Yeah.
00:17:18Yeah.
00:17:19Yeah.
00:17:20Yeah.
00:17:21No, that doesn't.
00:17:22That causes too many.
00:17:23You DHM.
00:17:24Right, right.
00:17:25Power bat.
00:17:26The whole, moving the D H Devers the first and Cassius might be, you know, crochet trade
00:17:30it.
00:17:31They've talked about shuffling everybody already anyway.
00:17:33I don't think it's the craziest things because they've already talked about maybe getting
00:17:37a third basement.
00:17:38They've talked about maybe doing it and maybe doing it.
00:17:40So I don't know.
00:17:42I don't think it's unrealistic to ready power bat and it's also, if the meticulous, fuck
00:17:46It'd be kind of cool to get Pete Alonso
00:17:50Yeah, I mean, okay, but
00:17:53The thing is do you I don't think Tristan Casas gets traded in any world
00:17:57I don't believe because is that the thing about Casas is
00:18:01the people that are saying
00:18:04talking about trading Casas are like
00:18:07Fine sand and Bowdoin being like here's a hypothetical trade that could get Garrett crocheted about Boston, but it's never like
00:18:16They're reportedly shopping Tristan Casas. Like it's literally just like people saying
00:18:21If they want to trade for a good player, they could trade this good player for him
00:18:25And I don't think there's any world where Tristan Casas gets moved
00:18:28I do think there is a world where I don't think
00:18:32It's impossible to have like something like a Willie Adam is signing the dump that shifts Devers to DH
00:18:39Devers the first is not happening and in that scenario, obviously you would have a first baseman
00:18:45But I don't here's what the biggest thing is. I don't think Casas gets moved
00:18:49So that's why it's gonna be a weird fit. I think having
00:18:53three big power hitters and aren't great fielders
00:18:58At first third and DH, I don't know and I also think
00:19:03You know the odds like there's a decent likelihood maybe they do move like
00:19:08Devers to DH and then they get a righty
00:19:10like Willie Thomas or Bregman or something, but
00:19:14That makes way more sense to me than then signing
00:19:17Pete Alonso and plugging the DH hole and all of these scenarios you're trading Yoshida
00:19:22It's kind of hard to think of a scenario where you're not trading Yoshida
00:19:27Even as the team is I mean they dump them one way or the other I think
00:19:32Just from a lefty righty perspective, even if they don't
00:19:36Necessarily acquire anybody that matters. I think they have to trade them just to get a right-hander that doesn't matter just just for balance
00:19:44Yeah
00:19:45yeah, I mean the odds of I think Tristan Casas being on opening day roster and
00:19:53Masataka Yoshida being on opening day roster are perfectly inverted like I think it's 9010
00:19:58I was just gonna say 910. I was just gonna say 9010. Yeah, I think I think they're perfectly inverted
00:20:05I think it's I think that's kind of a given I
00:20:09And it's tough to do this because everybody wants to hold on to
00:20:14your prospects
00:20:15hmm, and I
00:20:18Kind of do too. There's like maybe one in the top five that I'm like
00:20:23Maybe maybe shop them around maybe include them in a deal. Maybe package them for somebody big like crochet
00:20:27but for the most part, I'm I'm a prospect order to and I'm very much a give them another shot guy, I mean
00:20:36I'm coming from the biggest Bobby Dahlbeck fan in the world. I don't think that that's too shocking
00:20:40But with Devers, I'm like leave him at third I want him to feel good about himself
00:20:45I want his mentality to be straight and
00:20:48He according to Alex Cora really cares about his defense being sound
00:20:52I don't think that moving him off of that is all too good for his head
00:20:57I love Tristan Casas. That one's a really easy one. It's got do you think the Casas thing is?
00:21:04because I
00:21:06mean the causes the Devers defense thing is because
00:21:09He was playing third and he didn't want to be a
00:21:13Guy known for hurting his team in any way or and that he didn't want to be, you know
00:21:18Embarrassed out there playing every day like is it like I don't want to be known as a bad thing that I'm doing
00:21:23But do you really think like if he moved to DH and they said that you don't have to worry about third anymore
00:21:28Do you still think he's like I don't think it's like a Yoshida situation where he's like, no. No, I want to be out there
00:21:33I want to be out there like if they just said hey you're here to hit bombs every day
00:21:36And that's what you do and you're you know
00:21:38You're gonna be the next David Ortiz basically, even though everyone's saying so it was gonna be the next day
00:21:42But that would actually make more sense
00:21:44I
00:21:46Don't know. I I agree with what you said
00:21:48I think he cares about being good at defense because he's playing defense every day and he wants to win
00:21:52he wants to help and he's
00:21:54Wants to you know be great at whatever he's doing, but I think if they say hey, let's just not even worry about that anymore
00:22:01I don't think he's gonna be like no I take pride in my defense. I
00:22:05Feel that's different. Okay. I think he takes pride in it and wants to be out there. I could totally be wrong
00:22:11I could tell me I'm guessing completely. I mean don't get this isn't I'm going off of what Cora said that one time. Yeah
00:22:19Because it's the only real peek behind the curtain. We've gotten at Devers defense and he seemed to really emphasize it
00:22:26I'm gonna have to find it but he
00:22:28Really emphasized like, you know, he makes an error
00:22:30He beats himself up for it. Like he cares right about being a good defender, and I think that's not just but that's cuz he
00:22:38hurting the team I think it's also like just wanting to be out there and being involved and I I
00:22:43Don't know if I can really picture just Raphael that we're sitting in a dugout for three hours taking his three at bats and going
00:22:49home I
00:22:50Do think a guy like that does he seems like a candidate to be a you know?
00:22:55kind of checked out and bored with that scenario like not as it not as in like
00:23:00We gotta watch out and like he doesn't care or anything
00:23:03But just I got I mean you put someone with ADHD on a bench for three hours. I
00:23:08Think yeah, it's gonna happen, you know, and does he have ADHD? I don't know
00:23:13I might be the first person to declare it, but I
00:23:15He seems like a clear
00:23:18Doctors do you go in doctor? He declares you have a disease
00:23:22He stands at the front of the room and get that his gavel and says I hereby declare
00:23:27You go, yeah
00:23:32Okay, Freddie Freeman had surgery
00:23:35Okay, that news just came out that's not really shocking. He was very hurt
00:23:40And I'd say not the most I don't know if that is there's a block on the show this show
00:23:46Just mentioning it just saw it wanted to mention it. Okay
00:23:49Anyway, yeah, but that's the where I was going with that is I'm such a give him another shot guy
00:23:54I am so pro Yoshida. It's so stupid and I recognize that it's dumb and I recognize that I'll probably be wrong and that he'll probably
00:24:03Find a home in Milwaukee
00:24:05but
00:24:07Right now I'm like a man that does suck for him that he came here with hype. He came here with hype
00:24:13Yeah, and well got put a DH now
00:24:17It's like well, how do you get rid of his money? And it's like hasn't been bad
00:24:21Maybe you know two notches below expectations, but
00:24:26Bad no and you moved him like he went from being a fielder to DH
00:24:31I think he took it personally and by I think I mean he said he took it personally
00:24:36So, I don't know. I just feel bad for the guy and I wish that he would I don't know
00:24:41He hasn't even really had a full season since his first season in Major League Baseball
00:24:46Where he was like getting acclimated and he's like, you know, he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's
00:24:51Then it was like I now get out of the field your DH not the everyday one either
00:24:57You know, it's interesting I
00:25:01The expectation is
00:25:03Part of it. I don't think he's bad. I don't think he's gonna be bad next season
00:25:08I don't think he's I actually I'll say this and I feel like the this has been the narrative. I don't think he
00:25:16Genuinely underperformed what was expected of him. He was a guy that coming in
00:25:21Had no range was slow
00:25:24oddly slow for what he is build and such and
00:25:28everyone knew that but they knew he had incredible back-to-ball skills and he's been a 285 hitter and
00:25:35The 248 games he's played with the Boston Red Sox
00:25:38I think if you told us the day he signed that through two seasons he was gonna have a
00:25:46285 average with a
00:25:4816 home runs per 162 average. I think you would say maybe I thought I could get that number to 20, but
00:25:57yeah, that's about right and
00:25:59The thing is in a vacuum hundred percent. I would not be saying to trade Yoshida at all, but a
00:26:07Left-handed hitting DH only type
00:26:13With the current situation
00:26:15Around him is is
00:26:17It's kind of impossible to envision
00:26:20Him not becoming the odd man out to balance the lineup and you do need to balance it in some way
00:26:25I but I agree. I think wherever he goes he will have a good season and I do think it will be kind of one
00:26:31of those
00:26:33Like bad trades when you look at who came in and who left or whatever it is, but
00:26:40It's kind of like you're almost like if they sign somebody and
00:26:45Then trade him away. You almost got a look at is like well, yeah, but we really we really traded
00:26:52Yoshida for Willie Adamas and a bag of balls, right?
00:26:57Made a lot of money in the process the Red Sox have like a
00:27:04Legitimate need
00:27:06That they are just
00:27:09Nobody's really talking about
00:27:11that they
00:27:14Unless I'm wrong here. Nope. He he's gone. They need a second catcher
00:27:23Hmm they need a second gap and I could not near the top of your list
00:27:27but right when you start talking about trading guys like Yoshida and
00:27:32I mean basically just Yoshida and also freeing up an outfield spot to you're also gonna need to do that for when Soto comes in
00:27:40That's that's just a need that we haven't really talked about but
00:27:43A hole that needs to be plugged for sure
00:27:46Just something to think about not near the top of the list at all. Just throwing it out there
00:27:50Let's talk about it. Now Red Sox signed
00:27:55Aldous Chapman. Yeah. Yeah. Aldous Chapman is a Boston Red Sox the Cuban missile. Yeah
00:28:05Cuban Cuban missile crisis. Oh
00:28:08Oh
00:28:10That's the title of the episode Cuban missile crisis, yeah, there it is
00:28:18I
00:28:20Can't think of a guy in Major League Baseball that would look weirder in a Red Sox uniform then are all this Chapman
00:28:29There's just nobody that doesn't feel like a Red Sox more than him so
00:28:37That's gonna be interesting that's gonna be an adjustment period I don't know if it ever
00:28:42It goes past being an adjustment period. It might just be a permanent adjustment period
00:28:50It's odd, I don't like it I don't love it. I
00:28:54Know you didn't either
00:28:55What was your initial reaction? Where were you? You're always gonna remember where you were. Where were you? I was in my room nice and
00:29:04Sick what were you?
00:29:07I don't think I'd gotten up yet
00:29:10No, just which is crazy because if you remember he signed like 1030
00:29:15maybe later I
00:29:16Think I was maybe up but I was sometimes I answer my emails and stuff from my bed
00:29:21I was certainly awake when it happened and I you know, I
00:29:25Just got it. Yeah, I think I think I had the same reaction that everyone had we're just kind of like what I read serious
00:29:32Because I didn't see it right away I wait I got my MLB notification I didn't see it off Twitter so I was probably 15
00:29:38behind
00:29:40And I was just like oh, that's
00:29:43Like the least expected news of the offseason I think and good money, too
00:29:52Yeah, I won your deal though, I don't care
00:29:55Yeah, yeah, it's odd. If if you want to try to flip it and put some weird silver lining on it
00:30:01You could say
00:30:02the fact that they're willing to give
00:30:0510.75 million to or all the Chapman probably means that they're gonna be thrown around a lot of money
00:30:10Yeah, we already kind of knew that we've already been told that enough
00:30:13We didn't really need this to prove that this didn't prove it anything any more than
00:30:18One of the countless articles that said the Red Sox are expected to spend a bunch. So I
00:30:24Get it. I don't know. They needed a lefty. It's gross. I don't like it. I don't like him. I'm dying needed
00:30:30They needed to replace Kenley with an older leadership guy
00:30:37Is he a leadership guy
00:30:40Yeah, you just look at his character and you say
00:30:44Follow that guy's lead
00:30:46Do what he does. Yeah do exactly as he does. That's what that's the whole thing about leadership is
00:30:53They need someone to follow day to day and they said
00:30:57Let's you know, usually the oldest guy on the team is kind of like a de facto veteran leadership guy, so yeah
00:31:05They really be like this spark plug and and be like the the
00:31:11You know the energizer bunny to kind of keep the guys going, you know
00:31:15Yep, if you want to read up more on that Google or Aldous Chapman battery
00:31:21Nice thanks
00:31:26Yeah shit shit person my dad dude my dad used to use
00:31:33Chapman's employment with the New York Yankees as like a just another reason to hate them
00:31:37But it was like he brought it up often, you know, it's like, you know, they that piece of shit Chapman on their team
00:31:43Yeah, you stomach that you know, and then when the Cubs won in 16
00:31:47My dad wasn't even happy where he was like the one person in America who was like fuck them
00:31:51Like outside of st. Louis
00:31:52He was the one person who was like that and his right his reasoning was, you know
00:31:57Any team that gives money for all this Chapman? They can kick rocks
00:32:02and how does he feel now I
00:32:05texted my dad or all this Chapman is a Boston Red Sox and
00:32:10He texted back six and a half hours later. Why?
00:32:13I
00:32:15Think that sums up how everyone feels. Yeah, he mulled it over for a while and couldn't find the answer himself
00:32:21Yeah, but yeah, I mean that's kind of how everybody feels. I'm not stoked about it. I kind of I don't know
00:32:30It kind of is what it is at this point like you're gonna have to just kind of suck it up
00:32:33But I don't nobody's gonna be a fan of his you think he gets booed at Fenway his first outing
00:32:39Having considered that but I
00:32:42I could totally see that. I don't think it's ever happened. I don't know if that's
00:32:47Stephen Wright got booed in his return in 2018. I
00:32:54Was there at that it was well then dead silent when he came out and
00:32:59Then like a slow muttering of booze
00:33:04But that was it I
00:33:06But that was it I can think of he's a candidate I'll tell you that
00:33:16You know, he's not a candidate for is the closer
00:33:19no, no
00:33:22No, but I think actually
00:33:25Boston
00:33:26Boston sports guys just say Gordo. I think it's probably just Gordo. It's Gordo. Yeah. Yeah
00:33:32He put it best I think on his don't play Tessie where you know, they put a clip out
00:33:38where he was talking about how
00:33:40it's probably Slayton that's the closer and and that he is and Chapman is more of the
00:33:46You got two really big lefties coming up. I think he used Otani Freeman bets. That was obviously the wrong order
00:33:53And saying like you got two out of three that are high-profile lefties. That's his inning doesn't matter if it's the 7th 8th or 9th
00:34:01I agree with that 100% I think he is the
00:34:04lefty specialist plus plus
00:34:07It's a little bit. I wonder if it affects Tanner Scott's chances of being a Boston Red Sox
00:34:13smoke to that
00:34:15But apparently doesn't you said apparently doesn't there was a report that it that it didn't glove it. I will say I
00:34:23Said this to you. I texted this to you. I
00:34:26Don't I don't think if he pitched the whole season they give up a run
00:34:30I still think I'd be upset about this which is not usually that's growth because I frankly
00:34:36Like, you know my like peak Patriots era stuff like like that kind of time was like hey if this guy helps us win
00:34:43You know, what are we talking about?
00:34:46But now I am I guess older and I really hate that guy. I
00:34:51Will say I do think he will do really well
00:34:55With this pitching system
00:35:01I mean, it's weird because he
00:35:05Is a guy known for his fast boys called the fucking missile. Yeah, he has the record
00:35:09he has the record for the fastest fastball ever thrown no humans ever thrown a ball faster than this guy and
00:35:16You know Andrew Bailey's whole thing was like stop throwing fucking fastballs
00:35:21But
00:35:23It's also velocity
00:35:26Yeah, the the Sox zero pitches at a hundred miles an hour in last year
00:35:33Is that real that's real how
00:35:36Not crazy. I think there was I didn't think there would be one team that could do that
00:35:40Yeah, I mean, well who would who would have thrown it? You know, I mean, that's why I I owe my immediate reaction
00:35:47Was that's not true
00:35:48But then I went with he's serious cuz in my head I was like, well, it wasn't Kenley I wasn't
00:35:56Chris Chris Martin, he got up to 98 again. He can't never touch double digits zero triple digits
00:36:03Interesting. That's why you need a guy like Caleb or that's why you bring back or
00:36:09But there was this clip stats put out did you see it of Andrew Bailey? Yeah
00:36:15Talking a few months ago, it might have been last year actually where he used Chapman as
00:36:24Like an example to say, you know, obviously there's guys who have monster fastballs that you just leave alone
00:36:29Yeah, I can roll this Chapman or somebody
00:36:31so
00:36:32that's that's something to know that he would just
00:36:36Kind of leave it there. I will say this which is really interesting
00:36:41So going back to 2020
00:36:44I guess that's
00:36:46That's a really small sample size. That's not fair at all
00:36:53Looking at his splits just as just as batting average splits
00:37:00116 against lefties
00:37:02200 against righties and 21 in
00:37:0522
00:37:06162 against lefties 198 against righties. What a year
00:37:10in 23
00:37:12243 against lefties
00:37:15161 against righties and
00:37:18Then last season to 11 against lefties
00:37:21194 against righties. So the past two seasons his lefty righty splits have been reversed
00:37:29At least I mean average it's kind of it would be a lot of numbers to throw your guys's way to go through like
00:37:35his Woba and shit, but
00:37:37It's fair to say those are also weighted the other direction. I
00:37:40Would say this off the top of my head it does make sense for him to be a not severely
00:37:48drastically split
00:37:51Guy because he's mostly vertical and not horizontal
00:37:54So like usually when you're talking about a guy that looks much better lefty on lefty
00:37:59It's a guy with cutters sliders a bunch of curveballs breaking breaking breaking
00:38:05He's got a fastball
00:38:07which
00:38:08Yeah, lefty on lefty. There is it's a little bit harder to pick up typically, but you're talking about a straight pitch, right a
00:38:15sinker kind of the same thing and
00:38:17Then his splitter has been like his new revelation and that goes straight down
00:38:23so as
00:38:24Far as like if you're gonna get a guy that has more balanced splits
00:38:29Versus a guy that's like all about, you know
00:38:32You know
00:38:34Vertical and horizontal break. I mean it kind of makes sense
00:38:37I could see why they'd be more even a little weird that he had that year where it was lefty skewed
00:38:42but and to like dramatically, but
00:38:45Those are encouraging numbers overall, I would say
00:38:52Last year
00:38:55386 for seamers
00:38:58304 sinkers and 135 splitters
00:39:02For what is that?
00:39:07Close to 750 fastballs away 300 sliders. Oh
00:39:16I see. Okay. I see what you're doing. You're combining these three. I was looking at this. Okay, I didn't know you were doing
00:39:23Yeah, so that's what I mean like that I would imagine
00:39:27Although it's weird, well, I guess percentage wise it's it's not weird
00:39:31But I would have thought the slider would almost be like a lefty only at this but not really I don't know
00:39:37But yeah, I like I will say I mean 225 batting average against fastball
00:39:42198 sinker
00:39:44217 slider
00:39:47125 splitter I
00:39:49Really like that. I like the underlying numbers. I like the 298
00:39:53expected the RA
00:39:56Expected the RA love the
00:39:5937.1% strikeout percentage last year. That's insane
00:40:0314.4 interesting top 1% in strikeouts and walks
00:40:06You love to see a guy that's just going out there not gonna let the fielders be involved. I
00:40:12Don't really know what to do with that
00:40:15Expected batting every get average against this 165. That's 1%
00:40:20expected slug
00:40:21282 that's 2% the metrics love this guy makes sense why they would
00:40:25uh
00:40:27The Red Sox would be a fan of this guy not a fan of this guy
00:40:31But yeah, the employer of this guy is analytics
00:40:35Yeah
00:40:37It's interesting. It's gross, but it's interesting
00:40:39I feel weird even talking about his baseball stuff, but that is what he's gonna be does feel weird
00:40:43It does feel very weird, but I do think he's a really good fit from an on-field perspective
00:40:50Although I have so many saves. Yeah
00:40:55I mean the first blown save or of like like at Fenway and him just
00:41:01dripping and sweat and he makes a weird face and
00:41:05air honks his mommy's titties and
00:41:09You know what I will say it is gonna make in a way
00:41:14relief pitching
00:41:16Like late close games more enjoyable no matter what because I think if he gets out of it goes socks, whatever
00:41:23If he does blow a save it's a lot easier to stomach where you're like, well, I hate that guy
00:41:30Yeah, whatever. Like that guy sucks and he had a while
00:41:35Shitting on Kenleaf then that wasn't the case at the end
00:41:38But for a while shitting on Kenley felt bad because it was like everybody loves him
00:41:42I've met him and he's like a nice guy. Yeah, like in his off time
00:41:48He's like on Instagram live like playing the bass like I don't want to rag on Kenley
00:41:54and then like that changed and I kind of you know, kind of switched back on Kenley, but I
00:42:00Didn't like it for a long time and with Chapman
00:42:02I'm gonna have zero qualms about you know, making a song about how much he sucks
00:42:06You know when he blows his third save of the week you make song I make I make music Doug
00:42:13Really?
00:42:14Yeah, I'm a musician
00:42:16What kind of sound like what is it? Give me like a name?
00:42:19Give you a name like a name of a song you've written

00:44:33We haven't talked since Thanksgiving
00:44:36How about that report that that he's just he signed already, huh?
00:44:41Oh, yeah, I mean good for that guy on the scoop. That's all you can say. It's we were eating
00:44:47Thanksgiving dinner and he was on the phone. So
00:44:51Yeah, we were he got we got scooped I think he was mad he was mad
00:44:59Mainly you mainly me. Yeah
00:45:04Tried to write on it just cuz it took the world by storm for a little bit and
00:45:09There's a lot to catch up on so if you're a person who isn't obsessed with baseball like us and you are I don't know
00:45:16Just enjoying Thanksgiving and you come back and you like wait, what is this? Did he sign? Did he not sign? What happened?
00:45:21I wanted just a comprehensive. Here's what happened. Here's what you missed on Thanksgiving
00:45:26and I
00:45:28talked to Mick a little bit and
00:45:32Just tried to write something that just said everything that happened while also saying
00:45:36Hey
00:45:38You know the kid the kids broken a few stories recently
00:45:41So some people bought it, but also, you know, none of the other big dogs have said anything. So
00:45:47It'd be pretty hard to believe that he has it, but he's standing by it
00:45:51and
00:45:58Scott was like you got to make it way more abundantly clear that we don't endorse this as fact
00:46:05Yeah, and I was like, okay, it's it's up there now so it's already posted and I sent
00:46:15Mick the link to the story as
00:46:18I got a text from you that said I added a couple paragraphs at the end
00:46:25To make it really clear that we don't endorse this bullshit
00:46:30And can I read what you wrote
00:46:33Of course I
00:46:35Do you want to set up like the right? I guess you did set up the article but
00:46:40Yeah
00:46:42So I just ended with like the quote of him saying I'd be stunned if we didn't get a team announcement by the middle of
00:46:47next week
00:46:48By the way, it is Thursday now
00:46:51Then you added
00:46:54Worth noting after initially saying Soto had signed in Boston on Thursday
00:46:58Mick is now saying everything will be made official over the weekend already
00:47:01Backtracking to make it sound like if he was he was right if Soto does in fact signed in Boston at any point in the near
00:47:07future
00:47:07There's also as previously noted
00:47:10No chance the biggest free agent in baseball could have signed days ago without a peep from the aforementioned big dogs and MLB journalism
00:47:17Even if Soto ends up in Boston mix report was nothing more than a guest to gain attention
00:47:22With that said it was still a fun storyline follow follow that made for good to start
00:47:28Discussion at the dinner table and quote
00:47:31Dude he got you you made him so big mad. You made him so mad. Yeah. Yeah. Did you listen to the thing?
00:47:38I sent you. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I think I will say here's the thing. I had never heard this guy's voice
00:47:44I didn't know who he was until
00:47:48You know this whole thing happened and that's no disrespect to him, but I knew he was a Minahan guy
00:47:53That's all I knew and I actually came away
00:47:57Impressed because
00:48:00Admittedly from the beginning. I thought this was a bit which is why I was like, yeah, right the story
00:48:06It'll be a fun like recap of a fun thing that happened
00:48:10You do get understand though. This is an outlet that we cannot pretend that
00:48:15You know, we're just gonna grab any rumor and just roll with it, you know, like we yeah
00:48:20So that's why I felt the need for there to be boring
00:48:24I tried to you know, I wanted you know
00:48:26you to put that in your own words and I read it and I was like I think we can do a little more to
00:48:29be like
00:48:30Cuz because what was about to happen you sent it to him
00:48:34What was about to happen is he was about to say hey
00:48:39Newsweek is endorsing this report in fueling the flame and I did not want that and so what he had to say instead
00:48:45Was that then he just had to get mad about Newsday or Newsweek or Newsbreak or whatever
00:48:52He had a lot of firm opinions about how trash it's always been but he didn't know what it was called
00:48:57Yeah, it is what it is. Um
00:49:00Look, I think it's one of those things where
00:49:04What what he did is he created drama and then he got really mad and energetic and it's something that I will say
00:49:11I didn't know who he was and now every few days I like to go on his Twitter and see what he's saying about this
00:49:17Yes, it's a circus act but it's he's it's entertainment I think what Minahan would say is like
00:49:24Eyes are on me. This is entertainment
00:49:27I'm not gonna be one of those boring guys that just says like, you know, it's just like the stats guy, whatever
00:49:33He's gonna just say some crazy shit and get a lot of people listen to him and he you know
00:49:39Minahan does a really good job if there's drama
00:49:42Yeah, he does a really good job of getting out that you know
00:49:46Tell me what's going on like like and he'll he'll say how it is and he'll get other people who say I'm not gonna talk
00:49:52About this subject anymore. He'll get it out of them
00:49:54And in this case
00:49:55He sounded a lot like that and he goes on this tirade about how he hates Newsweek or Newsday or whatever it is
00:50:02and always has but doesn't know what it's called and
00:50:04How the editor me?
00:50:07Doesn't know what I'm talking about, but you said he signed on Thanksgiving
00:50:11so what he's doing now, he's just trying to repurpose the
00:50:15Package so that if Juan Soto
00:50:19ever signs with the rate could be Christmas and
00:50:23He would say I was right. He signed on Thanksgiving
00:50:27We just didn't know for six weeks or four weeks or five weeks or wherever he actually signs
00:50:33which is insane like obviously to this point he's backtracked and
00:50:39Obviously he hasn't I mean they're not even done doing meetings and and he you know
00:50:43I thought though I will say this is what I thought was happening and why I wanted you
00:50:48To write the story other than it's an interesting angle. We'll see what happens
00:50:52I think it's good for to do a unique story like that and not always just have to go by fact if you can find
00:50:59an interesting
00:51:00Narrative that's not necessarily report based just here's what happened on Thanksgiving. That's what you did
00:51:05But what I thought is in his bio he calls himself the Cape Cod insider
00:51:10He's on Minahan, so that's already like a trolling operation or was or whatever I
00:51:18Thought he was doing a bit and I thought it was funny and I was alone really did
00:51:21When I posted that you thought it was a bit still
00:51:24yes, because I
00:51:25Well, I will say when he went back at pass it
00:51:28I don't know in Minahan is like the earliest the show account is like bagging him
00:51:31I thought this was one of those things where he took a stab at at the Jim Montgomery thing
00:51:37And he got it, right
00:51:38Like it was like a hot seat moment people are talking about is this is this the end there were I feel like there was
00:51:44Smoke there, right? I'm not crazy. You're the you're the Bruins guy, right?
00:51:47There was tons of smoke, right?
00:51:49So after that, I will say he nailed the day it happened because like yeah
00:51:53He tweeted that at 1030 in the morning and I got I heard at noon
00:52:01So he had it before me and when I told other
00:52:08Bruins people
00:52:10They hadn't heard yet and that was you know, noon 1230 around there and then the news broke it like four
00:52:17So yeah, so my what I thought happened again. I didn't really know about the other two
00:52:23Stories but I knew the day of the Soto stuff people saying what he's been right about this and that I thought he just made
00:52:29two
00:52:30like stabs that he got right and he was like
00:52:34I'm just gonna keep doing this as long as I can keep doing it
00:52:37and I thought it was a bit that he was in on that, you know minute had like all these I thought it was a
00:52:43Joke, and I did not realize that it does see him like he really thinks that Juan Soto signed on Thanksgiving
00:52:50And he's right. He's the only one there he if he genuinely thinks
00:52:55That Juan Soto signed with the Boston Red Sox and he's the only one in the world to know I
00:53:03Mean that's awesome. I love that. I
00:53:05That's fantastic. But yeah, we're not gonna put out a story on Newsweek that said
00:53:12Who knows it could be true it could not be true. No the guy doesn't know a damn thing and that's obvious I
00:53:19honestly at the time
00:53:22When it came out and when he said it I really did think like there's a chance that he just
00:53:28That he heard it I did I thought there's a there's a chance this kid
00:53:34Just knows the right guy
00:53:36You know that like there's that everyone's keeping their lips tight
00:53:40But he knows one guy in there who just told him. Yeah, I'm like
00:53:45That stuff happens. That's how stories break. That's how the our industry works and
00:53:51I
00:53:53Thought I really gave myself like 48 hours. I
00:53:57Was like if like
00:54:00Because there's still reports now
00:54:02Coming out today about teams setting up meetings and teams
00:54:07Submitting new offers and all that that's not gonna that's not the case if he has fucking signed
00:54:13It's not the case
00:54:15That doesn't happen. That doesn't make any sense. So it's now been a full week. But
00:54:22yeah, there's a piece of me that's
00:54:25Upset because I'm I'm already ready for a victory lap that's gonna make no sense, but
00:54:31Exactly. Yeah, you it's it really is a it is the one silver lining to him to Soto signing elsewhere
00:54:39Yeah, it would be one. Yeah, it would be kind of sweet to be like, well what happened? I signed on said Thanksgiving. Yeah, I
00:54:47Expanded he staked a lot on it
00:54:49He's like quadrupled down and he's he's staked his whole like will never believe me again if I'm wrong, you know, okay
00:54:55Which is I mean, that's it. That's but to me again, that's a troll move. Like that's not like I
00:55:01Don't know I just I don't know. I don't know what is I just I can't figure the guy out and I like it
00:55:06I like it. I hope he keeps doing it
00:55:09Cuz even he even he took two minutes to disparage me on his show
00:55:13Or however long it was and I was thoroughly entertained the entire time like I I think it's a funny
00:55:20It's a funny storyline and that's kind of why I capped it the way I did which is like obviously it's not real
00:55:25I hope he keeps doing this. I hope because because this is like if that Peppin guy
00:55:31Just started going after people in the comments too and doubling down and get you mentioned if like
00:55:38Is it Peppin right? That's how you say his name?
00:55:40Yeah, it's cool. Yeah, it's America when you'll Garcia like gleniel, whatever if he just if he just
00:55:48Really yeah, I don't know where I don't follow him
00:55:51Huh? Well, if you just like went after passing it was like no you're a jackass. I know when you don't that's good comedy
00:55:58That's good. That's what Twitter's for
00:56:01So, yeah, I hope he keeps doing it. I really do. I hope he keeps going
00:56:05I love the Cape Cod insider as a name
00:56:07But yeah, obviously I wasn't gonna I mean we need to be very clear and it was funny because um,
00:56:15You sent it
00:56:16to him
00:56:18As you said as as I added that and I was like, well, hey like I will gladly take the fall for that
00:56:24Because I I do understand
00:56:28Talking to someone taking their time and then
00:56:32Story we're just like yeah, this guy's an idiot after after reviewing him. He's an idiot
00:56:37He did make it sound like he gave you a lot of time. You guys just dm'd correct? There was no
00:56:42Yeah, I actually never heard back from him after I sent him the article
00:56:47Well in a way he responded. He sure did. Yeah just saying
00:56:52You know, I do think it's it's a good thing. I think that
00:56:56Um, I don't know. I don't know if that's so bad
00:56:58Yeah, just saying, you know, I do think it's it's it's fair that uh, he at least didn't like come at you
00:57:06Although he did pretend he didn't know your name or whatever. Uh, yeah
00:57:11It's like joey caponi or whatever from news week or something. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, you know, you know
00:57:19It clearly was important to him because even though we disparaged him
00:57:21He still tweeted it out because he was the only credible outlet that ever that even touched it
00:57:27Yeah, it was the I don't know I thought it was worth talking about because like it did rile people up and
00:57:32It kind of was the story of the minute and uh good for him
00:57:36For I liked it. I liked the story. I liked what you did. I think I think that kind of stuff is is under
00:57:42underutilized especially on my teams because
00:57:47you
00:57:48Get told as a reporter so much they like accuracy accuracy accuracy only follow these accounts
00:57:52But you weren't saying he was right
00:57:54You were just saying you were telling the story of a very interesting day for red sox fans, and it wasn't just him
00:58:00it was also
00:58:02Hector gomez and there were all these other, you know reports and passen responded like he did get in the mix
00:58:08um
00:58:09It was a fun
00:58:12Day for red sox fans to follow that
00:58:15and
00:58:16You encapsulated that and I think that's a cool creative angle and I I don't want every single article we post to just be
00:58:22You know
00:58:23Juan Soto predicted to leave yankees for richest contract in mlb history max fried freed predicted to betray braves for mega
00:58:30Deal with nao east i'm reading them off our page. Um, and the rest of them look the same that was different. So I liked it
00:58:38Thanks, thanks
00:58:41uh
00:58:42I got a an interesting thanksgiving story to actually empty my brain of thoughts
00:58:47Okay
00:58:49It's not that interesting, I don't know it's just kind of my thanksgiving because we haven't talked it's been a week
00:58:53Since thanksgiving we haven't talked since thanksgiving. We put out the episode after thanksgiving. We recorded it right before thanksgiving. Yeah
00:59:01um
00:59:04There were two people at my thanksgiving who uh are
00:59:10Uh, not american folk not american born and not uh, they don't live here
00:59:16so
00:59:17um
00:59:18two first american thanksgivings
00:59:22Which
00:59:23very cool to like see
00:59:25you know somebody like experience a like a
00:59:29National holiday or like a tradition here
00:59:31That's not
00:59:33Uh the case elsewhere that was pretty cool. I like that
00:59:37Um, I I made eggnog like spiked eggnog like I had made it before in like jars
00:59:44A little
00:59:45Yeah for thanksgiving. I don't know. I I really made it for christmas
00:59:48I just made it early because you can keep it eggnog stays for a long time, which is odd
00:59:53But when you spike it, it's just the alcohol. I don't know
00:59:56It stays they people say it stays for years. I think that's kind of crazy because there's raw egg in it, but whatever
01:00:03uh
01:00:04I was telling this guy
01:00:07Stefano dude. Okay. Let let me let me backtrack a little bit. Let me tell you this
01:00:12Uh, my girlfriend right she's like because it's this is her family thanksgiving, right?
01:00:18She's like, oh my cousin is bringing his co-worker
01:00:23Um, who's from italy?
01:00:26Uh, because he just doesn't have anywhere to go. He's never been part of a thanksgiving so he's bringing him
01:00:34And
01:00:35I said, you know, it must suck to be an italian in america because there's like so many expectations for you one
01:00:42Everybody's going to tell you that they're part italian
01:00:45and they're gonna
01:00:46Everyone thinks that they know a couple of italian words, but also
01:00:50You hear italian guy and you're like, oh, I bet he's some hot chiseled, you know
01:00:55Sharp jaw, he's got a thick accent and the hair
01:00:58I bet he's tall dark and handsome and whatever like there's an expectation visibly that you have to live up to you know
01:01:05And i'm telling this to my girlfriend
01:01:06I'm like, yeah, it's got to suck for him because like you and I are both picturing some tall dark and handsome chisel
01:01:12Bastard, and he's probably some you know, he's just a guy. He's just one of us
01:01:17You know
01:01:18And I walk in the door
01:01:20On thanksgiving and this six three chiseled
01:01:27Some man comes around the corner and he's like i'm stefano and i'm like fuck you
01:01:32Of course you are dude. Yeah, I bet you are man
01:01:35uh totally wrong just he was
01:01:38Uh, beautiful. It was a beautiful man. Um
01:01:41I got drunk and sang the italian national anthem
01:01:46At him he wasn't partaking he joined it eventually, okay, I was pity probably more than anything
01:01:55Okay
01:01:57so
01:01:58uh, that's how my thanksgiving when I got I got drunk enough where there was a moment of silence and I just
01:02:04Broke out in a song in italian
01:02:08I had an italian man. How was yours good less less of that going on
01:02:16No, it's how much like zero italian
01:02:20Nope didn't get any german
01:02:26Do you look like your family would speak a little bit of french
01:02:30Nope
01:02:31I want you to well, I mean you get it when you say family. Um
01:02:37We don't really have like I don't really have much of one, um
01:02:43Do you want to take a stab at the amount of people were at uh, thanksgiving I hosted
01:02:48Keep in mind. I'm an only child both parents still together
01:02:52So I went to my parents house
01:02:54Yep
01:02:55your mom
01:02:56Mm-hmm your dad
01:02:58Mm-hmm
01:03:00Do you have like a grandparent
01:03:02No, no
01:03:05Maybe maybe like an aunt
01:03:08close
01:03:09An uncle. Yeah, one uncle. That's what we had for people. That's it. Yep. Nice full roster
01:03:15You gotta have an uncle at thanksgiving. That's just kind of yeah, that's a mainstay. That's a staple
01:03:20You want to talk about my favorite thanksgiving sides? It's an uncle
01:03:25Right
01:03:26Yeah table's not complete
01:03:28he's a guy that will
01:03:31show up a little bit before we
01:03:34and before like it's like
01:03:37last bite
01:03:39Hit the fork hits the plate
01:03:41And it's like I I should I should probably beat the traffic
01:03:45Yeah, there's a yeah, I gotta get going. Yeah, so
01:03:49We have a guest for like two and a half hours and then and then it's just a normal day
01:03:53Really holidays when I was younger a lot more
01:03:56Uh family came around and and way less of them
01:03:59Uh, you know a lot of them died since then which was silly of them fair that happens
01:04:04And so we had a bigger family and and that was fine
01:04:08But now it's like holidays aren't really I don't know hard to get up. Yeah, I mean
01:04:13Well, that's why I went to her family's because mine
01:04:16My family doesn't really do any holiday outside of christmas
01:04:20and I
01:04:22I texted my mom while I was there. I was like, hey
01:04:24Like I can still swing by for dessert later if you want if you guys are around and she said don't really feel like company
01:04:33My mom was like don't
01:04:36So my mom was like do not come to the house on thanksgiving i'm going to bed soon
01:04:41Like you all right right on
01:04:43You asked your mom to go to thanks if if she wanted to see you on thanksgiving and she said don't really feel like company
01:04:52I think she said not really feeling up to company. I think is what she said. I think it's funny that like
01:04:59She considers you company like when I think of company
01:05:02I think about like an extra like I don't think my parents think of me as company when I come over
01:05:08Yeah, I have a key to the house. I'm not right. Right. It's exactly what I mean. Have you you lived in this house at some point?
01:05:15Most of my life. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, perfect. That's see when I when I don't when I come home
01:05:22And I still have my bedroom attack. I don't really consider myself like as a guest
01:05:27Yeah, yeah
01:05:29That's so funny. Yeah, that's so funny
01:05:34So that was that was thanksgiving and in the middle of that having to
01:05:37Explain it the tape because I was at the table when I saw the one soto thing
01:05:41And i'm like looking at my phone, but i'm trying not to like overreact and whatever like, you know
01:05:45Looking under the table on my phone trying to be extra, you know, you know best behavior elbows off the table all that
01:05:52And uh, yeah getting a couple of like what's going on? What's going on?
01:05:55I'm like, oh nothing nothing nothing, but i'm not sure if it's not nothing. It might be something
01:06:01Yeah, yeah, I didn't for me like I did follow it just because it was an interesting thing
01:06:06but the extent of it to talking about it was like
01:06:10I told my dad I was like I had some I was like there's some interesting soto stuff going on, but it's not
01:06:15It's not real. Like I I it didn't get me
01:06:18I don't know. I I was a little surprised by the
01:06:22the fanfare it got for people thinking that that was going to lead to anything you do obviously when you see something like that you
01:06:29just they're like
01:06:30I guess there's it's like
01:06:32Five to ten percent more likely that you get a pass and tweet in 20 minutes. I guess there's that
01:06:37um
01:06:39But yeah
01:06:44What a week what a week folks
01:06:47Um, maybe the next time we talk one soda will assign because the winter meetings start monday
01:06:53We will not be there
01:06:55Although scott has offered to take me all expenses paid to spring training in february
01:07:03So that was very kind of him everybody tweet thank you scott
01:07:08at him
01:07:09Reply to this show with hashtag. Thank you scott
01:07:13um
01:07:15Just a generous offer
01:07:16So we will come to you live probably not next week because next week is not february. It's december
01:07:22Not even close, but we'll be coming to you live from
01:07:26uh
01:07:27the sunny shores of fort myers
01:07:31at some point
01:07:33Uh, but yeah, maybe next week maybe next week or in the next week. We have an emergency pod
01:07:40Yeah, I mean I have uh, I got one of my staff members on on site and I would have uh
01:07:47It's uh, it's nate haggerty, by the way. Oh, you said
01:07:51Yep, not me. Okay, cool. Well, he um, can I say something? It's dallas
01:07:56Actually, I don't care right and he i've asked you to go and you didn't want to and also
01:08:00Oh, right. And also he lives in dallas. So, okay
01:08:05It kind of made sense to me because nobody that all checks out for it
01:08:08You know what? No one wanted to travel for the winter meetings. Yeah hand up. Yeah hand up
01:08:13Those are great points. You did ask me. I did say no and he does live in dallas. Okay
01:08:17Yeah, because I fair points me you me you and and and uh motts were all I would have done all that
01:08:23It would have been fun if we all went down there, but yeah, I guess
01:08:27I'll say one closing thought I think uh,
01:08:30I have this friend mackie, you know, my guys with mackie stro lordy all my nickname guys mackie
01:08:37Yeah, he works for hyper rice so he goes down
01:08:41to the winter meetings to like
01:08:44I guess do deals with the athletic training departments at the mlb level. Yeah, but they have
01:08:52Like all of those product sale things happen thursday friday
01:08:57Where the normal like winter meetings you hear about is sunday to wednesday all the reporters go home on wednesday night
01:09:04So no one cares about the thursday friday part unless you're involved in that business the business market
01:09:09And so he's there he's he went last year
01:09:12This is funny last year. It's nashville
01:09:16I'm convincing him and steve to go and i'm like come on guys. It'll be so fun. It's nashville. Let's do this
01:09:23Steve doesn't know if he can get it off because he's not full-time with me yet. He used to get pto
01:09:27He got like some promotion where he had to do some training
01:09:31And he couldn't get it out get out of it, so
01:09:34I tell mackie we're all getting dinner. I booked a hotel at mackie's house
01:09:40And then we got close
01:09:42Steve couldn't go
01:09:44Mackie's gonna be like two days later than me
01:09:47So it's gonna be like a few days without without just like just me and I just canceled
01:09:52and then
01:09:53Mackie texted me on that thursday and was like hey, like are you around and I was like, oh
01:09:58I never actually went
01:10:03And then this year he texted me like
01:10:07Right, like I think it was literally the day after I got back from dallas
01:10:11For the all-star game and he was like, hey dallas these dates winter meetings
01:10:16Group chat me him motts and we're like, yes, a hundred percent
01:10:21And then we're getting into it. He has a hockey game as part of hyper race
01:10:24They're going to a hockey game like with the athletic staff
01:10:29Yeah
01:10:30um
01:10:31And he's got all these seats and everything. He's like I can't get you into this event
01:10:35So like at first he was like I might be able to get tickets from the team. Whatever he can't
01:10:39so
01:10:41Monday my events sunday through wednesday thursday night. We can't hang out
01:10:46Friday night we can hang out but he has a flight and I have a flight
01:10:49Saturday morning and then we have the christmas party for our friend group at my house saturday night
01:10:55So we can't even really go out on friday to the you know, like a real level
01:11:00And so i'm like I would have to go sunday
01:11:03Stay through friday so that we can hang out for a couple hours on friday and not go too hard
01:11:07And then fly back and go be thrown into my own christmas party that means me and motts are both in dallas
01:11:14So no one's preparing for it
01:11:16um, and I would I canceled again and uh
01:11:19I just it's funny because I the first time I begged him to go and I canceled this time
01:11:23He just had to go but yeah
01:11:26Where where are they next year?
01:11:28Because maybe maybe next year they're actually in a destination
01:11:32I don't think they reveal that information ahead of time. Like I think we find out in like march
01:11:39Like it's not like the all-star game where it's like a year announced in advance like because if you remember remember in uh
01:11:45San diego
01:11:47It I I remember this way too vividly. It was it was after steve parral had left
01:11:53We were with steve montrum. It was just the three of us the last night the night. What a night
01:11:57What a night at sanders xander sign. I remember that I remember
01:12:02Before that we went to like a bar. Remember they gave me trouble
01:12:05They wouldn't let me into the bar at first and asked me like my snapchat
01:12:08Birthday because they didn't like yeah. Yeah. Yeah that bar we go into that bar. It was like a dive bar
01:12:13We we immediately went in and were like this isn't what we were looking for
01:12:17We sat down at a table and I remember us
01:12:20Googling like where the previous winter meetings have been trying to figure out where it could be
01:12:24But we couldn't get an answer for like ahead of time
01:12:30So, I don't think you can get an answer
01:12:33but it's usually
01:12:35san diego nashville
01:12:37And then some of the disney's
01:12:40Yeah, so going backwards it's been dallas nashville san diego
01:12:46canceled canceled
01:12:48san diego
01:12:49Paradise, I think that's florida. Florida. I think
01:12:53bay lake which is florida
01:12:56National harbor maryland
01:12:59There is every like 10 years. There is an indianapolis. There is a maryland. There is a boston
01:13:04It was one boston like a very long time ago
01:13:07It's been a couple years since bay lake which is disney world
01:13:12I think both disney worlds are in the picture if I remember correctly
01:13:17There's only one disney world dude a disneyland, whatever
01:13:22Uh, yeah, I mean listen if it's in disney next year
01:13:28We get sebi credential the winter meetings my sebi. Yeah. Yeah, I think we can do that
01:13:36I'm already going in june. Where's the all-star game this year? I want to say chicago. No way
01:13:45Right
01:13:472025
01:13:50Atlanta
01:13:52Right. Chicago is the chicago of georgia as they say. No, hold on. Hold on. Hold on
01:13:59Future I know they're they are hosting one
01:14:03I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know
01:14:09Maybe not where what?
01:14:15It doesn't seem like it man, it doesn't nope
01:14:20Because philly is the one after that and i'm not neither of those are too exciting. I like atlanta
01:14:26I've never been it's just not one that like
01:14:29There's a few cities for me that would get me like, oh, that's gonna be awesome
01:14:33You love strip clubs
01:14:35I don't
01:14:37You love them
01:14:38Okay, you tell me all the time. You love them, right? What are you talking about? Oh the uh,
01:14:44We got lowell and cambridge right around me. Uh, i'm sure they're
01:14:49And they're tired of seeing you well, yeah, yeah i'm not yeah
01:14:54It is crazy that that's what like atlanta nightlife is known for but also the area around juras park is really cool they say so
01:15:01Man, I
01:15:02I could have sworn
01:15:04That the cubs were in this. I don't know what they're hosting then chicago that I was supposed to go to but
01:15:10I'm supposed to be in chicago at some point
01:15:15Would you switch to uh
01:15:17basketball coverage
01:15:19No
01:15:21That's too bad
01:15:24I don't like that game
01:15:27Yeah, but they have their all-star games are
01:15:32San francisco don't care la
01:15:37Phoenix
01:15:41The warm, you know when they're in february
01:15:46That's opposed to incredibly hot in dallas that's cool, man. Yeah
01:15:51Yeah
01:15:53You're going in february I guess too apparently right forgot you're sending me in feb
01:16:01Yeah, maybe i'd prefer an airbnb
01:16:06When you say that i'm sending you the first time you made it sound like we're both going
01:16:10Yeah, I changed my mind a minute ago. Yeah
01:16:14Yeah
01:16:16We almost did a huge airbnb for the 2023 all-star game
01:16:22In
01:16:24Seattle
01:16:25Yeah
01:16:26which was the sticking point for the rest of us, but
01:16:29steve went
01:16:31Steve lane went there was a chance where the five of us would have gone. That was fun. Yeah, that would have been four
01:16:40A lot of us motts would have been yeah considered I think at that point so there could have been five
01:16:46That would have been interesting
01:16:48Yeah, it would have been something
01:16:50next time
01:16:52Next time the five of us will go. Yeah
01:16:56Get an airbnb why not
01:17:02Well
01:17:04This has been our show raul this chapman is on the boston redsox, uh by opening day he will be 37 years old
01:17:13Yeah, that's something something to think about
01:17:15uh
01:17:17If you want to follow the show
01:17:18You can follow it at itm underscore pod. You can follow me on joey. Caponi. You can follow him at scott neville
01:17:2446
01:17:25Oh, oh, let me do that again. You can follow him at scott neville
01:17:2946 just like a rough estimate of how many days until one soto signs
01:17:35Uh, I got my hard guess. Do you have a hard guess what day?
01:17:38Hmm, I guess i'm gonna say tuesday of winter meetings, so i'm gonna say tuesday
01:17:43Really? Okay. That's a good sign. I was gonna say like tuesday afternoon at like one o'clock. Do you want to report something now?
01:17:54Sources are telling me
01:17:55That he's gonna sign over the winter meetings and then you get a you get a runway of like 10 days here
01:18:00Say something vague so that you have like a 15 day. You could be right scenario
01:18:04Sources have confirmed
01:18:07That one soto the one soto negotiations are reaching the final stage
01:18:17I love it. That's perfect
01:18:19Are you sure you don't want to get too specific by accident by saying it's a 12-year deal?
01:18:23There's going to do an announcement video at fenway park
01:18:27He got too specific
01:18:29Yeah
01:18:31He got too specific, yeah
01:18:37I'm telling you. I I think I think the socks
01:18:41I think it's
01:18:43I don't know my honestly my hope my my my numbers kind of went down this week, which is kind of crazy
01:18:49Mine did too
01:18:51Yeah
01:18:52I don't know just hearing that the yankees are still in it. I really when I saw the 550 thing break
01:18:56Yeah, I really believed the yankees were out and it was a two horse race super now
01:19:01Yeah, now that that's not the case
01:19:05I don't know. I just feel like the mets have like a 60 chance
01:19:11And like the socks are pulling up 30
01:19:18I don't know. The yankees can kick rocks
01:19:21We'll see you guys next week, thanks for following thanks for listening sub on the youtube
