00:00And it's in!
00:01Look out!
00:02Here's O'Dowd following the timeout.
00:04Hurley looking in zone.
00:06He throws.
00:07Touchdown!
00:08Jawad Jennings!
00:11You couldn't ask for a better start for the 49ers offense,
00:14especially the way that they got pummeled against Buffalo.
00:18They come out today.
00:19This is a really good Bears defense.
00:21They march right down the field and score a touchdown.
00:24Now, back to Stiney and Guru on 95-7, the game.
00:29All right, Kenny Albert, Fox Sports, and Jawad Jennings
00:32with a couple touchdown receptions for the Niners.
00:35They roll over the Bears 38-13.
00:37They were up 24-0.
00:39Bears came back, scored to make it 24-6.
00:42Went for two.
00:44Guy dropped it.
00:45Ball game's over.
00:46The Bears!
00:48So the San Francisco 49ers right now sit at 6-7.
00:53It's the Bears!
00:54They're still technically in last place in the NFC West
00:58because they're tied with the Cardinals,
01:00but the Cardinals have beaten them head-to-head,
01:03and the Cardinals have a better record than the 49ers in the division,
01:06which every other team does also.
01:09So they won a game yesterday,
01:11but they have really put themselves in a hole,
01:14and how much does that win yesterday
01:19weigh into the fact of the entire year that they've had?
01:24In other words, I'm watching that game yesterday,
01:26and every time I'm thinking, there we go.
01:28There we go.
01:29All right.
01:30There we go.
01:31That's an easy win.
01:32Then you see what happened around the division,
01:37and it's not good,
01:38and then you realize you're running out of time.
01:40You've got four games left.
01:42You have two division games left
01:44and two non-division games,
01:48one against the Dolphins, one against the Lions.
01:50So, boy, still got a long way to go.
01:54Long, long, long way to go.
01:56No, Steiner, you're right, but I'll tell you this.
01:58What if they had lost 38-13 on top of those two games back-to-back
02:03in conditions to where you got some fans questioning everything
02:07and Kyle Shanahan or whatnot?
02:09So, to me, before you get help other places,
02:13you've got to help yourself,
02:14and that's what they did last night.
02:16So you tell me if I'm crazy.
02:19Is it almost a good thing that they got a game in three days
02:22against a division foe that can help your cause?
02:25You chill.
02:27Get rest.
02:28We might see Greenlaw Thursday, and then you'll watch Sunday.
02:32That's where you go into, okay,
02:34this is where we need all the hope to start.
02:37But if you don't win Thursday and if you didn't win yesterday
02:40in the fashion that they did,
02:42I'm really wondering would today be like a funeral of, oh, boy,
02:46what do we got going on?
02:48And the one thing I'll say, the Bears offensively were putrid.
02:51The Niners had a lot to do with that.
02:53But, Stonnie, the Niners offense, 5 of 6 in the red zone, 24 to nothing,
02:58explosive plays left and right.
03:01I guess I just like the fact that the Bears on paper were top-10 defense.
03:06Yeah, this is from the Comcast business text line.
03:10Texted this earlier.
03:11Let's just say hypothetically the 49ers win out.
03:14Well, you know, I'm going to stop there.
03:17I'm going to stop there because this team hasn't won more than what,
03:20two or three games in a row all year?
03:23They finally won one after a three-game losing streak.
03:26I don't think we can jump ahead and say they're going to run the table.
03:29First thing they got to do is beat the Rams on a short week,
03:33and the Rams are coming off a big win.
03:35And if the Rams beat you on Thursday night-night.
03:38Niners haven't won more than two in a row this year.
03:40Yeah, so look at that.
03:41They haven't won three in a row all year.
03:44And as I would ask, what good team have they beaten?
03:50Who's the best team they've beaten?
03:52Is it Seattle?
03:53I guess it's got to be Seattle.
03:54First place, Seattle Seahawks.
03:56You're right.
03:57But when that win happened, I don't think Seattle was a 500 team at the point,
04:01but it doesn't matter.
04:03They're in this position.
04:04You can't change it.
04:06They're 6-7, and they got to keep winning and get some help.
04:118-8-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-7-0 is the number.
04:15My question to 49er fans is how optimistic are you after that win
04:20that they can put something together?
04:22Because I'll tell you what I'm sensing.
04:24I'm sensing a lot of 49er fans knowing the reality of the situation.
04:32I don't sense a lot of excitement about this win.
04:37I sense more of, well, we had to do it,
04:40and the Bears are a mess, and we did nothing but take care of business,
04:46which we had to do.
04:47But I get the sense that 49er fans aren't jumping up and down
04:52doing cartwheels right now.
04:54I guess you don't jump up and down when you do cartwheels.
04:56Jump up and down and do cartwheels.
04:59I don't sense that from 49er fans at all.
05:02I sense a fan base that knows they're still in a deep hole,
05:06and a lot has to fall into place for this team.
05:09You know what?
05:10I'm not mad at you, but what if I threw this to you and 49er fans, Donnie?
05:13What if 49er fans are frustrated?
05:15Where was this offensive production in the conditions in Buffalo?
05:19Was that fair against Green Bay, against Seattle?
05:23Why was it so easy to go up and down the field yesterday?
05:27And that's when you say, and I get it, I don't want to answer for you,
05:30it's the Bears.
05:32I mean the Bears.
05:33It's the Bears.
05:34I look at the Bears, and I was listening to the radio,
05:39I was watching the pregame stuff,
05:42and as everybody was talking about the Bears,
05:45I started thinking, man, it feels like they could win this game.
05:49Oh my gosh.
05:50They've lost three really close games.
05:52They've been a little bit snakebitten, and I'm thinking,
05:55maybe the Bears are pretty good.
05:58But I think what happened yesterday is when a team isn't great
06:03and they've lost some nail biters, they're due for one.
06:07And I thought the Bears got what they deserved yesterday.
06:12I don't think they were very good at all.
06:14A lot of zone when teams, other defenses, Donnie, have said,
06:18let's just man up with these Niner receivers.
06:21They can't beat us.
06:22And the Bears came in running a lot of zone, and they got just gashed.
06:266-5-0.
06:27All I was saying, Donnie, was Seattle only has to go 1-2
06:29versus Green Bay, Minnesota, Chicago,
06:32and beat the Rams to win the division.
06:34I was saying it's still a steep hill.
06:36Yeah, you're right, 6-5-0.
06:39I mean, you're absolutely right.
06:408-8-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-7-0 is the number.
06:45What did you guys think of Isaac Arendo?
06:47He ran pretty hard yesterday, was effective,
06:50and that looked like the old Kyle Shanahan offensive.
06:53Regardless of who's playing in the backfield,
06:57whoever's running the football is going to be effective,
06:59and Arendo was effective yesterday.
07:015.2 a pop.
07:03Is that what it was?
07:04Yeah.
07:05I mean, it's one of those games where if you look at the numbers.
07:08Everybody but Debo got some.
07:11What did Debo end up with?
07:122 for 22 in the passing game, and then 5 for 13 on the ground.
07:17Still not fooling.
07:18I'm not blaming him.
07:19Just not fooling a lot of people.
07:21Yeah, I mean, I don't worry about that when you win by 25 points.
07:26Like who wasn't featured and who was.
07:28Well, he did speak Saturday along with Purdy and some others, Donnie.
07:32So I wonder, again, how do you differentiate if guys getting up that normally don't talk?
07:38You know, and I guess Purdy, I'm paraphrasing what I've heard and read,
07:42is he was just talking about the energy of the team,
07:45even on the sideline when you're not on the field.
07:47And they brought it from the giddy-up.
07:50This is George Kittle on whether they have enough time left in this season
07:55to get it done.
07:56We still have everything in front of us to play for.
07:58I know, like, certain things might need to happen,
08:00but if we win every single game, I think we put ourselves in a very good position
08:03to either win the division or somehow sneak our way into a playoff contention.
08:06And I thought, you know, everyone just focus on this one week.
08:10Hey, everybody lock in.
08:11Forget the whole season.
08:12Like whether you've played like crap the entire season,
08:15whether you've had missed opportunities,
08:16whether you have a bunch of touchdowns, whatever it is,
08:18flush all that and just focus on this one game.
08:20Put all your time and effort and energy into this one game,
08:22and then we'll live with those results.
08:23And I think the whole team did that the entire week.
08:25I thought we had a great week of practice.
08:26Everyone was dialed in, and then we went around to this game
08:28and, you know, ran the heck out of the ball.
08:30Brock found a rhythm.
08:31Our defense was on fire.
08:32So just, like, playing team football.
08:34And, you know, I definitely think everybody in the building still believes,
08:37you know.
08:38Our coach said it was excellent.
08:39Coach Shanahan dials up great game plans,
08:41and our execution day was, I thought, really, really well done.
08:43And so if you can just combine those two things, our offense is pretty good.
08:49Now he devises great offensive plays.
08:52Last week he didn't.
08:53Dude, but we hadn't seen those.
08:55I hadn't.
08:56Those screams to him.
08:57I like that, Stony.
08:58And he scampered down a few times.
09:00I mean, the kibble was just incredible.
09:03And so was the offense and the defense.
09:05I can't forget about them.
09:06I've been on Sorensen's neck.
09:08Seven sacks without Bosa.
09:10Now I do understand, Stony, that the Bears came in with 52 sacks.
09:14That was by far the most in the NFL.
09:17But they couldn't do anything.
09:19In the first half, they had two yards.
09:22That never happens.
09:24So this is what I'm getting at, Niner fans.
09:26I got a consecutive text on the Comcast Business Text Line,
09:29once from the 408 Center.
09:31I'm feeling good about this win.
09:32The first half was complete and total domination.
09:35You can only win the game you play.
09:37It's a good win to build confidence for the last four games.
09:40Stop the gloom and doom, Stony.
09:43209.
09:45This game proved nothing.
09:47If they would have won by three, then, oh boy,
09:49there'd be a hundred questions today.
09:51This team was expected to dominate, and it did.
09:54Well, they were only favored by two and a half.
09:56And then second, it did mean something, Stony,
09:59because Thursday now, I know it's a long shot,
10:02but it would have been done.
10:03They would have been in their coffin if you don't beat the Bears.
10:06Right, but I'm with the latter.
10:08I'm with the latter in that this is a team that, like you said,
10:13they haven't won more than two games in a row all year.
10:15Facts.
10:16This team hasn't really beaten a big-time quality opponent.
10:19So, I'm not going to fall into a trap of thinking
10:24that because you beat the Bears 38-13,
10:27that this thing's still within reach.
10:31It's a long, long reach is what it's within.
10:35And you better keep winning,
10:39and then you better start scoreboard watching.
10:43They need a lot to happen.
10:45A lot.
10:46And the number is the number.
10:4916% chance to make the playoffs.
10:51I mean, I'm not.
10:53Think that goes up with a win Thursday?
10:55Sure, of course it does, but I'm not there at all.
11:01And, you know, they're going to have to win.
11:04Talk to me when they win three games in a row,
11:07which will mean they will have beaten the Rams this weekend,
11:10this Thursday, rather, and then they go to Miami and win.
11:13Okay.
11:14They got to do that,
11:15and then I think we can start talking about it at 8-7.
11:18And you're not the only one with this mindset,
11:20but just imagine if Kyle and the players were thinking that, Stony,
11:24they probably wouldn't have won 38-13.
11:27I believe what Kittle was saying,
11:29that you can't sit around and cry and say,
11:31boy, how did we get here, until it's official.
11:34So, all you can do is try to kick ass the rest of the games you have here,
11:39and they started that yesterday,
11:41and I'm lightweight excited because Thursday means something.
11:45The Rams are coming off a big, big win against Buffalo,
11:48and if you lose that, then it's done.
11:518-8-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-7-0 is the number.
11:5649ers did what they had to do.
11:58They got to do a lot more.
12:00This is George Kittle on Playing With Desperation,
12:03and what's going on inside that locker room right now?
12:06I think the message was,
12:08we need to play with more of a sense of urgency and play desperate,
12:13because you just haven't really sensed that.
12:15I've been on teams where it felt like,
12:18was it two years ago we won an 8-9 game win streak,
12:21whoever that was, and it literally felt like every play,
12:23people were just scratching, clawing, and fighting for everything.
12:26And I'm not going to call anybody out.
12:28We've all not taken a play off,
12:30but just not fought our hardest on every given play.
12:33That was the message, guys, just put it all out there,
12:36because we have the players, we have the playmakers,
12:39we have the play call, and we have everything to win games,
12:41but we have to do it out of desperation.
12:43When you're playing desperate and you're playing like,
12:45hey, if we don't win this game, our season potentially is over,
12:48that desperation fuels guys in different ways.
12:51It's just how you take that and how you channel that energy,
12:54and I thought our guys did a great job of that today.
12:56He's talking about the team talking amongst themselves on Saturday
13:00about getting this thing going if they can.
13:02They still don't feel like it's too late, and technically it's not,
13:06but boy, they haven't given themselves any wiggle room at all.
13:10Yeah, and you kind of wonder, just off Kittle's point, Stony,
13:13who's that on? It may be on everybody, the players, the coaches, staff,
13:17but why wasn't the desperation there on a Sunday night game
13:21against Buffalo and the week before?
13:23I know you didn't have Brock Purdy against the Packers,
13:25so they shot themselves in the foot.
13:29Nobody can deny that, but you've got to make the most of these next four.
13:33Well, the other thing is, I mean, if you want to really talk about
13:37what Kittle said and really get into it, I mean, to me,
13:40what he was talking about was a little bit of a Super Bowl hangover.
13:44He said, you know, it seemed like two years ago
13:48we had a nine-game winning streak.
13:50We were scratching and clawing every play, leaving it all out there,
13:54and then he said this year, you know, I'm not calling anybody out,
13:57but it doesn't seem like we've fought our hardest every single play.
14:02And I got news for you, and people can disagree with this if they want.
14:05If you're saying, you know, it just felt like this year we haven't fought
14:09our hardest on every single play, that's the players.
14:13That's not Kyle Shanahan. That's the players.
14:17And that's where, to my way of thinking, I don't say,
14:21well, they just knew they weren't playing hard.
14:23No, I think they thought they were playing as hard as they could,
14:26but when they compared it to last year's, they realized that maybe
14:29they aren't as hungry as they were in the past.
14:32And that's essentially what George Kittle is saying.
14:35Now, I've got doubts whether you can get hungry in the middle of a year,
14:39but I've got to give this team at least a little bit of the benefit of the doubt
14:44because of what they've done in the past.
14:46But, I mean, there you have it right there.
14:48I mean, he seems to be saying they haven't been playing as hard
14:51as they have in years past.
14:53And that'll get you to 6-7 rather than 9-5.
14:57And the rat on the table is you can be hungry all you want these next four,
15:00but the reality is you don't control when you eat.
15:04You've got to hope Seattle throws up.
15:07You've got to hope the Rams throw up or mess around with their food.
15:11So we'll see what are the ramifications in the offseason
15:16if the Niners somehow don't make the playoffs.
15:18But I know it's killing them right now, the fact that they're 6-7.
15:22They've earned that, right?
15:23But you don't control your own destiny.
15:25That's when you know you're really behind the eight ball.
15:27Let's go to Gene. Gene's in Oakland.
15:30What's going on, Gene? How you doing, man?
15:34I'm doing fine, guys.
15:36So, you know, I actually felt pretty good after that game.
15:41Let's keep in mind, guys, sure, it was the Bears and, you know,
15:46it was at home and the nice weather and all that.
15:49But they do have a good defense and, you know, let's face it,
15:54we're out so many, you know, outstanding players.
15:58Listen, three guys, just Trent Williams, Nick Bosa, and McCaffrey.
16:07Okay, those three guys alone.
16:09I mean, all three of them are arguably future Hall of Famers,
16:13and they didn't play.
16:14You know, we lost a yoke for the whole year.
16:17And even Fred Warner is compromised with his injury.
16:21So taking all that into account, the fact that we dominated, you know,
16:26granted a somewhat weak team, I thought was really – showed a lot of promise.
16:31Hey, Gene.
16:32And I also liked – yeah.
16:34Oh, I'm sorry, Gene. I'm interrupting you like Stiney.
16:37But could you understand how a Niner fan could be more frustrated,
16:40the fact that you did that that way yesterday,
16:43and the last two weeks prior you got ten points?
16:49No, I had no doubt.
16:50I'm frustrated too.
16:52Just like Shanann said, they should have been more like eight and two.
16:55You know, there were three games or four games that they should have won.
16:59But I'm thinking more, you know, of next year, you know,
17:03and what are the prospects for it.
17:06I love what Purdy did.
17:08I mean, you know, he showed his resilience.
17:11He showed his leadership qualities because apparently he
17:14and Lenore had a nice little locker room chat with everybody before the game,
17:19and that seemed to have had an effect.
17:22You know, I feel better about him getting paid now.
17:26And, you know, all these guys that have had injuries, we expect them back,
17:31and hopefully we have a much better – we have much better luck
17:35in terms of injuries next year.
17:37I could see us returning to the way we were last year next year,
17:42and that's really my focus at this point.
17:45Anything else is kind of a bonus.
17:47You know, if we somehow miraculously make the playoffs, that would be great,
17:51but I certainly don't expect it.
17:53Thanks, Gene.
17:54Appreciate it, man.
17:55Appreciate it as always.
17:57I mean, that's the other thing.
17:58I mean, and I don't know how you look at this,
18:01but they were playing yesterday without Bosa, Williams, McCaffrey,
18:06Jordan Mason, and can they go – you know, okay, what's going on with Bosa?
18:13Bosa and Williams, will they be ready by Thursday?
18:16I don't know.
18:17McCaffrey won't be ready.
18:18Mason won't be ready.
18:19So that's the other thing that would worry me a little bit
18:22is you're going to have to do this without obviously your number one running back
18:27and maybe Trent Williams and Nick Bosa also for at least another game or so.
18:34That feels like a heavy load to carry.
18:36You know, it's one thing to get hot when you start getting healthy,
18:40but this team's not healthy yet.
18:41Right.
18:42And so –
18:43But it worked yesterday, though.
18:44Look, they stink.
18:46The Bears stink.
18:47Yeah, they had lost six in a row coming in.
18:49I mean, you played the Packers two weeks ago and you got blown out of the building.
18:53So what if I –
18:54You played the Bills – that's what I'm saying.
18:56So what if the Niners stunk too, though, Scottie?
18:58You can point the finger at the Bears.
18:59They still would have won.
19:00They still would have won this game.
19:02I mean, that team confidence level wasn't that high coming in after those two losses
19:06or three in a row for the Niners.
19:08And I'll give you all that.
19:09They had to win it.
19:10They did what they had to do.
19:11Maybe they get a little bump from it confidence-wise.
19:14But let's not kid ourselves.
19:16The Bears had lost six games in a row.
19:19I get that, man.
19:20They fired their coach.
19:21And they also – I think, you know, this is where maybe looking inside,
19:26inside would have given us a little bit of an idea of what would have happened,
19:31and that is we should have known the Bears, after the three games they lost coming in,
19:38might be like, man, you know, we had chances all month.
19:45We let them slip away, and now we got to go to – they just got hammered.
19:49I mean, they just absolutely got hammered.
19:51Now, Greenlaw, reportedly, Scottie, and it's going to be a good moment if it does happen,
19:56he's coming back Thursday.
19:58I just bring that up because you had talked about the reinforcements.
20:01You're not going to get too healthy with the guys that outnumber Greenlaw who's out
20:06and won't be back, but, man, could you imagine if somehow you can –
20:10I can get the Dreamers, the Niner fans, if you get this win Thursday,
20:15then you can start really watching what's going on around you in your division
20:19and hoping like hell things break your way.
20:22So when you do play that last game against Arizona, Scottie, in some crazy way,
20:28it would mean something if you could win it.
20:31Yeah.
20:32That's all you can ask for now.
20:34But again, if you beat the Rams on Thursday and then Sunday the Seahawks beat the Packers,
20:42again, that's a lost weekend because you've got to make up ground at some point,
20:49and the only way you can make up ground is if some other teams give you hell.
20:52And that's the bed they made, Scottie.
20:54Exactly.
20:55And here's the other thing, and I'm especially feeling this way now about Greenlaw
21:00and seeing a lot of – not a lot, but seeing what happened to McCaffrey,
21:04and I'm not expecting –
21:07Who wants Taylor?
21:08I'm not expecting Dre Greenlaw to be Dre Greenlaw who was playing in the Super Bowl last year.
21:16And he hasn't played in a long time.
21:19Maybe it gives him a psychological boost, but just like when I –
21:23I thought McCaffrey was going to come back and make a difference.
21:26Well, we did.
21:27It didn't feel like he did.
21:28But what about emotionally, Scottie?
21:30Did McCaffrey give him an emotional boost?
21:32Well, they beat Tampa, but it was close.
21:36I would say I didn't really see it.
21:38Well, I'll say this.
21:39If that conversation, which our guy Gene mentioned, Saturday or whenever it took place,
21:45you know, guys getting up and talking, Scottie,
21:48if that really resonated and that might be the cure to the hangover,
21:53again, I don't expect Greenlaw to play all the snaps,
21:55but just him back emotionally, could that keep this team going?
22:03I get it.
22:04Like Willard hit me in the face last week when he goes,
22:07Goo, of all the people, the math is still there.
22:10But I'm like, you're playing bad.
22:12But now you're playing better.
22:14By the way, do you realize that I've worked with you for seven or eight years?
