00:00Tom and Rodeo. What's up, Todd? How you doing, man? I'm Tom. Sorry, Tom.
00:05Hey, guys. Hey, it's actually it's Carlos. All right. All right. Hey, long time listener.
00:12First time caller. Enjoy the show, you guys. I'm a big Lojo and Dibs fan. All right. I just
00:18wanted to call in and agree with you, Stiney. I don't think we've seen anything new last night.
00:22I think it was just confirmed last night. No doubt. You know what I mean? Yep. Everything
00:27is just they just the Rams just showed us who we really were. You know, the faithful just
00:31wanted to hang in there. And I don't know, the team, Belichick and Brady didn't win a
00:37Super Bowl every season. You know what I mean? But when they lost, they were still in it. And
00:42that's what I kind of want for my Niners. Right. I feel like they're kind of they're
00:48when the Niners lose, it looks really bad. And I think we're kind of we need some direction.
00:55I don't think getting rid of Shining Hands or Lynch, you know, I don't think that's needed.
01:00But I don't know. We need some kind of change. Maybe Shanahan reeling in a little bit for the
01:06guys. And I agree with that caller saying the guys are tired. I'm like emotionally tired and
01:12I never played on the field. You know what I mean? Even from last year. So I get the tiredness
01:18because, yeah, I don't know. It's hard to see. I'm a lifelong fan. But yeah, that's that's my
01:24two cents. Thanks. Thanks, Tom. Appreciate the call. You know what I thought about when Tom said
01:28that with Steve Young's comments about how last year was there, that was really they squandered
01:33a big opportunity. And I don't want to promote fear here, but standing on my bingo card and it
01:39happens naturally in sports. This has been a great run. I wonder if the run if this is the end of an
01:46era or the Niners, as we know it in regard to being Billy Badass and being ahead of everybody
01:52offensively and defensively. Stafford threw the ball 27 times last night with Bosa in the game,
01:57did get sacked once. Sometimes naturally you have to hit the reset and sometimes you don't know when
02:04to do it. But I'm wondering with you and McCaffrey and the question marks with just with their
02:10availability and now and Greenlaw, you know, and Bosa need help on the D-line and the O-line
02:17need help if offseason is enough to just to, you know, for you to find the remedy that all
02:24for all the problems that ail you. Debo Samuel obviously dropped a pass that looked like it
02:30could have gone to the end zone. Touchdown. The score was 3-3 midway through the third quarter.
02:37And, of course, Debo Samuel had complained on Twitter that he wasn't getting the ball enough.
02:42This is Debo Samuel on what happened. This is from last night and this is via KTVU.
02:50Very, very frustrating. At the end of the day, like, it's their ball.
02:55There's nothing there but the end zone and they just got to catch their opponent.
02:59What do you mean, no, you got the pass?
03:02Just like, like, seeing the moment. Came across the middle and seen nothing but the end zone at the end of the day.
03:08Like, got the ball in, go score. How much did weather impact you guys in that first half?
03:14Um, we got here was kind of expecting the rain. That's why I caught a lot of guys with studs, but
03:20um, didn't really impact too much. Um, you know, we like to run the ball. This is what we do,
03:24um, but it kind of limited, you know, what we can do in the passing game a little bit.
03:28Were the Rams doing anything in particular that was stopping the runs at all?
03:32Um, no, I don't think so.
03:36On that drop, your reaction, is that probably the pinnacle of your frustration this season?
03:41I was more frustrated than anything that I even dropped the rock.
03:46I mean, how, how nice was the ball that pretty easy?
03:48Pretty good ball.
03:50Were you happy with the game plan and how they were trying to get you involved tonight?
03:55Um, yeah, um, they like, you know, um, they come out with the win. So, um,
04:01no, we just gotta be better.
04:04I said George talking to you in the locker room. Was he just giving words of encouragement?
04:08Um, you know, at the end of the day, like, you know, George is George. He came over. He's like,
04:11man, I didn't see you make that play a million times. Don't let it eat you up. But I feel like,
04:15um, I made that play. I think we win the game.
04:18All right. That's Thibault Samuel from last night.
04:21You can make that case.
04:22They didn't ask him about the Boo Birds. And I wonder if he got booed
04:26and people booed Steiner because of what he did leading up to the game.
04:29You think?
04:30No doubt.
04:31I think that was certainly a part of it. Although you could be, you know,
04:35even if he doesn't send that tweet and he drops that ball.
04:37I wonder.
04:38It's just the culmination of a, of a real subpar season for him anyway.
04:42The fact that he complained on Twitter just adds another level to it. But
04:47the reality of the situation is he's another one that didn't have a good year.
04:50If you told me Iuke wasn't injured, I'd really believe
04:54these would probably be the last three games of Thibault's career.
04:57But now that nobody knows what's going on with Iuke, and I mean,
05:00he's got a lot going on, Stiney, with that injury. I wonder if that keeps him in town.
05:07Not sure. Let's go out to Alex in Atlanta. We just talked about,
05:11we just heard from Thibault Samuel on the drop pass. That's what Alex wants to talk about.
05:15What's up, Alex? How you doing, man?
05:18Uh, well, gentlemen, I'd be lying to you if I told you I wasn't feeling very deflated this
05:22morning, but look, I mean, that, that Thibault Samuel drop was kind of a perfect metaphor for
05:27the 49ers season this year, because I think across the board, you can point to a lot of
05:31guys this season and even leading up to this season who dropped the ball. I mean,
05:35with Brandon Iuke going out, Thibault Samuel had an opportunity to really establish himself
05:40as a guy who can be a number one wide receiver in this league and he's had a subpar season.
05:44So he's dropped the ball on that front. I think Brock Purdy had an opportunity,
05:49not only last night, but throughout this year to show that, hey, even when he's missing,
05:54you know, offensive weapons, he can be, you know, an elite quarterback in this league.
05:59And he dropped the ball throughout the year. Kyle Shanahan, when it came to game planning
06:04last night, I mean, George Kittle, Jawan Jennings, they both looked like they were,
06:08they were having good games to start that game. And Kyle Shanahan kept trying to force feed the
06:13ball to Thibault and that clearly wasn't working. So he dropped the ball on that front.
06:17So I think, you know, I agree with one of your earlier callers that this is a good opportunity
06:22for the Niners to really do a lot of evaluation, re-evaluation of certain pieces they have right
06:29now, get rest. I would, I would shut down the majority of the starters for the rest of the
06:33year if possible. I don't, I don't think you need to risk injury to anyone major at this point.
06:38So, you know, rest Purdy, rest Kittle, rest Bozo, rest Williams, and really go into this
06:43offseason trying to address a lot of the shortcomings on this team. And, you know,
06:48maybe talk to Kyle Shanahan about reining him in and maybe taking some play calling duties off his
06:52plate. Maybe. Yeah. Thanks for the call. Appreciate it, Alex. Thank you. It was well said. Well said.
07:00Like the, as it relates to Shanahan, if he deserves as much criticism as every, as anybody, he does.
07:08But my question is, okay, so what do you do? Like, if you're going to hold the players accountable
07:12and you need to hold the coach accountable, like what does that look like outside of firing him?
07:17Do you ask him to, can you ask him to go about things differently? I mean, I, we had Acho on
07:22GUI said schematically Shanahan's got to do more. Well, I, I got to believe he can, like he's,
07:28that's within something that he can control. It's getting concerning that we're down the road
07:32and we haven't seen it. Now, last week there was some different stuff that he dialed up,
07:37screens to kettle, but moving forward, that's why I thought there was a button study. I thought
07:41he could also go into lab and, and, and kind of change this or tweak it. But the bottom line is,
07:47if we're going to come down Brock Purdy's road, how much of is this, how much blood is on Kyle's
07:54hand for maybe not putting Brock in this whole offense in a better situation. Maybe this is,
07:59maybe Debo's not done. Maybe this is a by-product of Kyle not adapting. Well, I don't believe that
08:05as it, as it relates solely to Debo. Well, you got a major decision coming up with him then.
08:12The, um, I just made a note of it. There's, I got three players listed here, George Kittle,
08:18Juwan Jennings, and, uh, Diamador Lenore. Okay. They had the best seasons of any Niner. No other,
08:26no other player had a good year. No other player had a good year. Poonie had a good rookie year.
08:32Hey Garindo. Yeah. Well, when you called on him. Whatever. Didn't impact winning or losing.
08:38I'm not mad at the list, but just think about what you just said. There's 22 positions.
08:42Exactly. And you named three. Exactly. I mean, let's look. What about Moody?
08:46No, he didn't have a good year. Oh my God. McCaffrey. Ayuk. Pearsall. Debo. Bosa. Warner.
08:59Warner. Now they just didn't, they just played. I don't know if it's below their standard anymore.
09:09And that was below their standard from last year, but maybe this is who they are.
09:15Uh, let's go to Caleb. Caleb's in Livermore. Hey, uh, Hey Caleb, how you doing?
09:24I'm doing good guys. How's it going over there? Doing well.
09:27All right. Great deal. So I got, I just got a quick question. I want to ask you guys.
09:32I know there's a lot of questions on the futures of D.O. Samuel and Trent Williams,
09:37Ward and all these guys. I want to say, do you feel like the most disappointing is do you feel
09:45like the, the, the way it ended with Harbaugh and them not winning a championship is more
09:49disappointing or this core of Niner players not being able to win a Superbowl. That's all I got.
09:57Yeah. Good question. Well, I got my answer is this one. Cause they had two opportunities.
10:02John had one. Yeah. I mean, what I, what I also remember is the 49ers were seven and four
10:08Harbaugh's last year and they ended up eight and eight. So they lost four out of their last five
10:11games. So that told me that they were a team that was on the decline. Uh, if the playoffs would
10:17have happened, which they didn't. So, I mean, this year was way more of a disappointment from the
10:22start of the season than that year. I mean, this year was, Oh my God. Yeah. And I was listening to
10:29the terrible year. No doubt that season of hail, the season from hail. Now I was listening to the
10:35guys in the morning by themselves and they'd brought up a body had brought up that Brock
10:39currently is playing the worst football out of all the quarterbacks in his own division.
10:43But I chose said how many times when you're going to battle Stiney, cause you always tell me guru,
10:48they got my homes. I, again, I thought Purdy superseded a lot of quarterbacks,
10:53but when you're talking about winning the, the, the top tier quarterbacks, the way he's playing
10:58right now or this season, and I know, I know the other two were better than this one. Stiney,
11:03how many times is Brock Purdy going to be better than the quarterback he's facing when it's,
11:08when, when, when it's, you know, a playoff type of game like that changed for me and I'm dealing
11:14with that and I can admit it. I backed up the truck, but I know it was drizzling or it was
11:18raining last night, but conditions, I mean, he was off. Yes, sir. The whole team's been off
11:28from week one to week 15. They never got anything going and we never,
11:38never played one good quarter against the Cowboys. They never put a full game together.
11:46Well, they went up 20 on Seattle on that Thursday night when we were at the Miranda.
11:51We can focus on the high points, but I think we all know we'd be kidding ourselves.
11:578, 8, 8, 9, 5, 7, 9, 5, 7, 0 is the number. Niners all but eliminated. I think I saw they
12:06have a 0.1% chance. Well, let's go one 10th, one 10th of 1%. That should just be zero.
12:18It gives you the opportunity to say the math is still there. I'm not. Okay. Yeah. And now
12:24looking back, we realize now looking back, we realize the math was never there.
