00:00What is sunny, when it's raining?
00:03You gotta go live.
00:05Now, back to Stiney and Guru on 95-7 The Game.
00:09Alright, Niners-Packers, 125, Lambeau Field.
00:14I am ready to go.
00:16Season on the brink.
00:17It just is.
00:18You better be, Deebo.
00:20The season is on the brink.
00:23We have Cam Inman on here and there on 95-7 The Game.
00:27He's covered the 49ers for 20-plus years, and he said something yesterday, or two days
00:35ago, that I can't get out of my head.
00:38And it's this.
00:39This might be the most underachieving team I've covered of the Niners in 25 years.
00:46They should be finishing these games.
00:48They have better roster than the other teams, but they just aren't a better team.
00:52And it's not just one guy you can point to and say, get him out of the lineup, or one
00:56coach say, this guy's screwing up.
00:57It seems like every game there's something different.
00:59And you know, for, gosh, a stretch there, what, nine games, it was like every game there
01:03was a special team mistake.
01:05But it wasn't the same guy making the mistake.
01:07And then you compound that with penalties and injuries, and those are hallmarks of bad
01:11teams.
01:12All right.
01:13So, first of all, do you agree with Cam Inman?
01:17I didn't hear, well, I've never seen a team as injury-ravaged as this one in my 25 years.
01:25He didn't say that.
01:26He didn't say, I've never seen an offense sputter this big.
01:31He said, this team is one of the most underachieving teams that I've watched in my 25 years.
01:38And so my question is, well, if this is the way the season plays out, and they don't make
01:43the playoffs, and they're an underachieving team, then what do you do if you're the San
01:49Francisco 49ers?
01:50Well, what are my options?
01:51What can you do?
01:52Well, you've got a decision to make it quarterback, clearly, and my question, and that's the
02:01big one.
02:02Or do you just get healthy?
02:03Yeah, I'm out on that, because if this team is getting up there in age, and they got hurt
02:10this year, I am not saying, well, everything will be fine next year.
02:14Like, if Trent Williams is not Trent Williams is not going to be better next year than he
02:20is this year.
02:22And he's not as good this year as he was last year.
02:25So what does that do for their window?
02:27It means, if they don't make the playoffs this year, it's decision time with, I think,
02:32a lot of these players.
02:36As far as it goes to Purdy, alright, I want people to try to think about the way they
02:41thought about Brock Purdy coming into this season.
02:45And everybody was pretty high on him.
02:49I think Brock Purdy had won over a lot of players and fans.
02:55But my question is, right now, with Brock Purdy, are you more convinced he's the guy?
03:03Are you less convinced that he's the guy?
03:05Or do you feel the same way about him that you did in the beginning of the year, and
03:10you're taking into consideration that there's been a lot going on around him?
03:14I don't know the answer to that question.
03:17But I think, for me, if I were to answer it, yes, I'm a little less sure of Brock Purdy
03:23right now than I was before the season.
03:26I just am.
03:27I'm with you.
03:28I'm in that same line.
03:29But at the end of the day, if somehow he says, you can have me for less than 60, something
03:35reasonable, then we can see him come back.
03:38But if he does the cominga and says, no, this is what I'm worth, I want to reset the market,
03:43I've been to a Super Bowl, I've been to an NFC Championship game, there was a lot of
03:47stuff going on, starting with the offseason, then damn, Steinie, that's like a heart transplant
03:56if you change the quarterback.
03:59And I think of the sound from Steve Young about their best opportunity.
04:06I'm double-backing.
04:07I'm taking two steps back.
04:08I thought it was a blank check, and I can tell you right now, I'm unsure of Brock Purdy
04:15and how much he is a part of this offense maybe just not looking like his normal self.
04:218-8-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-7-0 is the number, 49er fans, it feels like there's so much on the
04:28table for this game.
04:31It's not just a game.
04:33It's a game that feels like it's going to dictate where they go the rest of the year.
04:37And I know that's a little bit of an overstatement, but let's be honest, if this team's 5-6 and
04:42they're headed up to Buffalo to play the Buffalo Bills off a bye week, I mean, they're in trouble.
04:49I think we can all acknowledge that.
04:51And you know what?
04:52And I'll put rats on the table, I'll put rats on the table.
04:57If this team underachieves, do you look for another quarterback?
05:03And I'll tell you right now, we had Matt Barrows on yesterday.
05:06I didn't tell him to talk about Aaron Rodgers.
05:10He brought up Aaron Rodgers.
05:12Aaron Rodgers wants to play next year.
05:14It probably won't be for the Jets.
05:16Sam Darnold's going to...
05:17Sam Darnold, free agent.
05:19Kirk Cousins.
05:20Kirk Cousins.
05:21They have a rookie quarterback who might be ready to take over.
05:24Could you imagine?
05:25Yes, I can imagine.
05:26And you've been consistent with that even during the offseason, before this season started.
05:30Stoney, I got some, we talk about victory lap, Evan's going to help me out, I got some
05:34surprise sound I want you to hear.
05:37And this dude, once you hear this sound, I scoffed at this.
05:41You and Evan have brought it up at different junctures this season, but let's just look
05:45at it through the prism of somehow they go 8-9 or 10-7 and they missed the playoffs.
05:51Play it for them, Ev.
05:52I think for the past 5-10 years, we've got so accustomed to the San Francisco 49ers walking
05:57around, not only the NFC West, but the NFL in general, as these big bullies.
06:03You watch Trent Williams and Debo Samuel coming out of the locker room with that bump box
06:06and you watch them get into that scuffle in the pregame and you watch their dominant defense
06:12and their run game.
06:13We got so accustomed to that.
06:14I flipped on the TV and watched their past two preseason games when their starters played
06:19and I just see an emotionally drained team.
06:22That was pre, I'm not saying he's right, but he said he saw something in preseason.
06:29Now I'm like, I feel like some chickens got the possibility to come home to roost after
06:34hearing that.
06:35No, I mean, it's a fair statement.
06:38And to me, that equates to what we call a Super Bowl hangover.
06:42They've gone deep.
06:45Even when Willard and Dibbs had Steve Kerr on, and they have Steve Kerr on every week,
06:52they asked Steve Kerr a little bit about the Niners and he didn't want to speak specifically
06:56to the Niners, but he talked about the Warriors and their long runs and how exhausting it
07:01was.
07:02Maybe this team's out of gas.
07:05Maybe they just don't have enough anymore and in football, particularly, if you're not
07:12playing at your peak, you're probably, look at last night, look at last night, the Browns
07:17can beat the Pittsburgh Steelers.
07:19Like the Browns are two and eight.
07:21Hell, if they were a basketball team, nobody would have played last night because there
07:25wouldn't have been anything at stake.
07:26But it's football, and these guys play if they're ready to play.
07:30So I don't know, I'm just wondering how 49er fans are approaching this game, knowing that
07:37it probably is more important than just the 11th game of the year because they don't want
07:44to go under 500.
07:46And if the timing is just of a lot of things going on, and Purdy's one of them, but you're
07:51telling me, Stoney, he takes you on the fly to the NFC Championship game, follows that
07:57back up with the Super Bowl, and then somehow if they miss, then he doesn't get the benefit
08:03of the doubt to come back, like there could be a change, like that would be drastic.
08:08From the 510 on the Comcast Business Text Line, no, no, no.
08:13You guys already crowned Purdy as a top five quarterback in the league.
08:17Now everybody's starting to backpedal, LMAO.
08:21Well, we're not backpedaling, we're...
08:24Well, we might be.
08:26Well, no!
08:28You're coming off blank check.
08:31All that matters is what they deem Purdy.
08:34Is there regression, or is there reasons for what we deem regression?
08:40Maybe there's both.
08:42Maybe he's regressed.
08:44But if it's gonna cost me my tenure, and you're gonna go look for other dates, then you didn't
08:50marry me.
08:51Well, we didn't have to marry you a year ago.
08:54We have to marry you this summer, perhaps.
08:57And maybe things changed.
08:59You calling off the wedding?
09:03It's on hold.
09:04Did you get the ring?
09:06I don't know.
09:08I'm not sure.
09:09You can take it back.
09:10They might not have gotten the ring, but they certainly were shopping.
09:14They've browsed around, they've sniffed around, they like that eight-carat, the 12-carat's
09:19pretty nice.
09:20They're thinking about it, but I don't know.
09:24Well, let's do this.
09:26Let's say you're Brock Purdy's dad, or his best friend, would you kind of say, dude,
09:31you need to get that shot at Toradol.
09:34You cannot not go out there with everything that Steini, Gu, and Niner fans are saying
09:39about the possibility of the future.
09:42Brock, you gotta go out there and play.
09:44No, that's not where I'm at.
09:48If he can't play, he can't play.
09:51And that, to me, is separate from everything we've talked about in terms of will he get
09:55paid, won't he get paid.
09:56If he misses one game, I don't think it's a big deal.
10:00What if Brandon Allen plays and they score 30 and they look great?
10:03What are we talking about Monday?
10:05No, I'm just throwing that out there like, okay, great job, you stepped in, you did a
10:10great job, it's back to Brock.
10:13I don't know.
10:14I don't know.
10:15It's all on the table, it feels like.
10:16Let's go to Michael in L'Amour.
10:18L'Amour, hello, Neil.
10:20What's up, Michael?
10:21How you doing, man?
10:22Good.
10:23How are you guys doing?
10:24Doing well, thanks.
10:25Yeah, so, Steini, Gu, there's zero significance of this game coming up on Sunday.
10:31Let's just accept reality and the fact that this team is not a playoff team, nor is it
10:35a Super Bowl team, contender team anymore.
10:39The window closed last year, and if we're going into the 2025 season questioning whether
10:45or not if we should pay Brock Purdy, and we're having reservations about him now, then all
10:50options are on the table, and Chad York, if you're listening, that includes firing Kyle
10:54Shannon and John Lynch, because we're going into year eight, and how many quarterbacks
10:58have we been through with this regime?
11:01About five.
11:02That's a fireball offense, and you grossly neglected not even drafting a quarterback
11:07in 2017 when he first came here, and you selected Solomon Thomas because you quote-unquote went
11:12to class with him at Stanford, and you passed on scouring Patrick Mahomes, which comes back
11:17to haunt us every year that we play him, and you're now questioning whether or not you're
11:23going to be paying Brock Purdy $50-55 million in my book.
11:27He's not worth it.
11:29Oh, because that's what I wanted to ask you, so you don't think you can pay Purdy $50-55
11:35million?
11:36Quarterback?
11:37No.
11:38Why not?
11:39Do you look at Patrick Mahomes, look at Josh Allen, look at Lamar Jackson, those are $60
11:45million quarterbacks right there.
