00:03An old Chesterfield pub, which was twice the target of rescue campaigns, is now poised to be converted into a gym.
00:10Borough Council planners have approved Ben Actar's application for full planning permission to change the use of the Wellington on High Street, New Whittington.
00:19Mr Actar is proposing a large gym area, a specialist wellness and mental health support room, which will be staffed by nine employees.
00:27The pub ceased trading in 2021 due to financial losses.
00:31A report to the council said that the property had been marketed for sale since July 2023, but despite adequate exposure to the market and realistic pricing, there had been no viable interest expressed in continuing its operation as a pub.
00:45The Wellington is listed as an asset of community value, a designation which expires in December 2024.
00:52Campaign group the Friends of the Wellington expressed an interest in securing the pub on a potential community ownership scheme, but said last year this was not possible without more support or funding.
01:04Bus services connecting Chesterfield, Matlock and Sheffield with a popular family attraction have been temporarily suspended by bus firm Stagecoach.
01:12Matlock Farm Park, located on Jaggers Lane near Matlock, has confirmed that Stagecoach has temporarily stopped its X17 service from calling at the park.
01:21A spokesperson said, unfortunately Stagecoach's X17 diverted route to Matlock Farm Park has been suspended from Thursday December 19th due to tree branches overhanging part of the route on Wyreston Lane.
01:34The X17 Barnsley, Sheffield, Chesterfield, Matlock service will continue on its usual route instead via Calstage.
01:41The park spokesperson added, we understand the council has been notified, so hopefully the new bus route will retain again in the new year.
