01 February - national forecast presented by Tom Morgan.

00:00Good morning. It's somewhat of a north-west-south-east split in the weather as we go through this
00:04weekend. So, we've got high pressure dominating central parts of Europe and that is influencing
00:08the weather across the south and the east of the UK. But if you notice towards the north
00:12and the west, we've got these weather fronts moving in at times and that will bring generally
00:16a wetter and windier period of weather. And particularly by Monday, the ice bars do tighten
00:20together quite widely, so a windier day is in store.
00:24But back to this morning and it's a murky start across many eastern, central and southern
00:28parts of England especially, with some mist and low cloud over the hills. And across the
00:33north and the west, it's also quite cloudy as well. So, Northern Ireland, western parts
00:37of Scotland will see some outbreaks of rain at times and here it will be windy, especially
00:41so across the north-west of Scotland with some severe gales for the Outer Hebrides.
00:45But you'll notice there's also this corridor of much sunnier conditions stretching from
00:49northern England through Wales and into the south-west. So, once we lose any freezing
00:54fog patches first thing this morning, it will be a fine day for many with some sunny
00:57spells. It should also brighten up across the very far south-east of England as well,
01:02so some sunshine to come this afternoon here. In terms of our temperatures today, so very
01:06similar to average for the time of year, 6 or 7 degrees perhaps at best across these
01:12cloudier parts of central and eastern England. So, a little bit chilly where that cloud doesn't
01:16clear. But 9 or 10 out towards the west is relatively mild for the time of year.
01:21So, through this evening and overnight, that band of rain does start to push in further
01:25towards western parts of Scotland, so turning very wet and windy here. Some heavier bursts
01:29of rain also pushing through into Northern Ireland. Some outbreaks of rain ahead of that
01:33as well, but generally fairly light and patchy. And down across more southern and eastern
01:38parts of England, here it will stay dry, but that cloud will act like a blanket of cloud
01:42tonight. So, I think frost generally by the end of the night will be fairly limited and
01:46more confined towards the very far south-east of the UK, where we could see minus 2 or minus
01:523 in the countryside, but generally temperatures holding up several degrees above freezing.
01:56So, a wet and windy start to the day tomorrow, particularly across the north and the west.
02:02Outbreaks of rain at times persistent over the hills, but as we go through the course
02:05of tomorrow, that rain will become a bit more intermittent and generally light. So, some
02:09brightness developing for north-western parts of Scotland, some sunshine for Northern Ireland
02:13as well, and generally fairly dry here by the afternoon with the odd shower. But the
02:18best of the weather, the best of the sunshine on Sunday will be down across the south-east
02:22of the UK. So, East Anglia and the south-east seeing plenty of sunshine, and once again
02:26temperatures ranging around average for the time of year. Most places 7, 8 or 9 degrees.
