04:50Ecuador is in its final week of electoral campaigning ahead of the general elections
05:18on February 9th, 2025.
05:21The 16 candidates for the presidential seat have intensified their campaign activities
05:27with the aim of attracting more voters throughout the country.
05:30For the moment, the candidate for Citizens' Revolution, Luisa González, and the current
05:34president, Daniel Loboa, lead the polls with a slight difference, which points to a possible
05:39ballot touch.
05:40For its part, the National Electoral Council detailed that the electoral packages abroad
05:44were distributed in regions such as Europe, Oceania and Asia.
05:48It also confirmed that some 100,000 security personnel will be deployed to guard the country's
05:55polling stations.
05:58Meanwhile, the Ecuadorian president, Daniel Loboa, announced on Monday the militarization
06:04of ports and borders, with the justification of preventing destabilization attempts of
06:09armed groups.
06:10The measure will be enforced from Saturday, February 8th, to Monday, February 10th, which
06:14implies that the presidential elections will take place on February 9th under this presidential
06:18measure.
06:19For its part, the Constitutional Court declared unconstitutional on Monday the executive decrees,
06:24with which Cynthia Gilbert was entrusted with the presidency.
06:29All in a context where 21 victims of forced disappearances in the hands of Ecuadorian
06:33armed forces have been reported, without the president having made any statement on the
06:38matter.
06:43The United States and El Salvador announced on Monday the start of a controversial immigration
06:47agreement that they call unprecedented.
06:50The U.S. Secretary of State, Marcos Rubio, met with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele
06:54on Monday.
06:55After a meeting, he said that El Salvador agreed to take in any Ecuador migrants from
06:59the United States, and also offered to house dangerous U.S. criminals in its prisons.
07:04Bukele affirmed that the new agreement with the U.S. constitutes a unique case.
07:08He said that this is a much larger agreement that is unprecedented in the history of relations
07:13not only between the U.S. and El Salvador, but with all of Latin America.
07:18The president, in an act of extraordinary friendship to our country, knowing the challenges
07:27we face in the U.S., has agreed to the most unprecedented and extraordinary migratory
07:34agreement anywhere in the world.
07:37First obviously he continues with full cooperation on the returning of Salvadorans who find themselves
07:42illegally in the United States and welcome them back home, and that's already existing
07:46and that will continue.
07:48But second, he has agreed to accept for deportation any illegal alien in the United States who
07:56is a criminal from any nationality, be they MS-13 or Tlindaragua, and house them in his
08:01jails.
08:02Third, he has offered to house in his jails dangerous American criminals in custody in
08:12our country, including those of U.S. citizenship and legal residence.
08:17No country has ever made an offer of friendship such as this.
08:21And on Monday, the Haitian National Police, together with the Haitian Army, continued
08:25operations against gang members in the community of Kenscoff after 10 days of clashes.
08:30According to local media, despite the efforts of the police, the gangsters managed to move
08:34into the center of Kenscoff.
08:35The community authorities ordered police and military officers to remain deployed in the
08:39territory and urged them to reinforce measures against the gangsters.
08:43For his part, the commander-in-chief of the Haitian police, Ramon Normiel, has held meetings
08:48in recent days with specialists to discuss new strategies to put an end to the violence
08:52in the region.
08:55Let's take a look at the number of victims so far of the violence in the Caribbean country.
09:03According to information verified by the United Nations Office for Human Rights during the
09:07year 2024, 5,601 died as a result of attacks by criminal groups.
09:14Also 2,212 people were wounded, while 1,494 were kidnapped.
09:21In this regard, the International Organization for Migration reported that in just one year,
09:25the number of displaced people has tripled to 1.41 million people, more than half of
09:31whom are children.
09:49In Australia, heavy flooding caused devastation in communities in northern Queensland, the
09:53state premier said.
09:55Emergency crews carried out rescue operations during the floods, where heavy rains claimed
10:00the life of a woman, flooded homes, and caused widespread damage.
10:04Thousands of residents who were evacuated have returned to their homes, but are unaware
10:08of the condition of homes and businesses due to flooding and power outages caused by heavy
10:12rains.
10:13The prime minister, David Crisafulli, notified that some regions were hit by almost two meters
10:18of rain.
10:19However, he clarified that the weather conditions were mild in the last hours.
10:29The Japanese island of Hokkaido received a record amount of snow in the last hours
10:33due to a low-pressure system that threatens the Japanese coast.
10:37Japan's Meteorological Agency reported that the coldest front of the season is advancing
10:42towards territory.
10:44A low-pressure system is still in motion and has caused the appearance of snow clouds in
10:49the Pacific coastal areas of Hokkaido and threatens with blizzards in large areas of
10:54the coast of the Sea of Japan.
10:56About a meter of snow is estimated to fall in some areas of Hokuriku in 24 hours to Wednesday
11:01morning, with the possibility of heavy snowfall in the southwest and west of the archipelago,
11:06where it seldom snows.
11:08This cold front is expected to last about a week.

11:58A Palestinian combatant from the resistance movement hit to death two Israeli soldiers
12:02and injured six others in response to the genocidal offensive mounted by the Zionist
12:06forces on the northern occupied West Bank.
12:10Local media reported the clash broke out on Tuesday morning near the Tayaseer checkpoint
12:15eastern Toba City.
12:16Sources detailed that the Palestinian combatant barricaded himself inside a watchtower at
12:20the checkpoint to wait for the right time to open fire in which he was killed.
12:25Afterward, Israeli authorities ordered the closure of nearby roads and the dispatch of
12:29helicopters to transport the injured to hospitals.
12:37And the Israeli siege against the city of Jenin continues for the 15th consecutive day,
12:41leaving at least 25 people killed to date.
12:44Zionist forces blew up some 20 residential buildings in the eastern part of the Jenin
12:49camp in the occupied West Bank.
12:51Local authorities denounced that Tel Aviv is carrying out a campaign of forced displacement
12:55which affects some 15,000 Palestinians.
12:58Authorities also warned that the occupation troops have no respect for international human
13:02general law since their attacks also targeted health centers and members of the press who
13:06were covering the news.
13:13And the Israeli occupation forces remain deployed at the Rafah border crossing to prevent the
13:18return of Palestinian citizens to the Gaza Strip.
13:20According to local authorities, Israel is not only preventing the return of citizens
13:24of Gaza to their homes, but is also blocking the departure of the wounded to medical centers
13:30and hospitals abroad where they would receive medical treatment.
13:33The restrictions of movement of the Palestinian population constitutes a violation of the
13:38ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas,
13:42which entered into force on January 19th.
13:51And several Middle Eastern governments reject the U.S. President's proposal to relocate
13:56Palestinians from Gaza to neighboring countries.
13:59Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Iran, Egypt and Jordan condemn what they describe
14:04as an ethnic cleansing plan.
14:07In response to Trump's statements, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said that the
14:11transfer of Palestinians out of their territory is not the solution, and the establishment
14:16of a pre-Palestinian state, recognized throughout the world, must be promoted.
14:20For his part, Jordan's foreign minister Ayman Zafadi stated that his country's stance against
14:26Trump's plans would remain firm and unwavering.
14:34And in South Korea, a constitutional court held a briefing as part of the ongoing impeachment
14:38trial against President Jun Suk-yeol.
14:41President Jun arrived at the court in a prison truck escorted by guard vehicles after being
14:45incarcerated in a detention center in Seoul since officers arrested him in January.
14:50The constitutional court is currently deliberating on his formal removal or reinstatement, a
14:55process that could take up to 180 days.
14:58Prosecutors indicated that he ousted Palestinian rebellion charges in connection with his imposition
15:04of a short-lived martial law passed December 3.
15:30In the United States, protests over recent raids and deportations carried out by immigration
15:34enforcement services continued in Los Angeles, where demonstrators joined a national day
15:39of action.
15:40During the demonstrations, participants waved flags of several countries and carried signs
15:45demanding respect for the rights of immigrants.
15:48The protest is part of the so-called Day Without Immigrants, with the aim of making visible
15:54the struggle for immigration justice.
15:57Demonstrators gather at Los Angeles City Hall and schedule more activities throughout
16:01the day, including strikes and business closures in support of the cause.
16:05Demonstration takes place in a context of growing concern over the immigration policies
16:09of the Donald Trump administration, who has intensified raids and deportations in several
16:14cities across the country.
16:17In an exclusive interview for our news multi-platform, Telesur, Raul Antonio Capote, Cuban journalist
16:26of the Grandman newspaper, highlighted that the President of the United States, Donald
16:29Trump, used the USAID to finance terrorist projects of the Venezuelan opposition.
16:40Remember that during his first administration Trump used the USAID, he financed the USAID,
16:47all the things that were done against Venezuela in those years were done with USAID funds.
16:53In other words, everything that was prepared against the Maduro government at that time
16:57came out of the pockets of the USAID.
17:00Now it is uncomfortable for him to use that organization which is also in tremendous disrepute
17:05today, because it has also been linked to extremely corrupt elements of the Venezuelan
17:10opposition.
17:11USAID was the one that financed the entire Guaido project and everything that happened
17:16in those years, and has responsibility in many acts of corruption to which all these
17:21lords of the Venezuelan opposition are linked.
17:26The Chinese government announced Tuesday that it will impose tariffs of 10 to 15 percent
17:30on certain U.S. products beginning February 10, in response to the 10 percent tariffs
17:34on Chinese goods imposed by President Donald Trump.
17:37According to a statement issued by the Chinese Executive Customs Commission, Beijing will
17:41apply a 15 percent tariff on coal and liquefied natural gas products and a 10 percent tariff
17:46on crude oil, agricultural machinery, large cars and pickup trucks.
17:51The same document adds that in the case of imported goods originated in the States, the
17:56corresponding duties will be applied based on the tariffs rates in force.
18:00Finally, the Chinese government filed a complaint against the United States before the World
18:04Trade Organization for violating the rules established by the agency.
