00:20the NBA trade deadline week, which Max to me, probably the best one I've seen in my

00:29I hope everyone has some fun plans ahead.

00:31I mean, whether you watch the game or not, whether you're into football or not, it's

00:34still a little bit around these parts, no matter where you are around the US.

00:37So do a little bit of a little talk at the end of this.

00:40Then we also do big deal or no big deal.

00:42I can't imagine a better episode to do this, Max, after the kind of week we saw in the

00:47NBA with all these trades going around associations left and right.

00:51But first thing, let's go back to what we talked about last episode.

00:54That, of course, is the biggest, still the biggest trade, if you ask me, that went down

00:57this week.

00:58It started Saturday night around midnight as Luka Doncic is going to the Lakers.

01:04Anthony Davis going to Dallas, a bunch of other pieces in there.

01:07But those are the two that everyone is talking about.

01:10Neither one has had their debut for their respective teams.

01:13But Luka Doncic is saying all the right things at the press conference, talking about learning

01:17from LeBron James.

01:18Max, what do you buy into that as he begins his Lakers tenure, which I believe will start

01:23this weekend?

01:24Well, I think that, you know, he's going to come out and he wants to play well.

01:30We'll see if he plays right away.

01:32But what else is he going to do?

01:34I mean, he was blindsided.

01:36He was a was the last time he had to sit down in this league, did not know anything till

01:41it was done.

01:42I mean, a real bonafide superstar in this league, you know, all NBA, you know, many

01:50years and several years and, you know, was pretty much going to be the face of the NBA

01:55and Dallas decided to pull the ripcord.

01:59That to me is absolutely amazing.

02:01And on top of it, nobody knew about it.

02:06Everybody was everybody was shocked.

02:08But I think that, you know, the reality is now I saw Anthony Davis on the bench against

02:14the Celtics and Kyrie Irving was handling things, moving the basketball around.

02:19They got a lot of people involved, beat the Celtics handily in Boston and is just and

02:27then, you know, just moving a little bit sideways.

02:30I look at the Celtics right now, the way they play, they play down to the level of the competition.

02:35If you don't have your star player there, Celtics will play down to that level.

02:40And that's something they're going to desperately have to improve upon.

02:43You know, I like how you bring up the fact that, you know, Luca was blindsided because

02:48you could feel it in that press conference, man.

02:50Like, obviously, he's looking forward to the future, but he's still like his head still

02:53spinning as to what happened in Dallas.

02:55And for you to mention exactly what I was thinking in the sense of they did it so quickly,

02:59they could have easily seen what was around the league.

03:02Nico could have made his phone calls, but he wasn't trying to get this out there.

03:05I feel like he didn't want it.

03:07He wasn't trying to he didn't want that smoke.

03:09He didn't want that pressure.

03:10Are you really about to trade Luca Dodgers?

03:13He didn't want to hear any rumors out there, or he didn't want no reports to go out before

03:17he made that.

03:18He wanted a player.

03:20He targeted that player and went to that team and got that player.

03:26He got one of the best players right now in the NBA.

03:29But is that smart, Max?

03:30You could have called around.

03:32You could have seen.

03:32I'm sure there was a lot of teams that would have said, hey, you want our superstar?

03:36We could work something out.

03:38This is Luca Dodgers we're talking about.

03:39OK, let me see.

03:40Who are you thinking about right now?

03:43Who would you say would be a superstar that you make a drink for that is on his level?

03:48If I'm Dallas, I'm thinking maybe Milwaukee.

03:51I'm not saying they're going to do this, right?

03:52Maybe Milwaukee.

03:54Milwaukee, who are they going to take?

03:56Giannis?

03:56I'm thinking Giannis.

03:59Let me just see what they think.

04:00Again, I don't think they would do it.

04:02But if you're Dallas, you're going to call around a little bit.

04:05You can't jump to assumptions.

04:09It's like when you go on, when you went on your date, your prom date,

04:12and you start looking at some other girl who looked fine but thinking like,

04:17this is the girl I want.

04:19This is the girl I came with.

04:20I start looking around, then damn, here I go again.

04:24I'm shooting myself.

04:25He saw a need for his team.

04:28He went out and addressed that need.

04:31Sean was saying the same thing.

04:33Your mic could have got more.

04:35What more were you going to get?

04:37What are you trying to get?

04:37You want to get a great player.

04:42You got a draft pick, whatever it was.

04:44Right.

04:45I mean, I think it was a hell of a deal for really both teams.

04:49And I think if Nikoi went out there and put that bait out there,

04:55then the word would have been out.

04:56Oh my god, Lucas up for sale.

04:59Now, as you're saying, smoke time.

05:02You got a smoke show.

05:06As your voice said, you would have.

05:08They come to Lucas and say, well, Lucas, what do you think about coming here?

05:12And how do you feel about coming there?

05:13No.

05:14We cut to the chase.

05:17This is what we did.

05:18Boom, it's done.

05:19So I mean, the only thing I'm kind of crazy about

05:23is the fact that when they go back to Dallas

05:26and what's going to happen with that first game.

05:29I talked to a couple of Dallas people the other day.

05:31I said, if I am Anthony Davis, I'm going to play in Boston

05:38and get that shit out the way.

05:42My debut, I don't want my debut in Dallas with people booing me

05:47if I miss four or five shots.

05:49Yeah, that's true.

05:50There are going to be some people going to be very happy about the deal.

05:53But for the majority of part, in Dallas, there are people,

05:58this is almost like losing a family member to some of these people.

06:03That's how crazy they were going.

06:05Season ticket holders got their money back.

06:08They were giving up their seats after this deal.

06:12Oh, giving up the seats.

06:13They didn't get their money back.

06:16Well, some people got some money back.

06:18But yeah, you didn't get the full price.

06:19How do you get money back?

06:20How do you get money back?

06:22You can't give the seats back to the organization.

06:25No, I mean for the rest of the season, for the rest of the season.

06:27Like they sold off the rest of the season.

06:29Oh, they sold their seats to who?

06:32To somebody else who wanted to buy them.

06:35So they're not, you know, it might in the short term,

06:39I think they're going to be people are angry.

06:40But how far does that Dallas go?

06:43What happens if Dallas goes to the finals and wins the championship?

06:47How's it viewed then?

06:50The success, for sure.

06:51It's a small window, but they definitely have the better window,

06:53if you ask me.

06:54Well, they definitely do.

06:55They have a better window of opportunity.

06:57If you want to strike the iron, get one of the best players out there.

07:01And here's the need that Dallas had.

07:03Dallas needed the big, a big that could score.

07:06Gafford, Lively, they get there.

07:09They can't create their own shots.

07:12Anthony Davis can create his own shot.

07:14You give him the basketball, he's a primary passer.

07:18He's a great rebounder.

07:19He's a great defender.

07:21I mean, he does so many things well that how do you even pass on that?

07:26And then Sean was saying, I think you could have got more.

07:30What do you want?

07:30You want to go to, hey, how about this?

07:32You want to go to Denver?

07:34You want to go to Denver, see if you can get Jokic.

07:38Yeah, poor Danny Ainge didn't even know what he was doing, man.

07:40He was like, man, I thought we were just doing picks for a player here.

07:44And then Joe Sway, you're trying to say Danny Ainge did not

07:54Danny is never, Danny might be acting like he's on that thing,

08:04They had to come together.

08:18Danny had, I mean, it's going to be amazing when the draft comes up

08:33So Danny's going to be able to will and deal at the end.

08:45So I just, I'm not going to believe that Danny did not know anything.

08:50Well, as your boy Sharp said, man, he would have,

08:54Now all that smoke, he would have been, it would have been pressure.

08:56And then Luke, I don't know, maybe he gets cold feet.

08:58Maybe the Lakers don't get, I don't know.

09:00They just, they did that deal last minute.

09:04They did the deal and got it done.

09:09In terms of getting more, though, my only thing is more and more draft picks.

09:12I mean, Utah, speaking of Danny, what did he get for Rudy Gobert?

09:16He got four future picks.

09:18You don't even know what those picks are going to be, I swear.

09:21They have no idea what those picks might be.

09:24Those picks could be 27, 28.

09:27They could be at the bottom.

09:28But what you know, you got a bonafide star who is still,

09:33Anthony Davis is not far from his prime right now.

09:36No, no, he's been playing like that this year, for sure.

09:39You tell me you got Anthony Davis, a shooter.

09:43You know, you can talk all the points Luke will bring to the table.

09:46That's great.

09:47How many did he give up?

09:49Everybody at the end of the year.

09:51At the end of the year, in the finals, what did they say?

09:54That Dallas had the best two players in that series.

10:00Not so much.

10:02Nah, he was a turnstile defense, man.

10:03He was a turnstile.

10:05They were Brown and Tatum.

10:07And Luka got exposed.

10:10Well, Luka, I love these people who say, Luka can rise to the occasion.

10:14Well, you got the NBA finals.

10:18When do you want to rise to the occasion?

10:21Now, talk to somebody who did rise to the occasion.

10:24I played in the finals.

10:25Rise to the occasion.

10:27That's when the big boys step up.

10:29So for me, that was, I mean, I just think that, especially when you talk

10:35about on the defensive end, and he's a smart player,

10:38and the ball is not going to necessarily stay in his hands.

10:43He runs the floor.

10:45I mean, when Luka, that's what I'm going to love to see,

10:48when Luka and LeBron get together.

10:50Because LeBron, he'll bounce the air out of that basketball.

10:54He's going someplace at the end.

10:57And don't sleep on Christie, man.

10:58Christie's a good piece to add.

11:00Yeah, he's not coming off picks and all that stuff.

11:03So yeah.

14:05Boston Celtics lost to the Dallas Mavericks,

14:07127 to 120, like you said, Max.

14:10No AD, of course, no Luka Donchez,

14:13but plenty of great vibes coming from Klay Thompson.

14:15As they say, turned back the clock against the Celtics,

14:18especially in that first half.

14:19Got them off to a great start.

14:21And they stayed in front mostly throughout that second half.

14:23Celtics made a great push.

14:24The Celtics bench, I should say,

14:26made a hell of a push in that second half.

14:27Peyton Pritchard going off.

14:29But it wasn't enough.

14:30It wasn't enough, man.

14:32But hey, as you would say, Max,

14:34once the head coach pulls their starters,

14:38regardless of what that scoreboard looks like,

14:40I wanted to see that second unit get it done.

14:41It didn't happen, but I love the fight.

14:44I think that's great for guys in the long run,

14:47especially players who don't play a whole lot.

14:49But big deal, no big deal.

14:50Boston Celtics losing to the Dallas Mavericks

14:54at TD Garden without Anthony Davis.

14:56I don't think it was.

14:57Well, it was and it wasn't a big deal.

15:00And I don't like to get in the middle,

15:02but it was a big deal for me.

15:04And the fact that the Celtics have not protected home.

15:07They have not been the dominant home team.

15:10And it seems like every time another team

15:14is missing key players, more than one,

15:17the Celtics fall into that same booga-boo

15:20of just not being able to complete the deal.

15:24Turning the ball over must have been the first half.

15:27They must have turned the ball over

15:29at least 12 times in the first half.

15:30So they just really played into the hands

15:35of what you were able to get from Dallas.

15:39Yeah, for sure, Max.

15:40And I feel like that third quarter, man,

15:42you're waiting for that fight,

15:44that pushback after the halftime.

15:46And man, the Dallas Mavericks executed in a big way,

15:48especially with the rebounding and glass.

15:50It just felt like from an executional standpoint,

15:52Celtics just couldn't find that offensive rhythm

15:54and did what he had to do in that fourth quarter, man.

15:57Pulled the starters out of there.

15:58And yeah, I just, like you said, Max,

16:01I don't know what's going on

16:02with the whole situation at home,

16:03but hopefully they can fix that

16:05because they're certainly gonna have that on their side

16:07when it comes to the postseason at home court advantage, man.

16:09We saw what that looked like

16:10throughout last year's playoff run.

16:12Three losses only, you know,

16:14and it was rarely at TD guard, of course.

16:16So yeah, I'm with you on that.

16:18Sort of a big deal in that regard,

16:20but not a big deal in a sense of looking at the Mavericks

16:23as a potential finals rematch this upcoming postseason.

16:28But it could happen, could happen.

16:29We'll see.

16:32Cleveland Cavaliers leading the Eastern Conference.

16:34Made a deal in training Karis LeVert,

16:36Georges Nyang, and three second round picks

16:39for DeAndre Hunter, who's a 17, 18 point scorer,

16:43can get it done on both ends of the floor.

16:45Had a heck of a season with the Atlanta Hawks,

16:47but now he joins the Cavs.

16:49Big deal or no big deal?

16:50This one got some Southern fans worried.

16:53Bigger deal than I think

16:55because Hunter, he can go either way.

16:58He's long enough that he can get up

17:00and guard Tatum and Browns,

17:03but he's crafty enough offensively

17:06that he can score buckets

17:07and make it tough on the opposition.

17:09So he can be a nice love player when it comes to that.

17:13So I'm gonna go with big deal the way it was.

17:20I agree, I agree, Max.

17:21I think it's a big deal because exactly what you said

17:23in the sense of what he's gonna do defensively,

17:25especially in the fourth quarter.

17:26If one of those guys are going,

17:27if you're at Cleveland, you wanna have that guy

17:29you can say, hey, slow down Tatum

17:31or hey, stay in front of Brown.

17:32I think he's that guy,

17:34but I just always point out the Celtics' depth,

17:36especially with Chris Stats.

17:37I just feel like he just creates a lot of problems

17:39for the Cavaliers or someone like Derek White,

17:41like he did the other night goes off in the fourth.

17:44They just don't have a solution for that.

17:45I'm not quite sure DeAndre Hunter solves that,

17:48but it does, like you said,

17:49give them that perimeter defender

17:51that could really help these guys.

17:52And of course, confidence at a sky high rate right now

17:56for the Cavaliers,

17:57regardless of what happened in the last matchup.

17:59I just can't wait for that best of seven series, man.

18:01I think it happens at some point in the post season

18:03and it's gonna be one hell of a series

18:04between the Celtics and Cavs, man.

18:06So stay tuned for that for sure.

18:07Yeah, yes, indeed.

18:08I wanna see them two teams play together,

18:10but in the seven game series,

18:12I still think the Celtics have the advantage.

18:16Right, I don't think it puts them over the top.

18:18I'm with you, yeah.

18:21yeah, I'd go with the Celtics.

18:28The Charlotte Hornets, you know, last week

18:29or last episode, I have to say,

18:31I was talking about who's gonna be playing center

18:33for this damn Lakers team

18:34after you done traded your big and Anthony Davis.

18:37And they went out and got Mark Williams

18:39from the Charlotte Hornets

18:41in exchange for Dalton Connects,

18:43the rookie that was making some waves this season for sure.

18:46Cam Reddish and a future first round pick.

18:49Big deal, no big deal that the Lakers now have a center

18:52in the middle and Mark Williams.

18:54They needed one.

18:55I think it's a big deal.

18:56They needed a big body.

18:58They need some rim protection.

19:00He can be consistent in the paint

19:03if he can score maybe 10 points

19:05and get about five or six rebounds a game,

19:08something like that.

19:09I think it really helps them out

19:11in what they're able to do.

19:13I think so too, Max, man.

19:14I'm gonna say a big deal in that sense,

19:15but I don't think it's a big deal

19:16in that, you know, look out for the Lakers

19:18going into the finals.

19:19I don't know.

19:20I mean, it helps them.

19:21It solves an issue, like I said,

19:23from the trade, from the jump.

19:24I was like, okay, Anthony Davis, great pick.

19:28I mean, excuse me.

19:29Luka Dodge is a great piece,

19:29but who's playing center?

19:30You know, who's your starting guy?

19:32Jackson Hayes is a good piece off the bench,

19:34but I'm not quite sure he's your starting center,

19:36you know, for a team that has championship

19:38or potential championship aspirations.

19:39But I think this helps them.

19:41Of course, staying healthy has always been an issue

19:43with Mark Williams,

19:44but he solves that void at the center position for sure.

19:49And you had that athleticism,

19:50which Luka loves.

19:51Obviously we saw with Gafford,

19:53very similar in that sense.

19:54Get your buckets around the rim,

19:57just a constant threat.

19:58So yeah, it's certainly,

20:00it's a big deal in that sense for sure,

20:01man, for the Lakers.

20:02All right, big deal or no big deal.

20:04Jimmy Butler got his wish, Max.

20:07Got out of Miami, got a bag of dough,

20:10two-year deal worth $111 million.

20:13Man, gets the pays off to just quit on the team.

20:16And we all said he was stupid.

20:19We all on the same page.

20:20He ain't getting no more money.

20:22He ain't this, he ain't that.

20:24Jimmy Butler, smart like a box.

20:28He's already had 50 million this year

20:30and have another 50 million on this contract

20:33for the coming year,

20:35where he went up to 60 and 61 million for the next two.

20:38Crazy.

20:39So he's good to go right now.

20:44Crazy.

20:44Teams up with, of course, Steph Curry,

20:46Draymond Green, the rest of the Warriors.

20:49They're gonna try to squeeze out a potential championship

20:52or finals appearance within the next year or two.

20:54But is that what happens

20:56when you add someone like Jimmy Butler?

20:57Big deal, no big deal.

20:59Jimmy Butler headed to the Warriors.

21:00I think the Warriors have a lot of problems,

21:03a lot of space and things

21:05that they have to do with their team.

21:08Guys they lost.

21:09Yeah, I don't think you fill the void with them.

21:13I think they can still be a dangerous team.

28:31they were like, you know what,

28:32maybe we don't need Tice as much,

28:33so they changed their mind there, I guess.

28:42and how, if any of them latch onto a team
