00:47Hello welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Telesudio Studios in Havana,
00:51Cuba.
00:53In Argentina, a leaked video reveals how the government and the channel Todo Noticias manipulated
00:58an interview to protect the president.
01:01The interview, conducted by Jonathan Viale, political operator of Clarín Group, intended
01:06to clean Millet's image after the scandal caused by the scam carried out by the Libra
01:10token.
01:11However, an unedited version was leaked, where his advisor Santiago Caputo interrupts the
01:17conversation and speaks in Millet's ear, since the president was confessing that he is going
01:21to resort to the state mechanism through the Ministry of Justice to save him in a case
01:26that is spread by pro-government media as a problem between private parties.
01:31After the interruption, the interviewer accepts the correction and asks the president how
01:36to follow up.
01:43The truth is, we have the legal issues, not only mine.
01:47It would be imprudent of me to anticipate this.
01:50And surely the one who understands it best is our Minister of Justice, Mariano Cuneo
01:54Liberona.
01:55He will follow the entire judicial strategy, while he is the Minister of Justice, he is
02:01the one who knows about this.
02:04But it is an issue in which you participated as a citizen and as president.
02:08That's why I'm asking you.
02:11But again, it is good that you pointed out as a citizen because I was tweeting from my
02:15personal account.
02:17But you already realized that no, you are the president.
02:20You told me before.
02:21Yes, but my account is my personal account.
02:24Ok, but you are the president.
02:26See what my account says.
02:28Economist.
02:29Yes, I know.
02:30But you're the president.
02:32What?
02:34With that part?
02:36Well, I don't know where I was.
02:40Well, ok, ok.
02:43Yes, I know why.
02:46Because of the trial.
02:49Right?
02:51Right.
02:55Right?
02:56Yes, obviously.
02:57No, I understand, I realize, it can create a judicial mess for you.
03:05So where were we?
03:06I don't know.
03:07You asked me again about Libra.
03:08I don't know.
03:09Ok, I'll go back from there.
03:13And the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Uruguay informed about presence
03:18of Avian Influenza in the national territory.
03:21Due to the detection of an outbreak of Avian Influenza in the town of Tres Isletas, department
03:26of Maipú, province of Chaco, in Argentina, the Uruguayan authorities declared a state
03:31of sanitary alert throughout the national territory.
03:34The Animal Health Division of MGAP stated that it is essential to report any mortality
03:41of wild or domestic birds.
03:44Avian Influenza is an infectious disease that mainly affects birds, but when it is transmitted
03:49to humans, the symptoms can range from a mild infection to severe pneumonia, even death.
03:57And in Ecuador, the executive secretary of the Citizens' Revolution Party, Andrés Arauz,
04:04denounced irregularities in 700 electoral tallies.
04:08The acts challenged by the movement, considered fraudulent, were located in the provinces
04:13of Esmeraldas and Zucumbíos.
04:15Through his profile on the social media X, Arauz affirmed that Citizens' Revolution
04:20could add two more seats in the National Assembly if votes are corrected, consolidating itself
04:27as the main political force in the legislative body, with 69 seats out of the 67 it already
04:32holds.
04:33The National Electoral Council intends to proclaim the official results of the vote
04:37tally before March 22, while Luisa González and Daniel Novoa prepare for the run-off elections
04:42scheduled for April 13.
04:50And in Colombia, the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees warned
04:54about the increase of a humanitarian crisis in the territory of Catatumbo.
04:59Miguel Girard, the organization's representative in Colombia, said that 84,621 people had been
05:06displaced by guerrilla violence.
05:09The official pointed out that the violence in Catatumbo has generated the largest mass
05:13displacement in recorded history, with communities and families confined, with restricted mobility
05:19and limited access to food, medical care and humanitarian aid.
05:23Other sources reported that at least 56 people have been killed in clashes that began on
05:28January 16 in the region between the ELN and the 33rd Front of the FARC dissidents.
05:40The United Nations warned also that Haiti reached record levels of food insecurity.
05:44UN data shows that 99% of families do not eat during the day due to food shortages.
05:50They also denounced that armed criminal groups continue to disrupt food supply by closing
05:54roads and demanding bribes from truck drivers, which increases prices and leaves families
06:00unable to buy basic products.
06:03On the other hand, the United Nations warns that because of the U.S. funding freeze, the
06:07situation will worsen in the country.
06:16Parliament authorities of Venezuela and Cuba signed a memorandum to strengthen fraternal
06:20relations between the two countries.
06:22The President of the National Assembly of Cuba, Esteban Lazo, received his Venezuelan
06:26counterpart Jorge Rodriguez.
06:29During the encounter, the diplomats highlighted the relations between the two brotherly nations,
06:34in addition to ratifying the will to strengthen and expand inter-parliamentary ties.
06:38They also signed a memorandum of understanding between the two legislative bodies, which
06:42will promote cooperation and exchange of experiences.
06:46The meeting was held with the traditional military ceremony, which preceded the interpretation
06:51of both national anthems.
07:04We can only thank the people of Cuba, their government, the President of the National
07:08Assembly for their gesture, and ratify here, in the Simon Bolivar Hall, of the beautiful
07:13capital of the Republic of Cuba.
07:18We now have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on Tiktok
07:33at Telesor English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and much

07:48Welcome back.
08:00In Saudi Arabia, Russia and the United States reached agreements to promote and strengthen
08:04bilateral relations.
08:05The Russian presidential adviser, Yuri Ushakov, said that both delegations discussed a number
08:10of issues, including strengthening bilateral relations, as both sides are interested in
08:15this.
08:16Russian spokesmen indicated that Moscow and Washington agreed to take into account the
08:19interests of the other party in order to normalize cooperation.
08:22This has been the first meeting between the two powers since the beginning of the Russian
08:26special operation in Ukraine.
08:28No specific date has yet been set for Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump to meet.
08:40In a press briefing, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that both governments agreed
08:45to send diplomatic personnel to the embassies in Moscow and Washington.
08:48The foreign minister added that both parties also agreed to form a process to settle the
08:52conflict in Ukraine.
08:54Lavrov further said that the renewed talks aimed to create conditions for mutual cooperation
08:59in order to regain previous levels and further develop in different spheres.
09:11Our deputies will meet as soon as possible and consider the need to remove these artificial
09:15barriers to the work of embassies and other Russian institutions in the United States
09:20and that of the United States in Russia.
09:25And without concentrating on any particular manifestation of these obstacles, they will
09:30try to take a systematic approach in order to put an end, once and for all, to these
09:35inconveniences which really hamper the development of everyday, normal relations.
09:44In statements to the press after the meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said
09:48Washington and Moscow showed a great interest in resuming talks on geopolitical issues,
09:52finding a solution to the conflict in Ukraine and strengthening diplomatic relations between
09:56both countries.
10:02There was a great interest, which we share, in resuming consultations on geopolitical
10:07issues, including various conflicts in various parts of the world, where both the United
10:12States and Russia have interests.
10:17And there was a big interest in removing artificial barriers to the development of mutually beneficial
10:22economic cooperation.
10:26We have agreed that a process on the Ukrainian settlement will be formed in the near future.
10:35The American side will inform us who will represent Washington in this task.
10:44And as soon as we know the name and position of the relevant representative, we will, as
10:48President Putin told President Trump, immediately designate our participant in this process.
10:57And the Chinese government says it hopes all parties and stakeholders can participate in
11:01peace talks over the Ukraine conflict, as top US and Russian diplomat met in Saudi Arabia.
11:09On Ukraine crisis, the Chinese side has always believed that dialogue and negotiation are
11:14the only viable way to resolve the crisis.
11:17We always insist on peace and dialogue.
11:19We are happy to see all efforts towards peace, including the consensus reached by the United
11:24States and Russia, on peace talks.
11:26At the same time, we hope that all parties and stakeholders can participate in the peace
11:31talks in due course.
11:35In the United States, hundreds of people protested against President Donald Trump and his policies
11:39at rallies held on the President's Day holiday.
11:42Nearly a thousand people marched in the snow from state capital in Boston to the city hall,
11:46shouting slogans like Elon Musk must go.
11:50These protests denounced Trump and his advisor, billionaire Elon Musk, who heads the new Department
11:55of Government Efficiency, an entity outside the government aimed at cutting federal spending.
12:00The marches followed a series of Trump's executive orders and took place just days
12:04after staff cuts were reported at several federal agencies, as part of an effort to
12:09reduce the government's workforce.
12:11I thought it was important to be here on President's Day to demonstrate for what America
12:19stands for.
12:20American values are not the values of the plutocracy or the limited few rich people.
12:27American values are about what we are as a country all together.
12:30It's about inclusion.
12:32It's about working together.
12:34It's about checks and balances.
12:36And all of that I'm afraid of being eroded with the current administration.
12:40I'm very concerned about the cuts in health care and health care research.
12:44I'm very concerned about the cuts in the federal spending because the federal government provides
12:48a lot of services and checks and balances and proper regulation to keep our country
12:54moving forward.
12:55It felt like I could finally see how many of us there are and how many of us are unhappy
13:01with the way that this country is moving.
13:04It's disappointing, truly.
13:06And I thought we'd already been through this.
13:10In the United States, heavy rains and hurricane-force winds caused the death of at least 13 people
13:25in the state of Kentucky, as a new wave of extreme cold and snow is expected.
13:30According to the National Weather Service, some areas of Kentucky and Tennessee have
13:34experienced over six inches of rain.
13:37In the last few hours, heavy rainfall generated flash flooding with more than a thousand people
13:41rescued across the state.
13:43The storm has left obstructed roads, damaged buildings, and power outages affecting hundreds
13:48of thousands of homes and businesses in Kentucky, Tennessee, and other states across the country.
13:54Strong winds are expected to continue across the Northeast through Monday night, with a
13:59new storm already underway that will bring scattered snowfall across the mountain range.

14:45The Democratic Republic of the Congo thousands flee to Burundi as the M23 rebel group takes
14:50over Bukavu, South Kivu.
14:52Over 10,000 displaced people crossed the Rutsisi River, while another group of residents fled
14:58from the Kamanyola area, camping in northwestern Burundian province of Sibitoke.
15:04Burundi authorities briefly closed the border crossing between the two nations as a precaution
15:09to moderate the flow of refugees.
15:11The M23 took Bukavu after capturing the city of Goma in North Kivu, as well as the town
15:16of Kabumu and its airport.
15:34And the Israeli government invited tenders to build nearly a thousand new housing units
15:43for Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, despite massive international protests.
15:49The Israeli Anti-Settlement Group reported that the tender is for the construction of
15:52974 additional illegal homes in the settlement of Efrat, south of Bethlehem.
15:58They also warned that the construction of an entire neighborhood in the settlement of
16:02Efrat will expand it by 644,000 square meters, which will increase the number of settlers
16:08living there by about 40 percent.
16:11While residents of the occupied territories are concentrating on the release of prisoners
16:16at the end of the genocidal war, the Netanyahu government is working to destroy the possibility
16:21of peace and commitment to the settlement.
16:29Non-humanitarian organizations warned users about what they described as a catastrophic
16:33situation in the Palestinian cities of Gaza and Rafa, despite the influx of aid and supplies
16:39for the population.
16:40According to the British-founded non-governmental organization Oxfam, more than 80 percent of
16:44water and sanitation infrastructure across the Gaza Strip has been partially or entirely
16:49destroyed after 15 months of Israel's military assault.
16:54Likewise, 85 percent of the sewage pumping stations, 85 percent of small desalination
16:58plants and 67 percent of the municipal wells have also been destroyed by the Zionist attacks.
17:04Authorities warned that despite the ceasefire, tensions remain high as violence could return.
17:08This would lead to a public health disaster for those trying to survive on 7 percent of
17:13water.
17:20Israeli forces continue their presence in five points of the Lebanese border in violation
17:24of the ceasefire agreement and after the deadline for its withdrawal from the south of Lebanon
17:29has expired.
17:31According to local media, the Lebanese Armed Forces are deploying little by little to counter
17:34the Israeli presence in the territory, despite the fact that the advance is being hampered
17:39by explosives and damage to roads.
17:41On the other hand, several tanks and vehicles of the Israeli occupation were reportedly
17:45seen advancing early morning Tuesday towards the city of Farshuba, carrying explosive material
17:51to prepare imminent bombardments in the area.
17:54The Lebanese army has begun to remove the mounds of earth at the northern entrance to
17:58Yairun to make way for residents, while in the town of Hula, the villagers are waiting
18:03for permission to enter.
18:10And South Korea's constitutional court decided on Tuesday to hold the 10th and final hearing
18:14in the impeachment trial of President Jun Suk-yeo on Thursday the 20th.
18:20The criminal trial of the president, who is accused of rebellion for declaring martial
18:24law, will begin the same day.
18:27The constitutional court rejected a request by Jun's defense to postpone the hearing so
18:31that the two trials do not coincide on the same day.
18:35If Jun's impeachment is upheld, new early presidential elections will be called within
18:3960 days of the court's ruling.
18:57In Germany, British actress Tilda Swinton denounced inhumane treatment and genocide
19:01in Gaza at the opening of the 75th Berlin International Film Festival.
19:04This year, the British actress was awarded the honorary Golden Bear in recognition of
19:10her career.
19:11During her acceptance speech, she lashed out at the actions of some world leaders who allowed
19:15conflicts and sieges in various territories, such as Israel's genocide against the Palestinian
19:21people.
19:22The actress, known for her roles in Michael Clayton and Once Upon a Time There Was a Genius,
19:27also expressed her desire for an inclusive and racism-free film industry.
19:33The Berlin Film Festival 2025 will feature films from more than 30 countries, including
19:38European and non-European countries, such as Argentina, Brazil, China, South Korea,
