00:00There are a few things that Cora said today in that interview that I found interesting.
00:03One, I mean he basically called Bregman perfect.
00:07Like a perfect fit for this team, which honestly I kind of thought that all offseason.
00:12He's a leader, he's an adult in the room, he's won before, he has a relationship with Cora,
00:16they cheated together when they were in Houston.
00:18He won a title.
00:19He did.
00:20He has maybe some flexibility defensively, but third base would be a great fit to move
00:24Devers across the diamond and he's right-handed.
00:26So in a lot of ways he is a perfect fit.
00:28It's just interesting to hear Cora say that.
00:30But don't you think he's a perfect fit is a compliment to Bregman,
00:34but it's also very much an acknowledgment of what children, Devers, Kostas, and other guys might be?
00:40So I'm happy you said that because Cora had a separate answer and it was, I'm paraphrasing,
00:44but it was something like, we have adults in the room now.
00:47Yeah, they didn't before.
00:48Which I'm okay with saying.
00:50I've said, you've said, we all feel.
00:51Yeah, we're not the skipper though.
00:52Right, we needed leaders on this team.
00:54The Red Sox needed leaders on this team.
00:56It's interesting to hear him say it.
00:58Now we have adults in the room, which means you didn't in the past.
01:02And he went through and he highlighted J.D. Martinez's name.
01:05He highlighted Justin Turner's name.
01:07Yeah, Turner was a good leader.
01:08But he even said their D.H.s basically.
01:10Those weren't guys who could lead day in and day out.
01:13No.
01:13And that was kind of a minor shot at Devers.
01:16And Bregman's the kind of guy who's going to be out there.
01:18He's going to be running the base.
01:19He's going to be fielding the position.
01:20He's going to be a leader.
01:21Now look, he's a little bit of an apple polisher teacher's pet, it seems,
01:24if Cora's going to call him perfect.
01:26But I do think the team needed that.
01:28And Cora underscored that today.
01:29Yeah, because I think the loss of Bogarts affected Devers more than anybody else.
01:34Because clearly Bogarts hasn't really done much.
01:36And who knows what kind of player he would have been here.
01:37There was talks that he might have moved off a shortstop while he was here anyway and all that.
01:41But just the leader, a guy who'd been on the team for a long time, who had been through it all,
01:46and could kind of be the shield for Devers.
01:47He didn't rely on Devers to be the guy that had to answer questions during a losing streak and all
01:51that.
01:52And now you probably don't either.
01:54He's still got the $300 million deal, so you'll still go to him and you might expect some of that
01:58stuff.
01:59But a guy like Bregman is going to really kind of change how that all plays out in the clubhouse.
02:04And the most important thing is, if they're winning, then there's less hard conversations,
02:10less finger pointing, and less of that anyway.
02:12It's easy to not dwell on the struggles when you're not struggling.
