00:00Not only did Batman change, but so did his ride. Here's a look at McFarlane Toys,
00:04this is the Batman Beyond, Batman and the Batmobile.
00:21Terry McGinnis was just an ordinary teenager until his father was
00:25mysteriously killed. Suspecting foul play, Terry meets an older, bitter Bruce Wayne
00:29and learns a secret hidden for decades. When Bruce refuses to help, Terry steals
00:33and dons a high-tech tricked-out Batsuit in a quest to avenge his father's death
00:37as Batman. It seems even in the future, chicks still dig the car. And before we
00:42actually look at Batman's car, I'd like to thank the folks over at McFarlane Toys
00:44that made this review possible. Now there's actually two versions of the
00:47Batman Beyond Batmobile. There's the one that we're looking in this review that
00:51is the deluxe version. It's gonna have lights and sounds and an additional
00:54Batman. And there's also the basic release of that. That's going to
00:57essentially be the same vehicle but without the lights, without the sounds
00:59and without the Batman. Let's go ahead and like I said take the tape measure.
01:02We're gonna go from one end to the other. The Batmobile is pretty long. Some
01:06assembly is required but when it's fully assembled, you're looking at it being 21
01:09inches in length or roughly about 54 centimeters long. Bringing now in the
01:15Bats and comparing him with the original Batman Beyond we got from the DC
01:18Multiverse line. If you like this mold, we've gotten this mold between that and
01:23the Batwoman Beyond. We've gotten about four mold releases of four variants of
01:27the release of this figure. And then again I think we've gotten about like
01:29two maybe three Batwoman Beyond figures. So this mold has been shared around a
01:34lot. Still though when you look at the two figures, this mold isn't getting
01:37shared at all with this release. In actual fact, it seems to be from what I
01:41can tell a retooling, an extensive retooling of the John Kent Superman that
01:45we've looked at before on this channel. And I guess really if the Batmobile is
01:48the star of the show, does that then make Batman the accessory to the set? I'll
01:52leave that to you to think about. You won't have to think about the question
01:55does it come in clear with the trading card? Clearly as you can see the proof is
01:57in the pudding. Yes it does. I do like that in this case they haven't used
02:00vehicle photography. What they've done instead it looks like they've
02:03illustrated this. Now if the Batman Batmobile does look a little bit
02:06different from the cartoon, this is actually the design based on more of the
02:09comics. You can see that Batman's flying away from the vehicle. Sort of gives
02:13the suggestion that maybe Batman doesn't have the means to sit inside the cockpit.
02:16When actually in fact he does. I do really like the look of the car. It's a
02:19little disappointing though that if you look at the back of the car, it makes
02:22really no mention at all of the Batmobile. What it does instead though
02:25is just a generic read up of Terry McGinnis and how he becomes the Bats.
02:28Let's move that card out of the way. So Batman itself, as we've already kind of
02:33talked about, is extensively retooling from what I can see like the Jonathan
02:37Kent or John Kent Superman body. Obviously what would have been gone away
02:41with is the Superman emblem in favor of now the Batman Beyond logo. And in this
02:45case we also get ourselves a brand new head sculpt which isn't at all shared
02:49with the original Batman Beyond. This figure has gotten a faceplate version.
02:53There's also been a shadow tech version I believe of this figure that
02:57was all decked out in blue. In the end though there's nothing at all that I can
03:01see that are shared between the two figures. Maybe like the biceps, maybe the
03:05shoulders, but everything else looks like it's extensive retooling. I guess maybe
03:09like the legs are the same. Okay now that I kind of think about it, the biceps, the
03:13shoulders, the lower legs all seem to be shared between the two figures. Retooling
03:18extensively though for the abdomen and retooling of course the torso there. So
03:22if anything maybe you could also even say that John Kent was a retooling of
03:26the Batman Beyond. Oh that even makes you think a little bit further. The one thing
03:30that's kind of interesting though is if say for example you happen to have this
03:34mold. I don't know again how many times we've gotten this release. If you'd like
03:37though to be able to sit this guy sitting inside the cockpit, you can't
03:41pull it off. Well the only way to pull that off is to literally pull the wings
03:44off because as you know flat plastic doesn't bend. Well it bends but you'll
03:48never be able to bend it back. So while this Batman Beyond did in fact have
03:52extendable wings, what I'm almost even tempted to do is because again I have a
03:56couple of releases of this figure, maybe go in there and try to pry the wings off
03:59this one. And even if they do eventually snap, I still have at least a serviceable
04:04Batman that can sit inside the cockpit. It's almost like they needed to release
04:07a figure with this vehicle that does have removable wings. In actual fact it
04:11does. Now this head sculpt though is a brand new retool. I don't think this is
04:15this may be the first and only time we've gotten this mold of a Batman
04:18Beyond. It does make very much more like a resemblance of Bruce Wayne before he
04:22retires the role of Bats. Of course extensively retooling there the top of
04:26his torso. Again I feel like this part here maybe this area in the arms, again
04:31it's between John Kent and Batman Beyond. Choose for yourself
04:34which ones have come first. I guess really the Batman Beyond would have come
04:37first with the arms and the lower legs. The thing about it though is while the
04:40deco is all really nice and fine for the front of the figure, because of course
04:43it's supposed to look like he's sitting inside the cockpit where like the
04:45dashboard lights all around would have illuminated in red, only just the black
04:49and the red are featured on the front of the figure. It's only just red on the
04:52back. There's no real additional black. Not that it really necessarily needs it
04:56either, but if you're one that likes just to display your figure on the shelf you
04:59might be a little more disappointed to find that on the back of it no paint got
05:02afforded at all. What he does have though is he does have wings and the wings do
05:06extend out. It's crucial though obviously if this guy's gonna sit inside
05:11the cockpit there has to be something that's done in order to change that. It's
05:14not magic. It's not mystery. All it really is is you have to detach this
05:17piece, which I'll do in a second. When you are putting it back though, this piece
05:21right here, you want to make sure you snap it in securely. If it's not sitting
05:25in completely, I find then it causes these wings to be overly loose because
05:28essentially it has to sandwich the wings to the torso, keeping the wings good and
05:32tight. So again like that's what Batman's gonna look like if he's just standing
05:36and displayed on his own. Of course I guess well before we put this guy inside
05:39the vehicle we'll run through the articulation on the figure. So Batman's
05:43gonna have a ball joint. It's really tight and I'm surprised to see how tight
05:47it actually was. The head's gonna look up. The head's gonna look down and you can
05:50also move it back and forth. The upper torso is gonna be on a ball joint. Same
05:54could be said as well for the abdomen area. That's also on a ball joint. The
05:57arms would normally rotate all the way around. You want to just make sure it
05:59clears at least the wings. The figure does also have a T pose. Swivel
06:04the bicep. Double hinge on the elbow. And yes, swiveling all the way around on the
06:07hands. The legs split out of old Van Damme splits, if you prefer. The legs, yes, move
06:13forward. They move back. There's a swivel at the top of the thigh. Double hinge on
06:16the knee and articulation down below with an ankle rocker. I feel like also
06:21these legs, not only for John Kent, but I think they were also shared with
06:24Lightning Lad. Lightning Lad? I think so. In the end though, again like while
06:28they've retooled, yeah again like looking at the ankles. Different ankles. So lower
06:32legs are a little bit different. It's not to say that they didn't retool. I
06:35know we're spending so much time talking about which molds got used from which
06:38figures. In the end though, some of the mold aspects got carried from Batman
06:42Beyond, John Kent, and possibly Lightning Lad. So in order to get this guy, this guy
06:47here, to sit inside of that, what you need to basically do first is you need to
06:50pry this plastic piece off. The first time you do it, it's super tight. Every
06:55time you do it afterwards, it becomes a little bit easier. There's a tab piece
06:59right here and there's a slot right here. And you can see like the moment this
07:02comes off, it kind of looks like an owl's face. Maybe not an owl's face. It looks
07:06more like a monkey's face. Once that's detached, obviously it's gonna make these
07:10wings overly loose. You're gonna take the wings and you're just gonna wiggle them
07:14off the post. Do that on one side and obviously to complete the goals, you need
07:17to do it on the other side as well. And now you got Batman Beyond without his
07:21wings. No real means to fly. I guess he still has rockets on the bottom of his
07:25boots. Now you'd be able to sit inside the cockpit. We'll kind of just put him
07:29off to the side here. We'll come back to him in a second. I did want to show you
07:32obviously the Batmobile as well. Some assembly. It's so funny though that we're
07:35talking about disassembling Batman Beyond to sit him inside the cockpit. Yet
07:39you have to get some assembly required in order to get the Batmobile to
07:43look like this. The front of these wings here, these little strut pieces actually
07:48have to be assembled. They snap on one side. They snap on the other. Not so
07:51securely though. They're fairly easy to detach. So if you would rather have like
07:55for example these removed, you can just easily remove them and you don't have to
07:58worry that they're like those friction snapped pieces that you know once you
08:02get them in place to take them off runs the risk of snapping any of the plastic.
08:06No, they seem pretty easy to detach. The other thing also too is that it
08:10attaches to a display stand. The display stand, if I just remove it right now, put
08:15the Batmobile down for a second, does really have a nice Batman Beyond logo. So
08:19much work went into this. I'd like to think that they could maybe use this for
08:22a future release. I don't really know what maybe like again the cartoon version of
08:25the Batmobile. Yeah that would be cool. And then of course there's a metal post
08:28that sits inside of that. So you get this piece. You get this piece. I mean again
08:32simple shapes. You know how everything comes together. But this basically will
08:35just attach or attach I should say on the undercarriage of the vehicle. The one
08:39last thing you may want to do before you do that though is you have to install
08:42the batteries. It takes three AAA batteries. It doesn't come included with
08:45the vehicle. I mean AAA batteries are pretty easy to come by. I think I have
08:48myself like a pack of 20. I only really need the three. They went all in there.
08:52And then to light everything up, you press this back button right here. This
08:56basically this entire section that's shiny and black. You have to press it
08:59down. We'll kind of talk more about that in a moment. Yeah I mean like the
09:02Batmobile as a whole looks really neat. I mean it's a little jarring from what I
09:06would expect the Batmobile to look like from the future. Because again like I
09:08grew up watching the cartoon. But it does still have very much like the look of
09:12the vehicle. It's just a little bit different. It now has also the red
09:15canopy windows here as well. I mean that will certainly aid as well to like
09:19illuminate Batman inside. To open up the canopy by the way you just press this
09:23button here in the front. That pops up inside. You can see it has very much
09:27futuristic tech. A nice little easter egg also in there as well. It's the return
09:31of the Joker. I love the return of the Joker. I really of the of the two I
09:35actually kind of like the theatrical cut and not the director's cut. I like Joker
09:39the way he dies in the other. Oh no I just gave it away. Come on guys it's an
09:42older movie. But there's like the image there. That's the view screen of the
09:45return of the Joker. It's kind of ironic though the fact that we're looking at a
09:48Batmobile that's from pulled from the pages of the comics. And yet the screen
09:52of the Clown Prince of Crime is actually from the animated movie. Anyways you're
09:55gonna basically take yourself your Batman. I mean obviously you already know
09:58how a figure will sit inside of a vehicle. Just fold in the legs and
10:01then he basically will just slide inside. Now you can choose for yourself to snap
10:07him onto these handles. He's got little handles here on the front. I mean
10:10obviously he's gonna sit fine really on his own. And if you have enough clearance
10:13you want to make sure this guy's all the way in there. Slide him all the way down
10:17as best as low down as you really can get him. You want to make sure he
10:20clears the canopy. Sometimes though this does end up happening. If you look at the
10:25back of this, if he's not all the way down there. I was kind of worried that
10:28this was gonna end up happening. It ends up popping off the canopy. At least they
10:32sort of put a fail-safe in there so it doesn't actually break the canopy. What
10:35it is instead, there's two pegs right here. There's two holes on the back and
10:39that just plugs in place. Although it's kind of hard to get it back in place
10:44when it first falls off. You kind of want to make sure it's on a flat surface. Push
10:49against those holes and now you can close up the canopy. Now Batman Beyond
10:53is sitting inside. It's kind of a little harder obviously to make this out. The
10:58design of the vehicle though as a whole, I do like that they've used the matte
11:00black and then added shinier accents here on the fronts. Obviously on the
11:04sides here as well. There's some interesting tech spec detailing that
11:08they've also added to the interior of the vehicle. And he also has that quite a
11:11lot on the bottom here as well. Now they've brushed on some silver. I would
11:15have really liked it they have added much more silver than what we're seeing
11:17right now. Of course that's what the bottom of the vehicle looks like. That's
11:20the back thrusters. All of these by the way will illuminate. So this will
11:23illuminate and then the windows here will also illuminate as well. Now you're
11:26maybe asking yourself, how how humble the reviewer does this illuminate? I'm so
11:29glad you asked. So we're gonna press again this button here on the front. I
11:33guess on the back. It's gonna cycle through two sets of light sequences and
11:37then on the third press it's gonna emit as well the lights and the sounds. So if
11:42I haven't pressed this, I want to make sure I've kind of got this in the proper
11:44order. You push it the first time, it illuminates. And just to show you what
11:48that looks like, that's what the illumination is. It's quite bright really
11:50inside on the dashboard. I mean you can see really how well that brightens up
11:55Batman on the sides here as well. And it also does illuminate on the back. Now
11:59this doesn't stay on indefinitely. Don't worry you're not gonna be draining the
12:02batteries. After a while it will turn off but it stays on long enough at least to
12:07get the full effect going. So we'll leave it on kind of a little bit here and as
12:12you can see it starts to flash and then eventually, eventually the lights will
12:18dim. So we press it again. That must then have been the second time that I pressed
12:24it. You finally get yourself the lights and the sounds. So it's not only gonna
12:28make these sounds coming from the back of the thrusters but also you can see
12:32the interior does flash as well. That's the third sequence. So let's just say
12:38this was the beginning sequence again. You'd press it once, it would illuminate.
12:41And pressing it again, by the way, will turn it off. You press it again, same
12:46idea. It illuminates. The second time though is the time I end up... I really did
12:51want to start this with the first sequence. I end up pressing with the
12:53second sequence. The second one actually has it flashing and you'll see
12:57again. I know we've already kind of looked at this. It'll start to
13:01flash eventually, eventually. It'll start to flash and then eventually will
13:05extinguish. The third one though, pressing the button again, will then
13:10cycle through the audio clips. There goes the flashing. So that's a little bit
13:14different on the second stage. And then again the final stage will be... we'll just
13:19close the cockpit for that. Illuminates the front, gives us the sound effects.
13:23The sound effects also come from the bottom of the vehicle and you can see it
13:27flashes from the back as well. Let's say though that you don't want to... you don't
13:33really all that care about the audio clips or really for that matter that the
13:37lights. I think there is again a basic version of the Batmobile that's gonna
13:40give you everything that you're getting right now, short of the audio clips, short
13:44of the lights and the sounds, and short of obviously Batman sitting inside the
13:48vehicle right now. I mean for me at least if I had the choice I probably would
13:51have gone the route of getting the Batmobile with the lights, with the
13:54sounds, because I guess it gives a little more shelf appeal. Periodically I'm
13:58always one that likes to kind of go buy things that have lights and sounds.
14:01Just randomly go up and press something on it just to see what it's
14:03gonna do. Unfortunately though, like I said, if you are one that
14:07liked collecting the original Batman Beyond, you wouldn't really have a means
14:10to sit inside the vehicle because there's no real way to remove the wings
14:13unless again you try to pry these off, which I'm kind of part of me is tempted
14:17to try to do. Pry this off so that I can actually have this Batman sitting inside
14:22the cockpit. If you have similar struggles and similar frustrations that
14:25you really wish this figure could sit inside and you thought to yourself, you
14:27know, had they only just included a Batman that has detachable wings, they
14:31did with the deluxe release of it. Oh man, I really wish I still had my Kenner
14:35Batman Beyond Batmobile. That and the New Adventures Batmobile were some of my
14:38favorite vehicles as a kid. Now unfortunately though, I had parted ways
14:42with those years ago. I mean at least McFarlane and his team came through and
14:46released a Batman Beyond Batmobile. Granted it's not one based on the
14:50cartoon, so the design of this vehicle will be varied a little bit because it's
14:53based more on the comics. The look of the vehicle is nice and sleek and with
14:57really the assembly of it being so limited. I mean you really only have to
15:00attach the two front pieces on the front of the vehicle and then you're good to
15:03go. The lights and the sounds are nice as nice as an added touch. Some may choose
15:08instead just to get the basic release of the Batmobile that isn't gonna have that.
15:11But I think if you had a choice and you spend the extra few dollars more, getting
15:15the lights and the sounds does jazz up the vehicle and it does give you again a
15:18reason for why Batman's glowing inside. The figure that we get inside, while
15:23again debating back and forth which parts got used from which figures, I
15:26think in the end though is probably some Batman Beyond, some John Kent, some
15:30lightning lad. The head sculpt though is a little bit different. I mean with this
15:34one having the mouth guard, his again design much like the Batmobile is based
15:38more heavily on the comics and less on the cartoon. What do you guys think of
15:41the Batmobile? Let me know down below in the comment section. Have you guys had
15:44the chance to pick this one up or is this one that's on your futuristic radar?
15:47A big thank you again to the folks over at McFarlane Toys that did provide the
15:50sample. This was the Batman Beyond Batmobile that came included with Batman.
15:54If you guys did enjoy this video, you can do it a salt and throw it a like. You
15:57guys want to stick around for more so? I hope so. Hit that subscribe, turn on that
16:01bell and of course come back. As always thanks for watching. See you guys next
16:05time.
