00:00from racing the streets to racing through the cosmos here's a look the
00:04brand-new McFarland toys DC multiverse McFarland collectors edition Green
00:09Lantern Corps member Simon Baz
00:31as a Muslim growing up in Michigan Simon Baz was often the target of bigotry
00:39after he lost his job at an automotive plant Simon started stealing cars to
00:44make ends meet one night he stole a van and discovered a ticking bomb inside the
00:47vehicle after a high-speed chase he was taken into custody and suspected as a
00:51terrorist amid harsh interrogation by federal agents a power ring sought Baz
00:56out conferring on him the abilities and responsibilities of a Green Lantern a
01:00reluctant superhero Baz considered the selection a mistake but sought to do his
01:05best to help people a little confusion by the fusion just before of course we
01:10get a closer look at the Green Lantern member Simon Baz the tape measure first
01:13gonna tell us that the figure stands at 7 inches in height or Baz is gonna be
01:18about 18 centimeters tall like to go ahead and thank the folks over at
01:21McFarland toys that did provide this sample of new Simon Baz that we could
01:24have a look at this review now if you are confused with what exactly fused it
01:28was actually in fact Hal Jordan and Sinestro's rings that fused together and
01:32that amalgamation of a ring is the thing that sought out Simon Baz speaking of
01:36Jordan and speaking of Sinestro let's bring those in right now
01:40Sinestro has a little bit more of a modern spin on the suits whereas Hal
01:43Jordan's sort of stuck in the Silver Age he's about the same size I would say as
01:47Hal Jordan he seems like he's a little bit shorter though than Sinestro
01:51bringing other examples of the Green Lantern core and right now here's what
01:54the figure looks like with Jon Stewart and the recent addition to my collection
01:57Tomar Ray the Simon Baz that we're gonna be looking at in this review has the
02:01black outfit with the green accents there is also as well a platinum edition
02:05release of Baz that's gonna have instead the white boots and the white
02:08accents in his suit instead we're gonna be looking at him in an upcoming review
02:11in the meantime though back to the accessories that come included with
02:14Simon first the figure does have a trading card trading card first of all
02:17has a really nice image on the front of Simon Baz of course sporting his power
02:20ring sported also on the side of the card as well it says McFarland collectors
02:24edition if you look at the back of the card as I've already stated his name
02:27several times already his real name Simon Baz funny though enough that it's
02:31on the card but it's nowhere on the packaging the packaging only just listed
02:35as Green Lantern that's it I don't know why they didn't take the time to put
02:38Simon Baz on that there's also a quite a substantial read up you can pause you
02:43can read it for yourself but technically though I have already beaten you to it
02:46I have read at the beginning of this review no it's the least I can do no
02:50need to thank me no need to thank me let's put off to the side stop that
02:54figure also comes included with a display stand some frills now get added
02:58to the McFarland release the collectors editions because they now have a silver
03:01DC logo instead of just the black there's a peg to the far side that of
03:04course can plug into either of the boots of Simon Baz you have to choose one
03:07because you only get one peg unless you want to use two stands and that would
03:10just be ridiculous without the side now he is a lantern after all so of course
03:15it would be fitting that he does have one it's not though the exact same
03:18lantern is the one that we got with Abin Sur or Tomar Rays his actually has a
03:22larger opening on the top and it's a completely different mold I do like that
03:26each of the lanterns have unique lanterns that they don't have to have
03:29the exact same mold cast again now both of these are actually made of more of a
03:33translucent kind of gummier green plastic because they're always
03:37illuminated these are power lanterns and all I think it makes more sense that
03:40they're using a translucent plastic and not a matte green plastic instead of
03:45course you can't take the lantern fit into his existing hand he only has the
03:48one gripping hand that's the only downside because the figure doesn't also
03:52have any other swappable hands it leaves your choices pretty low like you're only
03:56really given the option of having the figure displayed with a lantern on this
03:59side this other hand is gonna be doing a lot of the work though it's gonna be
04:03accommodating pretty much all the accessories that well you shouldn't say
04:05all the accessories the hammer is still gonna be something that's gonna go on
04:08this hand speaking of the hammer seeing as we were talking about that if you
04:12wish to drop the hammer the figure does have one you don't have to worry that's
04:15gonna be hurting anybody either because the actual hammer is made of that same
04:19gummy kind of you know translucent green plastic you can kind of see really how
04:23gummy it actually is by how much bend there is now unfortunately though
04:27because they're using translucent green plastic you kind of see like the
04:29makings of the way that the hammer was put together it seems almost as if like
04:33the top of the head of the hammer is actually two halves that were kind of
04:36sandwiched together as opposed to casting this entire thing all in one
04:40mold doesn't actually look like it's a separate piece from the rest of the
04:43handle of the hammer nice little accessory though we don't tend to get
04:46things like this nor do we also get things like this the figure does also
04:50come included like a gauntlet almost looks like the infinity gauntlet cast
04:53again in translucent green plastic it also comes with a drill bits hand
04:57accessory as well now both of those will accommodate the hand that's on this side
05:02in case you are curious though I did want to bring in like let's bring in
05:05Hal Jordan for this if you did technically want to use these you have
05:08to use a lantern though that has a pretty small hand John Stewart's isn't
05:12gonna fit and I've noticed also as well like Tomar Ray I'm gonna bring in Tomar
05:15Ray here if you try to get for example that and fit it around his hand it just
05:19isn't gonna fit you can see the hand is way too big and yet though Hal Jordan
05:23don't tell me he's got small hands whatever you do his hand seems to be
05:26just the right size if you want to use that as well with him you can it is one
05:32of the things though I've noticed with with Simon here is that his hand is
05:35really small let's go ahead and actually just take the lantern out of his other
05:38hand I mean if you look at this hand and you look at this hand here it almost
05:42seems like they they belong from two completely different figures the hand
05:45really is a little bit laughably small but it has to be small that size because
05:49of course it has to be able to fit the gauntlet and it fits really well I mean
05:52like I don't I don't feel like I have to force that onto his forearm it stays
05:55pretty good of course if you want to do that also as well with his drill bit
05:59attachment that just fits this one you have to fight a little bit harder though
06:03to get around his hand but it just plugs in place like that ideally though I
06:07would have liked if they could have made the hand just a little bit bigger just a
06:10little bit bigger so that you could have used in these accessories with other
06:13green lanterns not just Hal Jordan alone because they're also using the
06:18translucency of this it looks like they actually glow nice little touch there
06:21let's remove that put that off to the side and of course the one last thing
06:26that comes in clue Simon Baz is the fact he has swappable face plates this
06:30is something that was kind of introduced at least to this channel I believe with
06:33the Huntress review we just looked at earlier in this week but now it seems to
06:36be a common trend that McFarlane is doing this a cost-saving measure I mean
06:40obviously it's a lot easier been to tool brand-new solid heads instead what they
06:44do instead instead what they do instead instead they give us a swappable face
06:48plates so if you want to have different expressions but obviously it's gonna be
06:52exact same head why do all of this when you can just do this part instead now of
06:57course he does have the grimaced face defaulted out of the packaging he has a
07:01neutral expression as well or if you also want this one he's got a smiling
07:05face I think if given the choice I mean I'm now having the option of being able
07:10to put this on my shelf my choice probably would be to go with this head
07:13sculpt because I like the smiling expression a little bit more changing
07:16out the face is super easy you're just gonna kind of get your finger on there
07:19kind of even helps if you kind of pull it from the chin and removing that that
07:23looks actually kind of interesting because it looks like you can still see
07:26a face a nose looks a little bit like the shadow thief anyways let's go ahead
07:30and just take the head pop that back in place you really want to make sure that
07:34you put enough pressure against that this has happened a couple of times
07:36obviously when we looked at the huntress I don't want this to happen again when
07:39you move in the head sometimes it may periodically remove the face plate you
07:43just have to go and just retrieve the person's face talk about real face off
07:47detail wise though for the mask I really like the way that this one looks
07:50not only do you have the darker green here but you got some nice outline
07:54brighter green all around this the green carries it's made it's what married
07:57little way down kind of gives us very much of a Tron looking green lantern
08:01it's actually one of my favorite modern looking green lantern suits it's
08:05different but it still keeps kind of the core idea of what a green lantern suit
08:08would be he's short sleeved though this time around whereas most of the green
08:12lanterns tend to have long sleeves but again like some really decent paints the
08:16only problem with that though is that the way they've done these socketed cup
08:20areas this is basically not there necessarily for articulation but just to
08:23kind of conceal the joint it does though unfortunately break up what would be a
08:27continued line across so it starts and goes all the way about here and then it
08:31has to stop abruptly to get across this point and it continues its way here I
08:35feel if anything instead of doing it in green I know obviously if it looks I mean
08:40if you have any arms down that I can see why they did it the way that they did so
08:44that looks a seamless line but the moment you move his arm up though it's
08:47gonna break that illusion colors overall for the most part look really good I like
08:52the look of the the green lantern symbol there on the front this is actually
08:55painted it's not raised from the rest of his body so my guess is they're doing
08:59that probably because they can use the body again for other figures from a body
09:02standpoint he's got a good wide build to him I would really like to see this mold
09:06if it hasn't been used already released for other DC multiverse figures down the
09:10road for the rest of the figure it's generally all black for a suit I mean
09:14obviously he does have green boots down below here as well very very similar
09:17style of boots in fact to Hal Jordan which bring those in so you guys can see
09:20I mean in fact looking at them I would not be surprised at all to say that
09:25probably is the exact same leg sculpt maybe maybe he's got a little bit of a
09:29bigger knee but it looks like it's similar thighs and similar lower legs
09:32that they probably used the same for Green Lantern Hal Jordan now for the
09:35figures articulation going back to Simon's head the head rotates all the
09:39way around it looks up really high and looks down really low you can also rock
09:44it back and forth as well the upper torso is gonna be on a ball joint the
09:47lower abdomen is also the same the arms rotate all the way around all the way
09:52around on this side too you can hinge the arms out beyond the point of 90
09:55degrees he has a swivel there at the bicep a double hinge on the elbow and
09:59can't help but also point out the fact he does also have the marking there on
10:02his arm as well it does have the Green Lantern ring can't overlook that either
10:07and the hands do rotate all the way around now for Simon's legs they split
10:11out once again relying on a ball ratcheted joint on the inside you can
10:14take the legs and move forward move them back swivel at the top of the thigh
10:17double hinge of course on the knees there's no articulation here for the
10:21boot I don't think he necessarily needs it either upper torso or upper ankle
10:25pivots and ankle rocker there as well and the figure does also have like all
10:28the usual figures they have toe articulation so if you are one that gets
10:32excited for toe articulation this guy's got it as well all in all like nice
10:36looking figure if not for maybe the fact that his one little hand and I look it's
10:40it is a pretty tiny looking hand it has to be there obviously just so to
10:44accommodate the idea that he's it got these extra accessories that can go over
10:47top of it that those same accessories to one of the ones that one of the figures
10:52of the Green Lantern I knows had a very similar small hand was Hal Jordan so you
10:56know again you can this one's a little bit tighter but you can get this also
10:59around maybe even like the gauntlet works the best with Hal Jordan you can
11:02get that on him as well so if he wants to get a power punch you can do that too
11:05lots of cool accessories go along with Simon Bass here the thing that's fun
11:09also about this figure is he's also one of those figure that gets a swappable
11:12faceplate I mean it seems to be gone the day now where we have to get like
11:16several heads I mean that's more expensive obviously for Todd and his
11:19team to produce creating faceplates gets still the same job across I mean
11:24obviously instead of having to replace an entire head I mean it's so much
11:26easier for a collector as well just to remove faceplates and the fact that
11:30Simon Bass has three of them is a nice touch on Todd's part wrapping up now the
11:34review for Simon I've got the character displayed with the drill bit hand on one
11:37side and the hammer in the other just in case you are also curious as well the
11:42platinum edition of Simon Bass is gonna have the exact same accessories so the
11:46only thing that's really changed is cosmetic between the two characters the
11:49regular release of Simon is gonna have the green accents on the black suit the
11:53platinum edition is gonna have the white accents I think really the green one is
11:57the one that fits better I feel for my collection but of course we will be
12:00looking at the platinum edition of Simon Bass in an upcoming review
12:03accessories are good unfortunately though with the accessories at least two
12:06of them it does result in the character having really a small hand on one side
12:10just so it fits the drill bit hand properly and of course the gauntlet now
12:15the gauntlet worked a little bit better with Hal Jordan I still kind of
12:17struggled a little bit get the drill on there I really wish that they could have
12:21made though the accessories and the hand of Simon just a little bit bigger so
12:24then I could share around all the accessories this guy gets some pretty
12:27cool ones I'd like to be able though to be able to share those with the other
12:30green lanterns I have on my shelf currently paint is done nicely here on
12:34Simon he's got some really cool-looking neon green outlining I mean it does
12:39break up a little bit the moment you start to move his arm if you have his
12:41arms draped to a side and parallel to his body then you can see why they did
12:45it the way that they did paint on the face is good whether you use this face
12:49sculpt with a smiling expression or the other two again it's really cool now
12:53that we're getting figures that have swappable face plates from speaking as
12:56somebody that had to struggle especially when we're looking at Tomar Ray and
12:59Abin Sur's body remember well of course in that review popping off the head
13:03every single time resulted in usually the ball peg going along with it this
13:07makes things so much easier obviously for the coloring of Tomar Ray and Abin Sur
13:12it would have never worked to have swappable faces but it works very well
13:15with a character like Simon Baz what do you guys think of the character let me
13:19know down below in the comment section have you had the chance to pick up this
13:21one or the platinum edition of Baz a big thank you again to the folks over at
