There are only two kinds of businesses—those that have been attacked by cybercriminals... and those that will be.

That’s the warning from Christian Espinosa, CEO of Blue Goat Cyber and author of The Smartest Person in the Room: The Root Cause and New Solution for Cybersecurity.

In this episode of The Mason Duchatschek Show, we explore the uncomfortable truth that phishing attacks, ransomware, and hackers aren’t just threats—they’re inevitable. The question isn’t if it will happen, it’s when—and how prepared you’ll be when it does.

Have you asked the hard "what if" questions?
Do you have a response plan in place?
Or are you just hoping it won’t happen to you?

This conversation could save your company.

Key Takeaways
✅ There are two types of businesses: those who’ve been hacked and those who will be

00:00So I think one of the questions a business owner should be asking is, when we have a data breach or a cyber attack against our environment, what are we going to do in the business?
00:08And what is the real cost to the business?
00:10If you actually sit down and ask the question, what happens if we have a data breach?
00:16And let's say it's ransomware and it takes our systems offline for three days and work through that answer.
00:20It's probably going to make you realize, yeah, we should probably invest some in cybersecurity because maybe we can't even afford to be down three days.
00:26Maybe we don't even have a method to recover our data.
00:29But you have to ask these questions and walk through an exercise in order to really understand the true risk without asking those questions.
00:38Everyone just assumes like it's not going to happen to me or if it happens, we'll just say antivirus will catch it or something without really understanding the real ramifications.
