Cloud and rain spreading across Northern Ireland, reaching the far northwest of Scotland, west coast of Wales and far southwest of England by dawn. Cloud increasing too across eastern England and eastern Scotland, producing the odd spot of rain. Largely clear skies elsewhere, allowing conditions to turn rather chilly but staying milder under the cloud and rain. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 24/04/2025. 00:00Thanks for joining me for your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:03For most it's going to be a dry and coolish night, but the main exception will be Northern Ireland,
00:08where we are going to see wet weather moving in, and once it's arrived, it's going to last for most of Friday.
00:14It's a weather front which is creeping its way across Northern Ireland during the evening,
00:18and that rain turning heavier and more persistent as the night goes on.
00:22Eventually, some of it will creep into southwest Scotland.
00:25We may see the odd splash on the west coast of Wales, perhaps the far southwest of England too.
00:30The cloud's thick enough for a little drizzle over eastern counties of England and Scotland, perhaps.
00:35It's quite a lot of cloud here by morning time.
00:38In between, the clearest skies allowing the lowest temperatures, temperatures tumbling down well into the single digits in many urban areas,
00:46and rural spots, well, we may even see a few pockets of frost.
00:50Not as cold further west here because of the breeze, because of the cloud, because of the outbreaks of rain,
00:54which will persist for most of the day across Northern Ireland.
00:56Quite a soggy day here, really.
00:59Some heavy bursts of rain likely, particularly over the Sparrens and the Mourns,
01:03and so that rain really building up across southern parts of Northern Ireland by the end of the day.
01:07Rain at times on the west coast of Scotland, particularly for the Outer Hebrides,
01:11but elsewhere many places dry.
01:13Maybe the odd shower creeping up into Wales, perhaps Cornwall.
01:17The islands are silly, but generally England, Wales, much of central and eastern Scotland, dry and bright.
01:21Yes, some cloud will bubble up through the day, but there will be some decent spells of sunshine.
01:26After a cloudy start, things should cheer up in the east coast,
01:28but if the breeze is still coming in from the North Sea, it's going to peg those temperatures back,
01:32struggling to get into double digits.
01:34A cooler feel for Northern Ireland with the breeze and the rain.
01:3810 or 11 at best here, and same goes for the west coast of Scotland once the rain's set here.
01:42But elsewhere, temperature's about average, maybe a touch high with some sunny spells.
01:46We could squeak into the high teens in places.
01:50Through Friday evening, that weather front, that zone of wet weather,
01:54will continue to very slowly creep its way into more parts of western Scotland.
01:59Maybe a little bit of showery rain for northwest England.
02:01More coming in for southwest England, south Wales too.
02:05But many eastern areas staying dry.
02:07And in fact, for most of Saturday, a good chunk of eastern England will have another dry and fine day.
02:12And it should be a brighter day for Northern Ireland as well.
02:14The rain clearing away from here, so some good spells of sunshine.
02:17Just a small chance of an afternoon shower.
02:20We'll see the cloud breaking up a little across central and western parts of England, Wales and Scotland.
02:25But still some showers possible during the afternoon.
02:27But for many places, again, much of Saturday looking dry.
02:31And temperatures again looking about average, getting into the mid or high teens with a bit of sunshine.
02:35But as always, this time of year, the wind direction is crucial.
02:39If you get it coming in from the sea, that will peg those temperatures back.
02:42Because the sea is still pretty cold at the moment.
02:45Saturday evening, we won't see a great deal of change.
02:47But behind me, you'll notice there is a bit more in the way of wet weather gathering.
02:51A set of weather fronts moving in.
02:53The ice above squidging together as well.
02:55So that means the breeze will pick up for Sunday across Northern Ireland, western Scotland.
03:00These weather fronts will provide some outbreaks of rain here.
03:02But elsewhere, high pressure dominating and temperatures on the rise warming up across a good chunk of England and Wales as we head into Sunday.
