Love Your School: We Visit Pontesbury Primary School, outside of Shrewsbury.
Transcript
00:00I love the family feel that we've got here. The school community is fantastic, a lot of our staff have been here for a really long time and they really do care about the children. What we do also have is our children caring about each other, so our year sixes really nurture the children that are coming through and set really good role models and good standards for them and I like our real calm but motivated environment as well and I hope as you've walked around our school you've really felt that as well.
00:27Originally I was a teaching assistant here, I qualified as a teacher and fortunately there weren't any roles here for me and I continually checked for a job coming up and eventually the deputy head position came up. I was really fortunate to get that and really really excited and then a few circumstances led to me becoming the head teacher and I feel like I really have a feel of what goes on for every role here at the school and I wouldn't be anywhere else because it's a fantastic school.
00:55So we really have looked at every aspect of our school to try and improve it and break times, lunch times, things that might get overlooked we've looked, we've analysed and we've wanted to improve them.
01:06So with the support of our friends and our school community we've managed to raise some funds and get some support in to develop this. We've developed a whole site so we've opened that site up completely. It was a bit of a concrete jungle beforehand but now we've got a small world play, we've got big box building, we've got fancy dress, we've got a disco that goes on, we've got sports, we've got a mini village.
01:28We've got more in the pipelines to be built and we're really excited about it but we've also seen that it can have a real positive effect on behaviour, mental health, friendships, it's a really great opportunity for every child that joins our school and enjoys the play times.
01:42So Mary Webb's just across the road from us, literally across the road from us and you can see that there's a real strong link there. A lot of our year sixes go to that school so that's a really nice transition and we do a lot of work with, for example, their D&T department, through STEM, a lot of our science as well, some maths and things.
02:00We've also just recently had a science fair and some of their teachers came across and helped teach our children and all credit to Mary Webb, they've really thought out the process of transition.
02:10So the transition now, as well as just being a couple of days across the school, supports those children with SEMH needs as well and that's something we're really positive and has had a great benefit for all of our children.
02:20We're really, really proud of the Ofsted. We don't do anything for Ofsted but it's nice to be recognised by the Ombudsman to say what we've completed and what we've done.
02:30I think we're really proud of, we've got three areas of good and two areas that are outstanding. One of those is our EYFS which is quoted as saying children here get the best possible start and also about our nurturing environment.
02:42We have worked really hard to create the best possible offer for all of our children here and that's all credit to all of the staff and our school community.
