00:00Now that's the kind of Kal-El I remember as a kid. Here's a look at McFarlane Toys, DC Multiverse, McFarlane Toys Digital, Silver Age, Superman.
00:08Superman is the world's greatest hero. He is a tireless champion dedicated to protecting life and battling injustice not only in his city metropolis, but all over the adopted world and across the universe.
00:37With his fantastic powers and abilities, fueled by the alien cells which hyper-efficiently process the solar energy of Earth's yellow sun, Superman is an unstoppable force for good and a steadfast punisher of evil.
00:49Superman is a founding member of the Justice League, an inspiration to countless other heroes continuing into the 31st century and beyond.
00:58Well, it may have taken many years, but do we have a perfect Man of Steel? Maybe before we answer that, though, let's take the tape measure and see how tall the Silver Age Superman stands.
01:05I did actually order this one from Amazon, probably the only time I've had success lately ordering from the site.
01:11It seems lately, though, whenever they have a DC Multiverse listing and it currently shows in stock, I order it, then it sits for a couple of days and I wonder what the shipping date's going to be.
01:20And then the item just out of nowhere becomes out of stock.
01:24If you've had similar issues, let me know down below.
01:26In the meantime, though, as for the heights of Supes, the figure is in fact going to stand at 7 inches in height.
01:31And that's going to translate, though, to a figure that's 18 centimeters tall.
01:36Yeah, several years later and several Supes later.
01:38I'm going to just bring in a couple of examples.
01:40Here's what the figure looks like, probably with the most recognizable Superman we've gotten from the entire DC Multiverse line.
01:45This happens to be the Action Comics release.
01:47This version of Superman, I think, has now gotten four releases.
01:49The one I'm just using as the example right now is the most recent one sporting as well a fabric cape.
01:55Here's the one that wasn't sporting a fabric cape, a figure that still wasn't on the fence as to whether I actually liked it or not.
02:00This is the DC Classics Superman.
02:03He's got a classic-looking suit, but not a classic-looking mold.
02:06In fact, actually, the mold's been used a couple of times already.
02:08One thing I will say right out the gate that I like about the new release of Superman is that his mold seems unique to him.
02:14He's not boring it over from other figures we've gotten from before.
02:18Of course, boring over from before, the figure does come in clear with the display stand.
02:21The display stand, because it is McFarlane Toys Digital, now has the marker down below.
02:25It does have a peg right to the far corner.
02:27See? Right there.
02:28That could plug into either one of Superman's boots.
02:31The figure does also come included with a McFarlane Digital card, which, again, we've seen this a couple of times already.
02:37The front of the card doesn't say all that much, but on the back of the card, it tells you much more.
02:42Go to www.mtd.gg to download the McFarlane Toys Digital Viewer app for your Mac or PC.
02:48Scratch over the above section, which I'll be scratching over in a second, to reveal your one-time use code.
02:54Create your account and log in, then use the redeem code in the left corner of the screen and follow the instructions in the pop-up window.
03:01Just between you and me, though, and the other five people watching, I don't have yet to actually use one of these.
03:06Most of the time, usually, when I'm doing reviews like this, I end up just scratching it away, and I just give it all away to any person that's lucky enough to first use the digital code.
03:14I'm going to do the exact same thing right now.
03:16Even though I seem to have changed my format when it comes to clipping the little twist ties for the figure, I'm still going to bring back in my nail clippers here.
03:23I'm just going to scratch away the surface.
03:25And one lucky viewer...
03:27That's the least I can do. No need to thank me.
03:30One lucky viewer will, though, be able to use the coupon code or the digital code and redeem it on their site.
03:36You've got it right there.
03:37B-N-B-H-C-H-S-G-A-O-U-H-L-K.
03:42Okay, that's for anybody that had their eyes currently closed.
03:45Let's move that off to the side.
03:47Okay, so Superman comes included with a trading card.
03:49I love this card.
03:51As a kid, though, certainly growing up, Superman being my all-time favorite superhero,
03:55this kind of imaging that they used made many appearances in the DC Comics media.
04:01Whether it be light brights, whether it be t-shirts, comic books, stickers, anything you could think of in the 80s,
04:08usually had this look to Superman.
04:09I'm trying to even think of...
04:12Was there, like, a Zellers commercial?
04:13No, I think that was Batman.
04:14That was Batman.
04:15Just a classic look to Superman.
04:17And I feel like they sort of have taken some cues, obviously, from the illustration here.
04:21The back of the card, though, is also something I really like.
04:23His debut is Action Comics Vol. 1, No. 1, June 1938.
04:27And the paragraph read is a fitting read for Superman.
04:30It's not just like...
04:31We're just going to say, like, you know,
04:33lone survivor of the distant planet of Krypton,
04:36you know, saved by Martha and Jonathan Kent.
04:38All the stuff we already know of Superman.
04:40And paragraph reads we've usually read before.
04:43This seems to be, like, one that's very unique to this Superman.
04:45And I'm sure it has made appearances,
04:48but this is one of the few times that I actually recognized this paragraph.
04:51Or, you know, first time I haven't recognized this paragraph.
04:53Let's move the card off to the side.
04:55I'm going to, by the way, put it in my sheet protectors.
04:58The figure does also have some swappable hands.
05:00Now, I will be admitting, though,
05:02the figure doesn't have really much in the way of the accessories.
05:04Outside of, really, the display stand and the trading card,
05:07and I know many people probably wouldn't consider a trading card to be an accessory,
05:10the only other thing that Superman has at his disposal
05:12are a pair of relaxed hands, or flying hands.
05:15Yet, though, the figure doesn't come include with a flight stand.
05:17Now, if you've collected these as long as I have over the years,
05:21I mean, flight stands, I've got probably, like,
05:23I'm even looking at a couple of ones right over here right now.
05:25You probably could just use a flight stand.
05:27Now, I know some people,
05:28first time going into collecting DC Multiverse figures,
05:31would say right away,
05:32hey, I cry foul.
05:33I wanted a display stand, a flight stand,
05:36to come include with a figure,
05:37and I certainly get that.
05:38What we unfortunately get, though, instead,
05:40is just, again, a pair of swappable hands.
05:42If you're looking not to display Superman,
05:44maybe with his arms to his side like that,
05:45that's a stoic look to Supes.
05:48Also, you can clearly go in there and just remove the hands,
05:50just easily detach from the pegs.
05:52Take the hand that you want to use.
05:54I'm not going to do it on both sides,
05:55but I'll just do it on one side.
05:56There's the hole, there's the peg.
05:58Plug it in place.
05:59Now Superman has himself a flying hand.
06:02Again, you can, you know, again,
06:03just use a flight stand.
06:04If you happen to have a flight stand,
06:05if your friends have a couple of flight stands,
06:07just sort of keep making this suggestion to them.
06:09Hey, man, I can't help but notice
06:10you've got a whole bunch of flight stands right over there.
06:13And, you know, again,
06:14point to the stack that he has in a box over there.
06:16And maybe he just might take pity on you
06:18and just give you one of his.
06:19But yeah, well, unfortunately,
06:21not having one of those at his disposal,
06:23Superman's only just going to, unfortunately,
06:24have to stand like this all the time.
06:26Now, don't worry.
06:27Of course, the figure does have some posability.
06:28We'll talk about more in a moment.
06:29But let's go to talking right away
06:31about Superman's head sculpt.
06:32No more of a classic look to Superman
06:34as we're getting right here.
06:36I mean, again, like for me,
06:37I know I hate to be the broken record.
06:39And I say this a lot in these reviews.
06:41When we've looked at a Superman,
06:42whether it be like the Action Comics release of Superman,
06:45which I've usually said,
06:46this is my go-to Superman.
06:48And to that,
06:49to the point of releasing this figure,
06:50that I might have still held true at saying that.
06:53I also was a really big fan of the DC Reborn Superman,
06:55which I probably should have also brought in as well.
06:58For a while,
06:59like this was my go-to Supes figure.
07:01One thing I really like about this figure right away
07:03is he's got a classic look to his face.
07:06I mean, it's one of those figures
07:07that looks good from all sides.
07:09Of course, he's got the classic Superman curl.
07:11And one thing I really like
07:12is that they've also gone in there
07:13and painted his hair blue.
07:15Superman from a lot of press media
07:16usually would have had blue in his hair.
07:18They haven't gone to the extreme
07:19where you're looking at that thinking,
07:20hey, that's just unnecessary amounts of blue.
07:23Now, it's just the right amount of it
07:25without being too excessive.
07:27But the face sculpt is classic.
07:28I mean, again,
07:29like there's not really much
07:30I would have changed the face.
07:32And like, it's one of those cases too,
07:33where you're looking at a figure like this.
07:35I know we've done this with previous reviews
07:37of these DC Multiverse figures,
07:39where you can kind of look at the body
07:40and you're like, okay, well,
07:41they would have used the torso
07:42maybe from the hushed Superman,
07:43or maybe they would have used the sleeves
07:45because the sleeves would have had always like,
07:47well, you know, again,
07:48like bringing in the action comics releases Superman.
07:50Like this section right here,
07:52you can start to point out
07:53on other figure releases.
07:54This Superman had, for example,
07:56a lot of issues with it
07:57looking like he's missed leg day.
07:58This one now doesn't have that at all.
08:01I feel like I think this is the first time
08:03we've gotten this mold.
08:04Now, again, this mold's already now,
08:05being that this is the first time
08:06perhaps this buck's been introduced,
08:08it's already now seen light of day.
08:10We've already gotten this one.
08:11We've got the Max Fleischer Superman,
08:12the 30 Superman that we're getting.
08:14I think also even Kingdom Come Superman.
08:16The Page Puncher's release
08:17is also going to be using
08:18the same old mold as well.
08:19The sleeves look clean.
08:20They look finished.
08:21It doesn't look like there's a mold
08:23that's being bored over
08:23from something else.
08:25The torso is classic.
08:26Of course, you've got
08:26the Superman emblem there.
08:27Not necessarily raised.
08:29I don't feel it needs to be raised either.
08:31Just printing on the chest
08:32is more than enough for me.
08:34Classic looking, of course,
08:34Superman trunks in the red.
08:36You've got the oval-shaped belt.
08:38I prefer the oval-shaped belt
08:39myself rather than a Superman emblem.
08:41I don't feel like if he's got it up here,
08:43he doesn't need it down here as well.
08:45And classic looking Superman boots
08:47with the end there on the top.
08:49So again, look at this.
08:50I don't think anything's been
08:51borrowed over from another figure.
08:53I think this might be
08:54the first time we've gotten this mold.
08:56You guys certainly let me know
08:57down below in the case
08:59if that's not the case at all.
09:01Now, of course,
09:01the figure does also have a cloth cape.
09:03Right away, again,
09:04I love the idea that these figures
09:05now have cloth capes,
09:06plastic capes,
09:07sort of out the window now
09:08when it comes to these figures.
09:09I mean, DC,
09:10certainly when it came to,
09:11for example,
09:12the action comic Superman,
09:13they felt the need to update this guy
09:14to finally give him a cloth cape.
09:16And it just seems really like
09:17the norm moving forward
09:18that all the now figures
09:20seem to have fabric capes.
09:22It's not just fabric alone either.
09:23Obviously, Superman has the emblem
09:24there on the back.
09:25I know a lot of people
09:26really miss the fact
09:27that a lot of Superman figures
09:28don't tend to have that.
09:30I like that this guy does.
09:31He's got the wire
09:31that's running down the side here.
09:33It's not down the bottom though,
09:34so at least the cape sits more relaxed.
09:36And then it's wired down here as well.
09:38So between that,
09:39you can actually get this guy.
09:40And what am I going to do?
09:41I'm only going to curve the side.
09:42Yeah, yeah.
09:43Again, if you want to have it
09:44displayed like that,
09:44you could probably do a little bit more
09:45than what I'm just doing right here.
09:46I'm not going to spend 15,
09:4920 minutes, 25 minutes
09:51trying to make the cape look perfect.
09:53It's just to show you guys though,
09:55again, like there's a wire right there.
09:57For the figures articulation,
09:58going back to Soup's head.
10:00Head's going to be on a bowl joint,
10:01so it allows the head
10:02to rotate all the way around.
10:03The head for the bowl joint
10:05really does give
10:06not as high of a reach
10:07as I really would have hoped,
10:09but factoring in that
10:10there's so much sculpting
10:11and hair on the back
10:11of his body like this,
10:13it's next to impossible.
10:14There's no way he'd be able
10:14to move his head
10:15any further up than this.
10:16The head looks down,
10:17but that low,
10:18and then you can also move it
10:19back and forth as well.
10:21The arms do rotate
10:21all the way around.
10:22I couldn't help but
10:23notice getting this guy
10:24out of the packaging
10:24that this arm and this arm
10:26are loose.
10:27They shouldn't be so loose
10:29getting them out of the packaging.
10:30I mean, like, you know,
10:31I shouldn't be able to
10:32do this so quickly.
10:34Maybe, yeah,
10:35in a couple hours,
10:35maybe a couple of days,
10:36maybe a couple of weeks later,
10:37they should develop looseness.
10:39But they are a little loose.
10:40Not that the arms
10:41will drop down.
10:41I mean, I can still
10:42pull off a full T-pose.
10:44They're not going to drop
10:45at all, but I mean,
10:46I do feel like there's
10:47some looseness already
10:48developing on the figure
10:48in so very little time
10:50I've had this guy
10:51in the packaging.
10:52Now, he does have
10:53the bicep swivel here
10:54right out here as well.
10:55I don't know,
10:56like, I'm looking at the arms.
10:58Maybe they were also used
10:58for the Christopher Reeves
10:59Superman.
11:00I'm kind of, like,
11:01recognizing these hinge joints
11:03right here as maybe
11:04the Page Puncher's
11:05cell-shaded Superman.
11:06But he does have
11:07a double hinge on the elbow.
11:09Of course, the hands
11:10do rotate all the way around
11:11whether you want to use
11:11these hands or not.
11:13Upper torso on a very good
11:14generous ball joint.
11:15The same could be said
11:16for the lower ball joint as well.
11:18Legs split out,
11:18about that far.
11:19You can take Supes' legs
11:20and move them forward.
11:21You can move them back.
11:23He has a swivel there
11:23at the top of the thigh.
11:24Double hinge on the knee.
11:26No articulation,
11:27surprisingly enough.
11:28Now, it's not to say
11:29that the boots
11:30aren't attached
11:30as separate pieces
11:31because it doesn't look
11:33like they're actually painted.
11:34So, it looks perhaps
11:35like the calf is a separate piece
11:37from the rest of the boot
11:38down below.
11:38But, obviously,
11:39there's a little bit
11:40of a swivel.
11:40I don't expect anybody
11:42really want this figure
11:43to have full boot rotation.
11:44I think that's rather silly.
11:46What's not silly, though,
11:47is the figure does have
11:47an ankle pivot,
11:48an ankle rocker.
11:50And yet, with every other Superman
11:51seems to be the case,
11:52the figure does also have
11:53toe articulation as well.
11:55One of the best?
11:56Perhaps the best?
11:57I guess it really depends
11:58on really how you'd like
11:59to have your Superman.
12:00Some people prefer
12:01like the DC Rebirth Superman
12:03as like their go-to figure.
12:04Some people like
12:05a more serious-looking Superman
12:07that doesn't have
12:08the trunks, for example.
12:10Now, I'm trying to think
12:11of really any other figure
12:12that looks as good
12:14as this Supes.
12:15I mean, again,
12:16there's also the DC Classics.
12:18Honestly, I didn't really
12:18like the face.
12:19I thought also, too,
12:20the coloring of his costume
12:21was a little too light.
12:23For the while, though,
12:24I mean, really, again,
12:25the action comic Superman
12:26was where it was at for me.
12:27And it's still like, for me,
12:29this is one of the earliest
12:30figures I had in my collection,
12:31not obviously with
12:32the fabric cape.
12:33So he has still
12:34a soft spot in my heart.
12:35I will say, though,
12:36like from a classic standpoint
12:38of Superman
12:38and the fact that
12:40looking at his body,
12:41I'm not looking at parts
12:42to his body and thinking,
12:42okay, yeah, yeah,
12:43I remember that
12:44from this figure.
12:45I remember that
12:45from this figure.
12:46Like from head to toe,
12:47he feels complete.
12:48He feels complete.
12:49He feels finished.
12:50He doesn't feel
12:50borrowed over.
12:51It's not to say
12:52that the figure's mold
12:52wasn't borrowed over
12:53from another release.
12:54Again, I'm like looking at this,
12:56maybe some aspects
12:57to Christopher Reeve.
12:57I don't really know.
12:58But what I do know, though,
12:59is if you are a fan
13:00of like the DC Classics figures,
13:02like we're talking
13:03like way back in the 80s.
13:05And for me,
13:05like I still remember
13:06like having a lot
13:07of Superman merchandise
13:08in my room.
13:09I have even like
13:09a Superman,
13:10Super Friends,
13:11I think it was
13:12Super Friends Light Bright,
13:13where again,
13:14like once you really
13:15started putting the pegs
13:16in the paper,
13:17they never really
13:17looked the same again.
13:18I mean, you could
13:18follow the pattern.
13:19You can make it try
13:20to look as best
13:21to looking like Superman.
13:21But after a while,
13:22it just looked
13:23like Swiss cheese.
13:24This is a perfect
13:25looking Superman.
13:26I like the colors.
13:27I like the face.
13:28I like that they also
13:29added blue in his hair
13:30as well.
13:30All the things that evoke
13:32the classic 80s Superman
13:33for me.
13:34It may not be
13:34everyone's Superman,
13:36but it's certainly
13:36a Superman for me.
13:39Right around ordering
13:40Superman off of Amazon,
13:41I happen to also order
13:42the Max Fleischer Superman
13:44off of the Facebook
13:45selling group.
13:46So probably this week
13:47as well,
13:48we will be looking
13:48at the 30s Superman.
13:50And I'm sure
13:50I'll also be talking
13:51about the fact
13:52that they seem
13:52to be using
13:53the exact same mold.
13:54Obviously, though,
13:55the symbol on Fleischer's
13:56Superman is going to be
13:57a little bit different
13:57than we're getting here
13:58on this version.
13:59But it certainly
14:00does make use of
14:01what is probably
14:02one of the best molds
14:02that we've gotten.
14:03I don't look at Superman
14:04like I'm sure many people
14:06also won't be looking
14:07at Superman
14:07and thinking right away,
14:08boy, he's missed
14:08leg day,
14:09which really was
14:10the only other issue
14:11that the action comic
14:12Superman would have said.
14:13I mean, like,
14:14he was good for the top
14:15of the torso,
14:16but he wasn't so good
14:17for the lower half
14:17of his body.
14:18It definitely looked
14:19like he was missing
14:20leg day.
14:21This Superman does feel
14:22complete from top to bottom.
14:23A good looking head sculpt,
14:24a cloth cape,
14:25which also benefits
14:26this figure now as well.
14:28If, I mean,
14:29if you've kind of
14:29been looking around
14:30and kind of thinking
14:31to yourself,
14:31you know,
14:31I just really want
14:33to have a definitive
14:34Superman that I recognized
14:35as a kid.
14:36Take it only from
14:37my personal opinion,
14:38this is probably
14:39the best one
14:39that we've gotten
14:40from McFarlane Toys.
14:41And, you know,
14:42again, it kind of,
14:43it's one thing I seem
14:44to keep saying now
14:45with these recent
14:45DC Multiverse reviews.
14:47It seems like
14:48as we're getting
14:48near the end
14:49of the figure's lifespan
14:50and how much longer
14:51of a license
14:51the McFarlane Toys
14:52has for this property,
14:54we seem to be getting
14:54some of the best
14:55figures ever.
14:57I mean,
14:57if you've missed
14:58your chance
14:58over the years
14:59of collecting
14:59DC Multiverse
15:00and you thought
15:01to yourself,
15:01I don't know
15:01where to start now,
15:03start really first
15:04with the figures
15:04that we're getting now.
15:06And maybe you can
15:06always just go back
15:07and get those
15:07deep cut characters.
15:09But, like,
15:09I don't think
15:10there's really been
15:10a better Superman
15:11than what we're
15:12looking at right now.
15:14Do you guys agree?
15:14Do you guys disagree?
15:16Let me know
15:16what you guys think
15:16of this Superman
15:17down below
15:17in the comments section.
15:18If you certainly
15:19do disagree,
15:20what do you think
15:20is the best Superman
15:21we've gotten
15:21from Todd
15:22and his team.
15:23Like I said,
15:24this one is available
15:25right now
15:25either in stores
15:26if you're lucky
15:26enough to find
15:27these in stores
15:27or you can also
15:28shop around
15:28to places online.
15:30You know,
15:30again,
15:30just take my word
15:31of advice.
15:32Be careful,
15:32though,
15:33ordering from Amazon
15:33because,
15:34again,
15:34while it may look
15:35like something's
15:35in stock,
15:36this also happened
15:37to me as well
15:38when I was trying
15:39to get the regular
15:39Two-Face.
15:40I placed the order,
15:41it said it was
15:42being shipped,
15:42it said Tuesday,
15:43or I think it was
15:44like Thursday,
15:45was the estimated
15:45ship day.
15:47And then it just,
15:47I missed Thursday,
15:48I went back to look
15:51and then it said
15:52temporarily out of stock.
15:54What happened?
15:55Certainly,
15:55though,
15:56if you want to see
15:56what else happens
15:57for the rest of this
15:58channel's reviews
15:59for this week,
16:00make sure,
16:00first of all,
16:01if you guys did
16:01enjoy this video,
16:02do it a solid
16:02and throw it a like.
16:03But if you guys
16:04do want to stick around

16:06and I certainly hope so,
