How to Resist Overeating? - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. In order to resist the urge to overeat its first very important to make sure that you are satisfied at your meal. A good way to do that is to make sure you include plenty of fiber and protein, because those two nutrients really help improve satiety while you are eating. It is also important to start with the portion that you want to eat. So start with a portion that is the amount that you do not want to go over. For a lot of resturant meals that will be about half of what they serve you. So it is a good idea to split the meal with a friend or just cut it in half and immediately put half of it in a box and so you are starting with the portion you want to eat. And then you want to eat really slowly, chew really well, take your time, enjoy your food so that you feel, your body can send that signal to your stomach that you are full. You actually want stop eating once your not hungry anymore, and do not wait until you actually feel full, because by that time your a little bit over full and you will notice fifteen minutes later that you are over full. So you want to kind of stop once you are not hungry anymore. And then another thing you can do is stop at that point and if you still have the urge to overeat, wait fifteen minutes and tell yourself if you are still hungry in fifteen minutes you can keep eating. Usally by fifteen minutes later you will be on to something else and you will not want to keep eating. Make sure you move the plate out of your way so you do not have that there tempting you. You are more likely to pick at it when it is just sitting there in front of you. Another good thing to do is to start chewing some sugar free gum right after your meal. It is hard to still be hungry for food when you have that sweet in your mouth, that is kind of like a dessert, it is calorie free and it kind of ends the meal for you.
