The New Republic's Kate Middleton Cover Stirs Controversy - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.

We all know that pictures of men and women on magazine covers are digitally enhanced and altered to make the models look flawlessly attractive in order to sell more copies of the issue. But the July 2012 issue of The New Republic decided to go a different route with their cover photo of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge. The weekly magazine contained a cover article about the future of the United Kingdom, and featured a faded and shabby UK flag, known as the Union Jack, and a picture of Kate Middleton on the cover that had been digitally manipulated to make the Duchess look like she had yellow, rotten teeth.

While the magazine's cover is a satirical play on UK's declining economy, many are upset over Kate's portrayal. She is widely considered a fashion icon, with the media and her fans observing over every detail of her outfits and style.

What do you think - was The New Republic's cover a deft way to convey a point or did it go too far?
