World's Most Expensive Coffee Made From Elephant Dung

Elephants help make this coffee the world's most expensive.

One of the most expensive cups of coffee in the world is made from beans that have been eaten, digested and excreted by elephants. Known as black ivory, the coffee is sold at around 50 dollars for a single cup and is only available at resorts in the Maldives and Thailand called Anantara hotels.

The resort released a statement regarding the process of coffee production and why it is the most effective method saying, "research indicates that during digestion, the enzymes of the elephant break down coffee protein. Since protein is one of the main factors responsible for bitterness in coffee, less protein means almost no bitterness."

A similar process for removing coffee’s bitterness is taking the beans from civet dung and processing them to be brewed into the second most expensive cup of coffee in the world, selling for a retail price of around 30 dollars per cup.

Civets are nocturnal, furry, cat like mammals that are found in South East Asia and Africa.

Would you drink coffee brewed from dung?
