Recently a good-sized piece of the bluff broke off, leaving the residence partially dangling over the edge. According to Hill County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Mark Wilson, the latest section fell away on Tuesday, leaving the house in a dire situation.
As the land underneath collapsed, parts of the house fell into the waters below, leaving the bulk waiting for a similar fate. Fortunately the residence is vacant, as the former occupants left when they realized the bluff is unstable.
Access to the 4,000 square foot structure has been portioned off. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were stationed in the water behind the house to prevent boaters from getting too close.
No demolition efforts are scheduled, but instead local officials have decided to allow nature to take its course. Eventually the remainder of the house will naturally fall into the lake.
Electricity to the residence has been shut off. According to tax records, the home was built in 2007 and is valued at over $700,000. The owners will reportedly be financially responsible for the clean-up.
