The incident occurred around 8am in broad daylight outside a Manhattan correctional facility for men. The man grabbed the female victim from behind.
She was able to briefly break free from his hold and attempted to run off but the suspect promptly caught her.
Using an object in his hand, he forcefully struck her a number of times in the head. After the final blow, he turned and walked off.
He left the woman lying on the ground, alone and injured. Police later confirmed the weapon used in the horrific beating was a beer bottle.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and suffered from bruising, swelling and lacerations to her head.
Her condition was initially listed as stable. Investigators describe the attacker as a 6 foot tall, 40-something year old Hispanic man.
