PICAYUNE, MISSISSIPPI — Customers Audy McCool, 52, and his son Michael, 29, arrived at the McLemore Gun Store in at around 3.15 p.m. to pick up a weapon when an argument broke out with the owner's wife over a $25 service charge.
According to WDSU 6 News, she then sent a text to her husband Jason McLemore, 44, who arrived at the store shortly afterwards with his son Jacob, 17, to try and defuse the situation.
Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said there may have been some pushing and shoving before one of the customers and one of the owners produced a firearm and started shooting.
The deputy added that McLemore's wife hid behind the counter during the ensuing shootout, from where she called 9-1-1.
When police arrived at the scene they found Audy McCool in the car park suffering from a critical injury. Authorities say Jason McLemore had an unholstered weapon by his side when he was shot, reported WHNT News 19. He and his son were pronounced dead at the store.
Audy McCool and his son sustained life-threatening injuries during the firefight. No charges have yet been filed as an investigation is ongoing, although a local sheriff told WLOX TV that Michael McCool had allegedly shot both with a 40-caliber handgun.
