The Washington Post shared the anecdote as an example of “Trump's demeaning of Priebus.”
According to the publication, “At one point, during a meeting in the Oval Office, a fly began buzzing overhead, distracting the president. As the fly continued to circle, Trump summoned his chief of staff and tasked him with killing the insect, according to someone familiar with the incident.”
Priebus’s downfall has been attributed to a number of factors including Trump’s perception that he lacked the strength to effectively run the West Wing which has been plagued with inner turmoil and ineffectiveness.
The president is also said to have never forgotten that Priebus didn’t back him in the presidential race immediately and, in fact, proposed that he drop out amid the “Access Hollywood” tape controversy.
Trump stated his decision to replace Priebus with General John Kelly on Friday.
Prebus told CNN after Trump's announcement, "I'm always going to be a Trump fan. I'm on Team Trump and I look forward to helping him achieve his goals and his agenda for the American people."
