Transcript
00:00 She's so cute.
00:01 (cat meows)
00:02 I'm Gabriela and this is Charlie's story for GOP.
00:05 Look at this cat.
00:06 I was shocked.
00:07 I called my mom and I was like,
00:08 "There's a cat in my driveway."
00:10 (cat meows)
00:11 He came super randomly.
00:13 It was February and there was snow everywhere.
00:16 He was a mess.
00:16 He was scared.
00:17 I already had another cat.
00:19 So when I saw him, I opened a can of cat food
00:22 and he came over and was eating the cat food.
00:25 Hi, buddy.
00:25 And I could tell, you know,
00:28 by his condition that he probably didn't have a home.
00:31 From that day on, I started going out in my yard every day
00:35 trying to find him and give him food.
00:37 There it is, the cute face.
00:39 I'm just sitting on the ground.
00:41 It's okay.
00:43 Hey.
00:47 Within that first week of meeting him,
00:49 I was able to pet him.
00:50 Aw, handsome boy.
00:52 Even though he was scared,
00:53 he was still wanting to be loved
00:56 from the moment I found him.
00:57 (cat meows)
01:00 And thankfully my mom had a friend
01:03 who works with the TNR rescue group
01:05 and they worked with me to trap him,
01:08 help me bring him to the vet and then got him outside.
01:11 Aw, look at his face.
01:13 I feel like he was excited, relieved in a way.
01:17 I wanted to give him a good home
01:21 and have a safe, warm place to live.
01:24 The TNR group checked if he had a microchip
01:26 and he didn't.
01:28 And we even checked local Facebook groups
01:31 to see if anybody had a cat
01:33 of Charlie's description missing.
01:35 Hi, I'm at the biscuit factory.
01:38 I already had Peter, one of my cats,
01:40 and I kept them separate for a while
01:43 and slowly introduced them just to be safe.
01:45 I love your cute little face.
01:47 Yeah.
01:48 All of his teeth were bad
01:50 and he had to have dental surgery and a lot of things.
01:55 I think he could have been somebody's cat
01:58 given how sweet he is.
01:59 He's so cutey-cute.
02:01 From the very beginning, he liked to crawl up at night
02:04 and like sleep right here.
02:06 And it was a habit right away.
02:08 So it made me feel like maybe he did that
02:10 with somebody in the past.
02:12 I struggle with mental health.
02:13 He helps me keep going.
02:15 He helps keep me positive.
02:17 He's very funny.
02:18 He makes me laugh.
02:19 I feel honored to be the one
02:24 who's been able to get to have his love in my life
02:28 and be a part of his life.
02:30 The vet had said that they thought he had been outside
02:33 for a really, really long time.
02:35 It's sad because where I was living at that point,
02:38 the winters get really cold.
02:39 I was just shocked that he was able to live
02:43 through all that.
02:44 And he's still such a sweet boy.
