00:00 - We're Amber and Kevin,

00:03 and this is Sam's story for Geo Beats.

00:06 - He's just a big goof.

00:07 - Sam.

00:08 - He's selective about when he lets you know

00:10 how smart he is.

00:11 - Who's a good boy?

00:13 - He's mostly pit bull,

00:14 but he's bigger than most pit bulls

00:16 because of the American bulldog in him.

00:17 He's just a big bowling ball headed knucklehead,

00:20 but he thinks he's the size of a Yorkie.

00:22 - Sam was found in an abandoned building in Cleveland

00:27 by city dogs.

00:28 It's his gotcha day.

00:30 - What's up, everybody?

00:31 - He was definitely somebody's dog

00:33 because he was microchipped.

00:34 Maybe the family that had him,

00:35 they just couldn't afford to take care of him anymore,

00:37 and that's how he just ended up on the street.

00:40 We met Sam.

00:43 Kevin got down on the ground

00:45 so that he could be at eye level with him,

00:47 and Sam walked right up to him,

00:48 sat at his feet,

00:49 and just licked his whole face,

00:51 and that was when I knew Sam had picked us.

00:53 - What do you need?

00:54 - He wants to be the main character all the time.

00:57 - I always describe him to people.

00:59 - I haven't met him yet as like a gym bro

01:00 'cause he's very muscular and athletic

01:03 and kind of pretends to be dumb.

01:05 - Okay.

01:07 - He's kind of all over the place.

01:09 He can be super happy and just super excited,

01:12 but then within 10 minutes,

01:13 he can be on the floor snoring.

01:15 - He is an 87-pound lap dog.

01:18 He likes to crawl up on the couch

01:20 and lay directly on Kevin like a weighted blanket.

01:23 - Mr. Sam.

01:24 - Do a chew.

01:25 - Is it yummy?

01:28 - Sam and I have a really good bond.

01:29 He's more or less my son.

01:30 He's my best buddy and we hang out all the time.

01:33 I mean, she usually works evenings,

01:36 so every time I get home from work and she's gone,

01:39 it's like boys' night

01:39 and we do all kinds of stuff together.

01:41 - Okay, well, I think Sam's my best friend.

01:44 Sam and I are like adventure buddies.

01:46 I love seeing the world through his eyes

01:48 and watching him experience things for the first time.

01:51 What's this?

01:52 Weird, quirky thing he does is when I get out of the shower,

01:56 he has to lick my legs.

01:58 Like he has to find me.

01:59 He'll come into the bathroom or if I'm in the bedroom,

02:02 he'll come in there and he has to lick my legs

02:03 and I never hear him coming.

02:04 It's stealth mode.

02:06 - Mr. Sam.

02:07 - He's very friendly.

02:08 We have to rein that in a little bit.

02:09 We have neighbors, they have made terrible comments to Sam.

02:12 I think he doesn't like me.

02:15 The first week that he was home,

02:16 one of our neighbors decided he was aggressive

02:18 because Sam was pulling me outside

02:21 'cause he had to go to the bathroom really badly

02:23 and he just didn't have leash manners yet.

02:26 If it's older people, I don't necessarily think

02:28 that we're gonna be able to change their mind.

02:30 Are you an Easter bunny?

02:31 Sometimes if I'm really frustrated,

02:33 I'll just say to Sam, "It's okay,

02:35 "not everybody's gonna love you, but we do."

02:37 And I'll make sure that I say it loud enough

02:38 that they hear it.

02:39 Be gentle.

02:40 - Say bye.

02:44 Come here.

02:45 Poor mom.

02:46 - If it's a family with little kids,

02:48 we definitely try to sit Sam down

02:50 and educate them a little bit and be like,

02:52 "You don't wanna judge a book by its cover."

02:54 Good focus.

02:56 Okay, Sam.

02:57 - We tell him all the time how much we love him

02:59 and he'll just stare at ya.

03:01 So he knows that he found his family.

03:03 We treat him like a kid.

03:05 We give him ice cream at night sometimes

03:06 so he's beyond spoiled

03:08 and I wouldn't have it any other way.

03:10 Who's a good boy?
