00:00 Thanks for joining me for this national weather update.
00:03 We'll be dodging the downpours for the next couple of days.
00:05 Yes, some sunshine on Friday and Saturday,
00:07 but also some pretty heavy showers.
00:09 And this is the reason why low pressure
00:11 sitting across the country developing those showers.
00:14 This one is also bringing with it cool and fresh air.
00:18 Across the southeast, it's been fairly warm and humid
00:20 for much of the week, and hence why
00:22 we've seen some thunderstorms over the past day or so.
00:25 But the cooler air around this low
00:27 will push away that warmth and humidity
00:30 across the near continent.
00:31 So temperatures for the next few days
00:33 are going to be, well, average at best,
00:35 and for many of us struggling in the high teens.
00:38 Certainly, we'll notice the fresher feel overnight
00:41 and into Friday morning.
00:43 Still fairly warm across the southeast, 13, 14 the low
00:46 here in towns and cities, but elsewhere,
00:48 quite a bit cooler than recent nights
00:50 with temperatures in rural spots dipping well down
00:52 into single figures.
00:53 So a fresh start to Friday.
00:55 There'll be some sunshine around.
00:57 Still got some heavy showers to get rid of on Thursday evening
01:00 across East Anglia and the southeast.
01:01 A few thunderstorms here, too, but they're pulling away.
01:04 The showers won't disappear, though,
01:05 across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:07 We'll keep them going through the night.
01:09 Into Friday, as I said, a fresh but bright start
01:12 for the Midlands, Northeast England, some sunshine here,
01:15 and a good part of Wales starting dry and fine, too.
01:18 Cloud will bubble up as we go through the morning,
01:20 and we'll see showers developing more widely
01:22 from late morning onwards.
01:24 A pretty wet day across northern Scotland.
01:26 Persistent rain here with a gusty wind,
01:28 but elsewhere, the showers will tend to come and go.
01:31 There'll be some decent spars of sunshine.
01:33 And I suspect, actually, much of eastern England
01:35 won't see too many showers at all, and parts of West Wales
01:38 seeing some lengthy spars of sunshine in the afternoon.
01:41 Despite a bit of sunshine here and there,
01:43 temperatures are going to struggle.
01:44 That cooler air in place, the temperatures only high teens
01:47 at best for most.
01:48 We might squeak up to 21 or 22 across the southeast,
01:51 but certainly feeling fresher here
01:53 will have lost that humidity.
01:55 Still a few more showers to come then on Friday evening
01:57 if you're hitting the roads, getting away for the weekend,
02:00 a bank holiday, of course, for many.
02:01 And still more showers to come, and we'll
02:03 keep more wet weather just spiraling south
02:06 into parts of southern Scotland, Northern Ireland,
02:08 and Northern England for the start of Saturday.
02:11 So a wet start for some.
02:13 Again, through the day, we'll see showers developing pretty
02:15 widely.
02:16 Be lucky to have a completely dry day on Saturday,
02:19 and the showers could well be heavy and perhaps even
02:21 thundery with a low pressure still in control.
02:24 Again, it won't rain everywhere all day.
02:26 There'll be some brighter slots and a bit of sunshine.
02:28 Quite brisk winds in the west.
02:30 That'll mean the showers chase through,
02:32 whereas parts of the east will have lighter winds, which
02:34 means if we see some showers, they'll be fairly slow moving.
02:38 But everywhere, again, struggling with temperatures.
02:40 Most places only 17 or 18 Celsius.
02:43 That is below the average for the time of year.
02:46 The outlook is for that area of low pressure
02:48 to slowly start to pull away.
02:50 There is high pressure out west, which tries to move in,
02:54 but doesn't really do it through Sunday.
02:56 Another weather front comes in instead.
02:58 But Sunday generally drier than Saturday,
03:00 and there are signs that that ridge of high pressure
03:03 will topple in for Monday.
03:04 So if you're having a bank holiday,
03:06 then the weather doesn't look too bad at this stage
03:09 for bank holiday Monday.
03:10 Still a few showers around, but we should see some sunny spells.
