00:00 Here's today's Derbyshire Times Video Bulletin.
00:03 Chesterfield Borough Council employees urge you to take strike action after rejecting
00:07 a pay rise offer for the current financial year.
00:09 The National Employers' Body, which sets pay deals for local authority employees, made
00:14 a pay rise offer of £1,925 to run from April this year.
00:19 But after this was rejected by union members, Unite has announced plans for strike action
00:23 across England and Wales.
00:25 And Chesterfield Borough Council Unite members will be the first to strike over two days
00:29 on Tuesday 29th August and Wednesday 30th August.
00:34 Unite members at other local authorities in England and Wales also aim to strike during
00:37 September.
00:39 The strike action follows the outcome of a ballot of Unite staff members on a national
00:42 pay offer and, according to the council, the way in which local bonuses pay calculations
00:47 are made.
00:48 It will involve staff based at Chesterfield Borough Council's Stone Gravels Depot, who
00:52 work for the Housing and Property Services Department, carrying out repairs, maintenance
00:56 and improvements to council tenants' homes.
00:59 The council says it remains committed to negotiations with Unite to try to resolve the dispute and
01:04 has contingency plans to limit the impact of any strike action.
01:09 Derbyshire Police are appealing for help finding a 14-year-old who has been reported missing
01:13 and may be living in the Chesterfield area in a tent.
01:16 14-year-old Ashton has been living in Smethek in the West Midlands but went missing from
01:20 his home address earlier this month.
01:23 Police believe he may be in the Dainsmore area of Chesterfield where he has family.
01:27 Officers also believe that Ashton may be staying in a tent and want to hear from anyone who
01:31 may have seen someone using a tent in recent days.
01:35 Anyone with information on Ashton's whereabouts is asked to contact police, quoting incident
01:39 615 of August 24th.
