Dog living his final days like a boss
Transcript
00:00 He's 13 and a half years old. He got this cough. It kept getting worse and changed drastically at one point
00:07 So they did a chest x-ray and there were two lung nodules
00:10 It was a dagger to the heart we were blessed with having him for over 13 years
00:18 But you're afraid of the days to come when he's not with you
00:21 We try as much as we can to turn those days around knowing that every day is a gift every day is precious
00:28 Doing things that make him happy makes us happy. We took him out on the boat
00:33 He went into the ocean for the first time to see the horizon of just endless water
00:41 He was looking all around having a good time
00:44 We have a pool here and he demands every single day to go in the pool
00:49 Nothing makes him happier than to be swimming. We also found a local dog park in Florida that has a lake for dogs
00:56 So we've been bringing him and his new baby sister Raelyn there
01:00 He just loves it so much
01:02 One of Slade's favorite things in life to do is bark
01:07 I always call him Jurassic Slade because if you catch the bark in slow motion, it looks like he's roaring like a dinosaur
01:15 When Halloween comes around he loves to wear costumes
01:22 My husband has the cuddly dog in Rusty so he tried so much over the years to make Slade a cuddly dog
01:28 But Slade just likes to be very independent. He's almost too wise in his old age
01:34 He knows no fool, but nowadays he just will not listen to you
01:38 He's so open and wants to do what he wants to do
01:41 It's hard to say whether it's a month or whether it's days
01:45 So he blocks out everything that he knows and he's gonna go do what he wants to do. My husband is his favorite person
01:51 If he had someone to follow around in the house, it would be my husband more than me
01:56 Sometimes I wonder if it's because my husband cooks and I don't cook and Slade loves food
02:01 I've just accepted it. I get to watch him be happy and be a part of his life. That's all that matters
02:07 Slade came into our lives when I was working at a hospital and nurse found a stray dog that followed her on a walk
02:17 She took the dog to the vet and found out the dog was pregnant
02:20 Yes, so she helped the dog have 13 puppies and we picked up the biggest one there. He was like a little tank
02:28 He's our special little boy, he's always been there for us
02:35 We really don't know what the future holds for him
02:37 But we're here to be with him right by his side and help him through every moment
02:42 We don't know if he's in pain, but we watch him carefully
02:45 It's one of those you wish they could tell you they hide any pain so well
02:50 He just looks back at you with a smile
02:52 You
02:54 You
