See how this fox reacts when pet like a dog
Transcript
00:00 She is super vocal to greet you.
00:02 She immediately starts laughing.
00:04 (Luna laughing)
00:05 If you give her a big greeting,
00:06 she'll give you an even bigger greeting back.
00:08 (Luna laughing)
00:10 My name is Jennifer Patton,
00:11 and this is Luna's story for GeoBeats.
00:14 I am the owner and founder of Fox's Journey Sanctuary
00:17 in Michigan.
00:18 Hey Luna.
00:19 (Luna laughing)
00:21 Luna was purchased as a pet by an elderly woman,
00:24 and unfortunately she passed away.
00:26 That is how Luna found her way to us.
00:28 Luna.
00:29 (Luna laughing)
00:30 Luna was obviously bonded with her person before,
00:34 and I think because she had been missing that bond.
00:36 So forming a new bond, she was ready and I was willing.
00:40 (Luna laughing)
00:42 And she was just over the moon to have another fox friend.
00:46 We had another owner surrender come,
00:47 and that was Neville, and that became her companion.
00:50 Hi.
00:52 Oh, hi sweet boy.
00:54 Neville is very sweet,
00:55 but I think he might be missing a couple brain cells,
00:58 but him and Luna get along really, really well.
01:00 (Luna laughing)
01:03 Look at the face.
01:04 Hi Neville.
01:06 Hi sweet boy.
01:08 Once they bond, they are bonded for life.
01:10 Once they're done eating,
01:14 they'll save the last couple bites,
01:16 and they'll each follow each other around making noises,
01:18 trying to give that piece of food to the other one.
01:21 She's got quite a big personality.
01:24 When we put her here in the fox yard,
01:25 she just runs and runs and laughs while she's running.
01:28 Luna, what's going on?
01:30 Oh, are you so yummy?
01:32 If she was a person, I would describe her
01:34 as that very, very energetic, popular cheerleader
01:37 in high school.
01:38 Hi baby boy.
01:40 Oh, Luna.
01:41 Foxes make about 30 different sounds
01:43 throughout their lifetime.
01:45 (Luna laughing)
01:47 She doesn't laugh for everybody.
01:50 If someone was to come visit, she may not laugh,
01:52 but for myself and my employee and our couple of volunteers,
01:56 she 100% laughs for all of us.
01:59 (Luna laughing)
02:02 Luchina is a different type of sound.
02:05 It's like two kids fighting over a candy bar.
02:08 In total, we have 50 foxes in our care.
02:11 They are all captive bred foxes,
02:13 so they can't be released into the wild.
02:15 Don't you do anything back there you're not supposed to.
02:17 We have 33 owner surrenders.
02:19 Foxes do not make good pets.
02:21 Hey, give a squeak.
02:23 They're destructive in the home, they dig.
02:25 Good boy.
02:26 Foxes do not smell great.
02:29 It's really a musky, skunky smell.
02:31 Hi Neville.
02:32 So a lot of times foxes in private homes
02:35 end up in sanctuaries
02:37 because people weren't really necessarily prepared for a fox.
02:41 (Neville grunting)
02:44 It's a very full, busy life,
02:46 anywhere from four to six hours a day.
02:47 I am also a mom, so I have two kids.
02:49 I'm passionate about foxes
02:51 and I absolutely fell in love with the idea
02:54 of being able to rescue foxes.
02:56 You're so sweet, I just love you.
02:58 Hi Neville.
03:02 I am beyond grateful to give Luna the life that she deserves.
03:06 (Neville laughing)
03:08 (frog croaking)
