Chihuahua with greyhound legs is exactly as weird as imagined
Transcript
00:00 She has these really long greyhound legs and then this really teeny tiny chihuahua peanut head.
00:05 I'm Ryan and this is Molly's story for GeoGeeks.
00:09 Someone once described her as walking taxidermy because she is so old.
00:14 She is 18 and a half-ish.
00:18 She was found as a stray puppy when she was about six months old or so.
00:22 She's a million years old so microchips weren't really a thing back then.
00:26 I said I would foster her and now here she is 18 years later.
00:29 We honestly have no idea where she came from.
00:30 Back then designer dogs were starting to come in so the vet thought maybe they tried to cross
00:38 a chihuahua and Italian greyhound and make like this.
00:42 She's part Italian greyhound.
00:43 She used to run all over the place like a little crazy person.
00:46 Now she is a little freaky I would say.
00:50 She does have arthritis and her back is a little more curved than it used to be but she still walks.
00:55 We went on a hike and I carry her around.
00:58 A lot of times she falls asleep while we're hiking.
01:00 So the movement of the swing with the fresh air she just cannot stay awake.
01:04 But I let her get down in the forest and walk around.
01:06 The vet doesn't think she can see very much because she has cataracts in both eyes.
01:11 If you call her name she'll look in the direction you are.
01:14 But I don't think she can see very clearly.
01:16 If you see closely up in her eyes they're pretty cloudy but she can see shadows and movement.
01:22 She's like freedom!
01:23 When we're outside I put her down outside and she just takes off.
01:26 She has no fear in her life whatsoever.
01:29 We just moved into this new house and it's like right by the lake.
01:32 And it's a very safe lake for her to swim in.
01:34 That's basically the whole motivation.
01:35 She loves swimming.
01:43 It stretches her legs out and I have to go in and physically get her because she likes to go super far.
01:48 I pick her up and her legs don't stop.
01:51 Everyone is always like, "Oh my god I can't believe that dog is 18 years old."
01:55 She is very opinionated.
01:57 She has the biggest attitude and that's my fault because I have literally spoiled her her entire life and made this.
02:03 My brother has two labs that are each 100 pounds.
02:07 She's nine pounds and they're scared of her.
02:09 Everybody knows that when she shows up she's in charge.
02:12 She's been part of my life for 18 years.
02:19 She's basically an appendage at this point.
02:21 So this is my child if anybody asks.
02:23 We have a birthday party for her every year.
02:25 I bake this special cake.
02:26 I put frosting on it that is Greek yogurt mixed with ketchup, which to us is disgusting, but she loves it.
02:32 Next year in April for her 19th birthday we're gonna do the same and we'll just keep having birthday parties for her.
02:37 We've done a lot of adventures together so she's earned all of the cloudy eyes and all of the white fur.
02:42 We're in the last chapter of her life and that's difficult for me to reconcile.
02:47 But we're gonna do everything we can to keep her here for as long as we can.
