Burkina Faso: From banking to selling juice

  • l’année dernière
Nadine KARA holds a Masters degree in Corporate Communications. She had a career in the banking sector before taking a two-year leave of absence to become an entrepreneur.

With the support of her husband, she founded "Kamadine", a company specialising in the production and distribution of local juices such as ginger juice, pineapple juice, etc., as well as canned African sauces.

The start of the 'Kamadine' adventure coincided with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This presented a real challenge for Nadine KARA. Thanks to her determination and spirit of initiative, she overcame these obstacles. Today, the company produces an average of 3,000 bottles of juice a month. Her dream is to industrialise her business and conquer both the local and international markets.

00:00 Camadine is a production unit, and we are involved in the production of local juices and African canned sauces.
00:08 We produce pineapple ginger juice, we produce lemon-lime Kekéliba bissap, passion bissap, and mango.
00:26 In the month, we can produce an average of 3,000 bottles, or sometimes more, depending on the period.
00:34 When I started the business, COVID-19 was invited.
00:44 The flights that were suspended and all, and the difficulties of the moment, did not make this birth easy.
00:54 It was not easy to supply, to produce in bottles, in raw materials.
01:01 It was a lot of difficulty for a start.
01:05 When COVID-19 happened, we were stuck in the restaurant business and could not work.
01:15 The staff was available and a little out of reach, because there was no income.
01:21 At that time, the idea of a genius, of a lady, came up.
01:25 She found a way to start at that time with double satisfaction.
01:34 To start a business and to be able to get the staff who were on the side of the road to work.
01:47 After the juice production, my first client is the Benoit Lodge, which I have the chance to manage with my husband.
01:55 The Benoit Lodge bar serves as the first distribution channel for Camadine juice.
02:00 I got to know the Camadine product through a friend and other people who talked to me about it too.
02:15 They gave me the Facebook page, I went to visit and I saw the images.
02:21 It was very attractive. I went to the shop to buy the products, especially the local ones, without preservatives.
02:32 And since then, I am with Camadine.
02:44 I have a Master's degree in business communication.
02:47 I worked at Bissia, which has now become Bista.
02:50 I was a client advisor and I was also an agency manager.
02:54 This led me to take two years to get started in my business.
03:01 At the beginning of the juice production, I had my big marmite with which I sterilized the juice.
03:10 Sometimes it broke. Now when I sit down and see the back, I laugh.
03:16 Because sometimes, by sterilizing the bottles, it was done like this.
03:20 And I laugh today because the means have completely changed.
03:25 I have matured and I have learned a lot from my experiences.
03:30 Nowadays, the juices are made differently.
03:34 I also acquired some equipment that facilitates my daily life.
03:41 Regret? No, not exactly.
03:44 But it happened to me to wonder what could have taken me.
03:50 Because I spend white nights.
03:53 I walk while talking.
03:57 So there are times when I say to myself, "But who brought me into this field?"
04:03 But all of this is part of the experience.
04:06 My vision is to raise this baby that was born.
04:21 That was born in my hands.
04:24 It's already equipping me properly.
04:29 I have all the authorizations and everything I need to conquer markets.
04:34 Local markets and why not international markets.
04:40 To get there internationally, I count on a medium and long-term industrialized Camadine.
04:49 So I'm on it.
04:51 And I also hope to have good people and good support to get there.
