00:05 Staff writer for Sports Illustrated over at all Titans comm want to take a look at Will Levis's performance against the Atlanta Falcons

00:15 Documented at this point by me and tons of other people what I want to do is in the name of fairness
00:20 Look at some of the things that the rookie needs to improve on from the game against the Falcons
00:25 And yes, he is a rookie quarterback making his first start in the NFL
00:29 You can't expect perfection all the time
00:31 But to be fair again
00:32 Just want to take a look at some of the things that do need to improve and one of the big things that stood out
00:36 To me is Will Levis's decision-making. He's got an incredible arm. All right, that is obvious
00:42 He's got the ability to drive it down the field, but sometimes you don't need that
00:47 This is a first down the Titans run a play-action concept here
00:50 They got two guys going deep trailing Burks and DeAndre Hopkins and the Falcons cover it up
00:55 The Falcons do a good job of keeping it covered. There's nowhere to go now
00:59 Levis is looking here and in my opinion, this is first down its first down. It's early in the game

01:08 Just take your check down chicka conque. Oh you dump this off to chicka conque. Oh here
01:13 He's gonna catch it
01:14 Maybe go for 10 to 15 yards get your first first down which is something like variable always talks about
01:19 Just take what the defense is giving you you have a great arm. You have a can and we know we know
01:24 But this is just a decision that I'd like to see the drop down to chick now
01:28 with that being said
01:30 Levis throws an absolute dime off his back foot. I mean, this is an absolutely incredible pass. I get it
01:36 He's got the confidence when you got this kind of arm and you can make these kind of throws I get it
01:40 But it's first down. It's early in the game. You don't have any points on the board
01:44 He even looks over there and says now I'm going over to the other side
01:48 Just take the little dump off to check get your 1015 get your first first down get the drive going get the game going
01:54 Gain some rhythm look I mean a dime here and the safety does a good job
01:58 I think is Richie Grant of coming over and making a play or this would be a catch and maybe a touchdown for Burks
02:04 I would like to see Burks go up and get one rather than trying to wait for the ball to come to him and allow
02:08 Them the defender to make make a play great throw
02:11 But again, I would like to see him just dump that off to chicka conque for a nice double digit gain here
02:18 Now on this one in my opinion Levis leaves a clean pocket here again. This is decision-making
02:24 So this play is meant to be you know
02:27 Chica Conquo on the crossing route right here and he's got the linebacker on his back and this is man coverage. So
02:34 Chica Conquo has his guy beat and I think he's gonna be open and this is asking a lot
02:39 But this is the NFL. All right, this is the NFL

02:42 And what I would want from will Levis here is to step up in this pocket and layer this pass over here to Chica Conquo
02:49 Over the middle. He doesn't in my opinion. He bails on the pocket too early
02:54 It's a cleaner pocket than his bail makes it seem and it turns into a sack now
02:59 He minimizes the damage on the sack
03:01 But either way it turns into a sack and I don't think that it had to be and I think not only did it not
03:06 Have to be a sack, but this could have been a big play. I mean right here you have separation
03:12 This is man coverage
03:13 Conquo is gonna continue over on the crosser and you have room here to step up and make that throw and I think Levis just
03:20 Leaves the pocket a little bit too early and hey, everybody criticized Malik Willis for that
03:25 We have to be fair and say Levis did that to see there
03:28 I get why he's trying to run up through there
03:30 But deliver that pass and chig is is up there open as well because the linebacker drops off. So
03:36 Nitpicking that's a tough play. That's a tough play this one
03:41 It's third and three and I wanted to show that because this is another one of those situations where in my opinion
03:46 This is an arrogant play and will Levis has arrogant arm talent
03:51 Okay, if I could throw a football like that
03:52 I'd probably do this too and there are schematic logical reasons for the decision that will Levis makes here
03:58 But I just I don't like the decision. It's third and three
04:01 All right, the Titans have a bunch concept up here and what's gonna happen is you're gonna see Hopkins go out
04:08 Chicks gonna go vertical and Phillips is gonna sit down right at the sticks. It's third and three pick up the first down now
04:15 this safety is over here and
04:18 Trailing Burks is gonna be running the go route to the bottom. Sorry. My lines aren't perfect
04:23 I wasn't great in art class, but trailing Burks is gonna be running that to the bottom
04:27 So I get will Levis with that arm talent in the Titans offense that wants to drive the ball down the field when they can
04:33 I get taking the shot, but look at Phillips
04:36 Phillips is open here and he's looking there
04:38 He's looking at Phillips right now
04:40 With that arm talent with that velocity drive that in and if you're worried about the DB facing totally inside
04:46 Then drive that out to Hopkins
04:48 Instead Levis takes the shot down the field to trailing Burks and again again
04:55 Maybe that's the way that this is taught if the safety is that far inside
05:00 You got one-on-one coverage your first round pick who should be a vertical threat
05:04 But look but it ends up not being a good pass is the real problem
05:08 Because if Levis is gonna get to that and that's what he wants to do. He needs to get to it quicker
05:14 Okay, do it now the safety is over there. You held him do it now do it now
05:19 Do it now, you know like have the plan right away that you're going to do that
05:24 If that's if that's what you want to do pre snap
05:26 Hey, I got a look that I like I'm gonna take it
05:29 You got to be quicker than that because it allows the pressure to get there and then he's got to throw it while falling
05:34 away and the ball sails to the outside rather than upfield and it's too far outside for Burks to get his feet inbounds, so
05:40 Just something that I want to mention now. This is a touchdown throw. So I know that I'm nitpicking here
05:46 It's a touchdown throw but I wanted to at least show it because
05:48 Accuracy is something that we need to talk about and ball placement. This ball is beyond behind DeAndre Hopkins
05:55 This is not a great throw. All right, this should be in front of him. This should be easier
05:59 Luckily Hopkins is a good player good receiver and he makes the catch and makes the play and turns it into a touchdown
06:06 Look quarterbacks need a little bit of help every now and then but we just want to be honest about what's going on because that
06:12 Could matter if it's not DeAndre Hopkins. Okay, that couldn't matter. So on this one

07:09 NFL tight end should catch this and chicken Conquo has had a disappointing second season
07:14 But will Levis could have been better on the play - so we're just being fair here

07:28 Decision that I don't agree with the Falcons bring pressure here and in my opinion

07:40 Kyle Phillips is coming open on the slant over the middle of the field or the intermediate cross or whatever you want to call it

07:47 Arrogance in the arm, maybe some overconfidence. I like the confidence drive it down the field but situation will

07:59 Continue your two-minute drive go down and get a three points
08:03 okay, that's what you do, but when you throw this pass to Nick Westbrook a keen a and

08:12 You're too far out to kick a field goal because if you miss it's a 50 58 yarder
08:16 You're giving the Falcons a chance to go down and get three points
08:19 Situationally, I would like Levis to make a smarter decision and hit chig here or chig here or Phillips down here

08:27 Just say KYP know your personnel if this were a first round wide receiver if this were a speedster
08:34 Then yeah, he might be able to run past this safety and you lob this up over here and that's a play
08:40 But it's Nick Westbrook a keen a and he's had a good year and he serves a very good role on this team
08:45 But this isn't the play to take a shot to him on with his speed
08:49 I know we ran 21 miles per hour on the last touchdown or whatever, but come on. Let's be honest here. All right
08:55 So again five-man pressure you're taking pressure. It is harder to throw the deep pass right here

09:32 Why not just just take that throw to a conque wide open in the flat instead?
09:37 Levis runs it and I think he picks up less yards than what chig would have picked up if he would have thrown the ball

09:45 It's a more risky play because you're starting quarterback is
09:48 Running up the field and getting popped out of bounds not a strong hit, but you know just saying there's no need for it
09:56 There was an easier better play available. So moving right along here

10:09 This this guy's going with the drag. Maybe you hit chig a conque on the wheel route right here. You drill this in right here
10:17 But I don't know that this is nitpicking I would say I don't feel very strongly this play is bad

10:36 I just feel like there's open opportunity on this play and Levis has a clean pocket shout out to the offensive line

10:53 Maybe he's trying to take what he gets again. I don't say this play. Maybe just nitpicking could have cut it out

11:05 This pass is simply behind chigga conque. Oh, this is not an accurate pass
11:11 Like with the Hopkins thing earlier the footwork can lead to inaccuracies
11:16 That was something that popped up on the draft evaluation for Levis
11:19 But this ball is behind and if you lead chigga conque with that velocity and that arm strength out here
11:25 Maybe turns up the field and makes play, you know little things
11:31 Completion but that was late in the game and the Titans had to have that completion and whoo
11:35 You're making it risky making chig try to make a catch like that. Okay, the last play
11:39 I want to talk about here is really the only turnover worthy play. Well, not the last play but close the only turnover worthy play
11:45 that I saw and
11:48 It was this little dump off. Will Levis was literally just trying to get rid of it with the pressure and
11:54 He just got a little too risky, I mean throw that thing further to the ground
12:00 I mean he almost throws this falling away guys on him. Oh, no
12:04 Almost throws this in the line backers hands. Gotta be careful there
12:09 Lots to improve again. I'm not trying to rain on the parade or anything like that
