00:00 >> Well, it's not to ever diminish winning the game,
00:05 cuz it's hard to win games and so we thought we started a little flat.
00:12 And then I really liked how we picked it up.
00:16 And obviously the fourth quarter we didn't execute the way that we wanted to.
00:23 And I think our guys know that.
00:27 Hopefully that's something that we'll continue to work on,
00:30 just playing all 48 minutes.
00:32 Washington did a good job of, they kept competing and made plays and
00:36 we're able to really cut into the lead.
00:38 But it's coming off a big win the other night to come back and
00:44 for the most part of the game I think have a good effort.
00:48 And just other than a couple of stretches.
00:51 >> For the most part you guys have stopped three good games.
00:54 I know one of the big things for you guys this season is stopping days,
00:56 just how reassuring is it that you guys have been able to have those
01:00 moments of execution?
01:02 >> Yeah, I think it's just you wanna set the bar high.
01:08 You wanna stack days but
01:13 we don't wanna, part of doing that is the consistency.
01:19 And I think that becomes the result of that focus and
01:25 process and when we have that focus, we play well.
01:30 And then sometimes there's a lot of things that impact that,
01:36 but you can't let the score, foul trouble,
01:41 missed shots, all those things that are in the stars,
01:44 you don't have control over, impact the things that you do control.
01:47 >> Coach.
01:49 >> Here.
01:50 >> Yeah.
01:51 >> Despite the way the game ended,
01:53 how important was it to you on this road trip coming up, on a day like this?
01:57 >> Yeah, I think sometimes we lost the first two,
02:03 we're going a few in a row now, and the sky wasn't falling when we lost two.
02:08 And we don't need to be congratulating ourselves for winning three.
02:13 This is a long haul this season.
02:16 And hopefully today could, in a different way than the other night,
02:21 in a different way than dating back to Charlotte in the opener in New York.
02:25 We just wanna take these games and try to use them to get better.
02:29 >> Coach, with it still being very, very early in the season,
02:33 and we've talked about winning three in a row.
02:35 But with it being this early in the season, is there something that you've been
02:38 really, really impressed with thus far that you wouldn't have expected to kind of
02:42 come together this early, but you're happy to see it kind of come together as early
02:47 as it is now?
02:48 >> Yeah, I think the things, big picture that I've talked about.
02:53 What we're trying to do in the court, you don't always do it.
02:58 Hopefully you get better at it.
02:59 But we've been an unselfish team.
03:02 The other night, Milwaukee, we had eight guys in double figures.
03:06 There must have been six different times against Minnesota
03:13 where the rotation changed.
03:14 Someone came out for two minutes, they went back in.
03:17 Somebody played beyond the rotation, Trey came out,
03:21 didn't go back in in the third quarter.
03:23 AJ came out, played well in the first half, didn't play the second half.
03:27 O finished the game, Clint didn't.
03:29 Hunt's rotation got shaved some.
03:31 Sadiq and JJ came in for each other, and no one missed a beat through the whole thing.
03:35 Bogies maybe more than anyone, cuz Bogie had played well when we were making that
03:39 comeback, and then because Trey sat the last few minutes of the third quarter,
03:44 I got him back in.
03:45 And that's usually, Bogie's usually in then.
03:47 And then at one point, I had Bogie go back in, and he was at the scores table.
03:52 And DJ, who's obviously playing great, I was gonna give him a blow.
03:59 And we sat Bogie back down, and then two minutes later, I put him back in.
04:02 And I did seriously, so that substance of a group,
04:07 to me, gives your team a chance to get better.
04:12 And not every game's gonna be like that, obviously.
04:15 But to the extent that that illustrates, I think,
04:18 the buy-in that these guys have had for one another.
04:24 And trying to do things, making individual sacrifices for the group.
04:30 >> You talked pregame a little bit about how Washington was playing small,
04:36 how that was something you had to be prepared for.
04:37 How did you think your defense handled that today?
04:39 >> I didn't think we had a great defense tonight.
04:42 I think we've played in stretches, but
04:46 we haven't been at the level that we need to be at.
04:51 We've made some plays, like I said,
04:52 we've gone on some runs when we have played good defense.
04:55 But there's been too many possessions where we're not executing,
05:01 where someone's not shifted in the right place.
05:03 We're not running back into our shifts.
05:07 Maybe we're back, but we're not communicating.
05:10 Our pickup points aren't high enough on the ball.
05:12 And it's everybody.
05:14 It's not for lack of care or effort.
05:17 I think we just gotta compete.
05:19 I mean, you gotta be persistent, and we gotta keep grinding.
05:21 And that's what this league is, and
05:24 that's what it means to become a solid defensive team.
05:29 You just can't take plays off.
05:30 >> Coach, you did have a good night on the boards tonight.
05:35 Could you just talk about that effort there?
05:37 >> We did?
05:38 Yeah.
05:38 >> [LAUGH] >> Real good.
05:40 >> Real good.
05:41 >> [LAUGH] >> We did a good job on the boards.
05:46 >> [LAUGH] >> I just think that the rebounding,
05:52 we did have possessions where we went after the ball.
05:55 And we got some rebounds in crowds.
05:57 >> Coach, I wanna talk about the turnovers.
06:04 I know you said they came out a little bit slow, but
06:07 can you account for those turnovers and where they came from?
06:09 Was it just a lack of focus?
06:10 >> Yeah, no, it was a lack of precision,
06:14 whether it be how we were spaced at the beginning of the possession,
06:18 not passing the ball soon enough at times.
06:21 They were really shifted, and we did that.
06:24 We did a great job of that a number of times where we found guys quickly and
06:29 trusted each other, and that's just something we gotta keep.
06:32 The other night we had eight turnovers.
06:35 So that's something certainly we're capable of doing.
06:38 But I think late, when they were trapping us, we weren't strong with the ball.
06:42 And we didn't give each other outlets and help each other.
06:45 So we're capable of doing that.
06:48 And I anticipate we'll continue to be efficient with the ball,
06:52 cuz we've got good handlers and good passers.
06:54 I just thought we got a little lazy.
06:55 >> Just back to that unselfish thing, I think all five starters were in
07:00 double figures by the middle of the third quarter.
07:03 What challenges does that present to a defense if you guys are so balanced?
07:07 >> How are you gonna say what challenges?
07:08 Like we don't want our guys in double figures.
07:10 >> [LAUGH] >> I think, to your point,
07:15 that balance allows you, it happened the other night when there's certain
07:21 matchups that Hunt has a mismatch in the situation and
07:25 takes advantage of an opportunity he has.
07:28 Or we have something in pick and roll.
07:31 But I think as much as anything,
07:33 I would say that's indicative of the unselfish nature of the group.
07:38 And it probably shows itself,
07:39 that's a byproduct, I think, of us being willing to move the ball.
07:44 >> Hey, Quinn, I've asked Trey this, I've asked his teammates this.
07:50 But have you ever seen that wraparound pass that he had to DeJante?
07:54 Have you ever maybe watched film or something like that and
07:56 just been wowed by something that may be in practice or something?
08:00 >> Trey's artistic in the way he plays.
08:02 So I have to admit, I'm not, I mean, my job isn't to be wowed.
08:11 It's to make sure that he completes the pass.
08:13 And in Trey's case, that's what he does.
08:17 So a lot of the things that he's doing that may look, they're not unnecessary.
08:25 He uses his eyes, he uses ball fakes, he changes speeds.
08:30 And he's able to kind of create passing lanes by doing that.
08:34 And he's gifted in that regard.
08:37 And I'm glad we rebounded, especially offensively,
08:39 because we haven't been doing that as much.
08:41 >> Okay.
08:43 >> Okay.
