00:00 Rocky was most likely left in an apartment complex
00:03 when they moved.
00:04 I'm Becky, and this is Rocky's story for GeoBeasts.
00:07 I rescue kitties with Furry Nation Salvation.
00:09 I've done over 200 adoptions.
00:12 Rocky was at the shelter in April of 2023.
00:15 Someone brought him in.
00:19 They said they had seen him
00:20 around their apartment for years.
00:22 So most likely he was left
00:24 when someone moved out of that apartment complex.
00:27 He had really bad scabies.
00:29 He also had FIV that makes their immune system weaker.
00:32 We took him into our care so we could get him better.
00:35 His fever is up to 104.7.
00:38 When I got Rocky, he was in a cardboard box
00:41 and he was pretty active,
00:42 which was surprising for how sick he was.
00:44 And it was sad because the little crust from his skin
00:47 were kind of falling off as he rubbed against things.
00:50 But he was super sweet from the moment that I met him.
00:53 You're just so handsome, bud.
00:55 He's very friendly.
00:56 So we know that he belonged to a family
00:58 at some point in his life.
00:59 I had to put eye drops in his eyes at first
01:02 because they were so crusted shut.
01:03 Oh, what a good boy.
01:05 Can you imagine what it was like
01:06 for him living outside on his own,
01:08 not being able to see and having to find his own food
01:11 and do whatever outside cats have to do in that condition?
01:15 He loves that.
01:16 He wouldn't have made it much longer out there like that.
01:19 The only reason he made it is because that person
01:21 at the apartment complex brought him to the shelter.
01:24 You hungry?
01:25 If she would have just continued to walk by,
01:27 like I'm sure other people saw him, right?
01:29 Like there had to have been people that saw that cat
01:31 and thought, "Ooh, what's wrong with him?"
01:33 But she took the initiative and she took him to the shelter
01:36 and she saved his life.
01:37 You're a big boy now.
01:39 I spent a lot of time with him.
01:40 I just had to give him a lot of attention
01:42 and make sure that he was okay.
01:44 On the weekends, I would spend three or four hours a day
01:47 taking him to our vet, Dr. Nancy.
01:50 She's a special vet that helps us
01:52 with a lot of our rescue kitties.
01:54 Okay, so what I usually would do.
01:56 And she meets me from her home
01:58 about an hour and a half away from me.
02:00 She'll meet me halfway to do special things for him.
02:03 As soon as I sit down, he rubs all over me for attention.
02:06 He's like my little protector.
02:07 I remember one time, a kitty bit me and he got alarmed
02:11 and he came over right away to make sure that I was okay.
02:13 You're cute.
02:14 He's like the papa bear of the bunch.
02:16 He's always around.
02:17 He's always watching.
02:18 I love you.
02:20 He gets along with the other cats,
02:21 but his main goal is me, human.
02:24 Pet me, pet me, pet me, feed me, pet me.
02:26 When I got him, his hair was really scabby
02:28 and it's starting to grow back in.
02:31 Hockey!
02:31 So now it's real fuzzy and soft like a teddy bear.
02:34 The scabies are all cleared up.
02:36 He's neutered.
02:37 He's ready to get adopted now.
02:39 I wish I could keep him
02:40 because I have such a close bond with him,
02:42 but I have to get him adopted because he's adoptable.
02:45 You're the best, best cat.
02:47 It was a journey for us to go through together.
02:49 What a good boy.
02:51 What a good boy.
02:53 I would tell Rocky that,
02:55 Rocky, I love you a lot,
02:56 and one day we're not gonna be together anymore,
02:59 but I'll always think of you.
