Nervous shelter dog is now the biggest love bug
Transcript
00:00 She really feels like a human sometimes.
00:01 It's the craziest thing.
00:03 My name is Alyssa, and this is Sequoia's story for GeoMeats.
00:06 There had been 90 dogs that were taken from a backyard breeder.
00:10 We got her.
00:11 I stand with my pack.
00:12 She was skin and bones, so skinny, just not in a good, healthy condition.
00:18 When they picked her up and the coordinator drove her to our house to drop her off,
00:22 she just sat in the car and was like, "I don't know how to get out of this thing.
00:26 I don't want to get out."
00:27 She's very timid.
00:29 Okay.
00:30 You get them knowing nothing.
00:31 She didn't know how to walk upstairs.
00:33 My fiancé was able to lift her.
00:35 We had to carry her up and down the stairs.
00:37 Then she had no idea what a dog bed was.
00:47 She chose to sleep on the floor, wouldn't touch toys, was terrified of the TV.
00:52 We turned the TV on, and she just had no idea what that noise was.
00:56 It was like hiding in the corner.
00:58 A lot of it was very new to her, but she picked up so quickly.
01:04 Around the three-month mark is when the personality really started coming out.
01:09 She's such a lover, such a little gentle girl.
01:16 A 75-pound lap dog.
01:18 She'll come onto the couch and cuddle you like a human would.
01:22 Okay.
01:23 [Honk]
01:24 She comes, she lays on my side, puts one arm all the way up on my chest,
01:30 her head on my chest, and just lays there.
01:32 I would thank her for existing, quite honestly.
01:34 Her and I are pretty much together almost all day every day.
01:37 I work from home.
01:38 We took her to the beach for the first time out in Santa Barbara.
01:43 She's running in and out of the waves.
01:45 It was the purest excitement I think I've ever seen on anyone.
01:53 When they were in the shelter, I'm not sure how much human contact they had,
01:56 but she is so sweet.
01:58 Sequoia has a very close and strong bond with my fiancee as well.
02:02 Every time we would leave the house, she'll go to the spa on our couch,
02:08 and we come home and she's sitting on her perch waiting for you.
02:11 You would never, never know that she went through what she went through before we got her.
02:15 I'd gone through a pretty traumatic loss a year before.
02:19 Had lost my previous sole dog.
02:21 First dog I ever have as an adult, and so I was just like,
02:24 I don't know if I'm ready to give my heart to something again like that.
02:27 But everyone around us was just like, there's never going to be a better dog.
02:31 She's everything you could ever really want in a dog,
02:34 and it made the healing so much easier.
02:36 I just truly believe that she was sent to me from him in a way.
02:40 Because it was almost a year to the date of me losing him that I got her,
02:44 which I just think is really crazy.
