00:03 A concerned MP and Councillor are continuing to campaign to reduce traffic congestion along
00:08 the main road through a North Derbyshire town, which has just been given the go-ahead for
00:13 a government-funded £24 million regeneration scheme.
00:17 Plans for the redevelopment of Claycross Town Centre recently took a step forward after
00:21 North East Derbyshire District Council's Planning Committee gave the go-ahead for the
00:25 scheme which includes a new town square and the pedestrianisation of Market Street.
00:31 The scheme also aims to improve highway connections through the town by reopening access between
00:36 Bridge Street and Market Street, and further work is being undertaken by the Claycross
00:40 Town Deal Board to consider the possibility of direct access to a car park via the main
00:46 A61.
00:48 North East Derbyshire MP Lee Rowley and Derbyshire County Councillor Charlotte Cupid say they
00:53 have been disappointed by the Board's decision to withdraw the A61 car parking access plan
00:58 from the planning application, and they are continuing to call for the plans to be reconsidered
01:02 alongside their long-running campaign for improvements to the busy A61.
01:07 North East Derbyshire District Council leader Nigel Barker had argued that the decision
01:12 to remove the plans for the new car park entrance from the regeneration scheme was made to ensure
01:16 that the overall long-awaited improvements could go ahead without any further delay.
01:24 Volunteers running a Derbyshire charity which has raised thousands of pounds to help local
01:27 people with cancer and their families have decided to call it a day after nearly 10 years.
01:33 Annabelle's Angels, which was set up in 2014, will transfer its assets over to Derby
01:38 and Burton Hospitals Charity at the end of the year, after trustees agreed unanimously
01:42 to wind down their fundraising activities.
01:45 The charity has helped more than 600 families across Derbyshire over the past nine years
01:49 by awarding grants to pay for essential items such as transport, white goods, food and clothing
01:55 following a diagnosis of cancer.
