00:00 Otis's backstory is very inspiring to everybody.
00:03 I'm Heather. This is Otis's story for GeoBeats.
00:07 Otis came from the Manitoba Reserve in Canada.
00:10 He got hit by a car likely that caused his spinal cord injury
00:15 and he was in a ditch for three days and three nights until he got rescued by Safe Adopt Network.
00:21 He got sent to Vancouver to Lower Mainland Humane Society for treatment.
00:27 And that's when foster mom number one came on board and stepped up to
00:31 give him a really really beautiful environment and new home to stay in.
00:36 Then I came along and became foster mom number two.
00:39 And because I foster failed, Otis is now with me and it's gonna be his forever home.
00:44 When you look at him, you would not see a special needs dog.
00:50 He's just himself. He's happy with the present and it's so beautiful to see.

01:00 When it comes to food, he does have food aggression and he will bite.
01:04 I'm not sure if it has to do with the fact that he was left
01:07 on his own for three days and three nights without food.
01:10 So he's not resource guarding with toys but when it comes to food, he will bite you.
01:15 He's so strong and he's so healthy.
01:18 Are you walking?
01:19 [Music]
01:21 You're walking.
01:22 It's such a miracle thanks to Lower Mainline Humane Society
01:26 for saving him and giving him such amazing treatment.
01:29 [Music]
01:33 Every single time we go for checkups,
01:35 You're walking.
01:37 the vets would tell us he's as healthy as a horse.
01:39 [Music]
01:43 He loves to be in a pack. We have four dogs in the house.
01:46 [Music]
01:50 Kadan! Kiki! Everybody's here!
01:54 [Music]
01:58 Even though something might have failed him, it's just like it's okay.
02:01 He'll wake up and the next day would just be a happy day.
02:04 It's very hard as humans, I feel like, to be able to achieve that.
02:08 I think a lot of us would like to achieve that
02:09 but to see him being able to do that is just so empowering.
02:13 [Music]
02:22 I'll tell him, "Thank you for choosing our family.
02:24 Thank you for teaching us humans to be brave
02:27 because mommy's not very brave.
02:30 You'll never have to find another home anymore.
02:33 I'll be your forever mom."
02:34 [Music]
